Adding feed to Overcast

2016-10-19 Thread Juliette Swiler
I have a podcast feed that can not seem to be added to the overcast app. It is
for the Rush Limbaugh show and requires a user name and password. But I don't
see where to enter login info. Thanks.

Hello all,
I have just started using Apple pay. I have two cards, one of which is the

Issues with Facebook

2016-10-19 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

I have a weird problem with Facebook. I just updated it about a day, or
2 ago. I also have the latest IOS update.

This morning I went to Facebook. I prefer to use it on my phone, than on
the computer.

A friend of mine posted an update about her baby. I wanted to read the
comments. So I tapped on the link. When I did, this horrible sound came
out of my phone. It caused me to almost drop it.

Anyway, the sound didn't last. But then when I wanted to view the
previous comments, I heard it again. That noise scares me! LOL!

I haven't checked out any other postings to see if the same thing
happens. I know that I should. But I honestly do not want to hear that
awful sound again.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Or does anybody have any idea as to what could be causing this?

The noise sounds familiar. I think I heard this sort of sound a little
over a year ago. I think it was some sort of bug, if I remember
correctily. But it would start, and wouldn't go away. If I remember
right, I always had to restart my phone. Which was difficult, because
you couldn't hear voiceover.

Thoughts on this matter would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

take care with whatsapp update

2016-10-19 Thread Davy Cuppens
Hi

Whatsapp has changed its policy towards audio messaging. When holding the phone
straight short to your ears, you heare the message but it seems quite a cold
sharp quality. Removing the phone from your head results in changing the voice
routing throug the moutiece and it is very weak even not readable anymore.

Maybe some folks find this a good change but I suppose most will not.

Re: Netflix Audio Described programs

2016-10-19 Thread Richard Turner

Yes, the issue is not all episodes are described on all shows.
And, even after the show added audio description on the broadcast, doesn't mean
the streaming episodes have it.
Bones, for example, the first episode of season 9 streams with description, but
season 10 and even later in season 9 it doesn't seem to stream.
Quite frustrating.

Issue With Refreshable Braille

2016-10-19 Thread Keith Bundy
Hello, all. I've been away from the list for a while, so I apologize if
this question has appeared before.

I am running an iPhone 6 using IOS 10 - latest upgrade. I am using a
Brailliant BI 40 display with the phone.

I have noticed that the display often locks up and kicks me out of what I
am doing. I’not not sure if the dispay, which I just got in August, has a
bad bluetooth receiver or if this is a glitch with IOS 10. I have noticed
this issue particularly in Google Docs.

Also, someone thought that the problem could stem from my running a
bluetooth hearing aid through the phone as well. Any thoughts on that would
be appreciated, too.

RE: Netflix Audio Described programs

2016-10-19 Thread Alan Lemly
Richard,

Thanks so much for posting this. This is a very handy list to access on one's
computer what's audio described in Netflix for those of us considering a
subscription.

Greetings,

The American Council of the Blind has a page for audio described programs.
They have a page devoted to Netflix that says it is updated weekly. At this
point they seem to have over 200 audio described items. I thought folks would
want to know this.

RE: A Blindsquare question about constant distance travelled announcements

Thanks, Richard, I will try this. If this is what causes it they should
desensitise the shake gesture, I walk very smoothly and have a pretty light
step so if shake is triggered by this it’s waytoo sensitive.

Check your shake settings. In the Other, settings, I think you want shake to

Subject: A Blindsquare question about constant distance travelled announcements

Hi,

I had uninstalled Blindsquare some time ago and as I am in Calgary right now
and use GPS more frequently I thought I put it back and see how it is. Today I
was at an Ikea in the far Southeast of the city which is a fairly industrial
zone and I started it up just to let it tell me my streets and cross streets.
When I used the headset remote to stop it at “Location” it didn’t actually give
me my location/address and then it told me that I had travelled 95 metres in 1
minute and consequently kept telling me every couple of seconds that I now had
travelled 100 metres in 1 minute, then 105 metres, then 110 metres etc. I seem
to remember that I had this issue before and it was one of the reasons why I
uninstalled it. It seems when it starts telling me the distance walked it just
won’t stop and it’s extremely annoying. Do any of you Blindsquare experts have
any suggestions how I can stop it doing this? Unfortunately it also seems
Calgary Transit is not one of the places where transit information is available
since I have been at many a bus stop and Blindsquare never seems to know this.
I may be blind and a german square head, but Blindsquare and I just don’t seem
to get along *smile*.

Incidently I asked SIRI “What is my current location” after which SIRI usually
replies with an approximate address. This time SIRI told me that I was in
Calgary, Alberta, which of course was not news to me yet it was of course of
little help. I then started the Seeing Eye app and it immediately told me the
address where I was and announced the street and upcoming cross street.

Regards,
Sieghard

Re: sending lithium batteries

2016-10-19 Thread Deidre Muccio
I have an 888 number for Amazon customer service which does work. As it turns
out in order to access her order and this person is New Zealand so I don't know
if those numbers you provided will work… I need the billing address not of her
New Zealand bottom of this other place in Portland Oregon which either was the
seller or the person Amazon sent it to. It's a little overly complicated.
Anyway it does sound like they might be willing to take it back even though
this was purchased months ago at this point. Now all I need for them to
determine whether they will take it back is the address in Portland Oregon. It
is on a piece of paper right here under my handbag cayenne FB reader didn't
seem to scan it well enough for me to get the complete address so off to the
neighbors I go. What is a order number good for if not to access the person's
account and the item in question?

 Hey all,
A friend in NZ ordered the item I will paste below. She bought this to
charge her phone while away from home and wanting to access data on her
phone on the spot. Plus this power bank appears to have a talking chip in
 it.
Problem is it is not feasible to ship it by air and via UPS the
charge would be triple what she paid for the thing. What am I supposed to
 do
with this thing. She was told by someone she thought knew how this would
work, to have Amazon ship it to yet another place that begins with a Y and
something I've never heard of before. They too could not ship it so she is
still out one power bank and $44. No one has looked at the box to check
shipping method or price so I don't know yet who paid for that and how it
 made it here.
In the new 2016 definitions for transport of lithiam batteries it
says that batteries inside equipment have different regulations. What does
that even mean? The regulations themselves are dizzying.
It seems if the buyer is to recoup her $44 I will need to find
someone locally to come pick it up! Any ideas?

Netflix Audio Described programs

2016-10-19 Thread Richard Turner
Greetings,
The American Council of the Blind has a page for audio described programs.
They have a page devoted to Netflix that says it is updated weekly. At this
point they seem to have over 200 audio described items. I thought folks would
want to know this.

Problem is it is not feasible to ship it by air and via UPS the

RE: A Blindsquare question about constant distance travelled announcements

Hi. Not much help, but I think you can turn off that feature.

Regards,

Sieghard

Re: Sending MP3's to Someone for Play on an iPad or iPhone

2016-10-19 Thread Rich De Steno
I did some checking on the internet and it appears that one can download
from the App Store a free version of Winzip and unzip the zip file with
it. It sounds like this is a simple solution for the recipient of my
zip file to access the files within. We will try it.

Hi Rich,

If the recipient has Voice dream Reader, they should be able to choose to open
the file using that app. It can handle zip files just fine.

If they don't have VDR, I would suggest sharing a Dropbox folder with the
recipient. If the recipient favorites the files, the files will be downloaded
to the recipient's iPad. I'm pretty sure it's also possible to move files from
one Dropbox folder to another using the Dropbox app, so the recipient could do
that.

I want to send about fifteen MP3 files, each about 5 megs in size. My initial
plan was to zip them up into a zip file and send a public link to the recipient

zip file. My idea now is to send each MP3 as an email attachment. I gather
this will enable the recipient to play them, but not to save them to the iPad
as music files. Apparently, that can only be done through iTunes on a
computer. That is where it stands now.

Good morning everyone.
Before IOS 10 and the latest version of face book messenger it was possible to
just up arrow on someone's name and it would ask if you wanted to delete the
messages. Now, that option isn't there and i'm not seeing a delete or edit
button. Does anyone know if it is possible to delete messages now? Thank you.

me definitely upgrade to the 7 or 7 Plus. That is just my opinion. Of course if
your 6 is working well you may also simply want to wait for the iPhone 8 or
whatever next year's 10th anniversary phone will be called. I somehow doubt
they simply call it the iPhone 7S or 7S Plus, but who knows. I really do
believe there will be something big in store for next year and there are
already rumours which point to that.

By the way, Chris, I don't know which 6S you have, i.e. is it a 16 Gb, 64 Gb or
128 Gb model? Anyhow, if you can get it unlocked by your carrier and sell it
privately you will get way more than $200. I just called Telus here in Canada
to get them to unlock my wife's iPhone 6 which is a Silver 64 Gb model because
she has a 6S now and we want to sell it and when I was just at an Apple Store I
asked what we might ask and the Apple Genious said I should probably ask $600
(that is of course Canadian) and then if somebody offered a bit less we would
have enough room to move and still get a good price for it. The phone still has
Apple Care until January and I guess we'll see what happens. When I asked to
have it unlocked the Telus guy at first said there would be a $35 fee. I just
said "Oh, come on, you can surely wave that considering this phone is part of
my Business Anywhere plan which includes my 2 business landlines, business ADSL
and 3 iPhones". He just said "OK, I think we can do that" and went ahead and
did it without fee. I assumed I had to restore the phone via iTunes for the
unlock to take effect which is always what I heard had to be done, but he said
that this was not necessary and there was absolutely nothing I had to do and
that after he was done doing what he did the phone was unlocked.

Regards,
Sieghard

given all that you point out, Sieghard, when I upgrade my iPhone 6, I'll simply
go to a 6s plus. There's nothing about the 7 that is compelling.
