RE: Anyone who uses hearing aids, please read

2019-07-31 Thread Tony
Out of close to a dozen audiologists I have worked with only one really took
the time to insure I had good aids. He worked for the VA and kept up with the
news releases for various companies. He also talked with company engineers on
a regular basis. He took the time to explain why a particular aid was best for
me and replaced my aids early if a significant improvement had been made.
Unfortunately he retired. And his replacement, who was nearly as good, also
retired shortly later. I have audiologist tell me I don’t need features that
would help me. One questioned the amount of support equipment I had and didn’t
believe me when I told her it wears out in months. When I told her she had
programmed my aids incorrectly, she walked out of the room without saying
anything.

I have a pair of Resound aids that are great for some things especially working
with the computer. I also have an old pair of Phonak aids that work better in
some situations. I usually wear one of each. I have the computer work through
the Resound and the phone through the Phonak.

I have never tried the Resound app. Too many people do not consider multiple
handicaps.

VoiceOver expected behaviors

2019-07-31 Thread Donald Raikes
Hello,

I need the help of this incredible group.
I have been tasked with preparing a short training class on how to use
VoiceOver on Ios to validate the accessibility of web pages for my
company's developers and qa engineers.

Actually I have to do the same kind of class for using JAWS as well.

The further I get into this process the more confused/concerned I get.

I have only been using VoiceOver on safari for about 4 months, but VO
doesn't behave the way I would expect, so I am hoping to get an
overall concensus on what is expected by the typical VO user.

1. The current situation I am wrestling with is a page with a set of
radio buttons on it.
http://donraikes.github.io/htmlex/radiogroup

The page was created with a form containing a fieldset with a legend
to provide the group label, then three radio buttons (for those who
want to know the nitty gritty details).

When flicking right through the page, VoiceOver announces the label
for the radio group then the next flick announces the first radio
button.
If I go past the radio group then left flick back to the radio
buttons, VoiceOver doesn't read the group label until after going
through all the buttons, so how am I to know what these buttons
refference?
Also if I use the rotor and list the form controls as I flick down
through the list all I get is the button names with no context as to
what they refference again.

Just to make it clear, I am having similar issues with JAWS and how it
should behave, so I am trying to get a wider perspective than what I
expect :-)

Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Donald

Hi Steve,

If you are still within your trial period, I would seriously look at
the Oticon brand. Another helpful resource may be the state agency
that serves blind and visually impaired people in your state. Even
though you may not be eligible for services, you may be able to find
out whether there is a specific audiologist in your area that has
worked with individuals with both a vision and hearing loss. Having an
audiologist that understands the unique issues blind hearing aid users
experience is invalualbe when selecting the right pair of hearing aids
and the subsequent programming of the aids.

Best,

Lynda

Re: Anyone who uses hearing aids, please read

2019-07-31 Thread Steve Matzura
So, how many of you who use or are considering the ReSound brand have
used that contact link I posted a few times already? The bad news is,
ReSound is not an American company, so there's no compulsion for them to
be interested in accessibility. Since that appears to be the case, I'm
voting with my feet, as they say, and attempting to find another brand.
If I have to find another audiologist to do that, I will.

iOs mailers

2019-07-31 Thread 'RobH.' via VIPhone
hi, looking for iOs mailers with more options of how to handle content left on
server. Accounts originally setup as POP3 and the
messages are backing up on the server to an unwieldly amount.

Suggest best setting within the one we have in case we missed the obvious.

Many thanks, RobH.

Re: TwitTerrific Questions?

2019-07-31 Thread Ed Worrell
Hello Fuzzel,

Yes the side bar is the main menu. Sorry that I didn’t make that clearer in my
description. My bad.

Peter, In the iOS 13 beta if you do a one finger double tap it will stop the
video and it’s audio that is playing. I will see if I can get the developer to
make the proper correction and give the two finger double tap back in a future
update.
