Hi David,

Yes there is a way to do that. Go back to the book you are reading. There is a
button which says play enabled. If you hit that button, the book will pick up

Am I supposed to carry my cel phone during a uber ride in India when paying with Paypal?

2016-12-03 Thread fzlmahmood30
Hi, list.

I plan to take a Uber ride on Friday in India as I am visiting there.
Should I carry my cel phone during the ride if I pay with Paypal? I am asking
this because I am not using my cellular data here because of high toll charges
for roaming. I use wi-fi only. I leave my iPhone fife S at home because of the
mobile snatching that is a routine in the area I am visiting. Would I need the
phone at the end of the ride because I am paying Paypal?
Thanks?
Thanks!

Yes, I have noticed that intermittently. My solution has been to search for the
podcast I want and open it that way. But for the most part, it works much of
the time without a need for this workaround. Keith

Re: problems with downcast

2016-12-03 Thread Brian Hansen
This problem started for me as soon as iOS 10 came out. I've gone back to using
the built-in podcast player because of crashes in downcast related to iOS 10.

Brian

Re: problems with downcast

2016-12-03 Thread Wayne Merritt
I have not encountered that issue and I use Downcast regularly. When
you choose a podcast, do you mean that you are picking the podcast
name to listen to that has the list of episodes, or are you picking a
particular episode to listen to and a different episode plays? Please
explain.

RE: question if the amazon echo elexa is avlaible in Canada?

2016-12-03 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Mich,

As Jim pointed out there are ways to get it, but I think you are wasting your
time and money since there are serious limitations here. For that reason alone
I would not buy it, if Amazon doesn't want to support Canada with the Echo they
can keep it as far as I am concerned. It does sound interesting, but it's a
gadget and it is much easier to live without an Echo than to not live without
it. I'm also interested in this sort of device, but I'm in no rush since in a
year or two these things will be even better and there is I think a good chance
Apple will release something similar, I could even see that an updated Apple TV
could include this type of functionality. All it would need is a microphone or
maybe I should say better microphone since there already is a microphone in the
remote and it would either have to have an integrated speaker for normal,
every-day sort of questions or interface with an existing stereo/system.
Hopefully it would be both since you don't always have your TV/stereo system on
and I really hope that one of these days Sonos integrates with one of these
devices so I could say something like "Play Dire Straits in the bedrom via
Apple Music" or "Play Supertramp in the living room via Deezer" or "Play such
and such book from Audible on my bedroom Sonos player".

Sieghard

RE: apple tv, and emails

2016-12-03 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Ryan and Pablo,

I wouldn't even attempt to guess why Apple does what it does, you can speculate
but you may totally miss the point and you'll never find out. I think, Pablo,
you know from previous complaints you had with respect to what you can do with
your phone, how Apple downloads updates to your phone automatically and how
they don't allow you to downgrade unless it's within a few days or a week of
when a new iOS version first comes out that they do as they please. Steve Jobbs
is famous for his attitude which basically was that people/consumers don't know
what they want until he/Apple tells them what they need and offer them a device
that does it. You can discuss, argue and complain forever, but that is the way
it is and if you own Apple devices you either take it or you go elsewhere. I
know from our private emails that you, Pablo, did go to Android for a while and
realized that while you have more freedom to do things, the grass on the
Android side of the fence is not greener which I assume is why you are back on
iOS.
I think in time there will be a version of Safari for the Apple TV and maybe
third-party browsers. Personally I don't think I'd use it a lot for browsing
and I doubt I would use it for email, after all, why would I do these things on
the Apple TV when I can do them perfectly well on my iPhone or a PC. You can
tell me what you want, but I would bet any amount that I can browse faster and
do email faster on my PC with Jaws than you can on an iOS device. I use my
iPhone to look at email and read it and if I'm out and about I will use it to
reply to an email or send one, but I'd never do this if I had my PC next to me
at home or in the office.

Regards,
Sieghard

Hello all,
Need a little help.
On my iPhone 6, I went to the notification center, once I got down to the
bottom of my notifications, I knew that there was more, so I did a three finger
swipe up and it told me page 8 of 10. But when I did a swipe down to read more
notifications, all of my notifications had disappeared.
I have the search and dictate button at the top, and then I have where it tells
you what page you are on. No matter what I do, I can not get my notifications
back!! If I hit the home button to go to my home page, then go back to my
notification center, the page is still totally blank.
Any help with this would be appreciated.

Thanks,

If you previously purchased Fleksy VO then all you have to do is go to the
"Updates" tab in the App Store app, double tap on the "Purchased" button at the
top and then either go through your list or do a search for "Fleksy" and you
will find it. I have all sorts of apps there which are no longer available if
you search the App Store, but they are available for me to redownload.

app store anymore is there a way to share the program.?

Not sure if you know, but you wrote the message in the subject.
Regarding Fleksy VO, if it is not in the App Store, you would not be able to
share it from there. If however you still have it on your device, you could go
into the Fleksy VO app, and swipe down to the share item, or go to it's
settings and find share there. I haven't used it in awhile so can't say exactly
where share would be. I haven't deleted it from my phone though since it really
is useful every so often. With Braille Screen Input being my main method of
text entry, I haven't needed Fleksy VO.

My guess is you would have to be able to save the photo to your Camera

RE: Apple watch's Bluetooth capabilities

2016-12-03 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
There is nothing you actually need to do, whatever WiFi you are connected to
with your iPhone works for the Apple Watch. At this point the watch without an
iPhone will of course give you the time and you can set alarms and timers and
so on, but for the full experience the Apple Watch is currently very much
dependent on the iPhone being connected.

Yes, I agree that a virtual keyboard in that little screen makes no sense.
However if the apple watch has wifi capability, my iPhone needs to be connected
to the wifi first, and this settings are used for the apple watch. Now I have a
couple of questions based in this situation.
The apple watch keep permanently the wifi configurations stored in the apple
watch?
Or it needs always the iPhone around to be able to connect to a wifi. Once the
iPhone is connected to the wifi, the settings of this wifi are transferred to
the apple watch, or these settings needs to be transfer every time?
Thanks

No, I don't think so, the watch connects to the same network your phone is on
so there is no actual WiFi settings on the watch itself.
Also, note that there is no on-screen keyboard, you can reply to text messages
(or send them) using SIRI and SIRI alone.
There also is no phone keypad which in my opinion is stupid and unexplainable
to me since there is a keypad on the screen to enter your security code for
when the watch is not on your arm. When it's on your arm you can unlock it the
first time simply by unlocking your iPhone with touch Id, consequently you
don't have to unlock the watch as long as it stays on your arm. What I don't
get is why there is no phone DialPad if it clearly is possible to have a
functional keypad on the screen. Granted you don't often need it, but what if
you want to make a call with the watch where you have to navigate even a simple
menu like "Press 1 for Customer Servive" or "Press 2 for Technical Support".

I have an iPhone 7 & I'm not having the described problem of the phone number
keypad disappearing once a call has been made. I've seen other messages from
people having the same problem, but haven't seen anyone have a solution to the
problem.

My friend has an iPhone 7 and for some reason even if I bring up the phone
app and select keypad and call a number once the number connects the keypad
goes away and you need to click on keypad to get it back.

Is there a setting that controls this?

  I didn't see one.

I never have that problem with the iPhone 6 s I have and we are both running
the latest IOS.

  Thanks for any help.

Sorry if I was misunderstood. I am 68 so I am old. I intended the

The perception that being old, or over weight, or short, or blind as
something bad, is just opinions. The app is going to see that there is

perceive that being old or being blind is something bad, it is our problem.
I don't see as a problem that the app detail these kind of things.

RE: emoticons on iPhone

2016-12-03 Thread Alan Lemly
Anna,

Do you mind giving us a short refresher on the emoji replacement function in
iOS 10? I Googled it and read through a few of the hits but the descriptions
were all done from a visual perspective and seemed to use either orange or
yellow words for hits with emoji replacements. This wasn't much help. I'd love
a review or direction to a discussion of this feature from a voiceover
perspective. I also think certain things must be turned on in settings such as
a predictive keyboard but I'm not really clear about this. I tend to turn off
anything predictive or automatic where keying information in is concerned since
the algorithms used seldom come up with my intentions. I also bet that using
the Fleksy Keyboard for input messes up the emoji replacement feature.

Thanks in advance.

Help with syncing

2016-12-03 Thread Kimber Gardner
Hi All,

I feel a little silly asking for help with syncing considering that
I've been an iPhone user since 2012. But suddenly, I don't seem to be
able to control what content syncs to my phone or even when it syncs.
Even though I have checked the option not to sync automatically, when
I plugged my phone into my laptop, it immediately began to sync apps.
So now I have a bunch of apps on my phone that I didn't want. Not only
that, but I can't figure out how to get my music synced. I can't
figure out how to point to only the music before I sync.

Admittedly, I haven't synced with iTunes in a while, but this is
ridiculous. Can anyone help me?

That just makes no sense, I just tried it again and it worked perfectly with

front camera. This came up a few weeks ago and I took several pictures and
video with the rear camera and I took pictures with the front camera and then
made a Facetime Audio call to one of my employees with the screen curtain on.
He said he could see me fine and all the pictures I took were just fine. Like I
said, screen curtain blacks out the screen but not any of the camera lenses and
what iDentifi does is use the main phone camera to take a picture, then the
picture is uploaded to some server and when the result is available it comes
back and is spoken, the screen just doesn't come into play here.

I have done most of my pictures, including the ones set to text, with the
screen curtain on.

Hi Robbert,

I am pretty sure it adjusts the focus to highlight what is corrently in the
foreground, presumably to correct for any movement when taking the picture.

Also for those people who aren't getting any results with this app, before
launching the app, be sure to toggle off The screen curtain.

Cheers Brett.

After taking a picture, one of the choices says something like focus locked

tell me the purpose of this choice.

Thanks.

Hi,

One thing you could try would be typing the word wombat in a message and using
the Emoji replacement feature to get it. I think that once you entered it that
way, it would be in your recently-used Emoji.

RE: question if the amazon echo elexa is avlaible in Canada?

2016-12-03 Thread Jim Noseworthy
Hello:

The Echo is not technically available in Canada and cannot be purchased from
Amazon; however, you can purchase that animal from “Pale Blue Living”, a store
in Toronto. Here is the link:

http://paleblueliving.com/blogs/saving-energy-in-style/127742467-buy-the-echo-dot-and-amazon-tap-in-canada

Your best option, however, might be to purchase the item from B&H Photo in New
York. They ship to Canada and take care of all of the customs duty charges
and, shipping is free. You can obtain the item much cheeper from them than
with Pale Blue Living.

You should understand though, that there are minor limitations in using the
Echo in Canada at this time since the setup will not recognize Canadian Postal
Codes. Unlike the Google Home unit which can identify where you are, the Echo
must be informed where you live. So, for example, if you wanted to know the
temperature where you live, you must include the name of the place where you
live when asking Echo the question.

Pale Blue Living has good information concerning using the Echo in Canada.

Hope this helps.

2016-12-03 Thread Don Breda

I just set up my friends Roomba 980 yesterday.

I was able to set it up completely without sighted help so that is a big
plus for roomba.

Some of the buttons on the app could be labeled a bit better but for the
most part its accessible.

The battery gage is not accessible.

It also appears as if the status of the roomba may not be accessible
either but haven't been able to test this completely as yet.

Seems very positive :-).

Dear Mr. Holdstock,
Thank you for contacting the iRobot Customer Care.
We are happy to hear that you are interested in our products.
The iRobot is aware about the voice-over which is available on the
Apple mobile devices and we are working to improve the iRobot Home App
and to make it easier to use for the visually impaired people.
I have forwarded your e-mail to our development department. The Home
App is under constant development and it is updated regularly. I will
inform you as soon as possible if there is new update particularly of
the voice-over technology.
I would also like to thank you for your feedback, it is very important
and will help to improve the robot's features even further.

Hi,
Yes, I have had both Roombas and now a Neato Connected. The
Roombas were pre the most recent incarnation, thus, not running with
an app. So, I can't speak to that side of things. I always loved my
Roombas, but the Neato is, really, a new generation and incredibly
effective and efficient! When I first downloaded the app, it was
accessible up to about 90 percent, only the battery status was not
viewable. Unfortunately, the last two versions allow for only the
most simple of commands, though, the battery status is now viewable.
This means that they can do it, obviously, they just need to commit
to accessibility. I tried to write them a report re this, but found,
ironically, that my iPhone 6, running the latest version of IOS,
would not write in the edit field on their support page! This is an
IOS problem and not a Neato one. I suppose we just have to learn to
accept the accessibility is something that we need to keep reminding
the various developers about. However, and I imagine that this
applies to Roomba too! The Neato connected is usable, at its most
basic level, just by pressing one or other of the two buttons. It can
be used, without the app and it will do its job, you just have less
control over modes etc. Luckily, I have the original app on my iPhone
4s, so can do everything, including seeing the battery status on my
6. Just as an aside, I have found, since IOS 10, I have been using my
4s more and more, which is running 9x. more than anything, I wish we
could, easily, revert to previous versions of apps when we discover
new accessibility issues. I don't have the use of a computer, using
my iPhone, independently, so iTunes backups are not a possibility for
me and I don't really like the Cloud
In short, speaking for the Neato, not having the latest Roomba,
we can, certainly, use it, but for full functionality, the app needs
to be rewritten with accessibility in mind. However, I would like to
say that the Neato is the easiest of all the Robot Vacuums, that I
have seen or read about, to maintain, empty and find. It has an
excellent navigation system, better than my own! and, almost, seems
to have its own character!! I love the way it takes a running jump
when it encounters a particularly difficult threash-hold, going into
my porch. And when it gets itself into a tight place, it is wonderful
to see it lift its bottom and try to extract itself, almost virtically!
I would encourage all owners of these divices to contact, IOS being
capable, the developers to tell them that you are a VIP owner and
need them to be aware of VO when putting out app updates.

Happy hoovering! Sandy.

Hi Richard,

Interesting, I just tried again and insured I was using the back facing camera.
With screen curtain on I never get a result, but if I disable the screen
curtain before launching the app, I get a result every time.

I don't see why it would make a difference, but I am using an iPhone SE. It
doesn't make any sence to me but I can replicate it here every time.

Strange...

2016-12-03 Thread fzlmahmood30
Hi, list.

I am using the native email email client for my email needs.
How can I expand a thread of email messages?
Thanks!

2016-12-03 Thread michv
hi all. I just was listening to a podcast about the amazon echo elexa and was
wondering if this portable speaker thing is avlaible in Canada from amazon.ca?
I did a quick look and all I saw was a speaker cover for this and that is it.
also I am wondering for any other Canadians on this list if any of the services
that it offers are avlaible in Canada? the podcast I lissend to was from the
US. well many thanks. from Mich.
