RE: Slide keyboard and Apple Pay and Apple ID charging

2019-09-23 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
The slide keyboard if enabled is just there, all you do to use it is to find
the first letter of the word you want to type, let your finger rest on that
letter for a second or maybe just less (you can adjust how long you want this
to be in settings somewhere) and when you hear the little tone you start
sliding to all the letters of the word you want to type. It's important that
you slide your finger approx.. to the position of the letter and never to lift
your finger until you are done or you hear Voiceover speak the word you want,
then lift to insert the word, find the starting letter of the next word and
repeat by waiting a moment, then sliding. There is no need to insert a manual
space, it does it for you. It works somewhat similar to Flicktype except that
instead of tapping the screen in the pattern of the word you start with the
definite first letter and then slide. It works remarkably well and I think if
somebody really practiced this and by "really" I mean hours and hours of
practice, that person could learn to type super fast with this. I think the
predictions are better than in Flicktype, I did words like "Netatmo" and it
actually got it right the first time.
This will be a feature you either love or hate, there will be many who won't
get it and many who don't want to spend the time practicing, but I think this
is like playing an instrument, you may know how to tap out a simple tune on a
piano, but it takes hundreds and thousands of hours of dedicated practicing to
be really good at it.

Best regards,
Sieghard

I am not sure about your first question, but I do know that the card you have
set up for your Apple ID is separate from Apple pay. You have to set up Apple
pay separately to be used with your passcode and touch ID.

Your card that is in Apple ID will be used for apps and monthly charges that
you have authorized.

All my settings, ugh no way, really. That means every app would reset. That
would be a lot of apps. That would erase my email links, not sure what else. I
don't often set things inthe settings app buts there isifi and everything else
there. Is this going to be fixed inthe update?

So it turns out you have to run a shortcut or two to get the allow untrusted
shortcuts switch to appear in the settings app.

Re: a pill reminder app question

2019-09-23 Thread Donna
Hi Vicki,

Below is an alarm reminder app that I really like. My favorite feature is that
I can customize when & how often I need reminding I also like that if I happen
to be busy doing something when I receive the alert reminder, I can set me a
nag me feature & I will be reminded again in a selected period of time,
minutes, hours, days, until the task has been marked completed.

The Alarmed app is 100% accessible with voiceover. All buttons are clearly
marked & the interface is very easy to navigate & use..

Slide keyboard and Apple Pay and Apple ID charging

2019-09-23 Thread regina alvarado
Hi, two questions. First, I have slide keyboard set in settings, general,
keyboards. How do I bring it up when I want to use it? I saw I could put it in
rotor. Is that the only way to bring it up?

Second, I have my card in the apple ID. I do not want wallet or apple pay. Does
my card in apple ID have anything to do with apple pay? If it is correct in
apple ID it will continue to charge the things like apple music etc. Even if
apple pay is not used? Thanks for any help with these two things.

RE: VoiceDream and the Rotor

2019-09-23 Thread Cristobal Muñoz
Probably, but all I'm saying is that I at least don't find it to be all that
disruptive or that it suddenly makes things less efficient.
Anyway, looks like there was another update today in fact and the rotor actions
still appear to be gone. So who knows.

Hi,
I updated to voice dream reader version 4.9.1. I am using iPhone with iOS 13I
am using iPhone with iOS 13 and do not have the issues you are detailing. What
I suggest you do, is to ensure your voice to meter content is backed up to
iCloud and delete then re-download Voice dream reader. I have seen this issue
in the past before this version of voice dream reader and with iOS 12.
Reinstalling it fixed the issue.

I noticed it too. Can't say it makes it less efficient to use though. I mean,
it's just a quick button tap to edit/delete like lots of other apps do to edit
items.
I've more than once accidentally deleted something in apps when tapping and
swiping and flicking real fast so for me, it's not that big a deal that this
rotor action thing is gone.

I just updated to VoiceDream 4.9.1. I am still using iOS 11.4.1 and will
hopefully update to iOS 13.1.

When I updated, I notice that now in the list view of books there is no action
item in the rotor. So, I cannot turn the rotor and get options for deleting,
moving, or interacting with the book in question. The only way to do it is to
click "edit" and the select the book and get to the menu from there. I have
already let the developers know about this. Was this an intentional change? it
makes the app much less efficient to use.

That is my point--swiping up/down does not cycle through actions
anymore, it just moves by character (or whatever you have the rotor

To delete a book, just swipe up with one finger until you get to delete. I
didn’t realize there had been any changes. Guess I never have use the rotor for
anything.

Re: Checking out the Braille input option

2019-09-23 Thread Sandy Finley
Danny,

I love Braille Screen Input. Swiping left and right with three fingers (while
you have the phone in landscape mode for BSI) goes to Contracted Braille and
what Apple calls Six Dot Braile respectively. In addition to the AppleVis guide
referred to by Richard, a list of commands can be found by going to :
1. Settings,
2. Acccessibility,
3. VoiceOver
4. Commands,
5. Braille Screen Input.
This is if you have updated to iOS 13.

Your

VoiceDream and the Rotor

2019-09-23 Thread Kelby Carlson
I just updated to VoiceDream 4.9.1. I am still using iOS 11.4.1 and
will hopefully update to iOS 13.1.

When I updated, I notice that now in the list view of books there is
no action item in the rotor. So, I cannot turn the rotor and get
options for deleting, moving, or interacting with the book in
question. The only way to do it is to click "edit" and the select the
book and get to the menu from there. I have already let the developers
know about this. Was this an intentional change? it makes the app much
less efficient to use.

Re: Phone Keypad Changes

2019-09-23 Thread Malcolm Parfitt
Hello,

It sounds like you have inadvertently set typing Feedback to none.

If you have Typeing Feedback as an option in your Rotor then navigate to it and
flick up to change ‘this to another setting and see if that has the desired
effect.

RE: Exercise equipment and GymKit

2019-09-23 Thread Cristobal Muñoz
Another piece of equipment I was checking out was the Concept2 rower. It comes
in two models. D and E. I think the only difference is that the E version sits
up higher at 20 inches instead of the 14 inches on the D and some other small
upgrades for a $200 bump.

My understanding is that they both come with an adaptor to monitor your
performance that can sync to Bluetooth devices and where you can export your
workout data.

>From the looks of it, the Concept line always gets top billing for best home
>rowers out there without going into the more pricey models that can run
>upwards of $3000 plus.

I believe I even came across an AppleVis forum where someone asked about
accessible rowers and someone mentioned that the wireless adaptor concept2
thing is completely accessible.

In general though, I think the most we as blind end users are going to get is
the ability to access our workout info after the workout. I don’t think I’ve
come across anything that somehow allows to monitor a workout on any of these
machines in real time or the ability to navigate the menus for different
programs or profiles and such.

My Nautilus for example can have four different profiles. Weight, height,
goals, etc. All that sort of stuff though is inaccessible to me. My wife had to
input all that in and basically, my profile is the default and whenever she
jumps on it, she just switches over to hers and back to mine when she’s done.

My Schwinn recumbent bike is touch screen. I just marked it up for the basics.,
Resistance, time, etc for when I just want to do a manual workout, but I still
use my wife’s eyeballs if I want to do a preset program. Easy enough if she’s
around or if she’s not home or whatever, we just facetime and she guides me
through the options.

Since it’s an older model, what I’ll sometimes do is set a timer on my iPhone 1
or 2 minutes before the program is set to end and facetime her so she can read
me my statistics at the end.

I know not everyone’s got a pare of live-in or willing eyeballs, but for the
bike at least, this inelegant solution has more or less worked for me so far.

Thanks, Cristobal and Dan, I have heard about these subscription based workout
gadgets and that part doesn’t interest me at all, but it would be nice to have
access to some of the information GymKit measures, I’ll continue to look into
this a bit, as I said, I wouldn’t mind finding something, but if it takes
another year and maybe by then GymKit makes its way into the home fitness
equipment market that’s OK, too, I have a feeling Apple didn’t create this only
for professional gyms.

The only bluetooth enabled piece of workout equipment I currently own is my
Nautilus 618 treadmill. Mainly to sync my workouts with the Nautilus app and
Apple health. As far as actually manipulating the treadmill via my phone… It’s
still the various buttons on the machine itself.

I’ve got a Schwinn recumbent bike that I’ve had for going on 12 years and while
I’ve looked into some stationary bike upgrades with Bluetooth, I can’t say
there’s really been anything that’s jumped out at me. I’ll probably ride that
bad boy until it gives up the ghost.

I mean, there’s the Peloton line of equipment, but accessibility aside, it also
comes with a premium price tag as well as a monthly subscription.

Hi,

My wife and I may be in the market for some sort of home gym equipment, most
likely a stationary bike to start with.

I am not in a big hurry with this and just thought I start checking into this

One quick Google search brought up an apple Insider article about GymKit which

Re: Phone Keypad Changes

2019-09-23 Thread Richard Turner
Firstly, there is no such phone as a 5 SE.
The SE has no number, but if it did it would have been probably 6 since it came
out after the 6s.
It confuses the issue to refer to the SE as a 5 SE, since then people cannot be
sure if you have a 5s, or an SE.
Assuming it is the SE, do you use touch typing, or do you have to double tap on
a number to enter it to make a call or dealing with a menu?
I use touch typing, so when I touch a number, it is spoken, then when I lift my
finger it is spoken again and entered.
The second time, the speech is a little higher pitch.
It works for me the same on menus or when first entering the number to call.
At least I think it does.
I have not had to deal with the press a number for places I call regularly
because I have programmed the sequence into the phone number.

Thanks for clearing up the mis-understanding.

I originally thought last night's episode would be pay only, cause when I

RE: Exercise equipment and GymKit

2019-09-23 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

I am not in a big hurry with this and just thought I start checking into this
and what works or does not work with the Apple ecosystem since we both have
iPhones and Apple Watches, our new series 5 watches have shipped and I would
certainly give priority to any equipment which supports this as long as it is
also of good quality.
One quick Google search brought up an apple Insider article about GymKit which
was released 2 years ago, but while about 6 or 8 manufacturers are listed, the
article also says that this for now is only available in professional equipment
and is not available in home equipment. They mentioned one piece, can’t
remember if it was a stationary bike or Stairmaster, but they said something
about it costing $14,000 which is certainly beyond the budget of any normal
home user. Maybe if you are a multi-millionaire and you can afford a home with
a one or two thousand square foot home gym you could also afford to stock it
with equipment of that nature, but while I am prepared to pay a premium for a
premium piece of equipment which we would have for the next 10 or 15 years
there are limits.

Best regards,
Sieghard

Subject: About Optimize Battery Charging

Hi all,
Earlier this month, this topic was discussed. Below is information on optimize
battery charging from Apple.

With iOS 13, your iPhone learns from your daily charging habits to improve the
lifespan of your battery.

A battery’s lifespan is related to its chemical age, which is more than just
the length of time since the battery was assembled. A battery's chemical age
results from a complex combination of several factors, including temperature
history and charging pattern. All rechargeable batteries are consumable
components that become less effective as they chemically age. As lithium-ion
batteries chemically age, the amount of charge they can hold diminishes,
resulting in reduced battery life and reduced peak performance. Learn more
about iPhone battery and performance and
how to maximize battery performance and
lifespan.

iOS 13 uses Optimized Battery Charging to slow the rate of battery aging by
reducing the time that your iPhone spends fully charged. Your iPhone uses
on-device machine learning to understand your daily charging routine so that it
can wait until you need to use your iPhone to finish charging past 80 percent.*
Charging in this way reduces the wear on your battery and improves its
lifespan. Optimized Battery Charging is active only when your iPhone predicts
that it will be connected to a charger for a long period of time.

Optimized Battery charging is on by default when you set up your iPhone or
after updating to iOS 13. If you notice that your iPhone is often only
partially charged—for example, if you don’t charge your iPhone overnight—you
can go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health and turn off Optimized Battery
Charging.

When optimized battery charging is active, a notification on the Lock screen
says when your iPhone will be fully charged. If you need to have your iPhone
fully charged sooner, touch and hold the notification and then tap Charge Now.

* Information regarding your charging routin

So because I can't use Pocket, I downloaded Instapaper. While I'm not
having an issue with the share extension, nothing I share to
Instapaper actually shows up in the app. It just says "in progress"
and "loading" forever, even with a decent wi-fi connection. I'd like
to update to iOS 13, but the vast amount of bugs doesn't seem to make
it worth it and it doesn't sound as if iOS 13 will fix many of them.

Re: country music dvds on PBS

2019-09-23 Thread Arlene
Wayne does the recording so this is how he does it. We do it with a cable,
using the headphone jack on the ipad, and depending on the soundcard in your
computer, you'll either have to make a cable or get a new cable ready to use to
go into the soundcard on your computer. For example using one of the computers
we have here, the computer being used has a m audio soundcard. This particular
soundcard inputs and out puts are r c a phono jacks, and of course the ipad is
a standard 3.5 jack. It's just simple hooking the cable from the ipad to the
soundcard. We're using soundforge withaudio input enabled, this is so I could
hear it as it's being recorded. It's not totally necessary if you don't have
this feature because there's many other ways to do this. If you have more
questions just ask.

Arlene, maybe that won’t be your last message and the subject. I’ve got one
question for you. How do you record from the iPhone or iPad to your computer?
Also I guess what computer are you using? That might make a difference. Thank
you.

I may have to just reset my phone to factory default at some point; there are a
number of very strange issues that have cropped up that haven't gone away no
matter what I've done.

Pocket does show up in Newsify, but not Safari. I installed Instapaper and that
did show up in Safari. So I assume it must be a Pocket issue.
