the App Launcher

Hello there everyone,

I was asked by an Apple employee to share with people.

If you have a problem where words are cut off when performing actions within
the Notification Center there is a remedy. The remedy is as follows:

1. Please go to Settings/General/Accessibility.

2. Then got to Assisistive Touch and inside the Assistive Touch menu option
there is an On/Off toggle Switch it must be on.

3. Now while in the Assistive touch menu you may swipe to the right or use the
rotor to find the Headings rotor setting if that’s set within your rotor
settings under Voiceover. And find Custom Actions.

4. Under the Custom Actions heading you will find a setting which is a button
and it also says “None” which is fine.

5. Double tap on this button.

6. Under this button you will find a double tap time out and set it by using
the increase button or typing “0.40.

This allows Voiceover to have a little more time to speak when in the
Notification Center. This may also be useful for single actions but I have had
no reason to change anything there.

Hello Anna,

Wow!

I finally located the Hide option.

It never occurred to me to explore the actual Collections screen.

Wow!

Thank you.

Hi Mark,

In the iBooks app, choose Library if you're not there already, and make sure
the My Books tab is selected. Double-tap the button in the upper middle of the
screen that says, "Books," or "Collections," or something similar. At the
bottom of the screen is a toggle called "Hide iCloud books." If you turn this
on, only the books on your device will show. Double-tap the Done button in the
upper right corner of the screen to exit Collections view.

Best,
Anna

Apple Quietly Releases iTunes 12.6.3 With Built-In App Store - Mac Rumors

2017-10-09 Thread M. Taylor
Apple has quietly released iTunes 12.6.3, which reintroduces the ability to
download App Store apps and ringtones from within the iTunes desktop
software.

Apple is making this version of iTunes available because "certain business
partners might still need to use iTunes to install apps", but the download
is basically available to anyone looking to reinstate the functionality that
was removed in iTunes 12.7.

If you've already installed a newer version of iTunes, you can download this
version of iTunes on your Mac, PC 32-bit or PC 64-bit and run the installer.
After installation is complete, you can continue to deploy apps with iTunes.
You won't be prompted to download new versions of iTunes after you install
this version.
Installation packages for Mac and PC (32-bit and 64-bit) are available for
download on the support page. After the installation, most users will need
to rebuild their iTunes Library. To do this, hold down the Option key when
the app launches and in the dialog window that appears choose "Create
Library...". Give the new library a name that's different to your existing
library, and then migrate over your albums using the Add to Library...
option under the Files menu.

Apple released iTunes 12.7 in September and said the new version was
designed to focus solely on music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, and
audiobooks, which was the reason behind the removal of the built-in App
Store. Following the change, apps and ringtones could only be downloaded on
an iOS device.

This special "business edition" of iTunes includes compatibility with iOS
11, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X. It's not clear how long Apple
will offer iTunes 12.6.3, and the company does not provide technical support
for this version, but for those who want the functionality it could be a
useful makeweight until Apple comes up with an alternative solution.

iTunes 12.6.3 can be downloaded from:

Stuck in All CAPS

2017-10-09 Thread Tom Lange
Hi all,
This may sound weird, but I have never had this happen until after I updated
this phone to IOS 11.0.2. For some reason, while commenting on a Facebook post
or maybe I was responding to an e-mail, using my Braille Sense U2 as a display
and external keyboard, everything I typed was in ALL CAPS. No matter what I
tried I couldn’t get it back into mixed case. Even disconnecting the U2 and
tapping away on the onscreen keyboard’s Shift key did no good. I made a test
note using only the onscreen keyboard, trying to go back to mixed case and
still no joy. So I restarted the phone by holding down the Sleep/Wake button
and the Volume Down button for a few seconds. Going back into the test note it
was still in all caps. Now, while writing this message, I find that the
keyboard’s operating properly. Have there been any reported cases of
intermittent problems with switching in and out of all caps? Is there a Braille
keystroke that I may have inadvertently pressed to turn on all caps, and if so,
what is that keystroke? I’d sure like to know so I don’t do it again; I don’t
fancy the idea of shouting at someone in an e-mail or on Facebook unless I have
a damn good reason.
Thanks,
Tom

RE: Can One Still Submit App Reviews via iTunes 12.7?

2017-10-09 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Sieghard,

I prefer to write my reviews in MS Word, on the PC or Pages, on the Mac and
then copy and paste the text into the iTunes desktop app review edit field.

This not only allows me a more comprehensive editing experience but, permits me
to review the iOS bug report steps, if any, in real-time, as I type.

Given that Apple has removed app management from the desktop computer, can one

I would hate to think that one is now limited to using an iOS device for such

Please Join Me in Requesting that the Twitter for iOS VoiceOver TrendsForYou Bug, Be Resolved As Soon As Possible

2017-10-09 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

I am cross-posting this to both the V iPhone and Mac Visionaries mailing
list.

As of the latest Twitter for iOS app release, v7.8, VoiceOver users cannot
access article headlines located in the "Trends for You" area.

Please join me in requesting that the Twitter for iOS VoiceOver "Trends for
You" bug be resolved as soon as possible.

The following is the review I posted in the App Store. You are welcome to
use any or all of it in your feedback to Twitter:

[BEGIN REVIEW]
SUBJECT:
Request to Fix VoiceOver Accessibility "Trends For You" Bug

Unlike in previous versions of the app, in the latest release of Twitter for
iOS (v7.8), VoiceOver, Apple's software screen reading solution for the
blind and low vision, cannot access the "Trends for You" area of the app.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1.
Make certain that VoiceOver is enabled.

2.
>From within the Twitter for iOS app, select the "Search and Explore" tab,
located near the bottom center of the display. The current headline article
will be displayed. This area of the screen is VoiceOver accessible.

3.
Either by single-finger swiping from left-to-right or using
explore-by-touch, place VoiceOver focus on the "Trends for You" heading,
located just above the middle center of the display.

4.
Now, single-finger swipe from left-to-right in order to read the currently
trending article headlines. In previous versions of the app, the trending
article headlines would be read, out loud. Now, however, swiping from
left-to-right results in nothing being read, out loud, even though there are
trending article headlines being displayed on the screen.

The only workaround, at this time, is for a VoiceOver user to continue
swiping from left-to-right, until VoiceOver focus lands on the "Show More"
button, the activation of which, will result in a VoiceOver accessible list
of trending article headlines.

I fervently request that this VoiceOver accessibility bug be addressed as
soon as possible.

Thank you,
 [END REVIEW]

Here is my tweet on this issue:
[BEGIN TWEET]:
Please fix #iOS @Twitter app #VoiceOver #TrendsForYou Bug. See #MarkTheWave
iTunes Review for more details. @Support
[END TWEET]:

The following is the text of the feedback I submitted via Twitter's feedback
tool, which has a 500-character limit:
[BEGIN FEEDBACK]
Request to Fix VoiceOver Accessibility TrendsForYou Bug
Select "Search & Explore" tab. The current headline article is displayed.
This area is VO accessible. Place VO focus on the TrendsForYou heading.
Swipe from L-to-R to read the currently trending article headlines. In prev
vers of app, the trending article headlines would be read out loud. Now
swiping from L-to-R results in nothing being read, out loud, even though
there are trending article headlines being displayed on the screen.
[END FEEDBACK]

Post your request in the App Store, as a review, send a tweet to both
@support and @Twitter, and Submit a formal request to Twitter via the
feedback form located at:
https://support.twitter.com/forms/feature_report?feature=tweets.

As always, thank you for your support and I'll see you on Twitter,
@MarkMarcus.

Re: Don’t you think that ios Voiceover sound scheme need some change now?

2017-10-09 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I think the last big sound scheme change in Windows was Windows Vista,
but let's go with Windows 7 in 2009. Sure that's 8 years, but Windows
goes back to the early 90's.

I wouldn't want the iPhone sound schemes to change just to change, but
that doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement. What would you like
to see changed?

I don't think there are too many Talk Back sounds, but one nice app in
Android is Audex, where you can choose a different sound scheme and even
customize it to get as many or as few sounds as you would like. They
even have sounds schemes based on the iPhone, Windows and more.

Hello All
I’ve not got the opportunity to use Iphone3g. However, I have been
seen that voiceover sound scheme on Iphone has remained untouched and
unchanged since iphone4. Sometimes, I think that the old sound scheme
does not go well with the esthetics and beauty of the present days
Iphones. Does anyone also  echo my concerns, or am I the lonely seeker
in the  journey of the quest of more pleasing voiceover sound schemes?

Waiting for your views.

Akhilesh.

Resolved: iTunes 12.7 and Music Sync post iOS 11 upgrade

2017-10-09 Thread Alan Lemly
I posted the below message on 10/6/17 when I could no longer see the marked
playlists I chose for syncing when on the Music tab below my connected to
iTunes 12.7 iPhone 7. After speaking with an AppleCare support rep a few
minutes ago, I now know why I was experiencing that behavior. I made the
mistake of applying info from the thread on this list about getting
ringtones back and had checked the option to Manually manage music and
videos. This setting really didn't apply for what I was doing and in fact is
what messed up the display of my marked playlists for syncing. I unchecked
that manually manage box and allowed iTunes to perform whatever was needed
after changing that setting and now all my playlists are displayed again
with their checkboxes.

Hope this might prove helpful to someone else who might experience this
issue.

Alan Lemly

Hi Folks,

I've been following the posts about how iTunes 12.7 works differently than
the previous version in this post-iOS 11 environment. I think I've gotten
the gist of what's needed with ringtones. However, I'm a bit perplexed why
anything would have changed with music. Music isn't ringtones or apps so I
would have thought that my music syncing would rock along with iTunes 12.7
much as it did with iTunes 12.6.x.

When I connect my iPhone to my computer and navigate below the device
summary listing to music, the panel to the right where it used to display my
playlists with checkboxes for those I had marked to sync now shows the
following:

A Sync Music heading with an unchecked box next to it followed by two radio
buttons the first which says entire music library and announces false since
it is not marked and the second which says selected playlists and announces
true. The odd thing is that this section is dimmed and neither of these
radio buttons can be changed. If I tick the box next to the Sync Music
heading in order to hopefully review my playlists marked for syncing, I get
a question along the lines of are you sure you want to remove existing music
from this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library?

I don't ever remember iTunes behaving like this and before proceeding with
the Sync music action, I wanted to run this by folks here for comments. I
guess Apple is trying to protect those who are connecting their devices
containing content from sources other than the connected computer in order
to warn them that performing a sync will delete that content. I'm more than
a bit confused with this since I would think such an action would be an
exception rather than the rule and this seems confusing to those of us who
simply have upgraded our iOS and iTunes and are syncing our iPhones as we've
always done. It sort of feels as if I'm having to start the process over to
sync my existing playlists with my iPhone in the iOS 11 world. I'm just a
bit nervous about proceeding since my playlists aren't showing in iTunes
even though the ones on my iPhone are still the same. And I do have the box
checked to manually manage music and videos as has been discussed in the
ringtones thread.

Thanks for any comments or suggestions.

Re: Amber Alert wont go away

2017-10-09 Thread Scott Berry
When you say that you have restarted your phone can you tell us what process
you used please? There are a few different processes. If you just shut it
down that probably won’t do the trip probably you will need to do a soft reset
which is where you hold down the home key and the power key together. On my
particular 5s it takes approximately 20 seconds for my phone to reset once
those buttons have been pressed. Each phone may vary though.

There's supposed to be an update to Downcast coming that will address the
recent crashing.
I'm partial to Downcast as it is highly customizable and is pretty
comprehensive. Overcast is good, but it doesn't have as many features as
Downcast, but depending on what you're looking for, it may be enough.
Overcast is a very solid choice. I simply prefer what Downcast offers.
Icatcher was an app that I also used when I first started getting into
podcasts with iOS and while it too is fully Voiceover accessible, the one
killer for me was that it maxed out at 2X playback speed. The dev said that
he had no interest in going beyond that.

Hi Nancy,

I like Overcast because it has great options for listening quickly. Not only
is the audio clear when you speed it up, but there's a "Smart speed" feature
that removes unnecessary pauses, thus speeding up the listening even more.
It also has a voice boost feature that often compensates very nicely for
variations in the volume of a podcast. You can stream or download episodes,
and you can easily delete the ones you don't want. When you first log in,
you create an account, and the account keeps track of which podcasts you are
subscribed to. If the Apple Podcasts app has the ability to export an OPML
file, which lists all the podcasts you are subscribed to, you can import
that into any other podcast app.

Best,
Anna

is a very solid choice. I simply prefer what Downcast offers.
Icatcher was an app that I also used when I first started getting into podcasts
with iOS and while it too is fully Voiceover accessible, the one killer for me
was that it maxed out at 2X playback speed. The dev said that he had no
interest in going beyond that.

Hi Nancy,

I like Overcast because it has great options for listening quickly. Not only is
the audio clear when you speed it up, but there's a "Smart speed" feature that
removes unnecessary pauses, thus speeding up the listening even more. It also
has a voice boost feature that often compensates very nicely for variations in
the volume of a podcast. You can stream or download episodes, and you can
easily delete the ones you don't want. When you first log in, you create an
account, and the account keeps track of which podcasts you are subscribed to.
If the Apple Podcasts app has the ability to export an OPML file, which lists
all the podcasts you are subscribed to, you can import that into any other
podcast app.

Best,
Anna

So normally what I do is simply put the screen in an upright position for the
[prtrait orientation. One way to quickly fix your orientation problem if you
want the orientation the other way is to pull up an app that is in the
orientation that you want and then lock orientation.

2017-10-09 Thread Scott Berry

This may also be useful for single actions but I have had
no reason to change anything there.

 called Double Tap

I'd like the iPhone interface itself to have sounds, just as it has a few
haptics now.

Hello All. I am particularly interested in TV apps that would be useful in
Canada.

I have tried TV guide mobile and it wants a ZIP Code. Therefore I have been
unable to use it because it does not except the Canadian postal code.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Thank you. Barry

Re: Podcast apps

2017-10-09 Thread Kay Malmquist
This is totally off subject but not. I knew I had over cast on my phone but
couldn't find it. I also knew I could just have siri open it, but wanted to
know where it was. I roamed around in my phone and found it. It was in my
weather apps folder. Wonder what I was thinking then? Wrong kind of Over
cast don't you think?

Re: The DirectTVNow App.

2017-10-09 Thread Hope Paulos
Hi! I have this application both on my phone and on my AppleTV. The application
is much more accessible on the Apple TV, I can use the guide successfully. On
the phone, however, the best way I find to use this app is to do a search for
the show that I'm looking for, or the channel. Once I do the search, it saves
it, and when I want to go back to that particular channel, I go to the search
button, and above the edit field are the saved searches. I double tap, and it
will play. I hope this makes sense. If you have any other questions, let me
know!

Hello,

I too have just signed up to use Directv Now. The app is kind of weird at
times. I have found sometimes that you have to double tab and hold on the show
that you want to watch. This is not very consistent though.

I hope this helps,

Podcast apps

2017-10-09 Thread Nancy Badger
Hi everyone,
I am totally frustrated and done with apples Podcast app. I have heard people
on this list discussing downcast, and other apps. Could you please tell me
which one you prefer and why? I want one where I can easily delete the episodes
that I do not want to listen to. I would also prefer not to have to resubscribe
to everything. Thanks in advance for the help

Hello All
I’ve not got the opportunity to use Iphone3g. However, I have been seen that
voiceover sound scheme on Iphone has remained untouched and unchanged since
iphone4. Sometimes, I think that the old sound scheme does not go well with the
esthetics and beauty of the present days Iphones. Does anyone also echo my
concerns, or am I the lonely seeker in the journey of the quest of more

Re: Is There No Way to Hide Purchased iBooks in iOS 10 or Later?

2017-10-09 Thread Woody Anna Dresner

Best,
Anna

Open Voice Dream, double tap on the spot where you would select a folder. That

Flick through to sort by bolder and double tap.
The first button should be an add button. Double tap and you will have the

I would definitely second a sound scheme change.

Hello All
I’ve not got the opportunity to use Iphone3g. However, I have been seen that
voiceover sound scheme on Iphone has remained untouched and unchanged since
iphone4. Sometimes, I think that the old sound scheme does not go well with the
esthetics and beauty of the present days Iphones. Does anyone also echo my
concerns, or am I the lonely seeker in the journey of the quest of more
pleasing voiceover sound schemes?

Waiting for your views.

Regards,
Akhilesh.

Spotify and Twitter: Another way to have the song title within the Tweet, rather than just the link itself?

2017-10-09 Thread Gerardo Corripio
Before on Spotify, when I'd share via Twitter, it'd say Now Playing plus
the song title, and afterwards the Spotify link, for whoever wanted to
go onto Spotify and listen to the song, right? Since several Spotify
updates though, when sharing via Twitter, it only says the Spotify link!
I used to perform a workaround during the pre-iOS11 era, via a workflow
that when run, aside from placing the Spotify link on Twitter, it'd
place the title of the song, but when I updated to iOS11, sadly this
workflow stopped working, popping up the message of "Twitter couldn't be
found". So is there any other workaround you guys can think, or have
used of to accomplish this feat, aside from manually writing the song
title on Twitter before sending?
