Hi not to sure on how to do this.
But try changing your punctuation setting on your phone to some if it

Re: Fantasy Football Apps

2016-09-03 Thread Andy Baracco
I am in leagues on both ESPN and Yahoo. The Yahoo app appears to be accessible,
including conducting a live draft. On ESPN drafting individual players is not
accessible, but they have an autopick strategy where you can preselect the
position that you want to draft for in each round, but the computer actually
chooses the player. I use this mode because I do not have sighted assistance to
help select players. This year I actually got a good draft that way, but that
isn’t always the case. Other than the draft, you can manage your team under
both platforms, i. e. setting your weekly roster, making trades, using the
waiver wire, etc. There are several blind FF players that have given input to
Yahoo, and they seem to listen. I think you will have a good experience with
Yahoo FF.

for the last several years, I have created an audio MP3 of the Apple
September Special Event and posted a link on the ViPhone list to
download it. I plan to do the same this year. It is converted from
the video download that Apple makes available. Apple posts the video
typically in the early evening. I usually have the video downloaded,
converted and the audio file uploaded by 10:00 p.m. Chicago time.

Fantasy Football Apps

2016-09-03 Thread Keith Bundy
Hi, all. Is the Yahoo Fantasy Football app still the most accessible one
out there? I'm wanting to create a family league and just wanting to know.
In addition , I was invited to play in a league on ESPn but, given past
experience, I was hesitant to do so.

Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks.

Re: Podcast receivers

2016-09-03 Thread Jonathan Mosen
Its not, sadly. You're right, there are a lot of unlabelled buttons on the
Android version of Pocketcasts. I think if you were to subscribe to your
podcasts on the iOS version, listening to the stuff on Android might be doable.

OK, will do. That isn't cross-platform by any chance is it? By cross-platform I

Thanks, Jonathan. I did see the reference to the podcast in the original post,
but wasn't familiar with it. I must've been under a rock. I thought perhaps it

Yes. One Bus away is not being developed now so it is gradually becoming more
and more inaccurate. Use with caution.
Too bad because it has a lot of information. So it’s often a good resource but
you have to take it with a grain of salt because things are changing all the
time.

Podcast receivers

2016-09-03 Thread Mary Otten
Hi all,
I have blown hot and cold about Podcasts over the years. Most recently, I have
pretty much limited myself to occasional looking at certain blindness related
podcasts through iBlink Radio. I was surprised to go looking for the podcast
that Jonathan mentioned on another list, only to find that it was not available
through iblink radio. Anyway, I'm thinking about trashing Iblink radio and
getting a different podcast app. I know downcast is quite popular, and pocket
cast is cross platform. And of course there is the native app that comes in
iOS. I really don't need anything fancy. What I would like is something that
lets me subscribe to podcasts, but not have to download them. I would like to
be able to go into the app, easily search for Podcasts, without having to have
the URL, subscribe to those I want, then see a list of subscribed podcasts and
see the episodes in the podcast with the choice to listen from the cloud or
download each. Is such an app available?
Mary

Not Marcy, but I use both the stock Podcasts app and the £2.29 app Downcast. It

Hi

You can also catch up on the event using the Apple Events app for Apple TV, 4th
Generation. For Apple TV, 3rd Generation users, you can catch up, but only for
a limited time until the app disappears from the main menu.

Hi there. If you use the Podcasts app provided free by Apple, you can find and
subscribe to apple Keynote HD and will then receive any keynote speeches when
Apple is ready to release the podcast. It may not be available the same day but
it's where I turn if I miss a live Apple event.

Hi,
I trust that it is the same and will try it out. From reading the app
description in the store, it did not specify anything about keeping
track of apps which drop in price.
Thank you for clarifying that you use this app.

Re: NEED TO GET OUT OF THIS ONE!

2016-09-03 Thread 'Carol Pearson' via VIPhone

Hi there Kimber, Dave and Rajmund,

Thanks all for your help. I hoped the hard reset would clear it but,
despite doing it twice, there was "No go". I then realised that I'd been
using mBraille at some point for a message or two and, although any text
should have deleted when next I went into mBraille, it hadn't done so
and I had to do this a couple of times. However, at last I got rid of
it!

Thanks for trying to help!

OK, next time I was editing some text in which Siri had goofed something
up, I touched the Del button of the onboard keyboard and it read a
couple of sentences to me. I recognised it as text I had input (and
hoped) that should have gone!

I've taken all apps out of my app switcher and rebooted a few times.
Each time it is there again!

I can't remember how long I hold in the home and unlock buttons to
perform a more severe reset and I can't remember either what that is

If anyone can help, that would be useful or, please, has anyone ideas of
what else I might do?

Thanks!

Seattle area GPS apps

2016-09-03 Thread Traci Duncan
Hi, anyone in the Seattle area that have travel app recommendations? Are you
familiar with OneBusAway? If so, can you share your experience?

How about BlindSqueare? Have you found it to be accurate in and around the
Seattle area?

One of the apps I’ve been using for bus route planning is Puget Sound Trip
Planner. It doesn’t find locations quite as well as Google Maps, but it’s
pretty useful.

Thanks for any accessible travel tips around the King County region.

Hello Carol,

It's really quite simple, simply engage the touch cursor and use the arrow keys
on your keyboard to explore the screen. I believe there is only 3 or 4 Touch
Cursor commands available but, to be sure, they are effective.

Once the Touch Cursor is engaged, using the arrow keys simply moves focus in a
linear fashion so that everything, and I do mean everything on the screen is
eventually read/placed in focus.

Now I'm not saying the Touch Cursor is the most efficient method of navigating
the display; what I'm saying is that it will get the proverbial job done.

So, simply launch iTunes for Windows, then enable the Touch Cursor. Finally,
explore the screen with the arrow keys. You can use the enter key to activate
a button/control.

Mark,

Could you elaborate on that, please? Some of us have dumped ITunes for quite a
while now and, if things are good enough to use it again, I for one could do
with some refresher (or input) as to what you can do where.

Any information you can give would be most helpful, thanks!

I think it's time we had a readily available iTunes manual for Windows and the
main screen readers, that can be tweaked each time a new version comes out and
significantly changes how we accomplish a task. It changes just too often for
me to keep up, that's for sure!

I doubt however that anyone would want to undertake that task ... and I
certainly don't blame them!

Anyway, any further help you can give as exactly at which times you're finding
it useful then please share, if you can.

RE: Does using JAWS touch cursor with iTunes make it any better?

2016-09-03 Thread Ron Pelletier
Mark,

Could you share with us your technique using the touch cursor? I tried it and
can't figure out how to make it any better to select the album I want to play.
It seems like hitting enter when I find a specific album will start it playing
as I expected.

Please help

Keith,

The message that you copied is one that I posted to the Jaws for Windows
mailing list, earlier today.

As I wrote in my original post, I find the Touch Cursor very useful with regard
to iTunes for Windows.

I find that with the latest version of Jaws, when it comes to the latest

Please remember that one does not need an actual touch screen in order to use

Iphone 6 low tone problem when talking on phone

2016-09-03 Thread Don Risavy, Jr.
Wondered if anyone has experience the following issue on their IPhone 6
where when either making or receiving calls get a very low tone beeping
sound that is a solid tone not like a caller id tone like would get when
have feedback; but, not a high pitch like occurs when feedback occurs.

This just started the past couple of weeks and my carrier or provider have
had me run the updates and still happens.

I noticed that depending on how have the phone position when talking on it
sometimes won't happen and also doesn't happen all the time and doesn't
matter if on Wi-Fi calling or regular cell calling.

This doesn't happen every time either and am not using blue tooth or any
other headsets when using my phone.

I've check the phone itself and don't' notice any damage to it.

The phone is also around two years old and still charges fine and seems to
hold the charge well still too.

So just thought would throw this out here to see if anyone else has had the
problem or know of anyone that has an what did to solve it.

I've also completely reset the phone to the state was in when received it
from a fresh set up and seems to have helped a little bit; but, still have
the low tone on it.

Thanks.

Re: The "to the point" podcast

2016-09-03 Thread Chris Chaffin
Hello Billy,

I am not Marcy, but here are my thoughts.
There are many podcast apps out there, but a very good free and accessible
podcast app is called Overcast. The app store link for it is:
Overcast: Podcast Player by Overcast Radio, LLC
https://appsto.re/us/jhe90.i

As far as good podcast to subscribe to, well, there are tons out there, it just
really depends on what you are interested in. Here are a few that I recommend.
The link is the subscription link to the podcast.

AppleVis:

ACB Main Menu:

The Tech Doctor Blog and Podcast:

The Mystic Access Podcast:

Cool Blind Tech Podcast:

This should give you a good place to start!
Hope this helps!

2016-09-03 Thread Tom's Gmail
Make sure when you enter the state in the search code you just use the two
letter code, like CA for California, NJ for New Jersey, etc. Do not add the
complete state name. It does spell it out in the help fields. I was confused
myself and then read the entire help text and it gave specific instructions
there.

hi Marcy, could you please suggest a good helpful podcast catcher app,
and maybe some visually impaired helpful podcasts, Billy

I am looking for a podcast called "to the point" or "how to be blind" or some

Thanks in advance.

Re: Drop box question.

2016-09-03 Thread billy inglis

hi Ari, I have just gotten the app Voice Dream Reader pro on my iphone6.
I'm wanting to use the app with dropbox, and audio books.
Can you please give steps in how to move the books from dropbox to VDR.
Any hints tips would be just great, Billy

On 02/09/2016 20:28, englishride...@gmail.com wrote:

Note that you don't actually have to do this. You can just download one file of
the book at a time using Voice Dream Reader. It does make it pretty convenient,
though, to have the files zipped up into one file to download. Are usually just
download one file at a time when they're quite large, say 30 minutes or more,
and don't bother with zipping up the files in this case.

Voice Dream Reader is an excelent app, and I highly recommend it!

Thanks,
Ari

You can definitely read them with voice dream reader but you should zip up the
multiple mp3 files which comprise the book into one file which you put in your
Dropbox folder. Make sure the files are named so that they sort in the correct
reading order.

Good luck.

Good morning all,
If I put some MP3 audio books in a Dropbox folder would it be possible to read
them? If I had to stop the book, could I pick up where I left off using my
