Re: deleting emails using a Verizon account

You will have to do it pre-iOS 9, select them all one by one and double tap
trash button. No, I don’t like the removal of the trash all button either, and
we have told Apple to bring it back, but it hasn’t been done yet. There is
light at the end of the tunnel though and that is to turn on organize by
thread. That way if you delete a thread, all messages in that thread will also
be deleted.

Re: question about Dice world

2016-10-23 Thread Shawn Krasniuk
Hi all. I kinda have a feeling I know what's going on. The sounds are also low
on my phone which is an SE as well and not only that, when I play any music in
the background, the quieter sounds stop the music that's playing when they
occur. I'm thinking that it's an iOS 10 thing because I think in their release
notes that they mention something about more support being added for iOS 10.
It's annoying and I've tweeted them about this already. All we can do is wait
to see what they do about it.

Sieghard, your point about security is very well taken. I definitely would like
to see very clear and understandable language regarding Google's policy for how
they make their devices secure, and what they do with all that data. Since
they're in the data business, caution seems very warranted.

The Alexa app has never been wonderful, although it got better, quite a bit
better for a while. Kevin, do you work for Google? I ask only because that
seems to be the case, based on stuff on other lists. I don't doubt that you
like the product, end it may be every bit as great as you say. but I think it's
only fair if you do work for them to say so.

RE: Alexxa App

2016-10-23 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I love the idea of these smart home speakers, but I wonder that not more people
are concerned about privacy issues. Here you put something into your home that
listens to everything that goes on and while it is supposed to only react when
you say a keyword, who knows if it isn’t sending everything it hears to
Amazon’s or Google’s servers where this raw data is mined for certain
information. I’d be especially worried with the Google Home device since
information is Google’s business. I guess in a way one can say this about any
smartphone, but the microphones on these devices are so much better and are
made to pick up speech from across the room. Has anybody read what Amazon and
Google are exactly saying in their privacy policy regarding these things? Then
of course there is the potential of these devices which are part of the
“internet of things” getting hacked and even if Google and Amazon set
boundaries and behave themselves, I’m sure if some hacker got control of it
they would use whatever they might harvest to their greatest gain and, most
likely, this would be to the greatest harm of the user. Does Alexa or Google
Home even have any sort of security? I shudder of the thought how many of these
things are connected to WiFi passwords where the router’s password is
“password” or whatever else the default might be. I’ll hang tough on these
things until maybe Apple releases something equivalent which hopefully has
better security as per the article Mary posted about how Home Kit devices are
apparently a step above of most other things out there. In the meantime I just
spent a bunch of money on a very fancy dovetail jig for my woodworking shop,
it’s made of cast aluminum and steel, there isn’t a cable on it and the only
way to hack it would be if somebody took an axe to it *smile*. It won’t tell me
the time, what the weather Is like and it won’t read a book to me, but it will
give me endless hours of joy when I make drawers, boxes and chests with fancy
dovetail joints and it also won’t be replaced with a better model next year or,
for that matter in 5 or 10 years; sometimes we do need to get our priorities
straight.

Siri has been out of beta for a while and has been in production for 5
years, but still have rough-edges? It's great that privacy is so great, but
it defeats the point if usability is so low.

Re: Questions regarding Uber

2016-10-23 Thread Andy Baracco
Yes, you enter your card info when setting up the account. Personally, I find
it easier to do things like this on the PC, but you can do everything on the
app itself if you wish. Some blind folks find it advantageous to upload their
photo to the app. I do not know if the driver has access to that photo or not.
You can set up favorite locations for home and work. Once you request the ride
and are assigned a driver, you can communicate with the driver via text or
phone call.

Hello everybody,

As my subject says, I have some questions regarding Uber. I already have the
app on my iPhone 5s. I'm a little confused as to how it works.
Do I put in my card information, when I set the app up? Also, what other
information might be needed? I have a friend who uses this app, and they have
told me that when they request a trip, they can add information to their
request.
How does that work? Any help, suggestions, thoughts, or chips, it will be very
much appreciated. I've never used anything like this before. So it is a new
experience for me.

Thank you,

Re: question about Dice world

2016-10-23 Thread Dave

Hi Jen,

try signing out and removing the game and doing a back-up to iCloud, before
reinstalling it, and signing back in to Dice-World again.

As doing a manual iCloud back-up on your phone, before reinstalling, should
hopefully, remove any traces, of any Dice-World Data.

Good evening folks.

If it would be easier, I can forward the email I get with the link in it.

Great experience with eat24

2016-10-23 Thread Kathy Brandt
I was able to place an order without a hitch, and even do an online chat. It
was great, given how GrubHub, despite several updates, never addressed any of
the problems I've told them about over the years. I think it this point I am
only going to keep the app to have the menus available for the restaurants to
deal with directly. A real disappointment, since the app used to work, but now
even on safari I can't get anywhere, so it's getting worse. Just thought you
all would like to know that there is an alternative.

Re: question about Dice world

2016-10-23 Thread Dave
Hi Louise,

I am not familiar, with the iPhone SE. So I can’t really give you much advice,
regarding how it sounds and the settings, although, they are probably, much the
same as the iPhone 6.

You could try rebooting your handset, and if that doesn’t work, you could try
signing out of Dice-World and removing the game from your phone, and
reinstalling it, and signing back in again.
Sometimes this works.

However, you really need advice, from someone, who has the iPhone SE, as they
would know more about that particular phone.

Sorry I couldn’t help you more.

Dave.

What is all the stuff about 3D dice, 3D rooms, etc.?
Is that accessible or even important to voiceover users? Also if my sound

Subject: question about Dice world

Hi to all members:

Today I updated Dice world and I have a question for anyone who plays it.

I have the latest updates for my phone and have the SE phone.

Okay I played the game and the sounds of the dice are not as loud and I enjoy
the sounds. I would like help by others who have updated and have played is the
sounds quieter for you also.

If anyone can share the email address with me to write them I would also like
that as I want to figure out if there is a setting I can change or did they
make the sounds quieter.

I use voice over and it is the same but the games sounds are so lower and I
want to hopefully get them back to what they were Louise and princess Kiara

iCloud Documents and Data that are hidden

2016-10-23 Thread Grant
Hi all,

I’m wondering if anyone knows a way to see (and possibly delete) “hidden”
iCloud data that doesn’t show up in the user interface. It would be great if
one had the option of “starting over” so to speak.

For example, I think iCloud stores containers for every app I’ve ever
installed, some of which aren’t visible in iCloud’s “manage storage” settings
or in iCloud Drive on a Mac or PC. However, I can see traces of them here and
there.

To give just one example, if I do a spotlight search on my Mac, I can see a
folder under ~/Library/Mobile Documents/SE69VQ73SR~com~mipsoft~blindsquare.
Presumably this is the container for the BlindSquare app which would have my
database of favourite points of interest and other settings. And, presumably
the reason this is showing up on my Mac is because the Mac stores everything in
my iCloud account.

Now, I definitely wouldn’t want to erase that particular container and I’m glad
it’s there, but the point is I’d love to be able to view all the data stored in
my account and have the option of deleting some of it. I’m not a developer, but
I think developers have the option of hiding their ubiquity containers if they
so choose.

What do you think?

Cheers,

Grant

Hi!
Maybe someone already wrote about this but I wasn't able to folow
the list for the las couple of days.
1. After upgrading WhatsApp or FB Messenger the default
notification sound changes to triton. It repairs after restarting
the app or the whole phone. How to avoid this?
2. I managed to integrate WhatsApp, Viber and Skype contacts with
my existing phone contacts. However, when I want to create a
favorite I'm able to choose only between standard phone call and
Skype call. I can't set the WhatsApp or Viber call as favorite. Is
there any way to achieve this?
And one more. I read on Applevis there is an iOS 10.3 update

Check out https://aftershokz.com/ I have their original Bluez

Unlocked iPhone 6 64Gb Gold for sale

2016-10-23 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hello List,

I have asked for and received permission from Mark to post this.

We are selling an unlocked iphone 6 64 Gb Gold which was my wife's, but she now
has my 6S as I bought a 6S Plus a while back.

I bought this phone from her in January of 2015 after she came to Canada from
the Philippines and also bought Apple Care Plus. This means the phone still has
coverage for another 3 months and whoever buys it therefore is still protected
for a bit. I can forward the email I received when I purchased Apple Care Plus
to the buyer.

I guaranty that the phone is in perfect working condition and it is also
cosmetically almost like new, my wife always had it in a case of some sort and
always put on screen protectors.

It is unlocked and we still have the original box, you also get the original
Apple wall adapter and I have a brandnew, still wrapped Apple Lightning cable.
I do not, however, have a new set of earpods.

We are not home right now, but I think there is at least one case with belt
clip I can send along and we may have another one or two, I'll have to look
when I get back next week.

The phone has been upgraded to the latest version of iOS 10, I have already
signed her out of all services on this phone such as iCloud, iMessage and
Facetime and once we are ready to send this off I'll do a full restore so that
it will boot up to the setup screen, at that point you would just press the
home button three times to start Voiceover and complete the setup.

I also took this phone to one of the Apple Stores here in Calgary, they ran a
diagnostic on it and everything checks out perfectly and the Apple Genious also
cleaned out the Lightning port to make sure it was free of lint etc.

We are asking $525 Canadian or $425 US for the phone and that includes shipping
anywhere in North America by Canada Post Expedited Parcel service which comes
with a tracking number.

If you want it shipped by courier like UPS, Fedex or Loomis/DHL add $25
Canadian or US and I can do that, too.

Payment by Paypal, if you are interested contact me off-list at
siegh...@live.ca and we can sort it out. If you are in
Canada you can also send me an Interac email money transfer.

If you have more questions also contact me off-list, the price is not
negotiable and I have also posted this on Craig's List and Kijiji here in
Calgary, we are from a small town in British Columbia, but will be still here
for another week or so.

My email address, siegh...@live.ca, is also registered
with iMessage and Facetime.

Regards,

Sieghard
