creating a Siri shortcut

2019-07-02 Thread Wayne Scott

Is there a way tSiri shortcut a way to create a Siri shortcut for turning
"Type to Siri" on and off without always having to go into settings? I use an
iPhone 8 with the latest IOS software, VoiceOver, and a Focus 14 blue braille

RE: Any Word about New Phones?

2019-07-02 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
If you are talking about 5G then I assume we may hear something about that in
September from Apple. I don't follow Google and Samsung and so on very much so
don't know. When it comes to iPhones we may hear rumours soon, but Apple never
talks about hardware before September. Anyways, while 5G may be rolled out in a
few test markets we won't see wide-spread availability for at least another
year or two. Who knows how much the current elimination of Huawei will delay it
if only other companies like Nokia, Ericsson, Qualcomm etc. Below is one of
many good articles you can find if you Google variations of "major providers of
5G infrastructure" or "5G deployment around the world":

Problems and Prospects for 5G Deployment in the United
States

Keep in mind that Apple and Qualcomm, one of the leading makers of wireless
hardware such as what is used in computers and cell phones don’t have an
exactly friendly relationship right now and unless Apple ups their game and
they develop such hardware themselves I could see the iPhone being slow to
catch on to 5G. But as I said, probably not anything we have to worry about
this year and probably not even next year.

Sieghard

They both work great on my SE.
I'm not sure why some people cannot hear the tones in Voice Dream Scanner,
maybe it is the pitch, or the volume is not high enough, but Voice Dream
Scanner does not need as much height as some apps.
Both apps work fine even in poor lighting.
With Voice OCR, if you gave it permission to use the microphone, you should be
able to say, "capture, and have it take the photo, and then say "read" and have
it recognize the text and read it to you.
Both apps have a button to double tap and if you have the phone roughly as far
above the item, as the item is tall, they should work. Though, as I said, Voice
Dream Scanner can be a little lower.
Perhaps get sighted assistance and have someone say when the document is in the
camera view, until you can get the hang of it.

Although I have listened to demos and followed instructions on getting both

Have others using the SE had luck with using these scanners, and if so, any

hi,

what is the point of tabs then if you can have only one open at a time? i
thought it was like having several sessions of word open with different
documents open so i could have one tab for Google etc and another tab for
listening to a program for example from a website. at the moment i start
listening to some thing on a website which maybe 1.5 hours long, half way
through i might need to look at some thing else but if i move away from that
website i lose my place in the recording and this recording is so annoying in
that you can only move forward by 30 seconds at a time. so is there no way i
can have 2 sites open in safari at the same time?

To switch tabs, double tap on the tab at the bottom right corner, and you can
then pick the one you want to switch to.
You can only have one open at a time, but you can have hundreds of tabs
available.
You should be able to close them by double tapping and holding, and when you
hear the tone, you will have a choice to close it.
Or, if you want a clean start, double tap and hold on the tab button in the
lower right, and after the tones you should find a close all button.

I've never found this kind of facility on my iOs devices, and presumed getting
the text out of the native mailer was the issue under
scrutiny.

My inclination would be like - reply, scroll into existing content and use
edit rotor to mark and copy, then suspend that and move
to msg app, and use paste. If pasted content is too big, it'll split it into
several msgs. You can go back to mailer to cancel the
reply or forward or whatever you used to get into an edit field of the content.

I can and do this in Windows and iOs.

John,

I have no idea which e-mail client you are using; but even so, all such
programs I’ve ever used provide a “Save As” option in the
FILE Menus.

In fact, I’m using the native Mac-OS e-mail client to read your message and
opened the menu, selected FILE and arrowed down to the
“Save As” option. A dialog appears and one of the controls is a Pop-Up to let
you choose the format of the saved file.

as I said above, all e-mail clients I’ve ever used (Windows, Unix, Mac-OS)
provide this option.

Richard

Good Morning,

Although I have listened to demos and followed instructions on getting both of
these scanners to work on my phone, neither work well. I'm a relatively
intelligent person, I think anyway, so I'm wondering if part of the issue
couldn't be with my phone. I am updated to the latest IOS, but using an SE
phone. All of the podcasts and advice I have received has been from people
using much newer phones.

Have others using the SE had luck with using these scanners, and if so, any
advice?

Thanks.

Hi everyone.

I presented your questions to my friends at Right Hear.
As Siegert said, the recording and labelling of places works when you
get a GPS accuracy of under eight meters, which means it works best
outside, in the Outdoors mode of the app. This can be useful when you
learn a new route and need to label certain spots. You can record any
text you wish, such as info about intersections you need to cross, the
locations of bus stops, etc.

At the moment, the app works with a specific type of beacon, so it is
best to purchase such beacons through the company. My friend told me a
few beterans in the States have already done this to lable spots in
their own house or workplace. There is a plan to offer support for
more kinds of beacons in the near future, so it is just a matter of
time.
When you purchase beacons, you work through a website to enter the
info you want and they are working all the time to make sure this part
of the website is accessible as well.

In a couple of weeks, they are going to have a few webinars of
questions and answers. I will post the dates and links as soon as I
can. And as I have said before, they love hearing suggestions and
getting feedback. From day one they have had the user's experience in
first priority and that's why I love working with them.

Cheers,
Tali

The record button is right there (no pun intended) on the main screen.
All you have to do is to double tap on it to record a location. Keep in

that this only works if your GPS accuracy is at least 8 metres or better,
but it will tell you if it is not.
You can later on double tap and hold the recordings button if you want to
see a list of your recordings/locations.
Looks like this app uses information from Open Street maps which
unfortunately often can be quite outdated. For example, it shows the
???Hill

has been closed for about 3 years.
Considering this is a free app which allows for turn by turn navigation

this is a nice app to have for people who don???t want to pay for Seeing

John,

If you do not have text selection on your rotor, go to the VoiceOver settings,
rotor, and select it.

Then, get VoiceOver to the beginning of what you want to copy and turn the
rotor to text selection.

If you want everything, flick up or down until you get to select all, then
flick right with one finger.

Pause a moment and it will read everything it selected. Once it starts reading,
if you do not want to listen to it all, go ahead and turn the rotor to edit.

Flick up or down to copy, and double tap.

Then, open your text message, and turn to edit again and flick up or down to
paste and double tap.

You'll be all set.

Richard

This app is being developed by a 15yr old. The app is suppose to be accessible

there is a tutorial & an email to write the developer. He is enthusiastic to
help this app be voiceover accessible. I suggest writing the developer. Maybe
he can help.

They both work great on my SE.
I'm not sure why some people cannot hear the tones in Voice Dream Scanner,
maybe it is the pitch, or the volume is not high enough, but Voice Dream
Scanner does not need as much height as some apps.
Both apps work fine even in poor lighting.
With Voice OCR, if you gave it permission to use the microphone, you should
be able to say, "capture, and have it take the photo, and then say "read" and
have it recognize the text and read it to you.
Both apps have a button to double tap and if you have the phone roughly as
far above the item, as the item is tall, they should work. Though, as I said,
Voice Dream Scanner can be a little lower.
Perhaps get sighted assistance and have someone say when the document is in
the camera view, until you can get the hang of it.

  Good Morning,

Although I have listened to demos and followed instructions on getting
both of these scanners to work on my phone, neither work well. I'm a relatively
intelligent person, I think anyway, so I'm wondering if part of the issue
couldn't be with my phone. I am updated to the latest IOS, but using an SE

using much newer phones.

Have others using the SE had luck with using these scanners, and if so,
any advice?

  Thanks.

They both work great on my SE.
I'm not sure why some people cannot hear the tones in Voice Dream
Scanner, maybe it is the pitch, or the volume is not high enough, but Voice
Dream Scanner does not need as much height as some apps.
Both apps work fine even in poor lighting.
With Voice OCR, if you gave it permission to use the microphone, you
should be able to say, "capture, and have it take the photo, and then say
"read" and have it recognize the text and read it to you.
Both apps have a button to double tap and if you have the phone roughly
as far above the item, as the item is tall, they should work. Though, as I
said, Voice Dream Scanner can be a little lower.
Perhaps get sighted assistance and have someone say when the document is
in the camera view, until you can get the hang of it.

Dear Richard,
I went into settings for Voice OCR and the microphone camera are on. However it
says photos set to never and when I DT to try to change the option I can't.
There is an option next to it which says "read and write". I tried to DT that
hoping that it would deactivate the "never" choice. Thank you for your
assistance. I usually don't have this much difficulty, LOL!

Re: Converting an email into a text message

2019-07-02 Thread Richard Turner

John,
If you do not have text selection on your rotor, go to the VoiceOver settings,
rotor, and select it.
Richard

Re: Any Good Journaling or Diary Apps, Anyone?

2019-07-02 Thread Gerardo Corripio
The app I’ve been using since the end of November, after having used the I
think it was called 1 Day app for several months, which I found too cluttered
and confusing! This app though, the Personal Diary app, is intuitive to use,
and very simple!

Dream scanner on an SE

2019-07-02 Thread Ann Byrne

Hi, Vicki,

I use Voice Dream Scanner on an SE. It is amazing! Remember to have
the phone far enough from the object you are scanning so that it can
see the entire document. Document on the table. elbows on the
table. Hands holding the phone above the table, however long the
distance between your elbows and your hands (LOL). Good lighting.

Good luck!

Re: Converting an email into a text message

2019-07-02 Thread 'Bill Gallik' via VIPhone
 John,

I have no idea which e-mail client you are using; but even so, all such
programs I’ve ever used provide a “Save As” option in the FILE Menus.

In fact, I’m using the native Mac-OS e-mail client to read your message and
opened the menu, selected FILE and arrowed down to the “Save As” option. A
dialog appears and one of the controls is a Pop-Up to let you choose the format
of the saved file.

as I said above, all e-mail clients I’ve ever used (Windows, Unix, Mac-OS)
provide this option.

Hi John,

You don't tell us what you are using for your email. I use Eudora, and if I
want to create a text file, I go to File and Save, and the contents of the
email are saved to a text file which I can then send as an attachment. If you
are using a web-based email application, my advice may mean nothing.
