Re: help, getting braille files attached to iPhone email somehow

2017-08-23 Thread regina alvarado

Richard, I would love to send from my apex, but I cannot because my gmail is
IMAP. I heard once there was a setting in gmail that would take both pop and
Imap. I am willing to set back to pop if I need to. However, I like imap
because I can take mail off computer or iPhone and it is deleted on both. If I
need to actually go back to pop, where do I find the settings in gmail? I
wanted to just make a new email account for just my braillenote for the course
but found that there was a capcha when I tried. Grrr!

RE: Backbeat Sense by Plantronics, was FW: Bluetooth headphones

2017-08-23 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Anthony, as I said before, it's a matter of how you perceive things, I also
have the Voyager Edge and I have tried out the Apple Airpods at an Apple Store
and for both I notice about the same amount of lag. It's not huge, in many
situations you may not think there is lag, but when I notice it it's annoying
enough to make me want to use my wired Earpods.

YouTube and camera settings

2017-08-23 Thread deidre muccio
Hello all
I hope these are not too basic questions that might make your eyes
roll.
First, I've got an iphone 6 with 10.3.2 running on it. I probably
updated to that over 3 months ago when the older phone died and I was sent a
replacement.
There may or may not be a few things that are different since
updating that I don't know how to deal with.
First when I go to lock the phone I hear the camera shutter go off.
It is a different sound than the lock screen sound. I do not believe I am
touching any other thing like the home button or anything on the screen.
Neither do I believe that I have accidentally opened up the camera app.
What is that about?
Then there is YouTube which no longer seems to open and
automatically play videos that I hit on from Facebook. They always used to.
Now I have to swipe to find a play or watch the video in question and that
button doesn't always activate anything either.
Similarly now when I go to read articles from links on Facebook I
have to scroll from one page to the next. Is this due to a particular web
site's way of laying things out, or has something changed that I can switch
back to reading continuously? Did I miss a bunch of tips on what's new
that can account for these changes?
Thanks for your patience.

They come with the micro USB cable for charging, but no wall charger.
They offer one, which we bought, for $6.00.

They come in a very nice box, with also a very nice carrying case.
The selling point for me was that they can connect with two different

That must be subjective then because I spent about 15 minutes in an Apple Store
with the Airpods and noticed the lag instantly, it was probably as good as
bluetooth lag gets, but my Voyager Edge and a couple of other bluetooth device
I have are no different.
In my case the Plantronics Backbeat Sense were so bad that I packed them right
back up and returned them which was easy as I had bought them from Amazon. That
was about over a year ago so maybe they have done something to the current
generation which makes it better. I rarely use a bluetooth keyboard so this
terrible lag was using the onscreen keyboard and I would say it was at least a
three quarter second, that is absolutely too much to be acceptable.
I have yet to try any bluetooth device with no lag, the technology at this
point is such that a 0 lag device simply does not exist.

Yes, I agree. I don't read them all, but I like seeing the headlines and
being able to choose which ones to read that I'm interested in.

Thanks much.

Verizon permanently throttling video on all unlimited plans, as low as
480p

on iPhones

We noted last month that Verizon was throttling Netflix and YouTube usage
for 'unlimited' plan users even before they hit the 22GB level at which
the

company says it may reduce bandwidth - and it has now been revealed that
this was just stage one.
Verizon is now starting to throttle all video on its 'unlimited' plans,
with

bandwidth limited to as little as 480p when watching on a smartphone .

As The Verge reports, Verizon is splitting out its so-called unlimited
plan

into three versions.
.Go Unlimited: $75/month. Video capped to 480p on smartphones, 720p
on tablets.
.Beyond Unlimited: $85/month. Video capped to 720p on smartphones,
1080p on tablets.
.Business Unlimited: Price varies. Video capped to 480p on
smartphones, 720p on tablets.
Not only this, but unlike the previous plan which allowed the carrier to
reduce your data speeds after 22GB in one month, small-print in the basic
Go
Unlimited plan lets Verizon do so any time there is network congestion -
aka

the company not providing enough bandwidth to meet customer needs. The
company does say than anyone unhappy with performance on this plan can
upgrade to Beyond.
Existing customers can keep their current plan, and you'll also get 15GB
of

full-speed LTE hotspot usage (up from 10GB) - but that still won't protect
you from video throttling.
This is what's likely going to enrage Verizon customers most. No matter
what
plan you're on - whether it's the old, grandfathered unlimited data plan
or

a tiered plan or the new unlimited plan - Verizon is taking a tighter grip
over video streaming. "Moving forward, HD video on all legacy plans will
also match Beyond Unlimited's HD quality."
So you'll soon be limited to a maximum video quality of 720p streaming on
phones and 1080p if you've got a tablet on your plan.
The company claims that nobody can tell the difference between 720p and
higher on a phone and 1080p and better on a tablet, claims which are
clearly

ridiculous on an iPhone and iPad.
Customers were able to circumvent the previous Netflix- and
YouTube-specific

throttling by using a compatible VPN, but it's unclear whether this will
help if the company is limiting the bandwidth of all video. The new limits
kick in tomorrow for new customers, and 'soon' for existing ones, so it
seems we won't have to wait long before we find out.

Re: Verizon permanently throttling video on all unlimited plans, as low as 480p on iPhones

2017-08-23 Thread Kelly Pierce
People forget over the air broadcast television does not typically
have the high resolution available online and on DVD. I live in
Chicago, one of the top media markets and only one of the stations
owned by the big broadcast television networks is in 1080 and it is I
rather than p. Everyone else is at 720. On a small iPhone screen, it
might not make much difference between 480 and 720 in bright colors
and sharpness.

It reminds me of the issue of bitrate on audio. People used to scream
that higher was better. This was until listening tests were conducted
in cars, buses, urban streets, trains and airplanes. In these real
world situations, listeners could not tell the difference between 256k
and 320k audio mp3.
