I believe it is the apps that are the problem, not the keyboards.

Pages, has never been very good with VoiceOver on a device.
Word has gotten better.
I'll have to try it with my Logitech keyboard and see if I have much
success.
I primarily use Writer for document creation and when it is finished, export
it as Word or RTF.

I have spent hours poring over guides in Applevis and on the web but i have
never found bluetooth keyboard commands to work with Voiceover on ios to
move within the Pages app or Word app to go to the start of the next line,
start of the next paragraph or start of the next page of text. Does anyone
know if any of these Bluetooth keyboard commands exist? I'm using Amazon

the United States is a bigger market than the UK. It is no surprise
that a global company wants to launch a product in the world's biggest
economy. The app reads currency, so might the currency of each country
need to be able to be recognized before it is rolled out in that
country? Also, North Americans spell many English words differently
from how those in the UK, Ireland, South Africa, Australia, and New
Zealand spell them. this issue may be important when creating
accurate OCR.

Re: Calls missing from recent calls list

2017-07-19 Thread Julian
Hello all,

The situation the Kimberly describes is normal and expected behavior since the
phone was in airplane mode. Airplane mode means that all the radios, including
the one that handles phone calls, or turned off and thus your devices no
contact with the outside world. Any call that comes in during this period gets
routed directly to voicemail but your carrier hence the reason it shows up in
your voicemail list but not your recent call list.

RE: Navigating using keyboard

2017-07-19 Thread Richard Turner
I believe it is the apps that are the problem, not the keyboards.

Pages, has never been very good with VoiceOver on a device.
Word has gotten better.
I'll have to try it with my Logitech keyboard and see if I have much success.
I primarily use Writer for document creation and when it is finished, export it
as Word or RTF.

I have spent hours poring over guides in Applevis and on the web but i have
never found bluetooth keyboard commands to work with Voiceover on ios to move
within the Pages app or Word app to go to the start of the next line, start of
the next paragraph or start of the next page of text. Does anyone know if any
of these Bluetooth keyboard commands exist? I'm using Amazon Basics keyboard
with iPhone 7 Plus or iPad Air.

find my friends

2017-07-19 Thread Billy Maynard

hello everyone,

I'm reposting this because I thoguht my message might have gotten lost
inthe shuffle of the MS AI ap being discussed.

I last week (I think) posted a question on how to get push notifications to
work on find my friends. my partner and I both have iPhones. (6+ for me and
7 for him.) I set it up mostly because he's a truck driver and I'd know
where he was. I set up locations for me so that he would be alerted when I
left or got to these locations but, he says he's not getting notifications.
I beleave tracking and location services are on for both of us so I'm not
sure why he's not getting them. If anyone has more experience than me I'd
appreciate any help.

Sincerely,
Billy Maynard

Re: recumbent bikes

2017-07-19 Thread Ben Mustill-Rose
Hi,

The ones that officially support iOS are going to be Apple type
expensive though and if I recall correctly they didn't mention if the
SDK would be open to everyone or a handful of handpicked companies.

I'm also looking for a similar product and the approach I think I'm
going to take is to by a normal bike and a Bluetooth heart rate
monitor. Obviously this doesn't give you as much info as a truly
connected bike, but based on my (admitidly limited) understanding of
these things the main metric you should be monitoring is your heart
rate so hopefully it will suffice.

Cheers,
Ben.

Re: MLB At Bat

2017-07-19 Thread Marie
I believe the dialig box that comes up on the lock screen is a generic for
any app with audio running in the background. I don't think the rewind or
fast forward would ever work in the MLB app. It only works with music or
audio books, etc..

Thank you Richard for that email address. Since I wrote my original message
yesterday morning, I have noticed that the stop, and play buttons in the app
have started working again as of yesterday. However, the rewind, pause, and
fast-forward buttons that are visible in the locked screen, still do not
work. I will probably give it a few days just to see if anything changes
during that time. And if not, I will write to that address.

Hey, I am writing to find out if any of you are having the same issues
with the MLB at bat app that I'm now having. The last time I was able to
use the app with no issues was Sunday, July 9 the last day of the first
half of the season, before the All-Star break. I attempted to listen to
the All-Star game on the MLB app, and that is when I initially discovered
the changes to the app. Now, if the screen is locked, and I press the
power button to begin unlocking the screen, there is now a 10 second
rewind button, and a 10 second fast-forward button in addition to the
pause button. However, neither of those buttons work. And now, since
those two options to fast forward, and rewind, have been added, the pause
button no longer works either. This really became a major issue when the
baseball season started up again this past Friday. The other thing that
has happened a couple of times that has never happened before, is now,
when I get ready to switch from one game to another game, sometimes the
first game that I'm listening to continues to play. Then I have both the
first game, and the current game, playing at the same time. And now,
since the pause button isn't working, neither is the stop button. The
only way that I can actually get the games to stop playing, is to
completely close the app. I obviously still love using the app to listen
to games, but because these things have started happening, it has now
become much less enjoyable. I would just like to know if anyone else is
having these same issues, and if anyone knows how I can write the
developer, and let them know that these things are going on. Any feedback
would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I know exactly when it will be available.
The day Microsoft makes it so.
Nobody ever knows dates until the company themselves announce it.
Frankly, unless there is an issue with Microsoft and a particular country, I
don't know what the reason for the delay would be.
I know they have had issues with the UK in the past.
It is such a great app, I hope it doesn't take long for you who cannot access
it.

Adding a phone number to Contacts, from a text

A friend has asked this question, and I also find similarly.

I got a text and want to add their phone number to my Contacts on my iPhone,
how do I do this? I’ve been in all the options from the text message, but can’t
seem to find it.

I think the phone number should be there, but VoiceOver doesn’t read it. If
creating a new contact, and I don’t know their phone number, what sense does
that make?

Thanks.

As far as what else can be displayed, it looks like it is under touch ID and

It looks like the third screen with the weather, etc. is called the Today view.
I do not currently have a passcode set, and it seems that I cannot turn off
that view. The instructions I found on how to change what is on the locked
screen say to go to settings, touch ID and passcode, then to enter your
passcode, and then you can turn on or off the today view, notifications view,
wallet and apple pay, home control, etc. So I don't know if you can customize
this if you don't have a passcode set.

Hi R, on my lock screen I have three pages. One seems to be current weather
past reminders stock quotes and things like that. Two seems to be the regular
lock screen and three is the camera. On my husbands phone which is the same
phone, a 6 s. He has only two pages. The camera and the standard lock screen. I
have roamed all over in settings and cannot find where the settings would be to
change what is on your lock screen. I can't even find the place where you
choose how your phone is locked. Never for every 30 seconds or things like
that. What am I missing? Would somebody please tell me where to go. Come on,
how could you miss up a chance like that. Take care.

Nand money reader is definitely the best app, it works great. I guess we'll see
how well Microsoft Seeing AI will work once they add a currency channel, if
it's as good then I'll probably just have Seeing AI on my phone because why
have a special app for money if Seeing AI will do it as well. It will be
interesting to see also if Seeing AI will support canadian and other currencies

If you buy an Apple TV it always comes with a remote. Especially on the fourth

don’t care to unlock my iPhone each time I want to do something. You can also
pair a bluetooth keyboard with an Apple TV and this is handy if you like to
type in search requests for music or movies or to enter user names and

Re: Microsoft seeing ai project

2017-07-19 Thread Mary Otten
My initial luck with the barcode portion of the app was very good. The last
couple of times however, I have gotten to where it does the really fast
beeping, and keeps doing that, but I don't get any barcode recognition. I don't
even get it telling me it's not recognized. It seems like if I was doing it
right the first few times I should still be doing it right whatever that means.
But I can't get from fast deep to barcode recognition. Any hints?

RE: Scanning and OCR of text on iPhone screen with an external scanner?

2017-07-19 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
You don’t hold them at all, push them simultaneously and let go. If you hold
for any number of seconds you are not actually turning off the phone but you
perform a hard reset.

Hi,

How long should one hold the Home and Power buttons in? (This is a 5S.)
Certainly if I hold the Power button in for long enough together with the Home
button, like four seconds, then the power turns off.

Hi,
Make sure the screen curtain is turned off.
Then, do a screen shot with the home and power buttons pressed together.
Then, share that screen shot with an app like KNFB Reader, Seeing AI, Prizmo
Go, and they should be able to get some of the text.
The issue you will have is how clear and crisp the text is.
Digital newspapers are not known for being terribly clear.

HTH,
Richard

With VoiceOver off, sighties can zoom in and enlarge or decrease the text size.
With VO on, this option apparently disappears.

I tried scanning such a screen on my PC, and got a blank page. Speak Screen
doesn’t work either, either with or without VoiceOver on. (Siri says, “sorry,
there is nothing to read here”. Well there is, Siri girl.

Subject: Scanning and OCR of text on iPhone screen with an external scanner?
Hi,

Has anyone ever tried doing OCR from an external scanner where text of an
article onscreen on the iPhone (or iDevice) cannot be read by VoiceOver. I’m
thinking of digital newspaper text on the iPhone screen that is not/cannot be
read by VoiceOver. Would scanning it on a CanoScan scanner – used by Kurzweil
1000 attached to a PC - potentially do any damage to an iPhone screen? (Of
course, would or could one get any satisfactory results thereby?) My newspaper
app can’t be transferred between devices, and I can’t export stuff from it to
DropBox – there being no facility provided for it (and/or I can’t read it. The
search boxes read fine, and do the page numbers. If I type text into the search
box, I’ll get results back, which are read by VoiceOver. But that is of course
a very tedious way to have to get through an article or articles.

Thoughts on this proposition?
Thanks.

RE: Microsoft seeing ai project

2017-07-19 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I am pretty sure they use existing barcode databases so there is probably not
much Microsoft can do if a barcode is not recognized. I guess they could add a
function like in Digit-Eyes where you could add a description, text, voice or
both, to a barcode which was not recognized.

As far as what else can be displayed, it looks like it is under touch ID and

It looks like the third screen with the weather, etc. is called the Today view.
I do not currently have a passcode set, and it seems that I cannot turn off

Hello Kimber,
Yes, I have seen this behavior and it is normal. When a phone is in
airplane mode, only voicemails received will be shown. A recent call
will not be shown since the phone is not able to receive calls in this
mode. Missed and all calls incoming and outgoing are only registered
when the phone is set out of airplane mode.

Calls missing from recent calls list

2017-07-19 Thread Kimber Gardner
This morning I noticed something strange going on with my recent calls
list on my iPhone7. My phone was set to air plane mode because I was
in a situation where I absolutely could not be disturbed. When I
turned off air plane mode I saw that I had a voicemail from my vet's
office. Strangely however, that call is not listed in my recent calls
list. It is under neither the missed calls nor the all calls list, but
the voicemail was definitely recorded. Anyone ever seen this behavior
or have any thoughts? My provider is T mobile if that makes any
difference.

Recently y'all helped me realize that with 10.3.2 on my SE took away the
screen locked words and replaced it with little sounds.

Today Nelly's vet called and I could hardly hear her because of all the
words and sounds the SE was making behind the voice of the vet. I am
only guessing, but it reminded me of VO.

There are 2 main concerns right now.

1: SE tells me the time, etc and makes those noises when I pick it up
from where it has been lying on a flat surface.  I want it to be quiet;
sometimes it will just give time, etc when not being disturbed. Even
when I have the ringer turned off.

2: The jabbering that goes on while I am placing, receiving, or talking
on the phone. What do I need to do to quell this jabbering?

BTW, I am using my phone only as a phone if that makes any difference.

Please help me tame my overly vocal SE.

Any help/thoughts/ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks,

Nancy & the SE

also like the bar code function because it lets you know when you're

Re: free apps from other countries Apple Stores

2017-07-19 Thread Dave

Hi sandra,

it's Dave, from your other list.

As you know, i am in the UK, and i know what you mean.

The best way, to try to get these companies, which in this case is
microsoft, is to Email them, and let them know, how you feel about this
matter.

That's what i did.

I'm not saying it will make a difference, but it is all we can do.

It is also the same for people in Australia.

It really doesn't make sense, when they leave out, major English speaking
countries.

Also, what makes me laugh, is that one of the developers of this app, is
from the UK.

Dave.

Re: belkin lightning device

2017-07-19 Thread Alan Lemly
Janet,

The Belkin lightning adapter Rockstar that I mentioned last week and that sells
for $39.95 at the online Apple store lets those with an iPhone 7 convert its
lightning adapter into two lightning adapters so they can both use the wired
earpods and charge the phone at the same time. You don't charge wired earpods
so I'm confused by that part of your question.

free apps from other countries Apple Stores

2017-07-19 Thread 'Sandratomkins' via VIPhone
hi,
I am getting so impatient waiting for the Microsoft seeing AI app, living in
Ireland, as I do. I know I can set up a separate Apple ID et cetera and go to
the US store, but is there any way around all this? after all, it is a free
app! I want to avoid having to set up with payment cards and addresses that I
don't have et cetera. does anyone have a quick and easy solution for me?

thanks for any inspiration, Sandy

Hi Kay,

Well, I can tell you where to go for one of these, anyway. Regarding changing
the length of time until the screen locks, go to display and brightness,

As far as what else can be displayed, it looks like it is under touch ID and
passcode in the settings. I have the same things you do on the locked screen.

Take care.

also like the bar code function because it lets you know when you're

Thank you Richard for that email address. Since I wrote my original message
yesterday morning, I have noticed that the stop, and play buttons in the app
have started working again as of yesterday. However, the rewind, pause, and
fast-forward buttons that are visible in the locked screen, still do not work.
I will probably give it a few days just to see if anything changes during that
time. And if not, I will write to that address.

best recording app

Hi,

I need a recording app in which i can rewind and forward minute by minute or at
least 5 10 minute intervals and which records when there is speech but stops
recording when there are long pauses. Are there any free easy to use apps that
can do this or how much is a good easy to use accessible app that can do these
things?

Thanks, Husna

belkin lightning device

2017-07-19 Thread Janet Bell
I would just like to ask if the belkin lightning product that was talking about
on this list last week charges both the airpods and iPhone at the same time.
Reason for this is that I saw one yesterday but couldn’t work out how you
charged them both at the same time. Janet
