Re: Fantassy Football

2019-08-28 Thread Andy Baracco
The web site is not nearly as accessible as the app. It may be doable
depending on your patience and skill with working with difficult web pages.
A blind iPhone user worked long and hard with Yahoo to make the IOS version
almost completely accessible.

Hi,

Little off topic but is yahoo fantasy football accessible on desktop?

It is still around, but it is full, and we have already had our draft.
However, Yahoo Fantasy Sports is very accessible on the iphone, and you
may
still be able to sign up with a public league. last season I wanted to
do
fantasy basketball and couldn't find anyone who wanted to do it with me,
so
I joined a public league on Yahoo, and had a wonderful time with no
issues.

As I said the Yahoo Fantasy app is almost completely accessible. Try it!

if this question has been addressed previously.

A few years back, someone had a fantassy football league for Voiceover
users. I am wondering if that league is on for this year. Thanks. Regards

Second and third attempts did nothing.
Best of luck.

Re: Apple apologizes for Siri audio recordings, announces privacy changes going forward, The Verge

2019-08-28 Thread Ed Worrell
I understand that this went against Apple’s stance on privacy and that’s why
all of the buzz on the topic.

I personally don’t actually care if a person hears me tell Siri to shut up when
it is acsidently triggered on my HomePod. Also I wasn’t surprised to hear that
humans were behind the speaker system/service grading requests and responses.
Sometimes the human interaction is needed. AI isn’t actually all that smart.
Humans create the software and put the limitations on it so it can’t become too
smart. Nobody’s actual name, contact info, etc was given to the contractors.

My advice is to relax and control the things you can control.

If you don’t want a smart speaker don’t get one.

Apple apologizes for Siri audio recordings, announces privacy changes going forward, The Verge

2019-08-28 Thread M. Taylor
Apple apologizes for Siri audio recordings, announces privacy changes going
forward
By Chaim Gartenberg, Aug 28, 2019, 11:07am EDT

Apple has issued a formal apology for its privacy practices of secretly
having human contractors listen to recordings of customers talking to its
Siri digital assistant to improve the service. "We realize we haven't been
fully living up to our high ideals, and for that we apologize," Apple's
statement reads.
The company also announced several changes to Siri's privacy policy:
First, by default, we will no longer retain audio recordings of Siri
interactions. We will continue to use computer-generated transcripts to help
Siri improve.
Second, users will be able to opt in to help Siri improve by learning from
the audio samples of their requests. We hope that many people will choose to
help Siri get better, knowing that Apple respects their data and has strong
privacy controls in place. Those who choose to participate will be able to
opt out at any time.
Third, when customers opt in, only Apple employees will be allowed to listen
to audio samples of the Siri interactions. Our team will work to delete any
recording which is determined to be an inadvertent trigger of Siri.

Apple was one of several major tech companies - including Google, Amazon,
Facebook, and Microsoft - that was caught using paid human contractors to
review recordings from its digital assistant, a fact that wasn't made clear
to customers. According to The Guardian's report, those contractors had
access to recordings that were full of private details, often due to
accidental Siri triggers, and workers were said to each be listening to up
to 1,000 recording a day.
In the aftermath of that report, Apple announced that it would suspend the
grading program that would see those recordings reviewed. "We are committed
to delivering a great Siri experience while protecting user privacy," an
Apple spokesperson said in a statement to The Verge at the time.
Previously, Apple policy would keep random recordings from Siri for up to
six months, after which it would remove identifying information for a copy
that it would keep for two years or more.
Per today's announcement, both the non-optional recording and the subsequent
grading policies are now being suspended for good. Apple says it will no
longer keep audio recordings from Siri unless a user specifically opts in.
And in cases where customers do choose to give Apple their data, only Apple
employees will have access (not, it would seem to imply, hired contractors).
The company additionally promises that it will work to delete recordings of
accidental triggers, which The Guardian's report claims were the main source
of sensitive information.
According to Apple's statement, the company plans to resume grading Siri
recordings under those new policies later this fall, following a software
update that adds the new opt-in option to its devices.

If you mean from your desktop, then you have lots of options ... but there
are also many platforms (for a mac, for example, audio hijack is very
flexible and can record from any source). Many of the conference call
systems offer such a feature. I avoid windows as much as possible, so I
can't recommend a particular Windows calling app.

If you mean from your cellphone, it's harder on an iphone (tight security,
so recording apps can't access the microphone and speaker when you've got a
call going. If you've had the meeting call you via GoogleVoice, you can use
the GV record a call facility. tapeacall is popular, I've never used it.
https://www.howtogeek.com/313366/how-to-record-a-phone-call-on-an-iphone/
may be helpful.

Note that whether it is Legal to record a call depends on what state you
AND your audience members are in. When in doubt, announce the recording and
gain consent (or terminate the recording) from all parties (unless you are
certain they are all in a one party recording state).

Re: How to extend Apple Watch battery life while traveling, 9 to 5 Mac

2019-08-28 Thread Ed Worrell
Nothing against you Mark but this seems like more of a plug for portable
battery chargers then it does an article about optimizing your Apple Watch
battery. Here’s what I do…
1. Turn off background app refresh for all apps that don’t need it.
Settings/general/background app refresh.
2. If running VO simply turn on the screen curtain, this will save a ton of
battery.
3. As cool as the info graph and modular info graph watch faces are use
different ones. These two will drain your battery as they are allowed to
refresh the complications more frequently.
4. Limit the notifications being pushed to the watch. Heck this goes for the
valuable battery on your iPhone as well. Turn off any notifications that aren’t
crucial to travel or daily life.
5. If you are a low vision user you can turn on grey scale in accessibility.
Grey, black and white colors )These are not actually colors they are shades)
are easier to draw than bright colors.

This is just some more food for thought…

Other than Zoom Meeting, the only ones I’ve heard about use some kind of cloud
based third party system, which I’ve never looked into.

I suspect you have to have a paid account with Zoom and of course, the others
have to be connected to through the Zoom Meeting.

Every now and then I am in a phone conference call and it would be helpful to
be able to record the meeting. Can anyone suggest an app to accomplish this?

Recorder HQ Question

2019-08-28 Thread Karen Poulakos
Hi All,

I used Recorder HQ to record a lesson on some music I am learning. I
noticed that this app will allow me to edit the content of the music file,
but I'm unsure how to do it.

There is a section in the middle of the piece that I would like to focus on,
and would like to create a separate file of that portion of the music.
Could someone more experienced than I, give me step by step instructions as
to how to accomplish this.

I don't want to mess up my original recording.

Thanks.
