Re: Keyboard is locked!

2020-02-03 Thread Jim Portillo
Thanks, Richard. It ended up not being sticky keys. It was the Modifier keys
being locked. I had no idea what to do, but I accidentally pressed something
which unlocked it. This has been a weird experience, because it was an iPhone
setting. I say that because I tried using another external keyboard with the
same results. Now, things seem to be working OK with the modifier keys being
unlocked.

Looking at Marketplace with the Facebook App

2020-02-03 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

Does anyone here use Market place, with the Facebook App?

If so, how do you see the whole ad?

For instance, I am trying to look at housing rentals, on market place. I
can read the description, sort of. I start reading 1, and part-way
through it, there is a read more option.

However, this isn't a link. I can't seem to enter on it, and activate it.

Does anyone here know what I am talking about?

If so, is there a way to possibly get around this, so that I can view
the whole ad?

Thank you,

Terri

RE: Keyboard is locked!

2020-02-03 Thread Richard Turner
I found these steps on the WikiHow page. Not sure if they are correct.
These are likely out of date, but it may get you going in the right direction.

This wikiHow teaches you how to turn off the Sticky Keys feature when using a
Bluetooth keyboard with your iPhone. The Sticky Keys feature allows you to
type keyboard shortcuts in sequence instead of at the same time, and is
disabled by default.

Steps
1
Open your iPhone’s Settings. It can be found on one of your home screens and
appears as a gray icon with cogs.
• It may be within a folder on one of your home screens labeled “Utilities.”
2
Select General. It’s in the third section of the menu.
3
Select Accessibility. It’s in the third section of this screen.
4
Select Keyboard. It’s in the fourth section of this menu.
5
Select Sticky Keys. It’s in the “Hardware Keyboards” section.
• The Sticky Keys feature is only available if you are using an external
Bluetooth keyboard with your iPhone, not the built-in touch keyboard.
• If the Sticky Keys feature is currently enabled, the text on the right side
of this option will say “On”.
6
Slide the button next to “Sticky Keys” to the “Off” position. This is the first
option on the screen, and once this step is completed the space to the
right of the button should be white.
• Now when you wish to use a keyboard shortcut (such as Command + V to paste
text), you will need to press both keys simultaneously.

Re: blind square help please. How do I enter a distant location into my places so that I can simulate a route?

2020-02-03 Thread Richard Turner
You do not need to go into settings, first. Just use the search button in the
top left.
Then, once you have your destination found, double tap on it and then flick to
simulate location.
Also, BTW, the search radius is for when you use a category like my places,
food, etc.

Subject: blind square help please. How do I enter a distant location into my

hi,
I am trying to enter a distant location into the my places portion of blind
square so I can do a simulation of a route.
I have read and reread the help section several times, and I just cannot figure
it out.
can someone please explain to me, from the opening screen of BlindSquare,
exactly what I must do in a step-by-step fashion in order to enter a distant
location and then simulate the route?
my understanding is that I need to add a location into my places. From my
places, I am pretty sure I can go to the actions button and then click on
simulator route
The problem is, when I enter the distant location address in the opening screen
top left search field, I get a message that the search location is not within
the defined 1 mile radius of my places section. I cannot seem to figure out a
way around this.

Any help will be most appreciated. Best, Keith

2020-02-03 Thread Richard Turner
On the first screen of Blind Square, find the search button in the top left,
not the my places search, but the plain search button.
Enter the address, for example, I'm in Oregon, I put in a made up address, 500
Broadway, New York City, NY
And found one place over 2 thousand miles away, I flicked right to that search
result and double tapped.
Then, flick right until you get to Simulate this location and double tap.
You do not have to add it to My Places first.
HTH,

Subject: blind square help please. How do I enter a distant location into my
places so that I can simulate a route?

hi,
I am trying to enter a distant location into the my places portion of blind
square so I can do a simulation of a route.
From my
places, I am pretty sure I can go to the actions button and then click on
simulator route The problem is, when I enter the distant location address in
the opening screen top left search field, I get a message that the search
location is not within the defined 1 mile radius of my places section. I cannot
seem to figure out a way around this.

Any help will be most appreciated. Best, Keith

This started working for me all by itself on my iPhone 11, but I still

Hold the phone in landscape, and do the three-finger swipe down, going from

Re: Freestyle Libre or Dexcom?

Conceptually, there's two major elements to any continuous glucose metering
solution (CGM):

   1. Sensor (all of the current systems use a small wire that is embedded
into your skin, reading the interstitial fluid).
  1. These are disposable.
  2. These have some local memory.
  3. These have some sort of power source (but since disposable, not
  user interesting)
  4. These cannot be reinserted
   2. Reader : get information from the sensor
  1. For FDA certification purposes, these were developed first; may be
"mandatory" to write an RX for
  2. These may communicate directly with the sensor, or via an
  intermediary.
 1. Dexcom chose to make the communication to the sensor via
Bluetooth. This is well integrated with the sensor, so it's
not so obvious
that you've got some other channel to the sensor. By using bluetooth,
phones and other medical devices can communicate directly and
across a fair
distance. It also provides for true continuous monitoring
(although what's
implemented is discrete ... 1 measurement every few minutes
... which is
more than adequate for treatment purposes, even automated insulin
 delivery systems)
 2. Freestyle uses NFC, which means data is only transferred in
 batches, at user initiated intervals
1. The "pro" version only stores 1 reading for every 15m or so;
but stores a full 2 weeks of data. These aren't supposed
to be sold to
individuals, but to clinics and require a special reader
(the iphone app
refuses to talk to the pro version of the sensors)

Where it gets a bit messy is in the 2.1 vs 2.2 area. There are a couple of
vendors of "dongles" which speak NFC on one side (to the sensor) and
bluetooth to your phone (or whatever). The dexcom system *includes such a
device* but it's not so obvious that's what is does (and it may not use
NFC, whatever the communication between sensor and transmitter is
proprietary to dexcom). As to why they made it disposable ... other than
profit, I have no doubt it made the FDA certification easier. Nothing
exposed, nothing the user can screw up. Nothing that degrades over the
expected lifetime of the device. On the plus side, it makes the dexcom
easier to interface with and use (since it's well integrated it
mechanically stays in place well, etc.).

The Libre, lacking that extra bit ... is less expensive to operate, but
it's not suitable for folks who need:

   1. real time alarms
   2. integration with insulin pumps or other delivery systems

However, third parties stepped up, reverse engineered the NFC interface and
provide a *reusable* transmitter that closes the gap between the dexcom and
Libre systems. However, since it's not provided by Abbot, the quality of
the integration is mixed (better if you want to hack on the code and
customize, less good if you want an out of the box solution).

I'm surprised that Abbot didn't step up and provide a certified factory
solution (but the FDA approval process is slow, painful and expensive. So
perhaps they are still in process; perhaps it's a next generation thing. I
have no inside information).

Since the dexcom solution is all provided by the factory (and they do
quality work) I believe it is both more accessible, and easier to use.

Since the Libre+third party solution has at least one extra party, there's
both ease of use and accessibility challenges. The cost savings may make it
worthwhile. Or, if you really only need the in-depth, detailed
*retrospective* statistics, the Libre solution (minus the extra
transmitter) may suit your needs well (e.g. a non-insulin dependent
individual who "just" needs to continue tweaking their diet ... or
medication regimen and not make minute by minute treatment adjustments).
Indeed, the "pro" version which your clinic reads the results after 2 weeks
may be ideal (I used it for my diabetic cat for a few weeks).

Personally, I fall in the middle. I don't need alerts; but I do need enough
feedback to make optimal food choices. The bluetooth transmitter isn't
vital, but it does provide better data resolution ... but it is a bit of a
PITA (perhaps after a few months I'll have worked out the kinks for my
personal use cases). I'd have rather stayed with Dexcom, but the cost
savings was substantial ... because my insurance won't cover a CGM (I'm not
sick enough) ... which is kinda backwards, in that it will help delay
getting that sick. Oh well, re-engineering our healthcare system is
something we've outsourced to lawyer/politicians.

Hello,
The transmitter is what sends the reading to the phone. From what I understand
the sensor sits inside the transmitter. It is a bluetooth transmitter.

If you use touch typing, just find the vowel you want and keep your finger on
it - there will be a small haptic buzz and voiceover will announce that a row
of accented vowels have just appeared and you slide your finger slightly up and
then right or left until you hear the version you want.

How to get accented letters when typing in Spanish on the iPhone

2020-02-03 Thread Kimberly
Hi,

I’m learning Spanish using duo lingo on my iPhone and it’s going mostly okay. I
have installed the Spanish language keyboard but I still can’t always get the
correct accent marks as I type. For example, vowels are frequently accented but
even on the Spanish keyboard the various accent marks don’t appear.

How can I get the various accented letters to appear when I type?

Thanks,
Kim

2020-02-03 Thread Kay Malmquist
I understand the disposable sensors, but what is the disposable transmitter
for? Sounds like one more piece of equipment that you have to keep track of
that the Libre doesn't have. If you could explain what this transmitter
does, it would sure help. Thanks for your in-depth answer and explanation.
It cleared a lot of things up for me.

Dexcom doesn't use NFC; so I don't know why it wouldn't work with iphone's
pre-7.

Operational cost of the dexcom is higher, there's the disposable
sensors(similar to libre) + a transmitter (which is also disposable, but is
good for 3 months if memory serves). I much preferred the Dexcom, but as I'm
paying out of pocket I switched to the Libre (and was grey market importing
the "pro" version from India). I've just started using the miaomiao2, it is
consistently reading lower than the Libre app (ranging from 10 to 20
points); but is more consistent with fingerstick. The miaomiao app (tomato)
may be somewhat accessible (but color me slightly dubious; it seems a bit
unpolished. I haven't tried spike.app (which seems more polished; but one
has to jump over some hoops on a weekly or yearly basis to authenticate.

The Dexcom allows for calibration to match your fingerstick device of
choice, the Libre doesn't. So, if covered by your insurance, I'd go with the
Dexcom.

As for alarms, Dexcom communicates by bluetooth and is in continuous
(well, every 5 min or so) which is why alarms are built into the app.

Libre uses NFC, so if you use their app (or reader) alarms aren't really
practical. If you add the miaomiao, there is the same sort of bluetooth
polling going on (as with the dexcom) so apps such as Tomato and spike can
provide alarms.

The miaomiao is a one time purchase, and is rechargeable (although, over
time the battery will wear out and isn't replaceable).

I think the Freestyle ones last longer but if the app doesn’t have an

Though, you may want to double check the specifications for each one to

Hi all,

Yes, this is very much iPhone related. I have a question about two

know that the Libre app is accessible but I don't know anything about the
Dexcom. My doctor wants me to get the Dexcom because it has alarms and the
Libre does not. The downside of it is that you have to enter in codes every
so often. To me, if it is accessible that doesn't really matter because
there is always Aira or some way to work that out. I also noticed that the
Libre link app does not work on the 6 S. Anyone know why? Or do you have a
customer service number? Does anyone have any answers or where I can go to
find out more? Thanks in advance.

Hello all,

Well, I returned the Jabra Elite 65T and after much research and reading, I
have ordered the Plantronics BackBeat FIT 3200 Bluetooth Earbuds from Amazon.
These came out around September 2019 and already rate 4.4 out of 5 stars with
65 reviews. I think these are the best solution for me because one I where
hearing aids. second, I do not care for ear buds that are pressed into the ear
canal. The Plantronics have a unique ear piece that just fits into your ear
without protruding into the ear canal. These also rate high for sound and phone
calls.

Just thought I would share my findings. FYI, when I first ordered them last
week the expected delivery was one to two months. I was willing to wait if they
fill the bill for me. However, I have received an update from Amazon and
expected delivery is between tomorrow and Febrary 9th.

Best,

Re: Downloading purchased ringtones to a windows pc?

2020-02-03 Thread Richard Turner
Actually, they are M4A files with a different extension, M4R.
iMazing should back them up, and with iTunes, you should also be able to find
them buried in your iTunes folder if you use iTunes.

Re: Freestyle Libre or Dexcom?

2020-02-03 Thread Richard Turner
I think people are making this topic more confusing than it needs to be by not
being clear.
The Dexcom 6 works all the way down to the 5s.
I am pretty sure the comments about not working without some jail breaking was
concerning the Bluetooth dongle for the Freestyle system if someone wanted to
use it with an older iPhone.
But, they were not clear since the subject line has both names.
Everything I've read about the Dexcom and heard from a couple people I know, is
that it is more accessible.

pursuit of that "perfect" bluetooth ear phones!!!

2020-02-03 Thread Terri Hedgpeth
Hello all,

Well, I returned the Jabra Elite 65T and after much research and reading, I
have ordered the Plantronics
BackBeat FIT 3200 Bluetooth Earbuds from Amazon. These came out around
September 2019 and already rate 4.4 out of 5 stars with 65 reviews. I think
these are the best solution for me because one I where hearing aids. second,
I do not care for ear buds that are pressed into the ear canal. The
Plantronics have a unique ear piece that just fits into your ear without
protruding into the ear canal. These also rate high for sound and phone
calls.

Just thought I would share my findings. FYI, when I first ordered them last
week the expected delivery was one to two months. I was willing to wait if
they fill the bill for me. However, I have received an update from Amazon
and expected delivery is between tomorrow and Febrary 9th.

Best,

Terri Hedgpeth

Not really anymore,

Do a search in google for it,

I gave up on the idea of using it as you had to somewhat jail break your phone
to get it working.

RE: Freestyle Libre or Dexcom?

2020-02-03 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Hi Greg,

That's interesting
The documentation I read said the USA only had 10 days,

I wondered why that would be when everyone else is 14.
But thanks for that correction.

And yes the app could be somewhat better,

I've tried sharing through another system but that didn't work for some
reason either.

I wish they'd release the Libre 2 in to NZ,
It's got a Bluetooth adapter built in so it talkl to the phone from a distance.

I think it's out in the UK already.

Hello,
We also have the sensors that last 14 days in the United States. It is what I
use. The app for the libra works fine to test your sugar. There are parts of
the app that could be better. The part of the app where you can share your
readings is not all that accessible.
