Re: video magnification apps

2019-04-09 Thread Richard Turner
No, Zoom is for magnifying the screen; but Magnifier allows you to use the
phone like a hand-held magnifier.
It has a slider to go from 1x to 15x, and you can adjust the color filters,
invert colors, do a freeze frame shot, lock the focus; much like many costly
hand-helds.

grants and such whereas Voice Dream Scanner is developed by a guy who I assume
does not. Maybe Winston has other income than that from his various apps, but
the same applies to the Seeing Eye GPS, at an outright purchase price of $299
it is pretty expensive especially since Sendero also received a lot of grants
to develop it.

I did read through some mail this morning but felt that as I worked through
what I had, there may have been a degradation in scan quality after doing and
discarding several documents. I tried closing the program and restarting and
finally got something which identified what I had, but just wondering if anyone
else has noted this. It might have been that I was set up at my kitchen table
and I am personally not as comfortable out there as I am in my big chair, page
in my lap, phone to the center of the document, lifting and positioning
properly to get picture. I will play with it some more. Overall, impressed and
pleased and think it will ultimately be useful until or if NFB gets things back
in action with KNFB Reader.

Russ, Thank you as well for that link. That demonstration was clearer to hear,
and I learned a lot of things with the descriptives there regarding settings
which I can try and work with as well.

I am pleased with the purchase. Thanks again for everyone’s help.

Smiles to all,

Dianne and the Fur Crew

How do I share a Facebook Photo to Seeing AI to get it described?

2019-04-09 Thread Kathy Blackburn
I'm running the latest versions of IOS and Facebook on an iPhone 8. I used to
be able to double-tap and hold on a photo in Facebook to save it to my photos,
then go there to initiate sharing to Seeing AI to get the photo described.
Apparently the command has changed. What gesture do I use in Facebook to save
the photo?
Thanks for any help.

Getting

An Introduction for Blind Users
By Anna Dresner.
In Braille (1 vol.), BRF, DAISY, or Word: $12.00 and up

With iOS 12, Apple has made it possible to use
one command to perform a series of steps,
giving you the ability to personalize your
devices to easily perform the tasks most
relevant to you. You can set up a shortcut to
go to a website, send a message to a friend,
skip to the next chapter of a podcast, or find
your AirPods with a single command! Technology
writer Anna Dresner provides a clear and
concise introduction to Siri Shortcuts, which
are based on the tasks you already perform, as
well as how to create, edit, and share
shortcuts in the new Shortcuts app. Using real
examples, Dresner shows how to put steps
(called actions) in a sequence and configure
them with parameters so they do what you want.
Example shortcuts start out simple and get
increasingly complex, so you can learn as much
as you want and find useful shortcuts
regardless of your interest level. She also
helps you find shortcuts created by others and figure out where to learn more.

RE: Help needed removing an app from an inadvertently created folder

2019-04-09 Thread Alan Lemly
Anna,

Many thanks for restating the steps to move apps without using the drag and
drop approach at which I so abysmally failed. Now that I'm reading your
instructions, I recall having read them previously but I couldn't recall them.

Hi Alan,

Once you turn on editing mode, touch the app you want to move, flick down until
VoiceOver says, "Drag," and double-tap. Go to the place where you want to put
the app, flick up or down until you hear the option to drop the app before,
after, or on the item you're focused on. When you get to the option you want,
double-tap. Note that you can drag multiple items at one time. If you decided
to use folders, for instance, you could create a folder, then drag all the apps
you wanted, touch that folder, and drop them there.

I think you will have to move both of the items currently in your folder to get
rid of the folder, but using this method makes doing that much easier than
trying to drag items where you want them.

Best,

Anna

Hi List,

I'm using an iPhone 8 running iOS 12.4.2 and will be the first to admit that I
really don't use folders. I'm familiar with the iPhone editing process but
while attempting to move an app from one page to another, I mistakenly dropped
it onto another app on the incorrect page and iOS automatically created a new
folder which I think it named using the tagged category of the app I was moving
and now I have 2 apps in this unwanted folder. First, if there is a better way
to move an app than double tapping and holding followed by dragging and
releasing to the desired location, I'd love to hear about it. When I attempted
this, Voiceover gave me no feedback on which page I was on. As I only had one
location to which I was attempting to move the app, not knowing the page I was
on sort of made the move operation doomed to failure. I have 14 pages of apps
and all pages are full except for the last one.

I need to confirm the best method to remove the moved app from the unwanted
folder which I'm hoping will simultaneously delete the folder when it's left
with only one app in it. I expect I'll have to open the folder, place focus on
the app I wish to move, single finger swipe down to start edit mode then double
tap and hold the app to move followed by dragging it to the desired location.
As I mentioned previously, I'd love to be able to tell iOS on what page to
place this moved app but I think I'll only have the option to drag and drop it.
Any guidance on the best approach will be greatly appreciated as I'm not
expecting my next attempt to drag and drop to go much better.

After the unwanted folder only has one app remaining in it, will I also need to
drag and drop that app somewhere using the procedures just described in order
for the folder to disappear?

Thanks in advance for any assistance. I know this has been discussed ad
infinitum here but as I don't use folders, I've not paid attention to those
posts.

Re: Help needed removing an app from an inadvertently created folder

2019-04-09 Thread Anna Dresner

Best,
Anna

2019-04-09 Thread 'Dan' via VIPhone
hello list

Without a doubt, this is one of the best apps I have ever purchased. After
downloading it using it once it was fantastic.

I really really love this app I've been doing more scanning in the last several
days and I have in a long while.

Help needed removing an app from an inadvertently created folder

2019-04-09 Thread Alan Lemly
Hi List,

I'm using an iPhone 8 running iOS 12.4.2 and will be the first to admit that
I really don't use folders. I'm familiar with the iPhone editing process but
while attempting to move an app from one page to another, I mistakenly
dropped it onto another app on the incorrect page and iOS automatically
created a new folder which I think it named using the tagged category of the
app I was moving and now I have 2 apps in this unwanted folder. First, if
there is a better way to move an app than double tapping and holding
followed by dragging and releasing to the desired location, I'd love to hear
about it. When I attempted this, Voiceover gave me no feedback on which page
I was on. As I only had one location to which I was attempting to move the
app, not knowing the page I was on sort of made the move operation doomed to
failure. I have 14 pages of apps and all pages are full except for the last
one.

I need to confirm the best method to remove the moved app from the unwanted
folder which I'm hoping will simultaneously delete the folder when it's left
with only one app in it. I expect I'll have to open the folder, place focus
on the app I wish to move, single finger swipe down to start edit mode then
double tap and hold the app to move followed by dragging it to the desired
location. As I mentioned previously, I'd love to be able to tell iOS on what
page to place this moved app but I think I'll only have the option to drag
and drop it. Any guidance on the best approach will be greatly appreciated
as I'm not expecting my next attempt to drag and drop to go much better.

After the unwanted folder only has one app remaining in it, will I also need
to drag and drop that app somewhere using the procedures just described in
order for the folder to disappear?

Thanks in advance for any assistance. I know this has been discussed ad
infinitum here but as I don't use folders, I've not paid attention to those
posts.

video magnification apps

2019-04-09 Thread R Van Lant
I have a SenseView hand held video magnifier. A few years ago I tried a couple
phone apps for magnification, but could not figure any out. I was listening to
a couple Blind Bargains podcasts from CSUN talking about products that work
with an iPad and claim to be a terrific video magnifier system, but the price
tags were two to three thousand dollars. Am I missing something? I'm not
shelling out that kind of money and even only got the SenseView because it was
a close out of a demo model. I don't need magnification as much as the
ability to reverse color schemes to light print on a dark background. Anything
out there worth considering or do I just stick with OCR? Probably the main
reason I use a video magnifier is when the formatting is not conducive to OCr,
such as in a cookbook, or the back of a box where I'm trying to find a recipe.

Siri shortcuts on HomePod

2019-04-09 Thread 'Harry Bell' via VIPhone
I’m using an iPhone XS and have Siri Shrtcuts set up to play various radio
stations using the Receiver Radio app. I can issue the Shortcut command and
Siri on my HomePod will hear and obey. All very cool. But if I then pick up my
iPhone and start using other apps, including the Withings HealthMate app, the
HomePod stops working, the radio stream stops. Also, if I go upstairs, when I
come back down, the radio stream has stopped. Does a Siri Shortcut on the
HomePod rely on the proximity of the iPhone and its exclusive attention in
order to function?
Cheers
Harry
