Hi Richard,
I wonder if he has a glitch in the KNFB app. Maybe he needs to uninstall it and

'The Light Detector app could help.
But, I'm wondering if the issue isn't that the paper and the background you
have it on are too much the same color, so KNFB Reader can't detect the
edges/corners of the page.
Perhaps get a square of black fabric a few centimeters larger than the paper to
put the paper on?

Carol,

When taking a photo of the monitor, the flash needs to be off so you don’t get
the glare of the flash in the surface of the monitor. One way or the other, the
monitor is lit up and you don’t need a flash. Also, if you take a lot of
pictures of your monitor, you save a lot of battery on the phone.

Probably just because the Android version has not been out very long. If you
remember, after it came out for IOS they also had a big discount that has never

Hello folks,

KNFB reader is at 35 percent discount for the iOS and 80 percent discount for
the android.

I wonder why the difference? Is it that the play store subsidizes the sale and
the app store does not? I am just curious!

Krister,

Don't worry too much about the corners. Even if it says that not all corners
are visible, continue to do what you did before. Get it to tell you that all
sides are visible and go with that. You'll get good results
Don't worry too much about inches or centimetres if it means nothing to you.
Hold your camera in both hands with your elbows on the table on both side of
the document and go with that. Better be a little too high than a little too
low anyway.

Sandra! That was, super, impressive!
I do have a KNFB Reader that is fulfilling my expectations of it, but not to
that, exceptional,
extent.
My sister is touring Britain at this very moment, and if she should have the
spare time, I would

Here's another trick, I just tried it out. Below is an example, not perfect,
but good enough for a
general overview.

What I did: all tables and chairs, in the west, conform to a certain ratio
of height, from
tabletop to chair seat. I pulled a dining-room chair out from the table, as if
I wre going to sit on
it. I placed a newspaper, folded into quarters, which is the normal way it is
folded when not being
read, and put it on the chair seat. I put my phone on the table top, as near as
I could judge,
roughly, central to the paper beneath. i slid the camera end of the phone over
the edge of the
table, maybe to half way and took the shot. Here it is! No judgement needed!

2016-07-03 Thread Chris Chaffin
Hello Mark,
Like you, unless their is a gesture that I do not know about, I could not find
a way to go to someones profile from their actual post.
But I did find that the option does come up from a comment.

So if someone makes a comment, you can just do a double tap and hold on their
name, and from the pop up menu, one of the choices is to go to that persons
profile.

Hope this helps,

Chris

Dear Jeremy,

It would be true if the iPhone had an OLED screen. currently, all iPhones have
LCD screens. With LCD screens, all three primary colors of a pixel are
illuminated. With OLED displays, some colors of a pixel can be turned off
completely, reducing battery drain. Even if you had an OLED screen, there are
many actions you could adjust that would reduce battery drain beyond enabling
gray scale to really make a difference.

2016-07-03 Thread Jewel
Victor!
I knew that I had 3 pages and that I could progress from 1 through to 3 by,
simply, swiping up with
1 finger, but, as you said, I can't open them.
I did follow: or think that I did: your instructions. At first, nothing
seemed to happen as I was
presented with game aftergame that I had completed, and then I struck pay-dirt
and found a list
that were new.
However, when I have to close WL in order to do something else, I will be back
to square 1. I do
ask Siri to open Word Ladder, so is it possible to go one step further by
asking him to open it at
the point where it was last closed?

Jewel,

You do realize that there are three or so number of pages within the game
packs, right?

Unfortunately, the developer, whom I've been in contact with, has been
notified that Voiceover does not change the pages, so I'm afraid the only
remedy for this is to turn Voiceover off, then swipe from right to left at
the bottom of the screen.

This will turn the page, and Voila, many more games to go.

I'm sorry, I thought you had noticed the page one of three at the bottom of
the screen.

Let me know how it goes.

Subject: Word Ladder

I have asked this question before, and if there was an answer, I did not see
it.
Finding the daily game is simple and straightforward, but finding others
that I have not, already,
played is very time-consuming and is a real pain in the neck.
It would be lovely if, once a game has been completed, it could be marked as
having been so, and it
was deleted from the list, but, as far as I know, there is no way of doing
this.
I have tried opening different game packs, and double-tapping a number, but
this is very unreliable
and it rarely results in me being shown a game that I have not played: and
I know that there are
oodles of these.
If I go right down the list until I reach game pack 28, no matter what
number I tap on, I am,
invariably, presented with game 1124, and, I can tell you frankly, that I am
getting, heartily,
sick and tired of game 1124! not that I ever play it.
Last night, I tried going beyond game pack 28, and came to new games coming
soon, a promise that, I
fear, is very long in the keeping, but I was presented with games that I had
played, although, I
must say, that they were ones that I had played long ago, but which were,
still, vaguely familiar.
Has anyone discovered if there is a way of clicking on unplayed games?

Hi Don,

I've found that if I scroll up one screen after opening a category in the Music
app, I can always find the table index in the lower right corner of the screen.

iphone music app question

2016-07-03 Thread don bishop
When I open the music app on my iphone and select "my music" there is often a
table index inthe upper righthand corner of the screen. But, also very often I
don't see the table index at all.
Is there something I can do to always make the table index control 'ppear?

Thanks,

Facebook and sms notifications

2016-07-03 Thread Kerri Stovall
Hi list,
If this has been discussed before, please point me to the post. Anyway, I have
not been receiving texts about comments, messages, requests, birthdays, or
events, that I have made sure to check. Everything is checked in the
appropriate settings, and all is well in my settings app on the phone. So I'm
not sure what to do. Also, when I check into somewhere, all I see is, where are
you, but it's searching constantly. I have also made sure that location
services are on. What could be the problem here? Regardthe the text
notifications, I have reported the problem so maybe I'll get something back.
Also, I have the ability to post sms status updates, but when someone comments
back, I have to go into fb to check for the comments. So, any help would be
greatly appreciated. I have removed my number twice as the facebook help center
article suggests, to no avail. Thanks for any suggestions or tips you may have.
Kerri

I'm not sure how this will work with the sale, but you can buy something
on the Play Store and download it to your device later. In fact, it'll
be downloaded and installed for you automatically.

Well, if you go to the Play Store, you'll see the message:

KNFB Reader is supported by Google in an effort to provide tools to increase
independence. For a limited time, KNFB Reader can be purchased for 80% off the
regular price.

I wonder why the difference? Is it that the play store subsidizesthe
sale and the app store does not? I am just curious!

I once had quite good success with the knfb reader but since the update where

silencing VoiceOver announcement of song name on Apple TV when airplaying from iPhone

2016-07-03 Thread Shai
Hello,
When airplaying music from my iPhone to the Apple TV fourth generation
using the Acuradio app, I am noticing that VoiceOver on the Apple TV
is announcing the song name. This comes in loud through my speakers as
the song begins to play. Other than disabling VoiceOver while
airplaying music, is there a means of muting these notifications? I
attempted to cycle through the rotor and I noticed an option that
states mute alerts which I believe I enabled, but VoiceOver still
seems to announce the song names.
Thank you in advance for any responses

Please could you explain why it is that you turn your camera off when you want

Hi, one of the problems i'm having is that i have no perspective of measuring
at all. I don't know how common this is among totally blind people but to me,
centimeters, inches and so on doesn't mean anything.
I once had quite good success with the knfb reader but since the update where
corners was taken into account when determining a correct scan i no longer can
get it to work. I have no sighted people who have time practicing with me so
that's where it stands.

Re: iPod touch sd card style or jail brake mission?

2016-07-03 Thread Gordan Radić

Hi!
I've not been jailbroken for more than two years so I could be wrong
but the short answer is - no.
iOS devices has no visible file system and it is not posible to
browse files and folders as you do on PC, Mac or Android devices and
I think jailbreaking won't help with that.
If you use iTunes you can more less simply copy the files in the
apps supporting file sharing feature plus you can copy paste music
files in the library without syncing, you just need to check the
option named "manage music manually" or something like that. I don't
have iTunes right now to check it out, I just remember it was called
something like that.

Hi, Krister,
why don't you try with some kind of phone stand? You can get Fopydo
for iPhone for about 20 bucks shipping included.
With this, you simply lay the phone in the stand, set it to
apropriate height suggested in the user manual and put whatever you
need to OCR below. This could permanently solve problems you're
having.

iPod touch sd card style or jail brake mission?

2016-07-03 Thread trahern culver
hi all,

I have the latest iPod touch 128gb version.

my question to you all is this can i get an app that will allow me to place
files directly on my iPod as if it had an SD card inside it? or would I have to
jail brake my iPod to do this?

your help with this question would be most welcome, kind regards trey.

Well, if you go to the Play Store, you'll see the message:

KNFB Reader is supported by Google in an effort to provide tools to increase
independence. For a limited time, KNFB Reader can be purchased for 80% off the
regular price.

Re: KNFB Reader: to anyone who nay be hesitating

2016-07-03 Thread 'Sandratomkins' via VIPhone
Here's another trick, I just tried it out. Below is an example, not perfect,
but good enough for a general overview.

What I did: all tables and chairs, in the west, conform to a certain ratio
of height, from tabletop to chair seat. I pulled a dining-room chair out from
the table, as if I wre going to sit on it. I placed a newspaper, folded into
quarters, which is the normal way it is folded when not being read, and put it
on the chair seat. I put my phone on the table top, as near as I could judge,
roughly, central to the paper beneath. i slid the camera end of the phone over
the edge of the table, maybe to half way and took the shot. Here it is! No
judgement needed!

multitude of reasons why people love camping, and while a poll of three people
is certainly not definitive, it does offer some insight as to why the
popularity of camping in Britain continues to rise. Tent sales and campsite
bookings are on the up, many of the better sites are already almost full for
August and every weekend, thousands of Brits head for the hills in search of
some elusive calm. In an age where ever-more advanced leisure pursuits are
available, from city-sized theme parks to luxury spa weekends, it's strangely
comforting to know that so many of us just want to keep it simple and go and
sit in a field, and it is surely a reaction to the pressure of everyday life.

I think it goes off at the bottom because that is where the paper is folded, a
very loose fold, more of a curl. Basically, there are loads of ways to get the

distance.

Hmm, from Krista’s comments I have to wonder if there’s a problem with the
camera on the iPhone! Maybe the lens is smeared or the camera components are
faulty.

I wonder if taking a photograph of an object yields a clear picture? Could you
ask a sighted acquaintance to try taking a phot and ask how that turns out.

Just offering something.

Re: KNFB Reader: to anyone who nay be hesitating

2016-07-03 Thread englishrider91
Krister, I find something that helps a lot is to brace the phone against my
chin when doing both the field of view report and when taking the actual
picture. My two biggest problems are holding the phone steady, (something which
bracing the phone against my chin helps with a lot) and turning the phone in
small enough increments that I don't seriously inpact the alignment. It takes
very tiny movements to turn a few degrees. The smaller the movement, the
better. I hope some of this can help you a little to get better results with
the app.

Thanks,
Ari

would be for you to change the setting yourself when needed, I don't know.

 Annie,

As things stand, at the moment, we do need sighted assistance to set up
the wifi. The person doesn't need to be tech savvy, but the touch screen
 is not at all accessible.

I would estimate, so long as your router is using the 250 and not the 500
channel, (Annie, I probably have put that wrong and even the numbers are
only approximates, but, basically, routers run on two different levels,
most, however, seem to be using the right one for the Vacuum so, worth
checking this out first?) going back to my original sentence, so long as
your router is right, I estimate that you should only need this sighted
assistance for about 10 minutes. It actually only takes about 1 minute, or
less, to set up the wifi on the vac, but you then have to do some stuff on
your phone. All this, we can do, no problem, but, if it goes wrong, as
with me, first time (putting in the password to the wifi wrongly) or as it
did with Marie, you might need to get the sighted assistant to set up the
 wifi again on the Bot.

What we need is someone who can see well enough and has patience enough
(my partner only qualifies on one front, so he's no use to me for this!)
because, I think that each screen of the touch screen is both simple and
prefixed. I think we could make a sort of template with dots, rather like
the speed-dots screen protectors, the might make it possible for someone
with no sight to set up the wifi, but this is only an idea at the moment.

Would it be at all possible for you to find someone for 10 minutes? Or, if
you are fairly dexterous, using Be My Eyes, or, better still, with the
customer support on a facetime call, you might (but I haven't tried it,
will do so later) be able to have your finger directed to the right spot.
I think, all in all, it only takes about 3/4 spots to be touched, but you
cannot touch the screen, or you will mess it up, you must only touch the
 exact places.

Oh! What a long and unuseful response! In short, if you possibly can, get
some help, otherwise, you may well feel extremely disappointed and
 frustrated.

If someone else here, who has one of these lovely Bots, can chime in with
something more positive to say, I do hope they do. I will finish with this
though, once set up, the bot will hold that setting unless someone changes
it. For this reason, I try not to touch the touch screen.

 HTH, Sandy.

Hi Sandra.

Yes I would love one of these vacuum cleaners, I need sighted assistance for
vacuum cleaning, and if that could be saved sometimes, it could mean a little
more freedom to me. My only problem now is if I would get in trouble with all

Annie,
If your router is set to the 2.4, you should be good to go! You could always
double check by going to neato robotics.calm and look on their help/support
pages.

does this mean you're thinking of going for it? Wi-Fi not with standing? my
partner, fully sighted, reckons he could talk a person through tapping In the
right places using face time. but I think the neato people would be better!
However, lettuce know if we can help.
Good luck, Sandy

 Hi all,

After a little panic on my part, i now find I can use the app a little
better! i just managed to change Turbo to Eco. I just did a spot clean,
when it cleans an area, either 2 meters x 2 meters or 4 meters x 4 meters.
Then it returns to base. I did this by just pressing a button, so very
easy. Useful for rugs or single rooms. My issues with my house network
wifi settings are almost resolved, touch wood. I am discovering that the
best way to deal with the vac is to let it do its own thing, I.E., "clean
house" either with the app or just press a button, there are only two
buttons, and then leaving it to finish. From my reading, this is true for
all users, but especially for us, as not all notifications are sent to the

Dear,
Does anyone have a step to step guide on how to format and install a MacBook.
Is it possible for us to do this, I'm blind.

Hi Sandra.

I have cheked it, it uses the 2,4 ghz standard. I am a little in doubt if that
can give me problems. My router supports both the 2,4 and 5 ghz, but I am in

the vacuum cleaner? With sonos I can use my normal network, but will it be the
same with the bootvac, I am not intirely sure?

Do you mean per session or for all the time i have had the app? If the later, i
think i've tried for well over a year and dosens of times per session and still
having the same results and since about everyone else seems to manage extremely
well almost from day one, it leads me to believe as i say that it's me who's
stupid and not the app that is. As i say, i am still looking for a miracle,
something tthat will make my stupid old brain click but as things stand now i

Hello Krister
If I can help. An A4 page, such as an ordinary letter, is 29 cm long and about
21 cm wide. My Iphone 5S is about 13 centimeter long. We must just help you to
get going because it is such a good way of reading stuff. The other thing is
that I set the camera to always on, even in places with much light. The only
time I switch the camera off is when I take a picture of the LCD display of my
pc.

Krister,

I don't know if this will help: if you are shooting a piece of paper in
portrait, with the phone also in portrait, then you lift the phone equal to the
length of the longest side.

So, if the paper is, say, 12 x 8, you will lift it 12 inches. You don't have
to have a sense of inches, you could just stand the paper vertically, for a
moment, to get an idea of the height you will have to lift the phone. Notice
the position of your arms/elbows and try to aim for that.

Sieghard,
That surprises me less with TapTapSee, since it uses the cloud and maybe there
was something odd going on with their servers.
But, KNFB Reader and Money Reader do everything on the device.
Very strange.
Glad your issue cleared itself up.
For the person having this issue with KNFB and Money Reader, that sounds either
hardware or resources. Who knows.
I hope it gets sorted.

RE: Thread hijacking

2016-07-03 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Jewel,

This is Mark, the moderator of this group.

Alan is absolutely correct. Thread hijacking is extremely inconvenient to
those of us using threaded conversation views in our email clients.

I believe it depends on the mailing list domain server-side settings but, in
the case of Google groups, removing the contents of the original message and
changing the subject line will not remove the original message header
information.

Consequently, as Alan suggested, be certain to create a new message to the
list, from scratch.

Quote, "If you can't remember the posting address of the list, please copy it
from a message to which you are replying, cancel that message, start a brand
new message, and paste the address you copied into the To field. Now you can
type in your new subject since you'll be starting a new thread." End Quote.

Thank you,

Mark

I apologise. I thought that I had removed all traces of the KNFB post.
As I often do this, to save myself the bother of typing the address for a new
message, I do the reply to on an existing message to the list, and then remove
all traces of it.
Apparently, on this occasion, I must have neglected to do this.
NOOne, in the past, has advised me that they have a problem with it.

Subject: Thread hijacking was Re: Word Ladder was KNFB Reader

Jewel,

I realize I'm not the moderator and I beg Mark's and Cara's forgiveness, but
when you reply to another post and change the subject, you hijack the thread as
you just did with this thread on the Knfb reader. Those of us who read email by
threads as I do on my iPhone get messed up if we're following the thread you
hijacked either because we're interested or we posted to it as I did. Even if
you completely erase the thread history and totally replace the subject, the
message is tagged in such a way that the posting history is still tied to the
thread yet those following along by subject using a threaded email client will
be out of luck since you've hijacked the subject.

If you can't remember the posting address of the list, please copy it from a
message to which you are replying, cancel that message, start a brand new
message, and paste the address you copied into the To field. Now you can type
in your new subject since you'll be starting a new thread.

Thanks so much for not hijacking threads in the future.

Alan Lemly
