Query re setting up the Amazon Echo Dot 3rd generation with my IPhone/IPad, and particularly how you set a radio alarm on it??

2019-01-15 Thread 'Eleanor Roberts' via VIPhone
Hi all

I’m wondering if anyone can help me with this one. I received an Amazon Echo
Dot 3rd generation at the weekend for my birthday. Now, I absolutely love it,
but I’m concerned I’ve not set it up properly or not linked something from the
Alexa app properly etc, as one of the things I really want to use it for
immediately isn’t working properly, and I just don’t know why.

Basically, I want to set an alarm on it to wake me up in the morning with my
favourite radio station. However, it won’t/doesn’t seem to want to let me use
the radio station I want to, and yet it’ll set it perfectly happily to any
other station I ask it. Where it gets even stranger is that it’ll quite happily
play the station I want to use as an alarm. So I don’t understand what I’m
doing wrong? So any help/ideas/suggestions would be much appreciated? Are there
things I need to check on the Alexa app, the Dot itself, or any other apps on
my phone??

Also, I thought I’d managed to link my Google calendar to the Dot, but again,
it’s not letting me use all the functionality that it’s meant to have. For
example, it might let me add an event, but it won’t let me move one. So again,
any advice on how I can check that everything’s properly linked/connected would
be much appreciated.

Finally, if anyone has any suggestions on how I can double-check that my Dot’s
set up correctly, things I should do, things it would be worth me
enabling/linking, etc I’d be really grateful. I think I could really make use
of the device, but to be honest, I feel like I don’t have a clue what I’m doing
with it, especially with it playing up like this when I thought I’d done
everything ok.

Thanks for any help you can give.

Eleanor

RE: Problem with the Audible app

2019-01-15 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
While Amazon owns Audible, the Amazon app or, for that matter, the Amazon
website is completely independent from the Audible app and website. As others
have pointed out, you can only purchase books for credits or cash on the
Audible website and you can do that on the iPhone using Safari and going to
www.Audible.com or by going to the website using a PC and your browser of
choice.

RE: smartscale app

2019-01-15 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
The Body Plus WiFi Smartscale and Body Analyser from Nokia (formerly Withings)
works well. Here in Canada it's normally $129.99 Canadian, but I just saw on
Best Buy Canada that it is $50 off until Janjuary 24, only $79.99 Canadian. If
that sale price applies in the US as well that would only be about $60 US. The
Nokia Health mate app is accessible and also works with the Apple Health app so
that if you set it up correctly your measurements also appear in the Apple
Health app.
It measures all the usual stuff, weight of course, Body Mass Index, water
content, bone mass, fat content etc.

got it to do it once, but it thought I was an extra person.
Does anyone have experience with this scale?

This is correct. You can log into the site in question on Safari and purchase
the material, then come back to your app and download. This works well for the
examples cited above with Amazon and Audible.

Re: smartscale app

2019-01-15 Thread Teresa Christian
I just got the Qardio Base 2 scale. It has an app and I got it hooked
up but can't seem to get it to take and/or read what my weight is. I
got it to do it once, but it thought I was an extra person.
Does anyone have experience with this scale?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with letting your phone battery run down more
to 20% or even less and there definitely is also nothing wrong with charging
your phone to 100%. These new and advanced batteries have many safeguards built
in and you simply cannot overcharge them, if you plugged your phone in at night
and charged it all night the charging would simply turn off when the battery is
completely full. If you do this and check in the morning you will see that it
would say "100% on AC power". When it first reaches 100% it will say "100%
charging" which means it is still topping up the last little bit, but when it
says "on AC power" it means the battery is full, charging has turned off and
the phone is now on power with a full battery.

RE: Speech volume.

2019-01-15 Thread Carolyn Arnold
The Center, where I play cards, is low, down in a hollow. Often, Siri can't get
a connection, but, like the guy at Consumer Cellular said, if I go to Contacts
and call, I can make a call. At the end of cards, usually 16-20 people, it is
so noisy that I couldn't hear my phone yesterday without the headset, which, of
course, took a little more time. Anyway, last night, I went into Control Center
and found volume, and it seems to be staying up. I could get it up when
reading, say the weather, but as soon as I went back to the Home Screen, down
it went again. I am glad to have the problem solved.

Go to: Settings, General, Accessibility, VoiceOver, Rotor Settings.
Flick through the list and when you find Volume, double tap so it says
"Selected."
Now, Volume will be on the rotor.
Turn the rotor to volume, and flick up with one finger to increase.

Try doing a two finger flick up and while VoiceOver is reading, tap the up
volume button.
Or, go into the VoiceOver Rotor settings and put Volume in your rotor, then
you can adjust it from the rotor.

2019-01-15 Thread Carolyn Arnold
I haven't tried Apple Accessibilities, but have my phone back in sync - Control
Center got the volume right. Last night before going to bed, 95 percent, this
morning 95 percent. I couldn't believe it didn't lose anything, wondered if I
misremembered the percent from the night before. I wonder if the night I lost
so much if something was left on in Ap Switcher? That is my guess.

This would be a good time to call Apple Accessibility.
But, location services are under Privacy, but you want Navigation apps to use
your location or they won't know where you are.

The issue likely isn't something left open, but a process running in the
background.

Apple Accessibility, I hope, could walk you through the various possible
settings.

RE: flicktype and contacting the developers

2019-01-15 Thread Cristóbal Muñoz
So I finally took the plunge with Flicktype. As far as support, clicking on the
help button on the welcome screen takes you to an automatically generated email
that you can send to the developers. With these types of emails, I usually save
it in my drafts folder and compose whatever message I want to send from my PC
if it’s anything more than the most basic of inquiries.

I do have some questions about the app/service in general though. Regarding
punctuation, there only seem to be a limited amount of default punctuations
available when you flick down. How do you access other symbols like the and
sign or ellipsis, etc? I tried pressing and holding on the period on the
keyboard, but the usual action where alternative characters are made available
doesn’t appear to come up. Same goes for things like accented letters and the ñ.

Re: Visual voicemail

2019-01-15 Thread Deidre Muccio
I'm still not sure that that's enough. I think you can test it out try getting
that greeting at the top of the screen and listen for the Messages to download
when you have cellular data just turned on after it's been off. If you have
unlimited data and under cellular data you have it set to allow The mail app to
make use of it, then those messages will automatically download. And also you
might wanna have notifications on if you're not listening for the sound effects.
