RE: 9.3 so far

2016-03-21 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
If only Microsoft would fix this one bug in Outlook which prevents you from
reviewing/editing what you type. The Outlook app can handle exchange, exchange
active sync and IMAP accounts and with built-in OneDrive and Dropbox
integration it really has some very nice features. I usually use stock apps
where possible, but whenever Microsoft fixes this bug I’ll switch to Outlook
even though I also like the native mail app (apart from this issue where
Voiceover goes silent when replying).

Sieghard

Hi Kevin, a few questions. I have three email accounts to come into my iPhone.
With the default mail app, I have an inbox for each one, plus one with unread

Gmail app you're talking about do all that? Or is it just for Gmail?
With the current email app, you can delete an entire thread using the action

Re: New lightning accessories at Apple event today

2016-03-21 Thread Robin Frost

Hi,
I haven't seen specs anywhere but there was also mention on the feed which I
was following of a lightning to Ethernet adaptor for the iPad pros.

I just thought I'd mention that as well.

I was following the Apple event by looking at the ars technica tweeting of
it as it went along. At one point, there was brief mention of new lightning
accessories, including an SD card reader. Subsequently, I have seen no
references to this device anywhere. Does anybody know anymore about it?

Re: 9.3 so far

2016-03-21 Thread Richard Turner

I usually use mBraille as a third party keyboard when replying or composing
Emails. I had thought some of the hang was caused by that.
I have only sent a couple emails since upgrading, and I think one kind of hung
up with VoiceOver not responding right away.
I'll pay more attention.
Interestingly, Samantha sounds better on my iPod Touch 6 than it does on my
iPhone 5S.

You can also go into Settings -> Passcode and change how often a
passcode is required. For example, you can change it to only be required
if you haven't entered your passcode in the last five minutes.

Re: Can't install iOS 8 update on my iPad

2016-03-21 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi Mary,

Go to Settings/General/Storage & iCloud Usage. Choose Manage Storage. You
should be able to delete the 9.2 update from there. Then I think you'll be able
to download the iOS 9.3 update.

Best,
Anna

Well, the 9.3 update went much more smoothly than I expected.
VoiceOver seems more responsive.
So far, all is working well with one little exception.
I do not care for the sound of Samantha, either default or enhanced on my 5s.
She sounds more muffled than usual.
Where as, the Siri Male US voice seems better and more responsive than it was
before.
I can confirm that we now can indeed leave reviews in the app store.
So far, I've not found any real problems.
Richard

RE: Audible and bookmarks

2016-03-21 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Clips have replaced bookmarks and functionality has been expanded. If you are
in the main now playing screen it now also says "Clip" at the bottom right
where the "Bookmarks" button used to be. If you tap this "Clip" button, not
only does it mark the current location, but it stores a 30 second clip starting
from the current location.

If you go to the "More" menu and select "Clips" which is the first item, you
can now play this 30 second clip, you have a "Go to Location" button which is
the old booksmarks functionality (it goes to that start time of the clip,
closes the More menu and starts playing you book. You can also share a clip and
edit it. If you edit it you can give it a title and you can change the start
and end point by swiping up or down and that changes it forward or backward by
3 seconds. There is another adjustable control which Voiceover reads as "Ruler"
and if you swipe that one the entire 30 second clip is moved forward or
backward by 3 seconds. This means it stays 30 seconds long whereas if you
advance the end point or go back from the startpoint it gets 3 seconds longer
with each swipe, 33 seconds, 36 seconds, 39 seconds etc.

Voiceover announces all these actions clearly so you can just play around with
it. If you just want to set a bookmark and go to that bookmark, simply tap on
Clip at the bottom right, then go to the More menu, select Clips, select the
Clip (time) you want and tap on "Go to location".

Regards,
Sieghard

Greetings All!
The new Audible update removed the bookmark links/buttons.
Now there is something called clips, but how do you set bookmarks now?
Thanks for any help.

Can't install iOS 8 update on my iPad

2016-03-21 Thread Mary Otten
I have the iOS 9.2.1 update downloaded on my iPad courtesy of Apple. I never
installed it. Just recently, I went to see if the 9.3 update was available. I
am told I have one update available and downloaded, which is the 9.2.1. So I
thought I would install it, in case it was necessary to have that one before
moving to 9.3. But I am getting a message saying that there is an error when
attempting to install and it asks me to retry or offers and OK remind me later
button. I have tried to re-try button more than once, and it never works. So,
does anybody have any idea what might be going on here, why I can't install
this already downloaded update. I really want 9.3. But that one is not showing
as available, only this one that won't install and won't let me get rid of it.

The idea of the iCloud sync is so that your VDR library will be in

so you can have all of it on all your devices.
So, if you sync to iCloud with your 4s and get a new phone and log in
 to
iCloud with the same ID, you should be able to sync your VDR library on
 your new phone.
My opinion on your 4s is that it is not reliable enough to sell without
you taking it to an apple store and have them check out the pin
 connection.
Do you have more than one USB port on your computer? You might try a
different port to see if by some strange reason that USB port is the
 problem.

RE: Buying a replacement Plantronics Voyager Legend or getting an Edge?

2016-03-21 Thread Merv Keck
There is a loop that you can use that will hold it in your ear but then it will
not fit properly into the charging case. I don't know how it just stays in my
ear and honestly it took some getting accustomed to the fear of it not just
falling out while in the store. It is like an ear bud with a little black
cylinder attached to it. How it just hangs there I don't know but I have only
ever lost it out of my ear once. It fell into my shopping cart and I heard it
land in the cart.

So, does the edge just sit in your ear canal like an ear bud. I’m trying to
imagine it. What prevents it from falling out. I can’t use ear buds because
they constantly pop out or hurt my ears.

Thanks for any details. I’d really love to find a great ear peace

RE: Buying a replacement Plantronics Voyager Legend or getting an Edge?

2016-03-21 Thread Merv Keck
Voiceover comes through my Edge just fine. I can also pair my edge with my
windows 10 Lenovo and it works great with that as well. However, on topic, the
edge is a very good option with voiceover. I also like the hands free feature.
I teach and I often get calls that I can't ignore. I like to say "answer" and
or "ignore" and just continue doing what I am doing.

I would also like to ask if the Edge can be used to listen to VoiceOver even
when not on a phone call? I have an old Motorola single ear headset but if you
are not on a phone call VoiceOver continues to come through the iPhone speaker.

I mannaged to get wifi sync wit iTunes working, so I'm hopefull that
I'll have an encrypted iTunes backup soon! I think I may be able to

Re: Voice Slower in 9.3?

2016-03-21 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi,

The Alex voice used to speak much faster than other voices. In this version, it
speaks at the same rate as the others. To make that happen, it was made slower.
Just change the speaking rate to what is comfortable, and everything will be
fine.

Best,
Anna

My iPod classic, and rockbox

2016-03-21 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

I really hope that this is the place for my particular questions. If not,
could someone send me, or direct me to the correct place, please?

So I still have this iPod classic. The guy I got it from, offered to take
it back, if I needed to do that. I thought this was pretty awesome!
However, I would really like this player to work for me, if at all possible.

I removed Rockbox, because when I looked at it in the drive, I saw folders
with weird letters, and numbers. There were only a few songs, or pictures
in each folder. I knew it was not supposed to be this way, because this guy
had about 1000 songs on there. So I decided to delete all the strange
folders, and see what would happen.
There was still music there, but I could only seem to get to a few of them.
This could have been my issue though.

So after removing Rockbox, I connected the player to the computer, and
ITunes, and sure enough, there is a ton of music there. So I do not
understand what is going on.
Does anyone have any ideas, or know where I can ask these questions?

Also, I noticed when music would play on the player, it sounded odd. For
instance, the music was louder than the singer. And the singer sounded a
bit far away, and a bit echoed.
What could cause something like this? When I played the music through
ITunes, it sounded just fine.

Any help with any of this would be awesome! I would love to keep this
player.

Thank you,

Terri

but if you are not on a phone call VoiceOver continues to come through
the iPhone speaker.

RE: Buying a replacement Plantronics Voyager Legend or getting an Edge?

2016-03-21 Thread Merv Keck
I have used both and it is a personal preference. I prefer the Edge very much
over the Legend. However, many people prefer the Legend over the Edge.
Especially now that the Legend has a charger case that can be purchased along
with it.
The edge is a bit less accessible because the charging case has lights that you
swipe across to initiate charging when you are out and about. If you do not
have light perception and you do not swipe the charging case correctly you may
find that instead of boosting the Edge back to six hours you are still at two
hours. One you get on to correctly using the charging case it is a pretty nice
ear piece. I easily get my eighteen hours between plugging the case in to
charge it.I
Also like how much smaller and lighter the Edge is than the Legend. It just
sort of sits in your ear. Of course that is one of the negative features for
many. The Legend is larger and sits on top of the ear and you know it is there.
The edge is so small and light you can literally forget it is in your ear. I
keep thinking one day I am going to jump in the shower wearing it because I
just forgot it was there. Although one time I did wash and dry my Edge in the
laundry and it is still working fine.
I know someone who just bought a new Legend this weekend and I helped the
individual pair it and learn how to use it. I had forgotten how flexible they
were. This individual had broken their last Legend two days after they received
it because they bent it the wrong way. You simply cannot do that with the Edge.
However, if you drop it be prepared to look for it because it is small. But it
really has great sound. And the iPhone app works good as well.
Hope that helps.
Merv

Hi,

Looking for advice inview of my several year old Plantronics Voyager Legend
ending it's lifespan.

Wondering if I should get a replacement Voyager Legend or move on to a
Plantronics Edge. Anyone who has tried both have advice? I have enjoyed the
Legend.

Thanks in advance. Keith

Possibly, but I never ran the public beta of 9.3, so cannot be sure. Yes, I
remember the public beta of 9.2 to be exactly the same as the public release,
hence no update required.

Possibly, but I never ran the public beta of 9.3, so cannot be sure. Yes, I
remember the public beta of 9.2 to be exactly the same as the public release,
hence no update required.

Hi,

You’ve been following the FBI and Apple court case in the news right?

Your only hope is to go to https://iforgot.apple.com

Depending on how you set up your apple id, it may be possible through that site.

Good luck.

Re: Voice Dream Reader delayed in coming to the app store, but that is good news

2016-03-21 Thread Christina C.
I’ve seen apps where there is a way to “leave a tip” or make a donation through
an in app purchase. I wonder if Winston is going to do that? Does apple have
some rule that did not allow Winston to charge for the feature upgrade? I think
schools use VDR and had some issues with purchasing voices through in app
purchases. I think that is why he developed the voice pack app. Maybe that is
why he changed his mind? I’m just surprised that the feature will be free. I’m
sure it was not a simple task of adding the iCloud support. I love VDR and
couldn’t do without it.

Maybe all of you who use Voice Dream Reader a lot and who said they wouldn’t
have minded paying a few Dollars for the upgrade you could suggest to Winston
to put a Paypal button on his website for donations and then everybody who
feels he or she wants to contribute a bit especially after a worthwhile update
can do so.

Re: New Trivia Crack Update, Can't Purchase Ad Free In App Purchase

I found it, but I get the same error.

Hi all. I found out that there’s a new update to Trivia Crack Kingdoms which
includes a way to get rid of the ads. I press the option to buy the no more ads
feature and an error message pops up saying that my device isn’t supported for
this feature. It shouldn’t matter what device I have right? Is anyone else
having this issue?

Re: Voice Dream Reader delayed in coming to the app store, but that is good news

2016-03-21 Thread Mary Otten
I remember hearing Whinsons story a few years ago when voice dream came out. He
had gone on some long vacation getting away from his work I believe. And then
the thing just Took off and became his full-time job. At least, that is how I
remember it. When voice stream picked up in the mainstream, not just blind
people, he was apparently making enough money to do it full-time. But you can't
keep doing that if you're not selling a whole lot of copies over time. Maybe he
won the lottery, but I doubt it.

Re: Voice Dream Reader delayed in coming to the app store, but that is good news

2016-03-21 Thread Devin Prater
No, that’s not exactly what I mean. Like, if a developer makes some feature
free instead of paid, why want to pay for it? Winstone knows what he’s doing,
he wouldn’t make it free unless he doesn’t need that $4. Besides that, we give
him some money when we buy voices, which I’m sure there’ll be new ones coming,
although I’ll gladly be using Alex, thank you.

Re: Voice Dream Reader delayed in coming to the app store, but that is good news

2016-03-21 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I don't know what Winston's situation is like, but if developing is his
only source of income then I would claim he does have to be paid to keep
working on things otherwise he'll find something where he can get paid
and support himself. I'm not sure why so many people think software
developers should work for free. I know I don't go up to my real estate
agent, auto mechanic, doctor, lawyer, maid and so on and ask them to do
what they do for free because they should be committed and motivated.

Very reason why devs do *not* want to commit to release date, feature

I am definitely looking forward to the upgrade, but, had no
problem at all, paying for it. People should be rewarded for
their great work. Thanks for such an awesome app.

Great news, though I would have paid for that feature. However,
please thank him for a fantastic app!

Winston is doing a few last minute fixes before actually
submitting Voice Dream Reader 4 to the app store.
The reason this is good news, is that it looks like the iCloud
sync is going to be free.
So, it is true that good things come to those who wait.

you can now only do what you want with an Exchange account, unfortunately.
