Re: New Aftershokz

2016-03-06 Thread Michael Feir
Hi Marie. I've really enjoyed my Trekz Titaniums. They're on my head right now.
I have hearing aids and they don't interfere with those at all. The battery
life is said to be 6 hours of playback but I've gotten 8 or 9. I' visiting my
in laws and love being able to hear what's happening around me in addition to
my iPHONE. I got them while they were an Kickstarter project but would
cheerfully have paid full price.

Re: Bookmarks in iBooks

2016-03-06 Thread Mary Otten
Hi Nancy,
If you are in a book that has bookmarks, and you double tap on the contents
button which is near the top of the screen under the status bar, once in the
contents, up there in that same place, you will find choices such as resume,
table of contents, and bookmarks. So you double tap bookmarks and you should
see the list of your bookmarked pages. This is on an iPhone.

Re: pairing instant pot wih iPhone

2016-03-06 Thread Mary Otten
Hi Robbie,
It has been a while since I did this. But if you have the instant pot app and
you have the Bluetooth model of the instant pot, and you turn Bluetooth on on
your iPhone and open up the instant pot app, I believe you will then be
directed to iPhone settings in order to pair the pot. There is no code. It may
even be that the pot pairs automatically. I just can't remember. It was very
simple. And there are instructions on the instant pot website. You shouldn't
have any problem though.

Hi Alan, when you move something from all items into some other folder, it
stays in all items. All items essentially remains a compendium of every single
item in your vdr library. So, if you have 600 books even if you divided them
into various categories, they will all still show up in all items. At least

Speaking of folders and voice dream, I've been unable to figure out a way to
move a book inadvertently placed in a folder back into the all items list.

Can anyone tell me how to do this or is it only a one-way process?

I've written Winston with this question a few days ago but have yet to hear

Re: Subfolders in voice dream reader

2016-03-06 Thread Alan Lemly
Speaking of folders and voice dream, I've been unable to figure out a way to
move a book inadvertently placed in a folder back into the all items list.

Can anyone tell me how to do this or is it only a one-way process?

I've written Winston with this question a few days ago but have yet to hear
from him.

RE: Flash card app with Mexico/Latin American Spanish TTS

2016-03-06 Thread Cristóbal
A quick follow up. What I’ve done in the interim since the feature is
available as a paid subscriber is to add my own pronunciation to each
flashcard. This can be done by double tapping on the edit button and going to
the side of the flash card that you wish to record a voice clip. There’s a
button where you can record yourself reading aloud the flashcard text. You can
also upload an associated image, but this is irrelevant to me and I’d guess
other VI users of this app. I simply used a pair of headphones with a
microphone to avoid any voiceover feedback in the recordings.

Perhaps tedious at first, but you only have to do it once for each flashcard
and after that, at least in my case, I can get a pronunciation more familiar
to my ear. I was able to bang out a full set of 60 flashcards in less than 20
minutes. There are hundreds I’ll need to do, but I’ll do it as I go from word
list to word list and just view it as another means of studying.

Flashcards ++ has really been the most complete and accessible flashcard app
I’ve played with and but for this one particular issue, it would be perfect.
At least there’s somewhat of a workaround.

Hi Cristobal,

I also use Flashcards ++, but I don't use the built-in text-to-speech because I
use it for Latin, for which there isn't a text-to-speech option. I just looked
at the app's settings and see that subscribers can access text-to-speech while
offline. That suggests to me that if you don't subscribe, it uses an online
text-to-speech engine, which is probably the Castilian Spanish one also used by
Google Translate. Since you can use offline text-to-speech if you subscribe,
it's possible that you would have more choice about which text-to-speech is
used.

I hope this is of some help. You could try contacting the developer; there's a
Help link in Settings you can use to try. I got no response the one time I
tried this, but maybe they'd respond to you since you would be talking about
spending money on their app.

Good luck,

Anna

On Mar 4, 2016, at 9:18 PM, Cristóbal wrote:

Hello list,

So I’m currently using FlashCards++ and like it a lot. It has everything I need
and is completely Voiceover accessible. There is just one issue that is making
me search for an alternative and even then, I don’t know if it’s even something
that I can get around with another flashcard app or if it’s just something to
do with iOS.

To quickly summarize, I’m in the process of studying to obtain certification
for Federal court Spanish language interpretation. I am indeed fluent in both
Spanish and English, but as with anything, specialized fields have their own
specialized terminology. Thus my desire to use flashcards as a study tool.

With FlashCards++, the Spanish language TTS that is being used to pronounce the
translated text is the Castilian Spanish (Spanish Spain) and not the preferred
(in my case), the Spanish mexico that I have installed on my iPhone. I’ve got
everything right as far as settings. Spanish Mexico is one of the languages in
my language rotor and I have Spanish Mexico as one of my keyboard layouts.
Nowhere on the device do I have Spanish Spain selected or installed as a
dialect option.

Nevertheless, when I tap over to the translated text that brings up the Spanish
term, Voiceover pronounces it with a Castilian accent. FlashCards++ also has a
speak text button similar to what can be found in Google Translate and similar
apps, but again, when I double tap on it, the TTS is Spanish Spain.

There’s of course nothing wrong with the Castilian accent, but it’s simply not
what I’m used to and being in Southern California, it’s an accent that you’re
really not going to come across too often. This is why I wish to have the
Spanish Mexico/Latin American accent instead.

Is anyone else using an alternative flashcard app that is Voiceover accessible
and more importantly, if they’re using it for language learning purposes, are
they able to use the Spanish Mexico TTS be it as a feature from within the
app itself or does Voiceover pronounce it correctly in accordance to the
language dialect installed on the device?

The reason I think it may be something beyond the app itself is that the
behavior is similar with other apps such as Google Translate, itranslate, and
so on. It seems that the default TTS used by apps with a speak text option is
the Spanish Spain dialect. I haven’t come across a way to change it to
something else.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Cristobal

Re: First time trying bluetooth ear piece with Apple Watch

2016-03-06 Thread Alan Paganelli
I have both my Plantronics Legend and my iWatch paired to my iPhone 5s. I
never thought of parting my iWatch and running my iPhone and iWatch through my
Plantronics Legend. My wife mentioned that one of the doctors at work has both
an iPhone and an iWatch and runs both through the ear peace for privacy so I
figured I'd give it a shot myself. The big advantage is I can hear my iPhone
or my iWatch with out bothering other people around me.

I have bought several of the Blindfold games myself. I’m looking forward to
see what Marty does with the hockey game.

Thank you so much! I always wanted football, baseball and hockey. I thought of
Blindfold games too. I have almost all of them and have bought full versions of
a lot of them. I am really loving to play solitaire, bingo, barnyard and wild
card particularly. I will definitely buy all the ball games and hockey. Ya
think I need to get a life? LOL! Honest, I play them for short spurts! (smiles)

RE: good flight booking apps

2016-03-06 Thread SSEric
Isn't the difference with Kayak that they send you back to the particular
airline to actually purchase tickets? Just guessing... I have always read
you can only check and purchase South West from South West, too.

Well, you seem to be right, but on Southwest Airlines web site it says:

Official Southwest Airlines website, the only place to find Southwest
Airlines fares online.

Southwest also states this on their commercials.

Here are a few web sites where they talk about Southwest and other airlines
choosing not to pay aggregator fees:
*
http://www.airfarewatchdog.com/blog/3800620/which-booking-sites-exclude-whic
h-airlines/
*
https://www.quora.com/Why-does-Southwest-choose-not-to-offer-their-fares-on-
3rd-party-flight-aggregators
* http://www.cnet.com/news/southwest-soars-without-travel-sites/

I'm not sure why they're showing up on kayak.com now, but maybe things have
changed and they're trying something new.
