Re: Contacts question -- second request

2016-05-05 Thread Richard Turner

The app Mark Taylor mentioned, Print my contacts, is quite accessible with
VoiceOver, will export your contacts in 3 formats so long as you agree to have
your contacts uploaded to their server so they can be compiled into the three
file types, pdf, csv and vcf; with the promise that nothing else will be done
with your contacts.
I decided to give it a try and it works very well.

Richard

Re: Dictionary for IPhone?

2016-05-05 Thread Richard Turner

If folks want to write to dictionary.com to inform them of the problem of no
longer being able to use the app with VoiceOver, their email address is:
supp...@dictionary.zendesk.com

The Oxford English dictionary link is nice, but you have to listen to the word
"link" throughout the definition. That was the beauty of dictionary.com app,
the definitions read great but you could still double tap on a word to get the
cross reference to that words meaning.

Guitar tuner playing long tones for the IPhone

2016-05-05 Thread John J. Fioravanti, Jr.
Hi: I'm looking for a guitar tuner for the iPhonethat plays
tones. I've tried talking tuner; however, I simply want something that will
allow me to hit the note on the tuner (E for example) and have it sustain so
I can tune the guitar to it.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Re: Any Time Warner app users out there

2016-05-05 Thread Brian Fischler
Thanks so much for confirming. Looks like I am going to make the switch back as
the $30 in savings for Verizon Fios is not worth all the headaches with their
absolute lack of accessibility and obviously they have no plans to improve the
accessibility of their website or app. Ridiculous for a communications company
to have such poor accessibility.

Please, I need your help/suggestions about external battery again.

2016-05-05 Thread Mária Orovčíková

Hello list,
I was going to purchase Anker 2nd Gen Astro Mini 3350mAh Portable
Charger External Battery Power Bank with PowerIQ Technology (Black) +
[Apple MFi Certified] 3ft / 0.9m Lightning Cable.

http://www.amazon.com/Anker-Portable-Technology-Certified-Lightning/dp/B00M8YXV1Q
Unfortunately I haven't found any seller who would ship to Slovakia and
it's not available here at all.

I also tried Amazon websites in Europe, but it's stil the same.
Please does anyone know of a battery of such small size and with the
capacity like the one mentioned above?

I need something small that fits easily into my pocket or purse.
I do not want a case with built-in battery.
I will be grateful for any kind of help/advice/suggestion.
Thank you very much in advance.
With kind regards
Maria

Subject: Facebook Live?

Hi Everyone:
I love watching live streams and have been a huge fan of the Periscope
app since I discovered it last year.
Back on April 6, Facebook held a newsconference and put out a press
release saying they were going to be rolling out all kinds of new
features for Facebook Live.
I was so excited about the new features. Apparently you will get
alerted when people go live. There will be a new live tab where you
can explore current live streams that are going on across the world.
You can go live in groups and events so your live broadcast can be
seen by people in a certain group or event. You can invite friends to
view your live broadcast.
I was so so so excited. I love Periscope so I thought awesome with the
new live features I can watch all kinds of live streams.
This was back on April 6.
I still haven't gotten these new features yet.
I see no live tab. I don't get any alerts when people go live.
Does anyone have this new feature yet? How did you know when you got
it? Where is the new live tab located?
Is Facebook still rolling this out?
Since the April 6 announcement, there have been two updates to the
Facebook app and I have updated both times hoping the new update will
contain the new live features.
Anyone know what is going on? For those of you who have these new
features how did you know when you got them?
Sorry if this message seems strange. I was just so excited about these
new live features and I haven't gotten them. I also keep seeing how
tons of people are live streaming with these new features and I feel
like I am missing out!
Thanks,
Kerri

RCN Cable How Accessible Anyone Using

Just found out that I can also switch to RCN Cable here in NYC. Is anyone using
RCN and how accessible is their app with VoiceOVer and paying your bill? I am
currently with Verizon Fios and it is impossible to pay your bill with them on
the mac or through their app with VoiceOVer. Thanks,

Flaky behavior in the kindle app?

2016-05-05 Thread Kimber Gardner
Hi All,

For a while now I've been noticing some flaky behavior when using the
kindle app on my iPhone. For example, a single finger double tap is
supposed to bring up the menu and a three finger swipe should turn
pages.

For the last update or two, neither of these functionds seems to be
working reliably. The only way I can access the menu from within a
book is to hold one finger on the screen then tap with a second
finger. As for paging, sometimes it works and sometimes it flings me
to the end or beginning of the book. Once or twice I was tossed out of
the book and onto the "before you go screen."

I am sure this is not operator error since when I reinstalled a
previous version of the app (which I had saved in a backup), the
eradic behavior went away.

I am running the latest iOS on an iPhone 6 and would appreciate any
comments or confirmation.

Re: Flaky behavior in the kindle app?

2016-05-05 Thread Michael Feir
I don't have any issues like that. I also run the Kindle app on and
iPHONE6 with the latest iOS. The only thought I'd have here is that
you'd want to make certain that reachability is turned off in
settings, general, accessibility. I haven't noticed any odd behaviour
from the Kindle app and use it pretty much daily. Can't think of
anything special I've done in terms of settings.

RE: iTunes for windows and screen readers

2016-05-05 Thread Cher Bosch
Apple support says that now you have to use drag and drop instead of the
windows commands. (They made it sound like this was doable with WindowEyes!) If
you will check however, I think you will find that you can still use those
windows commands on older playlists (those created with iTunes versions prior
to 12.2). These windows commands will not work with playlists created under the
new versions.

Hello Kathy,

Hmm! I have never used Window Eyes but I understand it is a fine screen reader.

As for the two tasks you mentioned:

1.
I have never attempted to use iTunes for editing track lengths. I use Gold
Wave for all my audio editing chores, in Windows. I believe I am using version
5.x of Gold Wave. I believe there is a much newer version but, as yet, have
not updated to it so cannot attest to its screen reader accessibility.

2.
As for adding songs to Playlists, I have never used the Windows Cut and Paste
technique, choosing instead to use the Context menu method. This is to say,
when I want to add a title to a Playlist, I first select the title and then tap
the Application key on my keyboard to bring up the Shortcut list of items one
of which being the option labeled "add to playlist."

Until recently, window eyes worked well with iTunes. It still works pretty
well, I use it on a daily basis. Everything seems very accessible. There are
only two problems, I believe these are major ones; at least to me they are. Lol
The first major problem is the editing of the time length of a song. This is
essential, in making ringtones. The next problem is that I used to be able to
use the standard Windows commands for copy and paste and cut to work with my
playlists and items in each playlist. However, for the last couple updates of
iTunes, this functionality has been removed. Other than that, everything else
works fine!

Re: Guitar tuner playing long tones for the IPhone

I used an app called Guitar Tuner, but you had to tap it to get a tone, and it
only lasted as long as plucking that string. Might
as well get a tuning pipe and keep it in the case with the guitar. This is
where I've got to now.

2016-05-05 Thread Myrna Votta
Hi,

We did switch from Time Warner to FIOS in the latter part of February, although
I was uncertain about the accessibility of their FIOS Mobile app, which allows
users to watch TV on an iDevice. Actually, before we switched, I did write a
message to this list, asking if anyone was using the app. One person did say
that she was using it successfully. Well, I began to play with the app and I
did it one day over the phone with a sighted friend who was using the app. It
really didn't make much difference if a sighted person or a blind person was
using it. But, the buttons in the menu were labeled for a sighted person and
for a VoiceOver user, they all sounded like "circle arrow." Once I picked the
right "circle arrow" button, (I pressed the second one after hearing "menu
Image,") all the channels are labeled correctly and there is an "option" button
that is labeled after each one. When that button is clicked, there are choices
that are labeled. So, my husband, who is also a Voiceover user, and I
regularly watch TV using our iPhones. Brian, I'd be happy to help you with the
app. If you want to just hear what it would be like, we can do it over the
phone. I don't have your phone number, so, if you do want help, send me an
e-mail off list. I will admit, though, that the Time Warner is easier to use,
but, we really like FIOS much better and we are saving money with it.

Myrna

Thanks so much for confirming. Looks like I am going to make the switch back as
the $30 in savings for Verizon Fios is not worth all the headaches with their
absolute lack of accessibility and obviously they have no plans to improve the
accessibility of their website or app. Ridiculous for a communications company
to have such poor accessibility.

Tutorial or Podcast for Using iTunes12?

2016-05-05 Thread Dani Pagador
Hi, Everyone.
I am using JFW13 and have iTunes12 on my Win7 64-bit computer.

I need a from-the-ground-up newbie's guide to iTunes12. I've
downloaded the podcasts from Freedom Scientific re iTunes10 and 11,
but 12 is so different. I have Thom Spittle's excellent podcast re
navigating iTunes12, but I can't do anything beyind moving using the
Control+number row options, and going to the Search field, then using
F6 and shift+F6 and tab and shift+tab. My results are tons different
than what's on the podcast. How do I get my view to look like his? And
where oh where can I get info to learn this blasted program from the
ground up?

I've been searching the 'Net all morning and have found a lot, but not
what I need. I'm on my last fun-sized bar of chocolate, and am about
to chug through some coffee. If I don't find something soon to help me
start riding 'round this iTunes learning curve, it won't be a nice
thing. *sigh*

Hoping Someone Can Help,
Dani

Hi Everyone:
Thanks for all the responses.
Periscope is a live streaming app. You can find it in the app store.
I have found tons and tons of live streams. I mainly watch individuals
just chatting or individuals attending sporting events or concerts. It
is an app where you can broadcast what you are doing. People can watch
and give you comments and hearts. I love Periscope because I can put
on a broadcast and even though I am in my house I feel like I am with
the person and not alone in my house.
Lots of news sources periscope such as BBC, Steve Harvey, Good morning
America, the Today show, TMZ used to...just search for your favorite
broadcaster or newscaster or news source and I am sure they are on
there.
It's a really awesome app!
As for Facebook Live, I will have to just keep waiting and see when
the new features roll out to me.

Hi there

Recently I have a conversation with one of the orientation and mobility

independent of blind people etc.
He mention something about a some sort of beacon for Blindsquare that will
allow indoor navigation.
Anyone have any idea what he is talking about? I did a quick Google
search, but I don't seems to get any hit on it.

Thanks

How do you copy a facebook post? It used to be a certain number of taps would
bring up a menu with copy on it. Been a while since I have done it so of course
I forgot. (LOL)

I would also like to know how to print an email. I have a printer, and again
quite a while since I did printing from an email. Thanks for any help with

Re: Facebook Live?

2016-05-05 Thread Shane Clark82
Kerrie,
I'm on Android, and installed Periscope on my phone, but can't seem to find
where to search for people, etc. If you want, you can email me off list at
hshanecl...@gmail.com, and maybe go over some areas of the app if you don't
mind.
Thanks, Shane.
