Re: Open Library.org on an iPhone

2015-08-29 Thread Ann Smith
Well, I definitely have the overdrive account for the two public libraries here
in St. Louis. What they say to be looking for all the time however, is the
Adobe additions I'm sorry Adobe Digital editions that I don't know the first
thing about that. So if there's anybody out there that can walk me through
that, I would be most appreciative. Thank you in advance.
It says on open library, that you can link the open library to your overdrive
account I don't know how to do any of that.

RE: IPhone 6 Case

2015-08-29 Thread Paul and Paula Jordan
I have an otterbox commuter which is thin and seems to provide reasonable
protection for the phone. I had them put my speed dots back on when I changed
cases, so I didn't even ask about a screen protector. My understanding is that
those are available separately if you want.
God bless!

RE: Open Library.org on an iPhone

2015-08-29 Thread Richard Turner
If they are in ePub or DAISY, Voice Dream Reader should read them.

If they are asking for the Audible account stuff I suspect they are copyrighted
books and you have to had an account with the Audible Edition program, which I
personally can't remember much about expect that if you go through a local
library that uses the OverDrive software/app to read books you have to have the
same kind of account.

Sent from my iPhone hello, since we've been talking about voice dream reader, I
was wondering if it would possibly be able to read any of the open library
books? I'm not really good with the computer lingo, such as PDF acrobat and the
like.
When you go to the open Library.org page, they have a section called accessible
books. Some of those books are in Daisy for Maddie I know my phone is probably
not spelling that correctly ha ha. Anyway, I've been able to read the books
that were written in PDF format with no problem thanks the boys dream rare. But
I'd like to be able to read the other books
Some of the books are in Acrobat and that keeps asking me for an acrobat
additions something or another and I don't know what they're talking about
since my knowledge of computers is not that great. Thank you very much in
advance for anybody that can help me solve this mystery.
This would be great to know about, since I love to help tutor the brand-new
people that are babes in the woods when it comes to iPhones, iPods and the like.

Re: messaging, international exchanges

2015-08-29 Thread Richard Turner

An iMessage is a text message between Apple devices and is completely free.
But, if you are sending a text message to someone with a non-apple device, you
have to send via S.google MS or MMS.
If you turn those on, you may find your messages go through, but depending on
your phone plan you may be charged for them.

messaging, international exchanges

2015-08-29 Thread deidre muccio
I am confused about the difference between a text message
and I message. I hear they are the same.

In settings I have I Message on. Send as SMS and MMS are
both off.

I do not know what MMS or SMS refers to.

Sometimes a message I send to another I phone user gets
returned as undeliverable. if I remember correctly, I can try again, and I
am also told to turn one of those on - MMS? I don't remember which now.

Recently I saw 2 $2.50 charges on my Verizon bill for either
a face time call or I message to another i phone user. I'm not sure what
those charges were for but no number was associated with the charge. I
thought it must be for either texting or testing if I could face time a
friend in New Zealand. Indeed I could but couldn't hang up quickly enough
before she answered, then I couldn't get my friend off the phone! I wonder
what those two charges were for.

Re: Links in emails don't activate

2015-08-29 Thread Mary Otten
I'm using a 5S. And since I restarted this morning, links have been working
fine. The same was true yesterday. So who knows? Maybe it's gone now or maybe
not. Maybe I had some tab open that was hanging something up, although I tend
to close them as soon as I use them unless I really really want to save
something. And I haven't run across anything like that in the last two days. So
it's a mystery. If anybody sees the problem, I will be curious.

Re: Links in emails don't activate

2015-08-29 Thread Mary Otten
X I am pretty sure I tried that scroll the screen thing yesterday. But if I see
the problem again, I will make sure to try it. And if there's any change, I
will report. But having seen that issue on the web, I am pretty sure I did it
already in my emails before giving up and restarting.

I forgot to add, that when you are scrolling the screen, don't forget to
explore by touch, to be sure the link is in focus before taking action on it.

Re: Apple TV Issue

2015-08-29 Thread Matthew Bullis
It's buried in the Netflix settings on the web site, so perhaps give them a
call and let them adjust your video settings so that when Netflix streams to
you, the quality is lower. I did this once, but forgot where it is in the
complicated website. I set the quality to lowest, and nothing seems to be
affected, at least with the audio. I'm sure the video is fine too.

How did you unlock your iPhone? Did you go through AT&T or whatever carrier

phone before I go overseas, because I can't afford international roaming. I
prefer to buy and use a local sim card with a local number overseas.

RE: Apple TV Issue

2015-08-29 Thread Blind Treasures
Richard The router is downstairs but I have a good wireless signal upstairs.
2 out of 3 bars. I can play ITunes music without any issues but when trying
to stream video the apple TV will reboot, (well, at least voice over does,
so I am assuming that the apple TV is as well).
I went under settings/ITunes Store and set the video resolution down to
standard but it didn't help. I am guessing that even though my IPhone says
there is a good signal, it isn't good enough for streaming video.

I have not experienced the problem you describe. Try using the rotor gesture
to locate the "links" item in the rotor. Then, if you have "hints" turned on,
you should hear "double tap to activate" when you encounter a link on the web

link, and deleted the email. The next email I got with a link gave me the same

I shut down the phone, restarted it, went back to the email, and then the link
loaded fine. Today, the same thing happened with an email from Amazon and
another email for a newsletter that I get. Once again, shutting down and
restarting the phone enabled me to activate the links. But why? I have been
using this phone for a year and a half now. I have never seen this problem. I
keep my app switcher clean. I do have a few tabs open in Safari, but I try to

Re: Unlocking Iphone 6?

I would like to ask a related question, if I may. Specifically, if I
purchase an iPhone 6 which is either used or refurbished, does the nano

Stated another way, if I purchase an iPhone 6, can I just buy a sim from
my carrier of choice, and the phone will then work? Or, is there some
other locking mechanism involved?

Thanks.

OK, so I am not totally sure but I think actually the switch to Nano SIM was
with the iPhone 5 already and not just the 5S.

RE: Voice dream reader and zip files

2015-08-29 Thread Richard Turner
You are mostly correct I think. I suspect that if it is a DAISY book zip file
it would extract correctly. I think Bookshare books are zipped and they
extract just fine..
But, until you attempt to extract a zip file, it doesn't know what is inside it.

I know it does not extract plain .txt files from a zip file.

You might want to write Winston and get an authoritative answer, but I think
that is basically it.

Re: New iPhones

2015-08-29 Thread 'RobH.' via VIPhone
They get around it same as they did with 16bit registers, they use 2.
Certainly, using 64bit registers should keep them occupied for a while. But it
isn't just addressing, it is data throughput, too. I
heard of a Cisco router that used 1024bit registers, so it could click a whole
data packet through at one click.

The addressing limitation for a 32-bit operating system is 4GB. The math
bears this out, e.g. 2^32 is 4 GiB. The operating system may also need
to address and use some of this space for it's own use, such as device
drivers, graphics memory and so on, which means not all of that 4GB may
be available to the applications running on that platform, but the
limitation itself still goes back to a 32-bit system only being able to
directly address 4 GiB.

I'm not sure if Windows ever used this in it's operating systems, but
Linux supported PAE, which allows a 32-bit Linux kernel to indirectly
address more than 4GB of memory.
