Now I am taking the liberty of using reply all. Liberty as in I feel that now
you will receive the same message twice.
I think more than the email client, it is the way the list is set up that

The four finger double tap will not copy anything to the clip board. The
four finger double tap brings up VoiceOver help. To copy something to
the clip board that you just heard VoiceOver read, do a three finger
quadruple tap.

This also has to do with the list server and how the list is set up.

RE: Replying to a list or to an individual

2015-11-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
That is not necessarily how it works for all people as it seems to depend on
maybe the email client you use or maybe it's just that as a non-gmail user this
doesn't work for me. I use Outlook 2016 and an Outlook.com email account. If I
use Control+R for Reply then this goes to the list. In order to send a reply to
an individual I have to grab that person's email address from the header of the
message tey sent, then use Reply, go to the "To" field, delete the Viphone
address and paste in the person's address. Fortunately I use Jaws with Leasey
Advanced and Leasey has a very handy keystoke to copy any email address from an
email header to the clipboard which saves me from having to use the Jaws
cursor, go to the person' email, right click on it and select to copy it.

Sieghard

Pluto app on Apple TV?

2015-11-12 Thread Ryan Mann
Hello. There is an app in the Apple TV store called Pluto. It is supposed to
have a variety of TV channels for streaming. Has anybody used this? To me it
doesn't seem to be accessible with VoiceOver. If this can't be used, does
anybody know of any other apps for streaming a variety of TV channels?
Thanks.

I hate to admit this, but I’ve been so busy I thought I set this list up to go
to a folder, and then I haven’t had time to read it. Is this really the first
message which has come through here on this list, say this week?

If so, is there any other IOS mailing list which is a little more active?

Thanks,

Re: Moderator Note -was- Re: Apple music on the android platform

2015-11-12 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Sorry, when you said you don't see how it's a Google or Android issue,
or how the folks on the Eyes-Free list wouldn't know anything about an
Apple app, I thought you were saying that you wouldn't find an Android
list helpful in this situation. I'm sure you can figure this out
yourself as well, but for others, an Android list could also help you
find out how to use the Google Play Store to send feedback to the
developer of an app. Like I said, just as people on this list can help
with all kinds of apps, so can the people on an Android list. You may
not need that help, but this might be useful information for others.

Well, since the unlabeled buttons are in an Apple program, I assume that is an

Hi Mary,

No worries. I would say this is only off-topic in the sense that I think you
could get way better help on this from the Eyes-Free Google Group which (as you
may already know) is a great resource for Android users. There are a lot of
knowledgeable people there. If you need a link, just let me know.

I personally have no problem with Android discussions here, as long as they
relate to iOS and Apple products. I.E. -comparisons / contrasts of features,
accessibility and such.

the more technical questions like what you’re asking here about getting
assistance with how Apple Music works on Android are just better fits for an
Android list.

Does this make sense?

Thanks for your post and glad to see that Apple Music is now available for
Android!

Cheers!

However, I have found some on labeled buttons in the android version of the

Facebook Pages app and working with a page on iPhone

2015-11-12 Thread Jim Portillo
Hi there,

Let's see if I can explain my question so that it makes sense.

In addition to my personal facebook account, I have a public facebook Page
for my music band. Pages are a little different from the personal accounts.
I downloaded the facebook Pages app and use it on the iPhone with minimal
problems.

On this page, it says that I have 173 "likes." I'd like to know how I can
find out who has "liked" our page so far. There used to be a way a while
back, and although it was a bit challenging to get to, I found a way.
However, I can no longer remember what that was and would like to know if
anyone on this list can help me.

Thanks again for any help!

Jim

Re: Firefox has now come to iOS and is accessible

2015-11-12 Thread Mary Otten
I saw the applevis entry. You can't use your ad blockers with Firefox. That
is a definite downside. Also, of course it uses WebKit rather then the usual
gecko that Firefox uses. So if something doesn't work on safari, it probably
won't work on Firefox, since they are using the same underlying engine. It
might've been good had they been able to use gecko, but that probably would've
brought a whole list of unwanted side effects with it in terms of excess
ability. It would be nice to see the folks at Apple incorporate some of
theaction rotor functionalitythat Firefox has brought.

Re: Iphone 5s and the lightning connector

2015-11-12 Thread Carol Pearson
hi,

For what it's worth, I had problems with mine. I don't know what the problems

tatina,

(head nodding solemnly and slowly)

yes, I know how you feel. it is kind of frustration like I did have last
year and it got worse and the situation I had no choice, and I made
sacriface and went ahead to purchase new one. that is the best thing to keep
gong on.

oh yes, ios could be pain in neck 9rear) sigh1 and that is the best thing to
upgrade ios and proceed. I used to like old one as I felt cool, but oh

RE: iMessages

2015-11-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
If it is truely a hardware failure as in the WiFi modem in the phone has
failed, going to an Apple Store won't really help since all they would do is
offer a replacement at whatever cost they charge in Greece. The 4S came out in
2011 so if it was then it would be not covered under warranty even if Apple
Care was purchased as of 2 years ago.
Tatiana, have you tried to completely reinstall iOS and to set up as a new
phone? If you haven't and if you have a way to use a computer with iTunes I
wold suggest you upgrade to iOS 9.1 if you haven't done so yet or restore the
phone back to iOS 9.1 and factory defaults. I have heard of other 4S users
whose WiFi/Bluetooth has failed, but if you haven't done so yet it is one thing
you could try.

Regards,
Sieghard

RE: Zedge

2015-11-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I tried the Zedge app once maybe a year or so ago and found it very
inaccessible. This may of course have changed, but you can always just go to
the Zedge website, here you can select your device, e.g. Apple, Samsung etc.
and if you select Apple and your iPhone model (not sure why this is required
since it makes no difference, all ringtones you download from the Zedge website
are in M4R format. Once you have downloaded the tones you want, go to your
Downloads fgolder, highlight them all and press Control+X to cut them to the
clipboard. Now open your iTunes Media folder, open the Automatically Add to
iTunes folder and paste the tones into it. ITunes will recognize them as
ringtones because of the M4R extension, move them to your Tones folder and
automatically add them to your Tones library. Now all you have to do is connect
your phone, go to the device section, select Tones from the treeview and tab to
the checkbox which says "Sync Tones". If you have already synced other tones it
will be checked, tab some more and either select to Sync All Tones or to Sync
Selected Tones. If Sync All Tones is selected you can actually skip this step
and you could just connect your phone and sync it. But if you haven't synced
any tones before you do have to first do this and if you check to only sync
selected tones you have to tab a few more times until you get to the listview
of all your tones, arrow down through the list and select the ones you want to
sync by pressing the spacebar. When you are done tab to "Sync" or "Apply" or
select sync from the File menu under Devices, shortcut is Alt+f followed by "v".

All the app does is allow you to select tones from the app and you can then
somehow transfer these tones to your computer either by emailing them to you or
maybe it allows you to save them to a Dropbox folder. In any case, you are not
going to get around all I described starting with copying the tones to the
Automatically Add to iTunes folder and syncing them to your phone. Only way to
get tones to your iPhone is with iTunes unless you buy the tones from the
iTunes Store on your phone in which case they are directly downloaded to your
phone and they are then available. You can also use Garageband to make tones
from songs and these tones also are directly available on your device, but I
have not done this and don't know the steps involved.

Re: setting up my iPhone 6S Plus

2015-11-12 Thread Matthew Dyer

On 11/11/2015 6:59 PM, Vicky Collins wrote:

Hi All,

I thought I would share with you my trials and errors in setting up my AT&T
64GB iPhone 6S Plus purchased directly from Apple. I kind of held off a bit in
posting what I had done, as I thought I saw somewhere on twitter that AppleVis was
looking at doing something similar, but I must have misunderstood what I had read.
Anyway, I'll provide DropBox links when I finish this message And, yes, grin, I do
recall the advice I was given last year about posting DropBox links to public
lists; however, seeing as just three or four folks asked for the demo I attempted
last year, I figured I would live dangerously, at least for a few hours. Thus, once
these links no longer work, one may of course write me privately for the files if
they want.

Now, a few things before I actually give the links. First, as will be evident
as my setup process goes forth, I now realize that I should have done the
original setup of my device completely with iTunes from the start to get the
phone to readily give me the unlock message. But, seeing as I had normally set
up all my phones via iCloud, guess I just didn't pay enough attention, thus
causing me to want to do the second demonstration where I reset my phone back
to factory defaults and then looked at iTunes more closely.

Second, as eluded to before, there are two files, an approximately 99MB file
dealing with my unpacking my iPhone, as well as activating it and upgrading it
from 9.0.1 to 9.1 and then restoring it from a backup on iTunes. The second
approximately 16MB file is where I reset the iPhone back to factory defaults,
and then restore it from an iTunes backup, getting the congratulations message
about the phone being unlocked in the process. Also, as I inadvertently had set
the Braille Sense U2 Mini I was using to record these back to its default
settings, the second part of this demo was originally recorded in WAV format,
and then I went on the web and found a place to convert it to MP3.

Third, I kept trying to figure out why I wasn't getting prompted to setup Siri
when I was restoring my phone. Then, I finally realized that, since I had
turned Hey Siri off at one point, of course iTunes would have remembered that
setting when I did my restore.

Now, such as they are, and I'm by no means and expert, and thus just offering
these as is and just for fun and possibly a little information, here are the
two DropBox links:

OK, Mat, I'm getting around it.

To be honest, I won't use the native alarm either, because I can just
put a time in the very first box of a new reminder and that time will be
given. I have yet to play to see what else (or how much else) you can
put into that particular box, so maybe an indication of what the
reminder is for. I will go on playing when time permits, but at present
I'm just setting everything up for my normal days, then I'll be able to
play some more.

Thanks so much for this recommendation. BTW: If anyone else is keen, it
was the first app I found which had Due (spelt D U E (I am pretty sure).

However, I have not really worked out all the columns very well, not being very

Hi all, does anyone know of such an app as I listed in the subject line? I also
might need help setting up this app. I have one called alarms and timers or
something like that that might do it but I need to know how to set it up and
how to set the alarms. I'd like to be able to set only one alarm that would go
off every hour. Thank you all and God bless. I really appreciate this list,

I searched the list archives about this and came up empty although most
messages were several years old. Are there any accessible GPS apps that
will allow me to set arbitrary points with out worrying about the address
and be notified how far from the point I am along with heading to the
point? Ideally there would be a route feature where I could plot a series
of these points and have the GPS tell me how to get form point to point.

Re: AUDIBLE BOOKS!!!

2015-11-12 Thread englishrider91
I find it easiest to pause the book at the point where you want to set a
bookmark, so VoiceOver doesn't babble at you and the book doesn't run forward
further than you want to go. After pausing, flick right until you hear
VoiceOver say "bookmark button quote. Double-tap that button, and you'll have
set a bookmark. Getting to your bookmarks is a little bit more complicated, but
completely accessible. Feel around the top right-hand corner of your screen
until you find the "More menu "button and double-tap it. Another screen will
open; double-tap the bookmarks option on that screen. Select the bookmark you
want by double-tapping it. The book will start playing from that bookmark; if
you find you've chosen the incorrect bookmark, just double-tap another one, as
you'll still be in the bookmarks screen. Once you found the correct bookmark,
you can hit the "Close "button in the top left-hand corner, and you'll be
returned to the book screen.

If you'd like to be able to jump quickly chapter by chapter, double-tap on the
book image, and the Jump Back/Jump Forward buttons will turn into Previous/Next
chapter buttons.

Thanks,
Ari

Re: Iphone 5s and the lightning connector

2015-11-12 Thread Alan Lemly
The original post talking about the iPhone 5S only charging with the lightning
connector turned one way said the phone was new. Was the phone a brand new
device or was it only new to your household? If the latter and the phone was
previously used by another, it is possible that some lint or other detritus has
gotten into the lightning port on the phone and is affecting its charging. I've
had this happen with both my previous iPhone 5 and my current iPhone 6 and when
the port gets stuff in it, the results when plugging in a lightning cable are
unpredictable. I've gotten unauthorized cable messages, charging only working
when the cable is plugged a certain way, and the cable not staying connected
until taking my phones to the apple store to have the port cleaned out.

I wanted to mention this in case it might be a possibility.

Good luck.

I'm just curious to know if iMessages would be billed by a carrier.

Hi Jan,

What version of iOS is on this phone? If it is an older version, you could
upgrade to iOS 9.1 and see if this makes a difference. If not I’d try both a

always best to first illuminate the easy stuff especially since a lot of people
have iPhones one can usually find somebody who can lend an adapter or cable.

Thanks for answering this. It was indeed the wall charger, and I will see what

cable plugged into a laptop try a different USB port or, as Feliciano
suggested, try the wall adapter.

I have, however, heard from a friend in Germany that his 5S charges with the
cable plugged in either way, but he can only sync if he plugs it in a certain
way. If I had been him and if this was consistant across cables, I would have
returned the phone since to me this is a defect.

Hi,

this is not normal behavior. Are you using the Apple charging cable, if so it
should charge no matter the position. Is this with the wall charger, I would
try a hard reset and see if that gets it working A hard reset will not
erase content or settings, simply refreshes the operating system. Hold the wake
sleep button and home button for about 7 seconds to do a hard reset. Try
another cable if you have a space, or better yet take it to apple if it is
new... position. I have not had this problem using Apple and Amazon Basics

Hi all

My wife has obtained a new iphone 5s, and so we wanted to charge the phone for
the very first time. My understanding was that the connector could be plugged
into the phone, no matter what side was up, meaning that it would go into the
fitting of the phone regardless of which way around you connected it. Well, it
indeed does fit no matter which way you turn the plug, but my problem: does it
only charge going in a certain way, as when my sighted child got to the phone,
he informed me that the phone was not charged. I was astonished about this, so
he turned the connector the other way, and sure enough, the phone is now
charging. Is this indeed the way it has to work, as one would have to mark the
connector then, especially should you not get any voiceover speech for some
reason when charging the phone? I thought I read somewhere that it did not
matter which way the connector was connected to the phone with the lightning
cables provided, so is this understanding of mine wrong then?

Any help greatly appreciated

T I can find out what the buttons are without resorting to asking other blind
people on the android list. And I can also learn how to label the buttons using
talk back on my own. My specific question had to do with whether the excess
ability folks would be the ones to contact regarding this application, since
it's not for the Apple platforms. And I suppose the answer is yes. So there you
go.

GPS app that handles arbitrary waypoints well?

2015-11-12 Thread Jared
I searched the list archives about this and came up empty although most
messages were several years old. Are there any accessible GPS apps that
will allow me to set arbitrary points with out worrying about the address
and be notified how far from the point I am along with heading to the
point? Ideally there would be a route feature where I could plot a series
of these points and have the GPS tell me how to get form point to point.

Re: Moderator Note -was- Re: Apple music on the android platform

2015-11-12 Thread Christopher Chaltain
It's true that the developers of the app would need to label the
buttons, but members of an Android list could let you know what those
buttons are or how to label them with Talk Back, just as we discuss
issues with unlabeled buttons on this list even if they are in apps from
companies other than Apple.

BTW, another good list for blind Android users is VI-Android. It's a lot
more on topic and has a lot less flaming than on the Eyes-Free list, so
consequently, it's got quite a bit less traffic.

Here's information on how to subscribe to the VI-Android list.

To unsubscribe from the list send an email to
vi-android-requ...@freelists.org with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject field
(new users, use 'subscribe' to subscribe).

don't know why it's a Google problem or an android issue. But I wasn't sure.

knowledgeable people there.

Thanks for your post and glad to see that Apple Music is now available for
Android!

Re: How to select and copy under iOS9

2015-11-12 Thread Ryan Mann
Before you can select the easy way in IOS 9, you need to put text selection in
the VoiceOver rotor. Go to settings, General, Accessibility, VoiceOver then
rotor. Find Text Selection and double-tap. After that, you can select by
doing the following:
Find the beginning of what you want to select.
Switch the rotor to text selection.
Then flick down to either character, word, or line selection.
Start flicking right until you have everything selected.
STo copy it, switch the rotor to edit. Flick down to copy then double-tap.
To paste it, the rotor will probably still be on edit, but if not, switch back
to it.
Flick down to Paste and double-tap.
Let me know if anything is not clear.

How to select and copy under iOS9

2015-11-12 Thread Kimber Gardner
Hi All,

Could someone explain for me how to select and copy text under iOS9?
I've tried googling the subject but can't find any VO related
instructions.

I have a link in an email that I want to copy then paste into a text
message. I don't know if what I want to copy makes any difference but
there it is.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Subject: Iphone 5s and the lightning connector
