RE: Do we know what earphones SE takes?

2020-04-22 Thread R Van Lant
Since I keep my phones for multiple years, I tend to run through multiple sets
of headphones. Is it pretty easy to find inexpensive replacement headphones
with the lightning connection? I do already have a dongle to use when I get
the new phone, but this is the first phone I will have without the old 3.5 MM
jack. I’m also hoping. I also like Bluetooth, but I seem to misplace them.
In fact, I’m on the hunt for a Bluetooth earpiece I took off during a phone
call last week and I still cannot find where I set it! Ergh! Hoping it didn’t
fall into a trash can or somewhere I’ll never find it.

So, I completely ignored this thread, but now I just got curious. Does the new
SE have a headphone jack? No?

approval request sent

2020-04-22 Thread Ann Byrne

I frequently get the following message on my phone:

Approval request sent. To continue using iCloud on this iPhone,
approve it from one of your other devices using iCloud or enter your
security code.

When I activate my "other device", an iPod, there is no request to
approve. I do not have a security code for iCloud; I just sign in
with my Apple ID. What can I do to remedy this problem?
When I activate files, I see 'iCloud heading". I believed I had
notes and contacts saved to iCloud, but I don't find them there on my
phone. So I'm guessing iCloud isn't active. Or somebody ate my notes.

thanks,

Ann

WWDC 2020 is scheduled to be held in June as a “completely new online
experience” due to COVID-19 concerns. But first, Apple is inviting some
selected developers to attend a webinar about accessibility ahead of the WWDC.

Developers are being invited by email to register for the live event on April
23, 2020, as shown by

 Steve
Troughton-Smith
on Twitter. According to Apple, the webinar is about how developers can
improve their apps by supporting accessibility features. What’s more
interesting is that developers will be able to interact with Apple engineers
during the online event for the first time.

At Apple, we believe that technology is most powerful when it empowers
everyone. Join us for an online event to learn how you can take advantage of
the award-winning accessibility features that come standard on Apple devices.
You’ll be able to ask questions during and after the sessions, and sign up for
individual consultations.

While the idea of an interactive webinar is great for developers, it can be
part of something bigger. As the company will soon hold its first fully online
WWDC, this accessibility event may be the opportunity for Apple to test the
platform that will be used to broadcast the Worldwide Developers Conference in
June.

Re: New game: Galactic Colonies

2020-04-22 Thread Wayne Merritt
Gerardo,
I've found a lot of good information on the AppleVis app directory
entry I sent yesterday, as well as on the AudioGames.net forum for the
game. From what I understand, there are 2 entries on Audio Games. The
one mentioned in the AppleVis entry is for getting started questions
and issues. I've progressed fairly well, though it is clear this is a
beta/testing release. I'm having some issues in sector 2 which are
likely bugs with the game. I'm still doing the research projects
though to unlock more benefits.

Issues with Whatsapp

2020-04-22 Thread turab chimthanawala
Hi all,
I operate on a XR and am facing the following issues on whatsapp.
1. While selecting the chats for forwarding messages, Voice over
doesn't read the names of groups properly, for instance, for a group
name 'LISTED 2020', it only reads 2020.
2. While browsing the chats, it doesn't read the name of business
acounts: it only reads after opening that chat.
Eagerly await solutions.
Thanking you
Best
Turab

Re: Iphone typing problem

2020-04-22 Thread 'Harry Bell' via VIPhone
In that case, if you go into Settings, General, keyboard, check the Slide to
type option: it should be toggled OFF, as it can cause such problems, unless
you know that you are deliberately learning to use that new input method.

RE: Iphone typing problem

2020-04-22 Thread Debby
Hi Amy,

This is puzzling. You may have already tried this, but with your husband
standing by have you turned the phone off and back on? I was going to suggest
turning off Voiceover and then back on, but you have already done that.

The other thing to try might be to change the typing style to "touch typing."
It isn't a perfect solution, but it might give another clue if you do have to
call Apple accessibility.

Good luck!

Debby

I'd recommend calling Apple Accessibility and ask them to do a screen share
with you so they can observe what's happening on your phone.
In the last week, I have had two very different and very strange problems on
two phones. My work 8 plus and the SE.
Ultimately, both were solved by resetting all settings after confirming with
Apple Accessibility that nothing else worked.
I won't bore you with the details, just know that if you reset all settings,
you will not lose any data, but you will have to go and change back all the
settings you have customized like on the rotor, keyboard settings, Siri, and on
and on.
But, as big of a pain as that is, both phones are working fine now.

it has the lightning headphone jack just like the phones since the 7.
  So, no 3.5 MM jack.
Hence the discussion about getting the dongle to use headphones that have
the 3.5 mm plug.
Though I am sure the new phone comes with the lightning plug headphones.

Re: Do we know what earphones SE takes?

2020-04-22 Thread Richard Turner
it has the lightning headphone jack just like the phones since the 7.
So, no 3.5 MM jack.
Hence the discussion about getting the dongle to use headphones that have the
3.5 mm plug.
Though I am sure the new phone comes with the lightning plug headphones.

Voice control is not even set up on my phone. Voiceover does talk and

it enters an extra character.

Benefits of registering on the audio games.net website

2020-04-22 Thread Wren Langley

Sent from my iPhone Hi,
The benefit that I know of of registering on the audio games.net website is
that you can post on there if you want to. It also is so that they can make
sure you are a human and not a robot or something. :-). I believe it also gives
you access to any room that you wish to go in.

God bless,
Wren Langley

List moderation [was "RE: no longer the RE: Ordered a new SE this morning subject reflection!"]

2020-04-22 Thread chaltain
It seems hypocritical to me that people are contributing to list traffic by
complaining about list traffic. I'm pretty sure Simon just told me the other
day to use the delete key when I reminded people to follow the wishes of the
moderators and owners of this list when they say the following at the end of
every message:

If you have any questions or concerns about the running of this list, or if you
feel that a member's post is inappropriate, please contact the owners or
moderators directly rather than posting on the list itself.

Iphone typing problem

2020-04-22 Thread Amy Johnson
Hi all,
This morning I turned my Iphone se on and could not type in my pin.
Every time I tried it would enter an extra number. I had my phone set
to double tap to enter on items. I had my husband enter the pin with
voice over off and I turned it back on and still can not type
correctly without extra numbers being entered. Wondering if anyone
knows how I can fix this problem? I have the newest software on my
Iphone se.
Thanks,
Amy

RE: Texting from an iPad [was "RE: I just looked in the settings but I could not find it"]

2020-04-22 Thread Simon A Fogarty
iMessage and text messages are two different things,

iMessage is an apple only thing,

but if you turn off iMessage then you only send texts or receive them at the
other end, then you only send text back.

Text messages can be sent to an android user from an iPad, as long as the
android user has the text message settings set to use an email address & a cell
phone number. The iPad user sends a text to the android user using the email
associated with text messaging. I send my partner text messages this way all
the time.

The One I use is the one that Kathy talked about for about $16.99. I have used
it personally and I have 2 of them and may pick up a couple more. I've seen
the one's from apple and I know this one is much better quality. The link to
purchase is

I did get a great deal and no problem with the size of it. The new phones have
the screen going all the way to the edges of the screen, so, as someone said
earlier don't require as much "real estate." My guess is, with it in its case
that it is about6 1/2 x 3 1/2. It is the same thickness as my SE; it is
heavier, but I'm use to it now.

No problem. That is what I would have liked for it to have been pronounced
with a short I, since my dad's name was Carroll, and my mother was Justine.
She should have done that when she named me, but it didn't occur to me until
I was in my late 40's, and I figured, why bother now.
