List of iOS bluetooth keyboard commands needed

2015-07-12 Thread Kimber Gardner
Hi All,

Does anyone have a list, or a link to a list, of iOS Bluetooth
keyboard commands? I'm sure such a list exists -- probably on applevis
-- but I've had no success finding it.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Kimber

Re: List of iOS bluetooth keyboard commands needed

2015-07-12 Thread David Justice

Some commands

VO keys

http://help.apple.com/iphone/5/voiceover/en/iph6c494dc6.html

Extra keyboard commands
That list is pretty good if not exhaustive. Below are a few more.
Control Alt W -- Repeat last item. If pressed a second time, spells last item.
If then pressed a third time, spells last item phonetically.
Control Alt F -- Find item that matches entered text.
Control Alt G --Repeat find.
Shift Control Alt G -- Repeat find in reverse direction.
Control Alt Slash -- Set custom label.

The Alt key is also known as the Option key. Control and Option together are
often referred to as the VO keys.

Note that not all keyboard commands will work with all keyboards.

Thanks David, for the link and the extra commands. I'm really enjoying my

RE: iOS 9

2015-07-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I am currently still signed up for the Apple developer program and installed
via iTunes after downloading the full installer package. My annual Apple
Developer subscription is coming up for renewal at the end of July, but I don't
think I am going to renew it especially since I am also registered for the
public beta program and while I used to enjoy getting my hands on a new iOS
version right after WWDC, I am not that keen about it any more and happily wait
a month or six weeks for the public beta.

As others have already pointed out, the public beta program is free. However,
especially the first public beta can often have many bugs and you really have
to be willing to put up with those. In this case, the third beta for developers
became the first public beta and I can assure you that there are issues with
various aspects of iOS. Apps may crash or not load at all, SIRI and Voiceover
may not function as expected and so on. Being on the cutting edge can be fun,
but it is not for the faint of heart. If you rely on your iOS device a lot and
don't have a secondary device like an iPad or iPod Touch you could use for the
beta I'd think twice. I have been enrolled in the developer program and have
beta tested at least the last 3 or so iOS versions, but in the case of iOS 9 I
downgraded back to 8.4 after Beta 2 came out and I believe I will wait until at
least one more beta version has been released before trying it again.

Although my 4S continues to work well, I want the camera for things like

Best iTunes settings for importing songs from CD (was iTunes Match & "Bit Rate is less than 256kbps")

2015-07-12 Thread Don & Cher
I found the answer to my question in the article below- I have always used the
lossless setting for importing, but did not realize how good it really is. So
my imported CDs really ARE better than songs I purchase from Apple.

Cher

Best iTunes settings for importing songs from CD

Importing songs into iTunes is easy – you just INSERT the CD, SELECT it in
iTunes, and press the ‘Import’ button!

But… the default setting on iTunes is not the best setting to use when
importing songs. It’s far better to use the ‘Apple Lossless’ setting which will
keep your music at CD quality. If you must compress the music (e.g. you want to
fit it on your iPod or a laptop) then use the bitrate of 320kbps rather than
the default 128kbps of iTunes.

This article describes how to import songs into iTunes with the better quality
bitrate.

Introduction

If you go to the ‘iTunes:Preferences’ menu and click on ‘Advanced’ then
‘Importing’ you will see some options like ‘Import Using’ and ‘Setting’.

This raises a few questions.

1. Why does Apple allow me to use different formats like AAC and MP3? Which one
is better?

2. How good is the default setting of 128kbps (high quality) (See picture
below – click to enlarge).

Ituens prefs

Unfortunately I assumed the defaults were the best, so I used the built in
defaults in iTunes to import my entire CD collection. But if you listen
carefully to your iPod through your stereo, and compare it to a CD, you will
hear a significant difference in audio quality at 128kbps.

It’s not that listening at 128kbps sounds really bad, but if you compare it to
the original, you will notice that it’s different. It’s not as clear and some
details are missing.

Best Bit-rate for compressed audio – 320kbps.

If you want better quality music you should use a higher bitrate than 128kbps.
When Apple first launched iTunes the songs on the store were encoded at
128kbps, but from 2010 even Apple now use 256kbps on the iTunes store which is
an immense improvement. The difference between Apple’s upgrade of 128kbps and
256kbps is very noticeable and it is worth upgrading all your existing iTunes
purchases, but 256kbps is not as good as 320kbps though, so if you have a CD I
recommend importing at 320kbps if you choose to import as AAC.

Better still: Apple Lossless

When this article was first written in 2008 I suggested 320kbps AAC as the best
setting. There have been significant increases in hard drive size in that time
and hard drives are now large enough to easily cope with the size of Apple
Lossless files. I now suggest you use Apple Lossless Encoder for all importing
of songs from CD. It gives the best possible quality.

I now recommend the Apple Lossless Encoder as the best way to import your CDs
for general use. (I’ve written about it here.) It compresses an audio file
without any deterioration in audio quality at all.

So why does iTunes allow lower settings? Well, a lower setting will give a
smaller file, so in the days of small iPods and small hard drives it was
necessary to have very small music files. But if you want good quality sound
it’s better to go with a higher setting.

The best of both worlds

If you do have one particular iPod or iPhone that is a bit small and you don’t
want to fill it up with Apple lossless files, there is a setting that you can
set independently for each iPod that will reduce the file size just for that
iPod. You can change the settings for a particular iPod to put lower quality
files on it to save space, but still have the Apple lossless files on your
computer . Just tick the ‘Convert higher bit rate songs’ box. You can find it
under the settings tab that appears when you plug the iPod in – it is the
bottom box in the picture below. This can be turned on or off independently
for each device that you have.

What are the differences in filesize?

A 3 minute song at 128kbps will use approx 3MB. (poor quality)

A 3 minute song at 320 kbps will use approx 7MB. (excellent quality)

A 3 minute song at Apple Lossless will use approx 15MB. (perfect quality)

Error Correction

There is an option that says ‘Use error correction when reading audio CDs’. You
should always have this option ticked. It will improve the quality of the
resulting audio. The way information is written to an Audio CD is different to
a CD-ROM, and so it is possible to read audio from a CD imperfectly. This
setting helps avoid mistakes when reading the audio from a CD.

How to import a song at high quality into iTunes using just iTunes.

1. Open iTunes, on the iTunes menu select Preferences. Then on the general tab
select Import Settings.

2. On the settings window select Apple Lossless Encoder .

Click OK and import a CD as usual.

If you are low on space pick out some of your least favourite CD’s and encode
them at a lower quality!

Re: iOS 9

2015-07-12 Thread Steve Vandecar
Hello all,

I would like someone to explain to me why there is a NDA associated with a
public beta. Anyone in who wants the beta can get it so why not discuss it?

Thanks
Steve

Re: iOS 9

2015-07-12 Thread Daniel Miller
You can discuss it, but only with people that are enrolled in the public beta
program. It’s still confidential information, since it’s not released to the
general public yet. The problem is there are potentially so many people on this
list that don’t want to or are unable to join the program for whatever reason,
so I made a point of possibly not discussing it here because of that fact.
Plus, it’s hard to know if each member is a beta tester or not.

Applepay in the UK

2015-07-12 Thread Alex Stone
Does anyone know when we're supposed to get Applepay here in the UK? I
thought it was supposed to be the beginning of July, but I don't have
the options for it in settings yet.

Cheers
Alex

A Question About Sharing Home Videos

2015-07-12 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

Perhaps it's me, but try as I may, I cannot discover how to share a home
video in iOS 8.4. does anyone know how to do this?

To be more exact, in the native photos app, one can select a photo and
subsequently tap on a Share button which allows one to post the photo to
various apps including Twitter, Facebook, email etc.

This option does not appear to be in the native videos apps.

Am I missing something?

All replies welcomed.

Mark

However, especially the first public beta can often have many bugs and you

there are issues with various aspects of iOS. Apps may crash or not load

Re: iOS 9

2015-07-12 Thread Traci Duncan
Are the beta versions different for public testers & developer testers? I
thought I read on Google that it is iOS 9 Beta 3, but it looks like public
testers are getting Beta 1.

Also, does anyone have a recommendation where I can discuss & exchange
information about the Beta? This is my first time & it’s kind of exciting.
Lol, though oddly boring at the same time, if that makes any sense.

Thanks,
Traci

Please Join Me In Reporting That VoiceOver Is No Longer Announcing Total Number of Songs or Total Play-Time in Playlists, to Apple

2015-07-12 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

If you will recall, in iOS 8.3, VoiceOver used to announce the total number
of songs in, and the total play-time of playlist. This is not the case in
iOS 8.4.

I would ask all of you who want this information to, once again, be
announced, to submit a bug report to Apple. If you do not have access to
Feedback Assistant or the Apple Bug Reporter, then simply email your report
to Apple Accessibility.

Following my Signature, you will find a copy of the bug report I submitted
to apple earlier today. Please feel free to copy it or modify any portion
of it as you see fit, for your submission.

Thank you,

Mark

[BEGIN BUG REPORT]:

Title:
VoiceOver No Longer Announcing Total Number of Songs in A Playlist or Its
Total Play-Time

Description:
In iOS 8.3, When VoiceOver focus was placed on a Playlist, in the native
Music app, the total number of songs and the total time of the playlist, in
hours and minutes, was announced.

Steps To Reproduce:
1.
In iOS 8.4, make sure that VoiceOver is enabled.

2.
>From the Springboard, select Settings.

3.
Select Music.

4.
Make sure that the "Show Apple Music" option is disabled.

5.
>From the Springboard, open the Music app.

6.
Select the Playlist button located on the bottom row of the display.

7.
Single-finger, single-tap on any Playlist in order to place VoiceOver focus
on that Playlist. VoiceOver will announce the name of the playlist, only.

What Did You Expect To Happen After Following the Steps Above?
I expected VoiceOver to announce the name of the playlist, the total number
of songs in the list, and the total play-time of the list.

What Actually Happened After Following The Steps Above?

VoiceOver announces the name of the playlist, only.

[END BUG REPORT]]

How do I upload music to AppleMusic?

2015-07-12 Thread Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.
Hi,

I'm subscribed to AppleMusic.

I have a large number of local artist CDs on my PC in iTunes that I want to
upload to AppleMusic; the local artist CDs are not available on AppleMusic.

How do I upload these albums?

Also, I have a carryover iTunes Match account that I renewed in April, so I'd
like to eventually download from iTunes / AppleMusic any tracks that may have
matched from other CDs in my PC music library that had better quality tracks in
iTunes.

How can I make these things happen?

 Thanks in advance, Keith

Find the songs in your library, VO+shift+M, and choose add to iCloud Music
Library.

Have you tried first double-tapping on the date/time field. Then locate the
date on the screen. Move the finger to the right to find the time. When
locating each field on the screen, the vertical flick should then work properly.

CELL SIGNAL SHOWS SEARCHING CONTINUOUSLY

2015-07-12 Thread Dan Beaver
Hi,

Just this morning I was using my Iphone 5 and all was well.

About 3 hours later I picked it up and unlocked it to find that my cell signal
status was showing searching. We traveled about 100 miles this afternoon to
another town and it still says searching.

I am on an Iphone 5 running IOS 8.4.

Has anyone else seen this issue and what did you do about it?

thanks.

Dan Beaver

apple music, not so great!

2015-07-12 Thread Kliph
Well, I have not subscribed to apple music, cause if there is something I want,
I know how to get it. It sounds great, and I have checked out the radio
stations section, and that is all fine and good, but trying to find things that
were easy before apple music, not so fun. Like browsing by artist, you have to
swipe past the recently added, not cool. And it has a picker for the letter of
artist you are looking for, but doesn't go to that section. Also, trying to
brose by album is not there any more. And my bigggest gripe, I like to go to a
artist, or jonra, and shuffle all the songs, I only see the shuffle option when
I go in to a album, not for all my music or a artist or jonra, to me that is
lame. JMO

Re: CELL SIGNAL SHOWS SEARCHING CONTINUOUSLY

2015-07-12 Thread Shai
Hi,
I have seen this issue.
When this occurs, I would try the following:
1. Enable and disable airplane mode found in the control center or settings.
2. Although this sounds obvious, restart your phone by pressing the
sleep/wake or power button at the top of the phone until VoiceOver
states power off and double tap. Then turn on your phone again by
pressing the sleep/wake or power button for about two seconds and
releasing.
3. Reset your network settings found in settings/general/reset (note,
this will cause you to have to reenter any wifi passwords for networks
you had been connected to).
4. If it still states searching, there may be an outage. Contact your carrier.

Re: How do I upload music to AppleMusic?

2015-07-12 Thread Harry Bell
I have lots of tracks still marked as iCloud Status Waiting: I highlighted them
all and pressed VO+shift+M and nothing seemed to happen on my Mac mini. Have I
missed something? Thanks. Harry
