Mark,

Glad you got a replacement that works. It's a good product but I still miss the
headphone jack.

Hello Alan, et al:

Well, as it turns out, I had a bad adapter.

I simply took the unit into the Apple Store, along with my receipt of course,
and they swapped it out.

Before I left the shopping center, I tested it and it works beautifully.

Thank you all for your feedback on this.

Mark,

I have a friend who had an issue with her Belkin Rockstar adapter making her
think it was defective. It turns out that she wasn't pressing it firmly enough
into the port for it to completely engage. I didn't have this issue with my
Rockstar adapter but I thought I'd mention it to give you something else to
Tri.

Good luck.

Subject: It's Official: Mark is on iPhone 8 Plus (smile)

Hello All,

Well, I was in an Apple Store today just browsing around when I decided to go
ahead and make the plunge and get a new phone.

While I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with iPhone 10, believe it or not, I do
not like its smaller form factor nor, as a low vision user, its display
aspect-ratio in terms of watching videos. To me, it's just too narrow.
Again, this is just my opinion and my opinion, only.

As for my take on Face ID? Hmm! Well, the thrill of it wore off pretty fast
on me (smile).

While I have no doubt but that Face ID is here to stay, as well it should, I
decided to go with a SIM-free, space gray, 256GB iPhone 8 Plus.

I was surprised to learn that the SIM-free models of the iPHone 8 series
launched in the US at the same time as the carrier-branded models. It used to
be that the SIM-free models were launched no sooner than two months after the
carrier-branded models.

I was told by an Apple Genius, today, that the SIM-free model of iPhone 10 is
not yet available in the US.

Just as an F.Y.I., in the USA, only the SIM-free models ship with a SIM card
removal tool. I have always thought this to be a ridiculous practice of Apple
for, carrier-branded or not, one may choose to remove the SIM card at some
point in the future. Besides, for the amount of money one pays for iPhone, I
think Apple should include the SIM card removal tool, along with a three-course
meal, for that matter. (smile)

I also purchased Apple Care Plus along with my prerequisite screen protector.

I was delighted to discover that the 8 plus fits in the same case as my 6 plus
so no added expense, there.

I updated my Windows iTunes 12.6 to 12.6.3 and it's running beautifully.

As I did not update my iPhone 6 Plus to iOS 11.x, I will make a full backup to
iTunes and restore to the new phone later this weekend.

Okay, I know that's more information than you wanted but, what can I say?
I'm feeling chatty (smile).

Until Next Time,

Mark

Re: a native reminders app question

2017-11-10 Thread Chris Chaffin

I know of no way of sharing a reminders list unless they are part of your
family sharing. This would be a great feature, but Apple has not added it yet.
I tried to see if there was a way of just selecting a list so it might could be
copied, but had no luck with that either.

Subject: Help predictably answering a phone call

List, this is a very basic question. But is a problem that I have had for the
last few years answering a phone call on my IPhone 5S, running the then latest
IOS, currently 11.1.

Any pointers will be appreciated, so here is my problem:

I usually receive a phone call with the screen locked and I have my phone set
up with no log in, either passcode or finger I.D.

When I hear voice over say swipe to open, I know I can usually answer the call
by doing a single finger double tap, as if executing the “answer button” or
whatever it is called.

But when the phone is ringing and I do not hear either “slide to answer” or
“receive call button call”, if I use the standard single finger double tap,
nothing happens and I then use the two finger double tap . Here, it is dicey.
A lot of the time I miss the call.

I have tried just answering the call with a two finger double tap and it seems
to work much of the time, but not always. Again, if I get the call and hear
slide to answer, almost always the single finger double tap works.

Sorry to ask such a basic question, so humor me and do not suggest I get rid of
the IPhone and go back to an earlier type “not smart” phone.

Alexa App & my iPhone Problem

2017-11-10 Thread Carla
OK I'll try to explain this the best I can which will make sense and not be
a novel. I am the second Alexa with someone. When I had my iPhone 6+
everything worked great. Now that I have the iPhone 7 I can't read audible
or kindle books and I can't access our music library so apparently all of my
account info must have gone away when I transferred to the iPhone 7. If
anyone can help me get this back it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Subject: Blindfold Games: The games are back!

I received a call from Adam tonight, and he said the review team had a chance
to look at the Blindfold Games again, and understood why they are separate
apps, and that the games can continue. He mentioned games address a need
that’s not normally considered by most app designers, and acknowledged how the
games are focused on the needs of the visually impaired community.

New updates will be processed, and new games will be reviewed as before. I’ll
go into more details about the discussion in a blog next week, but I wanted to
get the word out to everyone.

I want to thank the everyone for contacting Apple and spreading the word about
the games. I have heard from so many people – far more than I had hoped –
telling me how much the games mean to them, and how they appreciate my efforts.
It has meant a lot to me, and I truly thank you.

Have a great weekend!

Marty

a native reminders app question

2017-11-10 Thread Paul and Paula Jordan
Hi all. I've written a grocery list using my reminders app and would like
to share it so that my friend has it on her phone too. I can't seem to
find a way to select and copy the entire list so that I can put it into a
text to send to someone. I thought there was a way to share a reminder, in
this case my grocery list, with someone in your contacts list. I see a spot
that says "sharing" but when I double tap on that I can't find a way to
write a person's name so that I can email or text the information. I see
something that says "add person" but no text field to put the name into.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

God bless!

Paula and Garcon

RE: A Question About Using the Belkin Rock Star Lightening Splitter

2017-11-10 Thread M. Taylor

I didn't have this issue with my
Rockstar adapter but I thought I'd mention it to give you something else to
Tri.

Good luck.

Larry,
Go to settings, music, and you should see something about iCloud in there. Turn

unable to get my iphone 7 to see music in the cloud

2017-11-10 Thread llumpkin
Hi. I updated everything to ios 11 and now I can't get the iphone 7 to see
the music in the cloud, especially the playlists in my library. I thought
everything was just supposed to come across. I've signed out and back in
again but just can't seem to find it. Any ideas on how to get the cloud
back?

Hi

Do you have a sighted person who can look at your phone to see if any of the
pixils have burned out??? I had this to happen with my iPhone 6 & my phone was

Only by copying them into a text editor, then do the next scan, copy and paste
it after the first, etc.
Granted, more steps, but in my experience, better results.

While Seeing AI needs to be a bit higher off the page, it does a better job in
the document channel than KNFB Reader and it is free.
It maintains the format of the original text more than other OCR apps and since
KNFB Reader ignores all formatting, it is my go to app for scanning whole pages.
I just tried to enter a review in the app store for KNFB Reader and the Write a
Review button did nothing. My sighted wife, with VoiceOver off, couldn't
activate the button either.

All other buttons and links worked fine.
It could be that KNFB Reader is on its way out.

Hi all
Seek inputs on the following
1. How to convert images scanned via KNFB reader to read them on a computer.
2. Often while importing text images from whatsapp to KNFB reader, they get
quite distorted. Apart from improving the quality of the photo and the paper
being captured, is there any inbult function in the KNFB reader so that it can
make better sense of the text in the image?

Thanks in anticipation

(smile)

I also purchased Apple Care Plus along with my prerequisite screen
protector.

Mark

RE: screen acting strange on my iphoen 7

2017-11-10 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Not to that extend since I clean my screen on a regular bases. Occasionally
when I was working in my woodworking shop or was cooking and I touched the
phone with dirty fingers I might notice some weird behaviour when tapping and
swiping, but this always disappears when I wipe down the screen. I'm not very
concerned what I use, it's glass after all and tough glass at that and it takes
a lot to scratch it. Usually I just use the dish cloth or a damp towel, turn
the phone so the screen is facing down which means if there is a bit of
moisture it won't run into the cut at the top of the screen where the earpiece
is or get in around the home button and then I just rub it down, then I use a
dry part of the towel and dry it off.
If you have a screen protector that can of course also be the problem.

Regards,
Sieghard

Re: A Question About Using the Belkin Rock Star Lightening Splitter

2017-11-10 Thread Alan Lemly
Mark,

I have a friend who had an issue with her Belkin Rockstar adapter making her
think it was defective. It turns out that she wasn't pressing it firmly enough
into the port for it to completely engage. I didn't have this issue with my
Rockstar adapter but I thought I'd mention it to give you something else to
Tri.

Good luck.

Re: sound and speaker difference in 8 and 8+

2017-11-10 Thread regina alvarado
I think this is very much a personal thing, but my opinion is definitely the 8
Plus has better sound. I have a moderate hearing loss. The iPad I thought would
help, but the added speaker on the 8 Plus blows my iPad for sound right out of
the water. This is the first phone I have been so happy with since I got my 4S.
I thought iPhone 6 Plus and 7 Plus would be too big, but when I upgraded this
year I thought I would try the bigger phone. Took some getting used to with my
tiny hands, but as I said, this one will probably go through my 18-month lease.
It is that good. Remember, this is my opinion, and I am certain the 8 is just a
wonderful phone, but for my hearing loss with tinnitus, the sound is great!

Subject: It's Official: Mark is on iPhone 8 Plus (smile)

Hello All,

Well, I was in an Apple Store today just browsing around when I decided to
go ahead and make the plunge and get a new phone.

While I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with iPhone 10, believe it or not, I
do not like its smaller form factor nor, as a low vision user, its display
aspect-ratio in terms of watching videos. To me, it's just too narrow.
Again, this is just my opinion and my opinion, only.

As for my take on Face ID? Hmm! Well, the thrill of it wore off pretty
fast on me (smile).

It used
to be that the SIM-free models were launched no sooner than two months after
the carrier-branded models.

I was told by an Apple Genius, today, that the SIM-free model of iPhone 10
is not yet available in the US.

Just as an F.Y.I., in the USA, only the SIM-free models ship with a SIM card
removal tool. I have always thought this to be a ridiculous practice of
Apple for, carrier-branded or not, one may choose to remove the SIM card at
some point in the future. Besides, for the amount of money one pays for
iPhone, I think Apple should include the SIM card removal tool, along with a
three-course meal, for that matter. (smile)

I also purchased Apple Care Plus along with my prerequisite screen
protector.

I was delighted to discover that the 8 plus fits in the same case as my 6
plus so no added expense, there.

I updated my Windows iTunes 12.6 to 12.6.3 and it's running beautifully.

As I did not update my iPhone 6 Plus to iOS 11.x, I will make a full backup
to iTunes and restore to the new phone later this weekend.

Okay, I know that's more information than you wanted but, what can I say?
I'm feeling chatty (smile).

Until Next Time,

Mark

Sounds as though you have a bad adapter. I have one & it doesn't make any
difference which port on the adapter is used for earbuds or charging.

Mark, I have one and you have done everything correctly. All I do is plug the
adapater into the phone, then plug my other two chords into the adapater. It
appears that you could have a bad adapter. Please let me know what happens.

Hi Mark,

I think you did a very systematic test of the splitter. How about callling
Apple to see if there is a setting that should be enabled. So many new changes.

Let us know how you make out.

A Question About Using the Belkin Rock Star Lightening Splitter

2017-11-10 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

I just purchased a Rock Star Lightning splitter from the Apple Store but,
try as I may, I cannot get it to work on any of my iPhone devices including
iPhone 8 Plus, 7 Plus, 6 S Plus, 6 Plus, or 5 S.

Is there some special method for connecting it to a device or do I simply
have a bad unit?

I just don't understand.

I plug the adapter into the lightning port of the phone, then, insert the
power cable into one port and the Ear Pods into the second port. My result,
absolutely nothing. Just to be certain, I took all of my devices out of
their respective cases to insure a snug fit.

All Replies welcome.

Mark

Re: Doubts pertaining to KNFB reader

2017-11-10 Thread Richard Turner
