It drives me up the wall when notifications keep reading when I am not even
doing anything with the phone.

And what if you are not near your phone for a few minutes? I usually am, but
sometimes I might be typing an e-mail on my computer and I have to stop to go
dismiss a notification because it's annoying me. That's when it gets
irritating. Fortunately, I always turn on do not disturb at night, or it would
probably wake me up doing that kind of thing.

Re: the latest version of IOS 13 and battery drain

In the beginning mine did not drain any faster, but I've noticed this
week that it has been draining a little faster. Last night when I was
asleep I saw battery use of two percent per hour. So not sure what's
going on with that.

Reminders: Complete Guide to iOS 13, MacRumors

2019-12-18 Thread M. Taylor
Reminders: Complete Guide to iOS 13

The Reminders app has never been one of the most popular built-in apps,
mostly due to its limited functionality in comparison with other reminder
and to-do apps available from the App Store.

In iOS 13, Apple overhauled the interface of the Reminders app, adding a new
look and new capabilities that may encourage more people to check it out. In
this guide, we'll go over all of the new features in the Reminders app and
what it can do in iOS 13 and iPadOS.

Design
Reminders in iOS 12 and earlier offered a simple no-frills list-style view
that organized items by list, but iOS 13 has an entirely new interface
that's more intuitive. There are four main Reminders sections, which
incorporate all of your reminders across all of your lists so you can see
everything that you need to do in one view, whether it's for work or family.

There's a "Today" section for reminders that need to be addressed
immediately, a "Scheduled" section for reminders that have a date attached,
an "All" section for viewing everything all at once, and a "Flagged" section
for your reminders that have a flag added to separate them out.

Along with the four main sections where you can access all of your reminders
organized into different views, you can also see your content organized per
list using the "My Lists" section. You can use Reminders in either dark mode
or light mode, and there are unique looks for both.

Lists and Reminders
As with the previous version of Reminders, you can make as many lists as you
need in the Reminders app. You can have separate lists for family, friends,
work, and whatever other topics you want.

If you want to keep track of all the household chores you need to do along
with your grocery list and your work projects, the Reminders app can handle
that. Adding a list is as simple as tapping on the "Add List" button.

All of your lists are displayed individually in the "My Lists" section,
while the individual reminders in that list are also available in the
different sections of the Reminders app.

Adding a reminder to a list can be done by tapping into a list and then
tapping on the the "New Reminder" button, or by tapping into the Today,
Scheduled, or Flagged categories at the top of the app and then choosing
"New Reminder."

Ultimately, adding, organizing, and accessing lists is a more intuitive in
iOS 13 than it was in iOS 12. Reminders located in the Scheduled tab and the
Today tab are organized by date and time, but there are no manual sorting
tools to allow for different organization.

Customization
The Reminders app in iOS 13 adds new customization options to your Reminders
list. There are additional colors to choose from to color code your lists,
and there are also new icons that you can assign to each list for a visual
cue.

There are all kinds of icons to choose from, including food, sports,
work-related icons, shapes, and more.
. How to Customize the Look of Your Reminders Lists in iOS

Reminders Toolbar
When creating a reminder in the Reminders app in iOS 13, there's a new quick
access toolbar that lets you add times, locations, and more to your
reminders. There are four available icons, each with a different function:
. Clock - Lets you schedule a reminder for today, tomorrow, this
weekend, or a custom date.
. Arrow - Lets you set a reminder to activate when you're arriving
home, getting in the car, getting out of the car, or arriving to any custom
location that you choose.
. Flag - Lets you add a flag to a reminder so it's easier to locate.
. Camera - Allows you to take a photo to add to a reminder, add a
photo from the Photo Library, or scan a document. Adding attachments to
Reminders is new in iOS 13.

Reminders can also be annotated with notes and URLs to provide additional
context, and each reminder can also have subtasks associated with it.
Reminders can also be set to repeat, and you can adjust the priority for
each one, choosing between Low, Medium, High, or None.

Accessing all of the Reminder options can be done when tapping on the
"Custom" option when setting a time or a date for a newly created reminder
or by tapping on the "i" icon on an already existing reminder. Some of these
options were available in iOS 12, but interface is simpler and more
intuitive in iOS 13, making these tools easier to use.

Hi Terri,

When you are doing a workout, you're usually on page 2 of the Workout app.
Flick right with two fingers or use the page indicator at the bottom of the
screen to go to page 1. There's an End button on that screen, as well as a
Pause one and one to start a different kind of workout in case you change types
in the middle.

Another Outlook For iOS Question Pleas.

2019-12-18 Thread janet gross
Hi Everyone,
Since a few updates ago for Outlook iOS I've noticed when I flick up I hear
snooze as an option. Does anyone know what this might mean? I know what the
word snooze means, but I don't know why this is showing as an option in Outlook
for iOS.

Outlook For iOS Question Please.

2019-12-18 Thread janet gross
Hi Everyone,
Can someone please tell me how I can let a sighted friend look at a particular
email on my Xr iPhone? I use Outlook for iOS, and I want a sighted person to
see an email, but when I show my friend the Outlook inbox, they see only maybe
about 5 or 6 emails, in which is not the particular email I want to show them.
Although, VO reads me the particular email and many more. I've looked in the
Outlook for iOS app on my phone, and I don't see anything that would be related
to my issue, and I've also looked in settings, as well as in the display
option, but again, I can't seem to find anyway to have Outlook to show all
messages.
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
Janet

Peace Be With You.

Best,

Anna

Re: notifications repeating

2019-12-18 Thread Wayne Scott
What is that gesture? I can never get the scrub gesture. If you use a braille
display, what is the command for that? I have to always hit back button.

Re: Sliding around the keyboard generates word suggesitons?

2019-12-18 Thread Ed Worrell
Hey Reggie,

Navigate to Settings, Accessibility, VoiceOver, typing and down to the bottom
of the screen to Keyboard interaction time. Double tap on that and you should
be able to increase or decrease the time it takes for the interaction to occur.

I hope this helps.

 Hi all,

I'm sorry for just springing out of nowhere with five million questions,
but this luddite is trying to get in with the new, it's hard to teach an
 old dog new tricks, etc.

I use touch-typing, and have voiceover sounds enabled. I also have
predictive text disabled, but have enabled auto-correct. When I am typing,
if I linger on one letter for a split second too long, or if I slide my
finger around the keyboard to get to the letter I'm looking for, I'll hear
a tri-tone sort of sound and then, if I keep sliding around, I hear
various words being suggested. This was not my experience with ios 12 and
my iPhone 8, and I'm not sure what gives.
Any thoughts or suggestions? It has certainly made typing so much more
 cumbersome.
Thanks so much, and again, sorry for the thousand posts.

Thanks Wayne. Right after I posted that note, I went into music under settings

Re: Controling volume in downloaded music

2019-12-18 Thread Wayne Merritt
I have Sound Check turned on, and it helps, but I still notice some
variation in song volumes. Though it is not as much as when Sound
Check was turned off.

Yes, but many of us use Bluetooth speakers or headphones and maybe very far
from the phone and unable to return to it for quite some time. Such as while in
 the bathtub, when eating etc.

RE: Sliding around the keyboard generates word suggesitons?

2019-12-18 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I do exactly what Ed apparently does, I set it to 1 second which isn't long
enough to be bothersome when I want to use it but typically long enough so you
don't invoke it accidently too often. It works really well, but once again I
agree that I find it more useful for longer words, 3 or 4 letter words often I
can type just as fast.

Yes, it is called Sound Check, here is an article on Apple support:

Use Sound Check in iTunes to make song volume
consistent

On an iPhone this is found in Settings > Music under the Playback heading near
the bottom.

Greetings Friends,

I have a music question. Naturally, when creating playlists that include music
recorded at different times, volume is lost or gained depending on when a track
may have been originally recorded. Is there any way to set parameters which,
when playing music allow the playlist to play at an automatically adjusted
volume? This may not be possible. And I can live with the issue. But I
thought it was worth asking on this list anyway. Thanks for any feedback, or,
thanks for just reading.

Hello,

You can toggle on/off the alternate characters in Settings, General and
navigate to keyboard. There should be an option to do so in the main keyboard

I hope this helps.

Re: popping buble sounds while typing?

2019-12-18 Thread Ed Worrell
Hello,

Yes, you can turn off some of the sounds. Navigate to Settings, accessibility,
VoiceOver, Audio, sound an haptics, Navigate down to the Text Editing section
and you can adjust any of those sounds.

I hope this helps.

Re: Sliding around the keyboard generates word suggesitons?

2019-12-18 Thread Ed Worrell
Hello,

If you turn up the time thresh-hold of when slide to type activates you can
utilize it to type longer words much quicker.

You can turn the thresh-hold up in Settings, Accessibility, VoiceOver, typing
and navigate to the bottom of this menu to adjust the setting thresh-hold.

I use a combination of slide to type and touch typing. You can also add the
option to your rotor and can quickly toggle it on/off with the VO rotor.

I have even stopped using FlickType because I love this built in feature.

Volume of voiceover changes randomly?

2019-12-18 Thread Shermeen Khan
Is this a known issue with 13.3? For some reason, vo is quieter when I
go into settings, but then becomes its normal loud self when i exit.
Occasionally and equally randomly, it'll get loud at other times. I
will share this with apple accessibility, but before I do, just wanted
to see if this is specific to me.

Thanks,
Shermeen

RE: Guide dog in United States-help me Please 🙏

2019-12-18 Thread Bonnie Blose
It was really nice of you to give this in depth explanation and I learned a lot
from what you wrote. I don't have a guide dog but believe it is wonderful to
learn even if the information does not apply to me. It may come in handy for
someone I meet. If I don't have that opportunity, I still have the knowledge
you shared. Thanks.

Subject: RE: Guide dog in United States-help me Please 🙏

Dave, that Amazon comment was very ignorant and entirely inappropriate.
Kiruna is from India and you may want to remember that not everybody knows
about everything.
I am in Canada and I get lots of people who ask me where I got my guide dog
from, how much they are and if I have to pay for them.
And just in case this is something you didn't know, India is part of the
Commonwealth just as Canada, Australia, Pakistan, Nigeria and other countries
are so maybe it would be possible for somebody from a Commonwealth country
where there is no guide dog school to apply to a guide dog school in another
Commonwealth country and be accepted to get a dog. I am not saying this is so,
but it is certainly possible.
I am in Canada yet I can apply at any US guide dog school to get a dog if I so
choose even though we have several guide dog schools in Canada. My first dog
was from Leader Dogs for the Blind in Rochester, Michigan and among the I think
24 people who were there in my group to get dogs 4 came from Spain on some
arrangement the Spanish government or maybe it was some sort of Spanish not for
profit group had with Leader Dogs.

Since nobody explained to Kiruna what the usual process is to get a guide dog,
I will do so in general terms.
You apply to a guide dog school, if it is the first time you get a dog from
them they typically would visit you where you live, they would want to see your
home and where you work (if you work) and they would also want to see you walk
around with a cane or your previous guide dog if you currently have one to
assess your mobility skills and so on.
If they accept you, they will at some point let you know when you can get a
dog, some schools have fairly long waiting lists. Once you get the date you
have to go to the school for typically a 3-week training course where you get
to know your dog and your dog gets to know you. Walking with a guide dog
requires training just as walking with a cane does and if you have never had a
dog you have to of course learn how to care for the dog, this includes
grooming, feeding and picking up the dog poop in a little plastic bag; I know,
sounds shitty, but I shit you not.
After your course you get to take your dog home, some schools may also send a
guide dog trainer home with you to do some more training in your own
environment or some schools may ask you to come for a shorter course at the
school and then you do more one-on-one training in your own city/town. In rare
cases a trainer may even come to you and do the entire training with you in
your city/town, but I think most schools would need a good reason to do this.
Most schools also like to follow up with you on an annual bases and they may
send a trainer to do a walk with you and evaluate how things are going.
Keep in mind that when you get a dog that dog is not yours. I assume all
schools are the same in this respect, but should you not care for the dog
properly they do have the right to take it away from you and I have heard of a
few cases where this was done.
As for the cost to train a dog, including breeding programs, puppy raising,
training and after-care it is I believe around $30,000 or $35,000 US so
actually buying a guide dog is not something most people could afford if the
schools weren't not for profit organizations who are financed from donations,
fund raising events, money bequeathed to them and so on. I believe in England
the government is involved as well and in Germany the health insurance pays for
guide dogs as well as for things like dog food, vet costs etc.

Lastly, remember the country where you live. How accepted are dogs there? I
haven't been to India with or without a dog, but I did once take my guide dog
to the Philippines where my wife is from. This was actually my first trip there
in 2009 and when we first met in person. I got all the paperwork done and I
wish I had not taken him. The first week was OK, we stayed on a small island
where we had rented a house together with another friend of mine from Germany
who is also married to a Filipina. The second week when I was back in the
Manila area I could not take my dog anywhere, not even into a Mcdonald's. We
did have a hotel which allowed pets for a fee and while a guide dog here is not
considered a pet and has rights, these do not apply in other countries. We
usually only went out for an hour or two at a time because I c
