So what kind of things what do you prefer it for over Siri?
You cannot use it for dictation or for controlling your phone right?

2016-06-01 Thread Shawn Krasniuk
It similar to the Amazon Echo. Although due to limitations, you can't control
her entirely by voice. In the Roger app, you have to press the microphone to
talk to her. I'm not from the US so I don't know how she behaves in the Lexi
app. I can only access her with Roger.

Hi Fazil,

First of all, the 5S does not support Apple Pay. Secondly, even if it did, BMO
Mastercard is not yet supported, I assume it won’t be long, but currently it’s
only CIBC Visa and maybe TD here in Canada. The nice thing is that since most
terminals in Canada are already tap/contactless terminals Apple Pay works
pretty much everywhere as long as the merchant’s terminal supports contactless
payments. Your iPhone 6 Plus would allow you to use Apple Pay.

RE: Adding My BMO MasterCard To Apple Pay?

2016-06-01 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

Regards,
Sieghard

RE: voice assistance apps

2016-06-01 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Fred,

I just asked SIRI “How to cook Lobster” and after a moment I got this: Hmm, let
me think… my web search turned something up for how to cook lobster”.
I wouldn’t call this exactly helpful although to be fair I also don’t know how
helpful it is to hear one recipe read out by Google if it’s not the recipe I
want or like.

Chris, you can use Siri to do the same thing. Just ask how to cook lobster and
you will be presented with a number of different recipes.

Hey all,

I know the IPhone has serie, but I was wondering of any other apps that people
use for voice assistance?
I know that you can use google, and it will read things to you, but I’m
wondering if that is just for the droyed.
The other day, we were wanting to cook lopster, and someone who was over with
us asked google how to cook the lopster, and the phone read it to her.
I think she has a droyed.
Any help would be appreciated.

Could you give a bit more information as to what this app is doing and how, for

Apple Educational Software/Apps That ARe VoiceOver Accessible

2016-06-01 Thread Christine Grassman
Hello, all:
My program, which serves at-risk youth between the ages of 17 and 21, many with
learning disabilities and a wide range of literacy levels, is seeking
educational programs and apps. We are particularly interested in writing
tutorial software and/or apps, and programs that offer the ability to share,
collaborate, offer feedback, easily upload files, monitor student work, etc.
For my sake, any of these must be VoiceOver accessible.
If anyone has any ideas, I would appreciate hearing from you: off-list if you

Thanks so much.

Re: Air Printer?

2016-06-01 Thread Richard Turner

it has been a long time since I used them. One concern I have with those apps
are you need to be sure to limit the access to your own network, otherwise, you
open yourself up to making your system accessible on the web. I think one was
called Printer pro and one was called OPrint. I just googled for programs to
make a USB printer an air printer or something like that.

Re: Air Printer?

2016-06-01 Thread Richard Turner

The HL 2360 is a laser printer, black ink only. Personally, I see no need for
color and I've never liked ink-jet printers since the per page printing cost is
much higher.
The Brother HL 2360 like the 2140, has a 250 sheet tray and prints very quickly.

Yes, no need to apologize my bad Gary, some days are just bad ones. Appreciate
it. Thanks to all for the nice comments. I guess some times these lists can
annoy even us funny ones who claim not to take life so seriously. For me with
an AC that claimed to be quiet it is nice to be able to hear VO and not have to
carry a bluetooth speaker separately. The cost and the extra weight the case
adds is well worth it to me, but I can definitely understand how it will not be

Re: Air Printer?

2016-06-01 Thread englishrider91
Richard, is the printer you mentioned an ink or laser printer? Also, is it just
black-and-white, or does it also do color?

Thanks,

the HL 2360 DW which does double sided printing and is also Wireless and works
with Apple devices.

There is a nice Brother iPrint app.

There are apps with Windows programs you can download and make the HL 2140
useable with your iDevice but the computer that the printer is connected to has
to be on for that setup to work.

Re: voice assistance apps

2016-06-01 Thread Shawn Krasniuk
You can get it two ways. If you're in the US, you can buy an app called Lexi
for $5 and get her that way. If you're not in the US, you can download an app
called Roger and find her there. You need to have an Amazon account though to
use her in both instances.

iPhone Features: Hidden iOS tricks that are actually hidden | BGR

2016-06-01 Thread Traci Duncan
Okay, one of the features here that grabbed my attention was the unread
mailbox. I thought that was cool and all, but I’m terrible about deleting
messages, so I had over 5000 unread with 2 accounts. ;) This unread mailbox
doesn’t work for me. However, I noticed there are several more options of
bonus mailboxes, like today. This one is excellent for me and may just help me
keep my inbox more tidy!

Thanks BGR! Hope y’all find some features you didn’t know about.

Enjoy,
Traci

Re: Neato BotVac Connect with app. Looks really good!

2016-06-01 Thread 'Sandratomkins' via VIPhone
Kimber,

Will do! In fact, while I was cogitating upon the last 1 per cent, my
partner went ahead and ordered it for me. So, fingers crossed because, although
there are people here on the list with experience of the Neato range, no-one
has mentioned having the newest incarnation, so, complete accessibility is
still to be ascertained.

It should take a couple of weeks to get to me, then I will need a little
time to play and, after that, will report back if people are interested.

By the way, for those who like to Jail-break their phones,or generally,
take a lateral view of computers, there is a bit of a vibrant community of
robot vacuum hackers. I am wondering how long it will be before my BotVac will
be able to respond to my voice, like Siri, and, applying gentle suction, go
pick up the post! Or find that dropped 20 Euro note and retrieve it for me?
What really always gets me about these Bots is, and this is even more true of
the Neato Bot, their ability to navigate round objects, through rooms, leaving
a particular spot and then, after refeulling, return to that same spot. All
using a very small collection of computing power. Why can't I have something
that will do that? I have the impression that there could be something to learn
from this technology which could be very relevant for us re mobility.

Rambling again, sorry!

I will stop on this until I have some concrete info!
Sandy.

Hey all,

Thought I would share this with the list as now that I am running my AC I could
barely hear VoiceOVer on my 6S, yes was quite surprised. I discovered this case
last week and have had it for a few days and love it. It is called the ZAGG
speaker case got it through Amazon for $80 U.S. but you can buy it from ZAGG
for $59.99. The speaker is amazing and raises VO by at least 5 times if not
more. Podcasts and T.V. shows and streaming video sound great. The case will
also charge your phone through a lighting cord as it has a USB slot. Check it
out and let me know if you have any questions, here is the link on Amazon

Hahahahahahaha, and this is the technology they want to fit in the current rash
of robot cars!

But I hope those have an accessible app, too.

Wonder if they could test some of this technology on those little electric

Getting rid of carpets also helps to call about allergies, as well as chronic
dry eye syndrome, which I have quite badly.
My husband and I currently own a Bob Sweep robot vacuum, and it needs quite a
bit of babying. What I mean is that it often gets
stuck in areas, such as underneath the edges of cupboards, under our couch, or
it bumps up against something, and thinks that
there's something stuck between it's bumper thing on the front and the back
you, which can cause problems. Also, it gets a lot of
hair stuck in the brush, and when that happens, it freaks out. Needless to say,
we are not super impressed. Oh, sure, it cleans
rather well, but I couldn't just go out for a few hours and have it vacuum and
be confident that it wouldn't get stuck somewhere
along the process. And this happens more than once per cleaning. This is also
supposed to be the pet version, which is supposed to
be better at handling dog hair and things than the original.

Thanks,

BTW: one can use the mobile interface at - http://m.facebook.com - which
simplifies the process no end. Still do that on XP, I
still have XP here. But certainly the dedicated app is the best way to use the
service, and for sure there is no obvious way around
those captures. In this day and age, they aren't even necessary. I've met
perfectly good textual puzzles that rattle the 'bot's
marbles loose.

Hi Eleanor,
Facebook is more accessible using an iPhone or iPad than it is in my opinion on
a PC. I use it all the time. If my memory serves me
correctly, there is a capcha that needs solving first so yo may initially need
someone's eyes to help though this may have been
dealt with now.
Happy Facebooking!

Pardon a silly question:- if one installs the Facebook app, and hasn't
got an account, will the app not guide you through
that setup process?

This is a genuine question as I don't know the answer - I did have an account
setup from ages since - but it might be the answer the
original questioner needs.

Hi all

Just a quick question about FaceBook. I'd really like to set up an account and
start using it. However, when I tried to do this a
couple of years ago to be honest I didn't find it very accessible on my IPad
and IPhone when totally reliant on voiceover (which I
am). So I just wondered whether things had improved and whether it was now
accessible using VO? I use Twitter all the time and have
no issues with it, and I'd love to do the same with FaceBook, but don't really
want to take the plunge without asking about others
experiences first.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Re: Best Case Ever ZAGG Speaker Case

2016-06-01 Thread 'RobH.' via VIPhone
I can see this fixed position snap-on type as offering something useful and
different to a loose secondary piece. I'd like this,
all be it bulking up the phone unit in the doing. there's always room for
laterual thinking, and this is certainly one of those.

Bit pricy for me mind, but love good ideas.

Hmm. I'm not trying to be contentious, but if it snaps to your phone, then you
are indeed carrying a bluetooth speaker with you.

It does sound like a convenient case.

Actually no. As this snaps on to your phone therefore you do not have to carry
your bluetooth speaker with you, but thanks anyway
for your input.

Brian,

I know you have a background in comedy, which might be a small reason for my
rather tongue-in-cheek comment.

Regardless, I'm sorry for offending you and I hope you never stop sharing your
very helpful observations to this group.

Sincerely,

Gary, I believe we were talking about bluetooth speakers that you have in your
home or pouch that yes you can carry around with you. So yes, semantics, but I
was trying to suggest something helpful, guess i will avoid doing in the
future. Thanks,
