Re: Best Password Manager

2018-03-18 Thread Maria Reyes
I really love 1Password. I tried LastPass and it really wasn't like 1Password.
So how is Bitwarden different?

iPad Split View and question regarding iPad gesture

2018-03-18 Thread joedinero68
Good Evening Folks

I have 2 quick questions. I am beginning to start to utilize an iPad and
have a couple of hopefully basic and probably dumb questions. I read about a
4 finger tap gesture where on the left and right sides of the screen. What
differentiates this from a 4 finger sweep left and right which I already
know.

Second question is how do you enable split view and have 2 apps run in this
view? I have rarely used my iPad but I just started commuting to work 2
hours each way and may want to use it substantially more. Perhaps a
Bluetooth keyboard is in my immediate future.

Google Lens is now available on iOS, The Verge

2018-03-18 Thread M. Taylor
Google Lens is now available on iOS
By Thuy Ong

Google is officially rolling out its Lens feature to Apple iOS devices over
the next few weeks. Lens is an on-demand object recognition tool, accessible
through the Google Photos app. When users take a photo of a book or
painting, for example, Lens recognizes it and spits out information telling
you more details about the object.

Lens works on photos of business cards, books, landmarks and buildings,
paintings in a museum, plants or animals, and flyers and event billboards.
When you use Lens on a photo that has phone numbers or an address, you can
automatically save this information as a contact on your phone, while events
will be added to your calendar.

Starting today and rolling out over the next week, those of you on iOS can
try the preview of Google Lens to quickly take action from a photo or
discover more about the world around you. Make sure you have the latest
version (3.15) of the app.https://goo.gl/u9uz8z

To access the feature on your iOS device, launch the Google Photos app,
select a photo, then tap on the Google Lens icon. Depending on what the
photo is, you can then check the details Google provides, or take an action.
Google notes that if your web and app activity setting is switched on, your
Google Lens activity will be saved to your Google account. You can delete
any history from your My Activity page at any time. The feature is rolling
out to version 3.15 of the iOS app, so make sure you update.

Lens debuted last October on the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. Google started
rolling out the feature to all Android phones with Google Photos installed
earlier this month.

A List Member Would Like to Order the Scan Stand for use with his iPhone, A Question

2018-03-18 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

Todd Patkus, a list member, would like to purchase the portable scan stand
for use with his iPhone.

I will paste in the text of his question below my signature.

As he does not have posting privileges, you may reply to him, directly, at:
tpte...@gmail.com.

Thank you,

Mark

Original Message:

Mark,

I was going to order the scan stand, but, after I accessed to/opened the
link http://fopydo.com/
to order one for my iPhone so I can "read" documents using the KNFB Reader
app, no place where to order it. Nothing. No prices anywhere, either. All
I see is they talk too much about PayPal and tutorials. Nothing else but
nothing about how to order one. Not very well-organized. Their site is
hard to use as it only takes you nowhere for what you want.

Where is the link to order a scan stand?

If you do not know the answer, you can, please, post this for me on ViPhone.

Thank you.

Todd

Re: Use scenarios for ipad over iPhone for blind users

2018-03-18 Thread Ioana Gandrabur
Thanks so much.
Wondering about the talking atlas app could not find it in the Canadian store.
Is it still available? Any impressions about it?

Do any of you use iPad for music input software with say a virtual keyboard for
writing notes? I use symphony pro 5 and they also have an ipad app. Maybe biger
screen space for virtual kb could be useful?

Finally did any of you use the swift playground to learn programing? Supposedly
it's accessible?

Thanks so much for all your great feedback.

Best,

Ioana

Re: Bluetooth keyboard for iPhone ios10 and above

2018-03-18 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Note that you can use these keyboards with multiple devices. The key
caps just give you a familiar look and feel. For example, you can use
the same keyboard with an iPhone, and Android phone or a Windows PC,
regardless of whether the keys are modeled after Apple or IBM or Microsoft.

Kimber, This keyboard sounds great in the way that it
could be pared up to 3 devices. It does sound very
sturdy. most of the time we're at home, so the fact that
it's a bit heavy might be okay and we could use it at
home. Would we need sighted assistance to pare it up?
Well we might need help at first with it anyway since
we're not old experts at this yet, but I'm just wondering
if it''s easy enough to do, or if we would need help with
paring it up. This has me thinking too, on one device
could you pare it up with 2 different bluetooth
keyboards, as one you would use at home and one that's
lighter that you could take one you go out? Thank you.

The logitech K780 is a very good keyboard. It has the
numeric pad and will pair with three devices. It's
rather heavy and is really not designed to be
portable—if that's a consideration for you. But it's
a good keyboard.

helpful, to navigate with the keyboard.  right now with the keyboard we have I
use it to get further down the list under different areas, such as when I went

how to go word by word would be great, and character by character to find out

Hi all,

I have the iPad Pro 10.5 inch. I love the split view. I can have say the
messages app on the left and Writer on the right so I can copy a message right
into Writer without having to take a bunch of steps to get there. Just
another’s point of view. I also love the audio but the 8+ has great audio also.

  Hi,

The VO key, is not a key, it is a pair of keys. It is the Control Plus
Options key pressed together when you then hit another key.

Joe,

I have this document, hopefully it is helpful. I believe most if not all of
these keystrokes still work.

Use VoiceOver keyboard commands to navigate the screen, select items, read
screen contents, adjust the rotor, and perform other VoiceOver actions. For

the commands, you can use the Control-Option key combination or the Caps
Lock key, abbreviated in the list that follows as “VO.” (To choose a modifier

key, go to Settings > General > Accessibility > VoiceOver > Modifier Keys.)

You can use VoiceOver Help to learn the keyboard layout and the actions
associated with various key combinations. VoiceOver Help speaks keys and
keyboard

commands as you type them, without performing the associated action.

VoiceOver keyboard commands

VO = Control-Option

list of 25 items

• Turn on VoiceOver Help: VO–K

You can pare several keyboards to your phone. I have two Logitech 810s
pared to my phone, one by my bed, and one near my computer that travels with me
and the computer when they go mobile. Works great, and easy to work.

Kimber, This keyboard sounds great in the way that it could be pared up
to 3 devices. It does sound very sturdy. most of the time we're at home, so the
fact that it's a bit heavy might be okay and we could use it at home. Would we
need sighted assistance to pare it up? Well we might need help at first with it
anyway since we're not old experts at this yet, but I'm just wondering if it''s
easy enough to do, or if we would need help with paring it up. This has me
thinking too, on one device could you pare it up with 2 different bluetooth
keyboards, as one you would use at home and one that's lighter that you could
take one you go out? Thank you.

The logitech K780 is a very good keyboard. It has the numeric pad and
will pair with three devices. It's rather heavy and is really not designed to
be portable—if that's a consideration for you. But it's a good keyboard.

Sandy,

I prefer the Edge because of the directional keys, they can be used in place of
single finger flicks. The limited note taking capabilities are very nice, and
the battery is long-lasting.
It has not been refreshed, but is a mostly stable device.

It is accessible, but there are two specific issues. First, it can be
sluggish with some sites with VoiceOver. Secondly, the rotor option with VO-u

RE: Book share an voice dream reader

2018-03-18 Thread Richard Turner
If you have downloaded a voice in VoiceOver, you can select it from within
Voice Dream Reader.

The voice siply has to be available on your device.

For example, I have both Tom and Tom Enhanced in the Voice Dream Voices because
I downloaded Tom Enhanced.
However, I only have one listing for Samantha, because I did not download the
enhanced voice.

Oh, I knew that as far as voiceovers concern. I just wondered if there was an
option for Samantha enhanced in Voice dream reader. I mostly use book Cher to
look more closely at a particular text and when I do that I use my regular
desktop computer with jaws. Other than that it's great that books that I can't
find elsewhere are often available on bookshare. It's a great service.

Richard, That's probably the difference. I didn't see an option for an enhanced

Are you downloading from within Voice Dream reader? You just want daisy.
Audio will be an mp3 that is done with their synthesizer, which I do not find
very good.
BRF, is just for braille displays.
You can pick any iOS voice, or purchase any number of other voices.
Open Voice Dream, select settings, select manage voices.
This is assuming you purchased Voice Dream Reader.
If there is a free version, then all bets are off.

Navigating on the larger screen can be a bit tricky to adjust to, I think.

There will be an additional item on the rotor called containers which seems
to quickly take you to different areas of the screen. This can help when
navigating. I have found it especially useful when in Settings. You might
want to experiment with it, anyway.

Hi,
I would only use an iPad for its extra attery life.
I personally don't like having so much screen area to deal with.

I convert Kindle books to use in Voice Dream reader, so I don't have to deal
with the pauses while pages are changed.

They also do generally have better sound, but I have an external Bluetooth
speaker or good headphones to use for music and books.

It has more volume and better sound than my ipod touch, victor reader stream
booksense and plextalk pocket. It does everything I would do with a
specialized player. With being able to lock the screen while
playing audio content, I get much more play time than with my specialized
players.

Hi,
I would only use an iPad for its extra attery life.
I personally don't like having so much screen area to deal with.

I convert Kindle books to use in Voice Dream reader, so I don't have to deal
with the pauses while pages are changed.

They also do generally have better sound, but I have an external Bluetooth
speaker or good headphones to use for music and books.

Hi everyone
I just got an iPad air unexpectedly. Question for you totally blind users:
What are your main use scenarios where you prefer using ipad rather than
iPhone?

Thanks for your thoughts,

Ioana

I’m not sure if this is the appropriate list to ask this question. If not, I’m
sure someone will nicely or not so nicely inform me smiles! Is anyone using
firefox on the Mac or Mac Air? If so, what are your thoughts? Is one browser
preferred over the other, and if so, why? Please feel free to respond off list
if this is not the appropriate list. Thanks
