Re: Looking for an extra battery that includes a lightning connector

2015-09-12 Thread Alan Lemly
I suspect finding an external battery with a lightning cable built in is going
to be a long and fruitless search, especially for a high quality product.

Such an external battery would be limited to idevices since the android world
uses micro USB for charging its products and manufacturers are smart enough to
build their batteries with both full sized USB and micro USB ports so that with
the appropriate cables, users of both iOS and android devices can use their
products. That just makes good economic sense.

Re: Changed to Where Did you Purchase your new 6S? Was, Re: Peek & Pop Features of 6S Will Be Voiceover Accessible

2015-09-12 Thread Mary Otten
I was switching carriers from Verizon to T-Mobile. So it was a no-brainer,
given the offer that T-Mobile has going right now. I ordered through T-Mobile.
I still have my 5S of course, until the 6s comes. The disadvantage is I have to
ship my 5S back, rather than just taking it to the store. But I wanted to get
in on this introductory offer, and I did not know how long it would last.
Also, we do not have an Apple store in town. So for me, the Apple deal would
not have been really any more convenient than this T-Mobile deal. Your mileage
may vary of course, especially since you're not a new customer.

Re: A new adventure with the IPhone and VarioUltra

2015-09-12 Thread Annie Skov Nielsen
Hi Richard.

If you turn the automatic translation off, you will have fewer of these
problems. It would probably be great if we could turn that function on and off
with a hotkey.

Be aware of the command space + dots 4+5, that will in some instances help
especially before some symbols.
Best regards Annie.

Changed to Where Did you Purchase your new 6S? Was, Re: Peek & Pop Features of 6S Will Be Voiceover Accessible

2015-09-12 Thread Dan
Hello,
I'm glad you preordered your 6S.
I'm also with T-Mobile and I have a brief question if you don't mind.
Did you order your phone through Apple, or did you order it through T-Mobile.
Currently that's where I am in terms of making a decision.
I already have service with T-Mobile and I want to switch my current sim to the
new phone and reactivate my current 6+ for my wife to use on her existing
T-Mobile number.
Thanks in advance.

Looking for an extra battery that includes a lightning connector

2015-09-12 Thread Mary Otten
There has been a lot of discussion recently on this list about external
batteries for use with various devices. I would like to find one that has a
lightning connector built directly into the battery pack. I used to have one
like that for the old 30 pin connectors. It was a cheap piece of junk of
course, and I paid the appropriate price. I'm looking for something that would
be better quality of course, but, I have never seen anything like that on say,
Amazon. With my for ass and my 5S I have used battery cases. But they are quite
expensive I think, and what I would like to find is a battery pack that I can
attach when necessary, and detach when not needed. And I don't want to monkey
with a cable. If you're out and about and you need to attach a battery, you
don't need a cable. You just need the battery connected to the phone via the
connector. Does such exist?

I sure understand.
So, about an hour or so ago, I ordered directly from T-Mobile.
And like you, I'm now looking forward to the new phone.

Hi Wayne,

The app didn’t let you listen to the steelers-Patriots game on Thursday, but
they did release an update yesterday in time for the sunday games tomorrow.

Latest Slacker Update breaks VO Access

2015-09-12 Thread Lisa Belville

Hi, all.

to anyone using Slacker Radio: do not install the September 3 update.
Voiceover doesn't play nice with it, lots of unlabled buttons and an
inaccessible search field I can't even get to with pass through gestures.
I've already sent an email to supp...@slacker.com, but it would probably
help if other users let them know there are issues.

RE: Looking for an extra battery that includes a lightning connector

2015-09-12 Thread Alan Lemly
Mary,

I have no idea about the quality of this item but I found it on Amazon after
doing a Google search:

EasyAcc° iChoc 5000mAh External Battery Pack Ultra Slim Power Bank with
Built-in Lightning Cable Flashlight Portable Charger for iPhone - Matte
Black. Sale:$23.99.

Here's the Amazon link followed by its description:

http://www.amazon.com/EasyAcc%C2%B0-External-Lightning-Flashlight-Portable/d
p/B00MWRNMEK

Convenient - Built-in Apple 8-pin Lightning connector allows you to
charge your iPhone with Lightning dock whenever you need it. Never worry
about not having any suitable cables around again.
Powerful - 5000 mAh capacity can fully charge an iPhone 6 twice, while
the dual output can charge two smartphones (iPhone + Android phone) at full
speed simultaneously.
Super thin - A thickness of only 0.43 inches makes the iChoc one of the
thinnest powerbanks in the world, letting you talk on your phone while
charging it by holding both up to your ear.
Versatile - Includes a flashlight for convenience in the dark.
Fast - Charges quickly with a max input of 2A, saving up to half the
charging time when compared to powerbanks with 1A input.

Personally, I'd still recommend getting a 4 inch lightning cable like the
following:

AmazonBasics Apple Certified Lightning to USB Cable - 4-Inches (10
Centimeters) - Black
by AmazonBasics. List Price:$12.99. Price: $7.49.

Here's its link:

http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Apple-Certified-Lightning-Cable/dp/B00NH1
38F8/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics=UTF8=1442107072=1-1=lightni
ng+cable+short

Here's a TinyURL link to the cable:

http://tinyurl.com/osw3ou4

You could simply leave the 4 inch cable plugged into whatever external
battery you decided to purchase. And speaking of such, I would recommend
this model by Anker which I've been very pleased with:

Anker Astro E1 5200mAh Ultra Compact Portable Charger External Battery Power
Bank with PowerIQ Technology for iPhone 6 Plus 5S 5C 5 4S, iPad Mini,

So for an investment of $23.48, you'd have a very good Anker 5200 mAh
external battery and a 4 inch lightning cable as well as the micro USB cable
which comes with the Anker battery.

Here's the Amazon link to the Anker battery:

I expect you're right, Allen, but I can always hope. I just cannot see
hauling around a long cable and plug in the battery when I'm out and about
and need to use my phone.

Re: obtaining straight talk sim card

2015-09-12 Thread Scott Dollar

Hi,

Just want to let you know. A friend of mine on another list has mentioned
about the straight talk on the iphone. He said that if you have IOS 8 or
latest that straight talk sim will not be available for that that I believe
so. It must be on the IOS 7 on the iphone that I believe so.

Hope this help you.

I am attempting to understand how I might obtain a straight talk sim card

Thanks very much.

Re: Bad news concerning gamepass and the NFL mobile app.

2015-09-12 Thread Wayne Merritt
Getting back to the original topic of this thread, I called NFL
Customer Support earlier and found out some interesting and perhaps
good information. First of all, the Game Pass subscription lets you
listen to live audio during the game and view video of the game after
it is over. I have read conflicting reports on this issue which is why
I point it out. Second, I told the representative that I was blind and
the video didn't matter to me that much, but I did want the live audio
during the game. Upon further discussion, he assured me that I could
listen to the audio both on a computer or in the NFL Mobile app. When
I asked him how to do it with the app, he said that you select the
Matchups tab, the game you wanted, and then the home or away feed for
the team. He indicated that once you are signed in on the app and have
started the Game Pass free 7 day trial, that the option to listen to
the audio would appear. Since the season has barely started I don't
know how well this works in practice. However, given that there looks
to be virtually no other way to hear any games this season outside of
the Game Pass subscription, I am ready to bite the bullet and pay the
$99.99. Also, you are not charged until after the 7 day free trial,
and if you cancel before the end of the trial then you are not out
anything. Finally, just for a comparison, I called Sirius to ask about
online subscription options. After I explained that I wasn't
interested in getting a receiver and only wanted the online plans, I
was told of an online plan for $14.99 monthly before taxes and such
that I could get. The representative said that since I live in Texas,
the total would be around $17. I hung up and did some quick
calculations; the Sirius plan would cost around $215 per year, verses
the NFL Game Pass for one payment of $99.99 yearly. Not knocking
Sirius but all I really want is the game audio and am seriously
considering taking the leap. I will at least start my free trial and
see how the app works as far as accessibility. If it is doable then I
will definitely report back. For more information, go to:
www.nfl.com/gamepass
or
http://gamepass.nfl.com

I did download several apps for specific teams but who knows how
accessible those will be, and even if they will have the ability to
stream the game.

Re: turning of renewing tunein radio

2015-09-12 Thread Shawn Krasniuk
Hi Eden. To turn off auto renew, launch the app store and select the featured
tab. Scroll down to the end and you'll see your Apple ID. Double tap on it and
you should see a dialog that gives you a few options. They are view Apple ID,
Sign out, I forgot, and cancel. Since we want to turn off auto renew, we want
view Apple ID so double tap on it and enter your password for your Apple ID.
Once logged in, there should be a heading for subscriptions and a manage link
so double tap on it. Once there, find your Tunein Radio Premium and double tap
it. there you'll find the option for auto renewal so uncheck the checkbox and
you should be good to go. HTH.

RE: Automatic location detection when utilizing check in feature Facebook app for iPhone

2015-09-12 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Shai,

Assuming that you are using iPhone with iOS 8.4.1 and the latest version of
FaceBook, do the following to enable location services:

1.
>From the Settings list, select Privacy.

2.
Select Location Services. The location services screen will be displayed.
Make certain that the location services switch is set to On. If you swipe to
the right, one time, you will come to a Share My Location button. Do not
activate this button. Instead:

3.
Either swipe or explore-by-touch, the list of apps that are displayed beneath
the Share My Location button. Find the FaceBook item and select it. The
locations settings for FaceBook screen will be displayed. Select either Never,
While Using the App, or Always.

Note, if you cannot locate the FaceBook app in the list of apps via the swipe
method, use the explore-by-touch method.

That's all there is to it.

Good Luck and Enjoy.

Subject: Automatic location detection when utilizing check in feature Facebook

Hi,
When using the latest version of Facebook with Voiceover on my iPhone and
attempting to check in, the app states that I need to enable location services
in settings on the phone for it to be able to acquire a place automatically. I
have went into settings/privacy/location services but I am unable to find the
app there. I also went to settings/general/reset and reset location settings as
well as reinstall the app; however, I am still receiving the same message.
Would anyone have a solution to this?
Thank you in advance for any responses

Appreciate that, thanks. I tried opening up podcasts in iTunes Store and I

The URL that was posted takes you to the podcast link. You can either
click on it and then click on the episodes you want to listen to, or you
could paste that URL into your podcast app.

I've never used iTunes to subscribe to a podcast, but I think if you click
on the following link on your iDevice then iTunes will come up and let you
subscribe to the podcast:

obtaining straight talk sim card

2015-09-12 Thread Larry McCreary
Hello,
I am attempting to understand how I might obtain a straight talk sim card and
use the service. I have been to wallmart and they have a sim kit for
approximately $50.00. I would like to buy the 99 cents card directly from
straight talk. Would like to use iPhone 5s unlocked. I would like help with
this procedure.
Thanks very much.

bridge and other card games apps

2015-09-12 Thread Dave Bahr
Hi. Can anyone recommend a good app for playing and/or learning to play
bridge that's accessible? I am also looking for a good pinochle app but my
sighted wife tells me that even for the sighted they really aren't that
great, but if anyone has recommendations that would be appreciated.

Thanks, Dave

RE: Unable to update apps since updating iOS

It means to double click the home button and to manually close all apps.

I did most of those things though I don't know what "force quit all apps" means.

I did clear the app switcher and reboot the phone with no change in the
connecting status. I also signed out of the iTunes store and back in also with
no good results.

To answer another question, the apps I was trying to update are Blindfold
Solitaire and Google, both of which I have successfully updated in the past.

Today I am going to try the reset all network settings solution. If that
doesn't work I will try updating by connecting to my laptop though that is my
last resort.

Thanks all for the suggestions. I will let you know what happens.

RE: Problem Solved! -- Unable to update apps since updating iOS

2015-09-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Kimber,

I am almost certain that you would not have had this issue had you done a Reset
Network Settings before the upgrade. I know some people will say they have
never done this and never had problems, but then again some never wear a seat
belt and it's not a problem if nothing happens. As per Rob from the Today in
iOS Podcast who has been an iPhone user since the original iPhone came out and
who has heard feedback from probably tens of thousands of people by now, doing
this before upgrading iOS will often prevent potential issues and one thing is
for sure, it won't hurt and reconnecting to one's WiFi is really not a very big
inconvenience. You may want to keep it in mind when you upgrade to iOS 9 (if
you plan to do so).

Sieghard

It is nothing new, Apple does this every year and preorders are not possible
until just after Midnight. They always say you can preorder at 12:01 AM, but
when I checked it took about another 5 minutes at least for the Canadian app
store to be back up and running.
