RE: Help needed scanning iTunes gift card to my account

2018-11-26 Thread Alan Lemly
Donna,

Thanks so much for these detailed instructions. They worked like a charm. My
mistake was I went to the iTunes Store instead of the Apps Store when trying to
figure it out on my own. The camera picked up what it needed without much
effort on my part and when I swiped afterward, Voiceover told me my account was
credited the amount of the card. Easy, peasy with your excellent instructions.

Hi

1. Open the app store app.

2. Tap on Today.

3. Tap on My Account at the top. 4. Swipe down to Redeem Gift card or Code.

5. Remove the strip from the back of the gift card.

6. Swipe to Redeem card using the camera

7. Hold the iPhone about a foot away from the gift card.

8. Can’t recall if you will be prompted when the code has been processed.

Donna

Hi List,

I purchased one of those iTunes gift cards from Amazon over the Black Friday
weekend to get the 20% discount. I know I've seen many posts here in the past
about scanning an iTunes gift card to one's account but I can't for the life of
me figure out the steps to do so. Can someone please post specific instructions
on how to get this iTunes gift card into my account? I see it has one of those
films that must be removed in order to access the magic code.

Thanks in advance.

question about native music app

2018-11-26 Thread R Van Lant
I'm running IOS 12 on an iphone 6S. I just bought an album in iTuens and have
listened to it in the native music app. This CD alternates music with short
vignettes where the band speaks for a minute about a topic. I want to just
play the music and skip the vignettes. Is there a way to do this within the
album? For now, the idea I had is to create a new playlist and just add the
music tracks to that list, but I'm not sure if this was really necessary. If
you want to skip tracks you don't like on an album, can you delete them?

RE: instant pot smart wi-fi

2018-11-26 Thread Cristóbal Muñoz
I don't know about the wifi model, but you can have more than one device
connected to the instant pot bluetooth. You just can't access it from two
different devices at one time.
The smart cooker app is set up on my iPhone XR as well as my wife's iPad. In
fact, forgot to disconnect the instant pot from my old SE and when I connected
to the pressure cooker on my new phone, I got a message from within the app
that I had too many pairings (three devices). To press and hold the pressure
button to reset all pairings. I dismissed the message and so far at least, no
issues. I'll get around to doing that. Just haven't yet.

Just follow the steps given you in the app. The choices given will depend on
where you live. Options such as Uber Pool, and the ability to schedule rides
in advance will depend on where you live. if you live in a large city, all
options should be availabel to you. The price for the trip will be given

Re: UBer on IPhone6

2018-11-26 Thread Andy Baracco
Just follow the steps given you in the app. The choices given will depend on
where you live. Options such as Uber Pool, and the ability to schedule rides
in advance will depend on where you live. if you live in a large city, all
options should be availabel to you. The price for the trip will be given
before you actually request the ride.

Re: Amazon Cyber Monday special on Instant Pot Smart WiFi 6 Quart Electric Pressure Cooker, Silver

Thank you for this link. I do not have experience with the WiFi model of
course, but I love my Bluetooth instant pot. I have heard, however, that the
Wi-Fi app is not accessible. Just bear this in mind at least with a grain of
salt if you are going to make the purchase.

Amazon Cyber Monday special on Instant Pot Smart WiFi 6 Quart Electric Pressure Cooker, Silver

2018-11-26 Thread Alan Lemly
Hi List,

We've had at least a couple of threads in the past on the Instant Pot
pressure cooker with either Bluetooth or WiFi capability. The Bluetooth
model has been discontinued but the WiFi model was only recently introduced
and posted about here by Sieghard. It's regular price in US dollars is
$149.95 but Amazon has a Cyber Monday special on it for another 10 hours
where it can be purchased for $89.95 which is a significant savings. Here's
the link to it which I copied from my browser address bar while on the
item's page:

Operating a HomePod with more than one device

2018-11-26 Thread Mary Otten
Hi all,
I was just listening to David would bridges podcast where he set up his
HomePod. And of course he was in the home app. I have an iPhone 7 Plus which is
no longer acting as a phone, since it doesn’t have a Sim card in it, although
it will do Wi-Fi calling as long as it’s on the Wi-Fi network where my real
iPhone is. I got the impression as David did his set up that you might only be
able to control the HomePod from a given device. So I’m just wondering if I
have to be careful which device I set my homePod up with. That is, if I were to
use my iPhone xr to set up the phone, can I then use my iPhone 7 Plus to do
airplay, say of an audiobook from audible or whatever. Or can I only airplane
from the device on which the set up was initially done? I hope that makes sense.

Does Anyone own both a Sonos One and a Play:1 Speaker - Question About Airplay

2018-11-26 Thread Chuck Carlson
I have read that I can use Airplay on my Play:1 speaker as long as I also
have a Sonos 1. Is this true only when I group the Play:1 and the Sonos 1
together...and does this mean that both speakers must be playing the same
AirPlay content? Stated another way, can I use AirPlay on just the Play:1
speaker as long as I have a Sonos 1 set up in my network even though the
SOnos 1 would not be streaming AirPlay content.

I hope this makes sense.

Big savings today on the instant pot Wi-Fi for US customers of Amazon

2018-11-26 Thread Mary Otten
I just saw an article which mentions that the new Insta pot WiFi model is going
for $89 and some on Amazon in the US. This is the one that has the less than
fully accessible Wi-Fi app which may or may not be made accessible. The buttons
on the unit itself are apparently accessible. So if you are interested in this
device, and have some faith that they will clean up their act accessibility
wise, this is a huge savings. I don’t know if it’s available in Canada. The
article did not say.

Hi all. Just wondering if anyone is still having issues with the “message sent
failure” bug when using siri to send a text message. It generally occurs when
I’m texting someone who has an Android Phone. I have an IPhone 7 running the
latest IOS version. I’ve called Apple Care and done a re-set network
settings. The problem still exists. Any thoughts. I can live with it, but

RE: Black Friday deals, was: Amazon Echo Dot

This thermostat is on sale for $64 today with overstock.com

From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Sieghard
Weitzel
Sent: Friday, November 23, 2018 7:11 AM

Subject: Black Friday deals, was: Amazon Echo Dot

That is a good deal, I guess now that the third generation Echo Dot is out they
really want to get rid of their remaining second generation inventory.
I just ordered a 4 Pack of Meross Smart Plugs for $64 which works out to
$16/each and that is in Canadian Dollars so only about $12 US each.
I recently had ordered two 2 packs of the Meross Smart Wall Switches which need
to be installed by an electrician to replace a standard wall light switch. I
had never heard about Meross, but they have a lot of smart products and it
feels well-made and the app is completely accessible, connecting the smart
switches to my WiFi was actually the easiest and most user friendly process I
have seen in a while for such items.
The only drawback with the Meross products is that they are only Alexa and
Google Home compatible, they don't support Homekit/SIRI, but I do have Alexas
as well so it's not that big of a deal.

Another good deal I saw on Amazon Canada was for a Honeywell Lyric T5 Smart
WiFi Thermostat + a third generation Amazon Echo Dot for $119 Canadian, if they
offer that deal on Amazon.com it would probably be $89.99 US and for a very
nice connected smart thermostat + a new Dot that really is a good deal as well.
We have the Lyric T5 at home, it is by the way compatible with Alexa as well as
Homekit, and I was tempted to order 2 of them for my store where I still use
the old Radio Thermostat connected thermostats I got probably 5 or 6 years ago.
They unfortunately are not compatible with any of the voice assistants, but the
app is accessible and for the business they are on a schedule and I don't do as
much with them manually.

I am a bit disappointed that there isn't a good deal on the new Instant Pot
Smart WiFi. It seems to be still $149 on the US Amazon site and on Amazon
Canada it is $197 and change today where before it was $199.99, a fantastic $2
savings! Also surprised that Best Buy, Bed Bath and Beyond and Walmart don't
even list it at least not here in Canada where I have so far only seen it on
Amazon.

Our big purchase this year is a Vitamix Ascent A2300 blender which is $549.99
instead of $599.99 Canadian, not a super deal, but I had $800 in Best Buy
Canada gift cards and while I was only allowed to use 2 of them during the
online checkout, that still covers $400 which is a good portion of the purchase.

My wife and I are also tempted to upgrade our iPhones to the iPhone 8 because
Koodo Mobile, the provider we are with, does offer a pretty sweet deal. I have
been saying that I am going to keep my 6S Plus for at least another year, but I
saw that on eBay Canada the 6S Plus 64 Gig goes for over $400 so even if I only
got $350 that would cover most of the upgrade. The deal is that for a 64 Gb
iPhone 8 I would pay $150 upfront and then for 2 years Koodo would add an extra
$15 to my monthly bill. That is another $360 and together with the $150 up
front that means I can get an iPhone 8 64 Gb which Apple sells for $819 here in
Canada for $510, if I get $350 for my 6S Plus it would cost me $160 to get an
iPhone 8 and after 2 years my Koodo plan with 6 Gb of data and unlimited
nationwide calling and texting goes back to the $49 I pay now. I would of
course go from a Plus size phone back to a regular size, but I probably would
have done so in a future upgrade anyways.

For anyone interested, if you are an Amazon Prime member, the 2nd gen Dot plus
one smart plug are on sale for $24.95 on their web site. I could not find the

Happy thanksgiving to all and happy shopping.

Do you have access to a computer and have you tried to go to
http://AppleID.apple.com and log in there?

See if you can login with your new Apple Id and password.

As for the old one, what email did you use and to you still have access to that
email?

If so you should be able to go to Forgot Password and get a password reset link
emailed to the old email address.

I assume you now use janet.harv...@outlook.com as your Apple Id? What email did
you use before?

HI Donna,

I’ve tried several times to enter my password, but the phone is not accepting
it, that is my problem. I don’t have any other restrictions either. This is
not just to update an app, this is to update my Apple id settings, in which I
can’t do, so as a result, I will not have access to certain account settings
until I can get this issue rectified. I have never selected any secret
questions either. I’m just thinking when I changed my password a few years
ago, I probably should have updated certain Apple settings, but I didn’t know
at the time I needed to do that.

Janet,

Try entering the password that you use to unlock your iPhone. When installing
IOS updates the iPhone will restart once the update is complete. If you have a
passcode set for restrictions it may be requesting that passcode be entered. My
guess is it wants your unlock password though. If you have forgotten the
password to your first iTunes username; when logged out of all iTunes accounts,
enter the old iTunes user email & swipe to I Forgot. You should have had to
setup secret questions when originally setting up the old iTunes account. You
will be given 2 of the questions, just type in their answer. If the questions
are answered correctly, you will be prompted to enter a new password &
confirm the new password.

Donna

  Hi,

Ok, I signed out, and I signed back in, and that was successful. I’m still
getting the exact same message though. Telling me I need to update my Apple
settings, in which I still get the same message saying wrong password, and then
I get a message saying to enter my Apple id, or I will not be able to use some
services until I update my Apple id settings. I get only one edit field, and
even though, I tried entering my Apple id as well as my password, it still says
wrong password. Any other suggestions? I don’t want to merge my old and new
Apple ID though,

  Thank you all.

Signed out of both iTunes and iCloud on your iPhone. Then try to sign back in
again. Another option is to clear you’re cache. The last suggestion would be
to call Apple accessibility. Unfortunately, there is no way to merge you’re old
and new Apple ID. Concerning iTunes, you should just be able to sign out on the
PC. If not, ensure your library is backed up, uninstall then reinstall iTunes.

  Hi Everyone,

Hi,

The latest update is flaky for me. It will work for a while and then refuse to
load. I have to delete it and redownload it to get it working again. It will
work for a while then maybe even a day or so. It will flake out at some point
and I have to delete and download again. It is very strange. I hope this will
get fixed in the next update.

Re: Does any one stil use iTunes to listen to internashional radio stations

2018-11-26 Thread 'Harry Bell' via VIPhone
After much research, I discovered that internet radio is hidden in the iTunes
sidebar by default!
I have created the playlist as you described with the radio 4 stream in it. The
playlist will play on my Mac but it is marked as “not eligible for the iCloud
music library”, meaning that it will not play on my HomePod. Is there any way
to get an internet radio playlist to play in iCloud music library (and
therefore on HomePod)?
Thanks
Harry
