Agreed, it just made sense to me at the time. I think we all do that, chuck
money at a problem and hope it goes away.

All advice appreciated, my choice is my choice how ever logical...

Thanks, BobH.

Hello Everyone,

A little over six weeks ago, I ordered the following two products for use with
my Apple EarPods and Apple AirPods.

I have been extremely pleased with them as they function exactly as advertised.

The first item is a set of over-the-ear loops that are designed for use with
Apple EarPods, the ones that ship with the iPhone 7, 8 and X series devices.
I use them everyday on my treadmill as they help keep my EarPods in place as I
exercise.

The second item is a set of over-the-ear loops that are designed for use with
the wireless Apple AirPods, serving the same function as that described, above.

Oh yes it is, if you give them your card most of the time they can
pull up the item, I don't keep receipts. SO allowing the store to see
my card I used when I got the item normally helps, or giving my phone
number even email I gave them when I got the product.

I just got an iPhone 8, I had it on my 6S, and when I updated to the eight, I
was able to get it working. I had to go in and wake it up, and make sure that
it was still on, which it turned itself off, so when I did that, it started

Re: WiFi ports

2018-05-07 Thread 'RobH.' via VIPhone
This is the best ad vice so far, as it clarifies the issue so well. I
understand the other bits and that is a common ip address to
access domestic routers and similar network gear.

Many thanks, BobH.

Subject: RE: WiFi ports

Hello Bob,

Generally speaking I strongly recommend against using any wireless provider's
WiFi connection system. In some cases, one may obtain
a standalone MODEM from the provider, one without any WiFi capability. Then,
one can simply purchase a third-party WiFi router for
approximately $50 and use it to setup a WiFi network.

In other situations, one may prefer to purchase both the MODEM and the WiFi
router from a third-party retailer such as Best Buy.

In many cases, the provider does not offer a stand-alone MODEM and it may not
be possible to obtain a third-party MODEM that is
compatible with the wireless provider's network. In these instances, either
ask the provider to disable the WiFi signal on the
MODEM and then attach a third-party router to the provider's MODEM. Disabling
the wireless provider's WiFi signal, on the MODEM is
not a prerequisite to using any third-party router, however. This is to say,
without contacting the wireless provider, at all, one
can simply purchase a third-party router, and attach it to the wireless
provider's MODEM and it will work after a simple setup
procedure. Some people prefer to have the wireless provider's WiFi signal
disabled in order to reduce confusion as to which WiFi
network to select when connecting devices. This is not really a problem,
however, after one customizes the name of one's WiFi
network.

The bottom line on all of this is that I strongly suggest that you purchase a
Cisco-Linksys router from your local retailer and use
it for your home WiFi network. Then you can connect as many devices as you
like without fear of being limited by your wireless
provider.

Using a third-party, stand-alone router such as NetGear or Cisco-Linksys, also
adds a layer of privacy from the wireless provider
that I greatly appreciate.

You can access the setup/software configuration system on both the NetGear and
Cisco-Linksys devices by simply entering a URL
address from any browser connected to the router. For example, the default URL
for all Cisco-Linksys routers is 192.168.1.1.

Finally, in order to setup a router, without installing some kind of software,
you will need to physically connect a computer to the
router via an Ethernet cable. Once you have configured the router, however,
you can, should you choose remove that Ethernet cable
and connect to the router, wirelessly.

I realize that this is a lot of information to absorb but the process is really
quite simple and straight-forward.

In my opinion, I think that the benefits of setting up one's own home WiFi
router network, as opposed to using a wireless provider's
WiFi network, is well worth any effort.

Good Luck,

Mark

No, not done that with routers. Sure someone suggested 6 wifi devices was set

Hello,

I am unsure what country you are in, and also how the system works however most
stores in the UK can print out your receipts from a few years back with a scan
of your credit card. The shop assistant admitted he could do this, but it
'wasn't company policy.'

This is all I have and all I do, so most channels come out of TuneIn. This
covers the most common or popular.
The Sleep command in conjunction with that make the device worth it's price.
Talking radio alarm clock,... any idea how much the
V.I specific ones cost?

These Echo's are a revelation in our world as VoiceOver was in phones.

Indeed, talking calculators will go to the wall next, since Echo can do more of
that than any previous calculator so far, let alone a talking one.
E.g: turning iOs calculator to landscape for scientific functions, still
doesn't offer a cube root function.

ok, getting a bit OT and your dad might not be interested, but ya never know!

You do not need Prime, just a free Amazon account to set up an Echo.
So, Giannys Father could use it so long as he has WiFi.

Hello,

I don't think you do, unless you have to have prime to get an echo in
the first place. I have had prime since before I had an echo so I'd
have no experience in using one without it.
However, their are a lot of radio aps you can get for the echo that
come to no extra cost, like radio player. If you can let me know which
stations your father will likely use, I would be more than happy to
investigate and recommend an app for you.

Re: chime app not announcing

2018-05-07 Thread Mama Peach
I have this app and it is still working for me just as it always has. I am
using IOS 11.3 on an iPhone 5 SE.

Subject: chime app not announcing

Hi all. I’ve been using the chime app for several years and it has worked
flawlessly. However, it has now totally quit. I’ve done both types of reset
and uninstalled and re-installed the app. Everything is set correctly in
notifications also. Someone once talked about a re-set which was either re-set
all settings or re-set network settings, I can’t remember which. They said
that that particular re-set fixed a lot of whacky problems. Could someone
refresh my memory and explain the difference and what might be lost with each
type of re-set? Thanks as always for any help.

God bless!

RE: WiFi ports

2018-05-07 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I assume Rob has a combined modem/wireless router from his provider based on
what he says. I think it' smuch more common in a techi crowd for people to buy
their own routers and to sometimes spend significant money for a high-end
router. With one of them you can of course do what you want, upgrade it, change
the password and so on, I doubt you can easily upgrade a router provided by
your supplier. I am not sure if they are set to upgrade on their own, but doubt
it.
At work I have at least 12 or 15 wireless devices connected to my router and
have no issues.

Hi

Something's not right there. You're correct that some routers have a limit but
I'm as good as certain that that's not what's happening here. Do you happen to
know the model of your router? I'd also echo the suggestion of a firmware
update.

Cheers,
Ben.

Hello,

I am unsure what country you are in, and also how the system works
however most stores in the UK can print out your receipts from a few
years back with a scan of your credit card. The shop assistant
admitted he could do this, but it 'wasn't company policy.'

RE: AppleCare Plus Still Worth It? What's Your Experience?

2018-05-07 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi James,

As a retailer myself who deals with a lot of customers and warranties I
completely agree with the merchant here. If you expect to have something
replaced or repaired under warranty and proof of purchase is required then that
proof should come from you and it should not be the responsibility of the
merchant/store to try and figure out whether you bought the item. If the
merchant has a computer system where they track sales that is different, we
have that as well and if I have a customer as sometimes is the case who doesn't
want to give us their information so we can put them into our database then I
always explain to them that we primarily do this for the purpose of warranties
and that if we don't have a record of the sale we can't help with the warranty
unless the customer produces the sales receipt. Since we sell products with a
5-year or even lifetime warranty most people of course don't have their receipt
5 years or 10 years later.
I am not sure what you mean by doing a simple credit card check. There is no
easy way to look up if a customer purchased something from my store using just
their credit card, if they know the exact day when the item was purchased I
would have to dig out our copies of the receipts for that day and try to find
the exact amount of the transaction and that of course only tells me how much
they spent and not what item they bought, a credit card receipt is proof that
they purchased something from my store, but it is not proof what it was they
purchased and in some cases the item in question might even be something with a
serial number such as an expensive pair of binoculars, a GPS or rifle.

Regards,
Sieghard

Hi Siegard,

At least in the UK, I must disagree with you. Companies do not seem too
generous with their warrantys, quite the opposite in fact. They have a tendency
to refuse to perform a simple credit card check to make sure you bought the
item, instead expecting you to have keep the receipt for it 9 months ago; once
you produce that you can be expected to provide proof you bought an extended
warranty.
The one exception I can find is pc world, which has pretty much provided me
with a lifetime of free headphones. I use my headphones for work, recreation
and university so they're going to die a lot quicker than most pairs; so the
warranty is two years. The last pair of headphones I had which lasted a whole
two years was probably when I was a child...and when I go in to replace these
headphones, the warranty resets for free. I'm on my third pair.

Hi,
I have a question but maybe it's not the right place here to post it.
My father can't work with an iphone or computer. He is also blind.
I am looking for an internet radio for him. It has to be easyto switch from
channel to channel. And I will put some favorite

channels in there for him.
Does anyone have some experience with this?

Re: question internet radio

2018-05-07 Thread Scott Davert
I'll add my recommendation for the Amazon Echo, though I won't expand
on it, since that takes this dramatically off topic. You do not need a
paid account to use the TuneIN skill. To bring it back on topic for
this list, you can set it up using the Alexa app, though I would
recommend doing the set up through the web. The last time I tried to
set mine up using the iOS app, the list of Wifi networks kept
refreshing every 2 seconds or so, which made it difficult to get the
Echo to connect to Wifi. I know that sighted people do not have this
issue with the iOS appp, but it certainly was problematic from the
perspective of a VoiceOver user. It may be a non-issue for this set up
if your father does not live in an area where there are many Wifi
networks.

Hope this helps,
Scott

 Hi,
I have a question but maybe it's not the right place here to post it.
My father can't work with an iphone or computer. He is also blind.
I am looking for an internet radio for him. It has to be easyto
switch from channel to channel. And I will put some favorite channels
 in there for him.
Does anyone have some experience with this?

Re: WiFi ports

2018-05-07 Thread Ben Mustill-Rose
Hi

Something's not right there. You're correct that some routers have a
limit but I'm as good as certain that that's not what's happening
here. Do you happen to know the model of your router? I'd also echo
the suggestion of a firmware update.

Cheers,
Ben.

Does Echo have a build-in radio or do I need to install tunein? Is it

Re: WiFi ports

2018-05-07 Thread 'RobH.' via VIPhone
No, not done that with routers. Sure someone suggested 6 wifi devices was set
as a limit with some providers, but we have 8 wifi
hand-helds amongst us alone. Echo now up to 4, not sure about security
cameras since i DON'T DEAL WITH THEM. It's not difficult
to see how the modern household soon gets cluttered with this stuff and so does
the bandwidth requirement.

Indeed, talking calculators will go to the wall next, since Echo can do more of
that than any previous calculator so far, let alone
a talking one.

Re: AppleCare Plus Still Worth It? What's Your Experience?

2018-05-07 Thread James English
Hi Siegard,

At least in the UK, I must disagree with you. Companies do not seem
too generous with their warrantys, quite the opposite in fact. They
have a tendency to refuse to perform a simple credit card check to
make sure you bought the item, instead expecting you to have keep the
receipt for it 9 months ago; once you produce that you can be expected
to provide proof you bought an extended warranty.
The one exception I can find is pc world, which has pretty much
provided me with a lifetime of free headphones. I use my headphones
for work, recreation and university so they're going to die a lot
quicker than most pairs; so the warranty is two years. The last pair
of headphones I had which lasted a whole two years was probably when I
was a child...and when I go in to replace these headphones, the
warranty resets for free. I'm on my third pair.
