RE: Sounds and haptics

2020-05-24 Thread bentleyj1952
Oh man, what a major difference this made when I changed from 100% to 50%.

Now, I don’t feel all of that thumping through the case of the phone. That’s
not so cool when my phone is on my chest while I’m in bed. And, I am still
getting the same good haptic feedback through the home button which I like.

This is great.

I love this phone.

Did you change the haptic intensity found under Settings, Accessibility,
Voiceover, Audio, Haptic intensity? I suggest you try swiping through a few
different controls with that set to 0% and compare it to the 100% setting.

RE: Sounds and haptics

2020-05-24 Thread Alan Lemly
Mike,

I've gotten used to it by now so it's not quite as noticeable as when I first
converted to iOS 13.x but I notice the haptic feedback around the body of my SE
2020 as I swipe through the home screen icons or between any other screen
controls. I've got my haptic intensity set to 80% and I don't use a heavy case
on my iPhone but I definitely get haptic feedback around the body of the phone,
not just its home button.

Having Trouble Getting Text Tone to Work

I'm having trouble at times getting my text tone to work upon receiving text
messages. I went to sounds and selected the one I wanted. Went to notifications

exactly what to do now. In the past, it has worked but isn't now. My phone is
not muted. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm using the latest version

Hi all,

Under sounds and haptics, I find keyboard clicks and system haptics.

I experimented with each turned off and then turned on. I do not see the
difference.

What am I missing?

Okay, so then, the vibration he's talking about is the haptic vibration and not
the phone physically vibrating? I thought he was talking about a physical
vibration of the phone, like if your ringer is on silent and the phone
vibrates. Thanks much.

I suspect the Siri is the Australian Siri female.

The haptic touch he explains for the home button is in the general settings,

Re: how to get voice over to say if the screen is locked?

Mine does say "screen locked", but only because I have sounds turned off in the
rotor. I got used to having the sounds off because I often use a Braille
display, and now I find them annoying. It's all a question of personal
preference.

RE: I'm not sure that all of my emails are getting through and. Thank you Anna.

2020-05-24 Thread bentleyj1952
Hi,

I am considering the possibility of using my iPhone SE 2020 as a note-taker
using Braille to input the text.

I am a Braille user and I am wondering what apps people recommend for taking
notes on an iPhone.

I have around 150 files on my current notetaker. If I can use the iPhone one
third as efficient as the Himms Braille Sense, then I want to try.

, This is my first iPhone so I do not know if there might be a native app
already on the phone or should I consider something from the app store.

Are other iPhone users switching from note-takers to the iPhone?

Regards,

Hi James,

You're welcome. It sounds complicated, but if you know braille, you'll catch on
quickly. It can be a very efficient way of typing text on an iPhone, especially
if you type in contracted braille.

Best of luck,

Anna

RE: how to get voice over to say if the screen is locked?

2020-05-24 Thread Alan Lemly
Dennis,

I don't know whether it's possible to get Voiceover to announce when your
screen automatically locks but I suspect not. I have a procedural solution that
I use. I don't like my iPhone to automatically lock since it seemed to do it at
the most inconvenient times when I had it turned on. So, I went to Settings,
Display and brightness, and set Auto-lock to never. Now, I simply press the
power button on my SE 2020, hear a click, and know it is locked. I much prefer
to control when the phone locks so hopefully you can find the setting that
works for you too.

Hi there!

I am afraid that our games are currently not accessible to blind and visually
impaired individuals. Accessibility is definitely something that we need to
work on, so we hope to do better in the future.

Our development team is only small, but as we grow it is our goal to allot more
time into making sure that our games are as inclusive as possible.

I am very sorry for the disappointing news.

I am writing you because I saw that you had a new listing in the IPhone store

thoughts on iPhone SE

2020-05-24 Thread Dennis Long
Hi, I have had the iPhone SE since Thursday May 21. It is completely
unlocked. I purchased from BestBuy. The first day I got 12 hours the
second day I got about 23 hours out of the phone. I am on the third day
and the third day I will have gotten over 24 Hours out of a charge. I am
charging and fully discharging the battery. I don't have automatic checking
for things like mail. I don't have Facebook installed. I have TuneIn
weather gods voice dream reader TV apps like Hulu although I haven't used
them much yet on the new phone. I also have voice dream scanner installed
and a few other apps. The speaker quality is better than the 8 and original
SE. The Phone is more responsive and app updates are faster. It just
works. I would absolutely recommend purchasing it.

There are several settings at play here.
The easy one of course is in the notification settings.
You may want to try toggling them off and then on again.
In the VoiceOver settings, there is the Always Speak Notifications, if that is
off, VoiceOVer won’t speak them.

play a sound, or VoiceOver never reads them?
There are several settings at play here.
The easy one of course is in the notification settings.
You may want to try toggling them off and then on again.
In the VoiceOver settings, there is the Always Speak Notifications, if that is
off, VoiceOVer won’t speak them.

Notifications Question

2020-05-24 Thread Carla
I just got my new SE-20 Phone and love it! The only problem I am having is
all of the notifications I have turned on are not working and I know a few
should have come in. I talked with Apple Accessability and he couldn't
figure it out either. Any suggestions on how to make them work?

I just installed the Navilens app but am a bit confused regarding obtaining the

repost it if possible. I am especially interested in getting the Avery labels

This is not limited to Facebook, it happened to me yesterday with the PC

I was at Shopper’s Drug Mart and wanted to bring up my card image to scan it at

RE: App Store Not Saying Updates Available

2020-05-24 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
That is not true, I just touch the App Store icon on my iPhone 8 and Voiceover
said “App Store, 1 update available”.
When I touched it a bit earlier it did not indicate that there was an update
and when I now opened the App Store and went to the “My Account” button, it
also said “My account, 1 update available”.
The icon still says how many updates you have, but I find it often won’t show
until I go into the App Store and refresh or I simply have to wait long enough,
if I don’t look for say several days it will say there are updates.
I have also experienced when it said, for example, “2 updates available” and
after I opened the App Store and refreshed the list there would suddenly be 5
or 6 more updates, if at that point I exit out to the home screen Voiceover
will then correctly announce the number of updates.

Mike,

You're correct that the Automatic updates setting under Settings, General,
Software update is different than the one found under Your name, iTunes and App
store, and App updates found under the Automatic updates heading. The former
pertains to iOS updates while the latter pertains to your other installed apps.
I thought if you had automatic updates turned on for app updates, that they
would automatically download without any action on your part. However, I've
always had that turned off so I'm not the best person to ask. I don't believe
cellular data has anything to do with the automatic app update setting.

As someone else posted, it seems logical that if you have automatic app updates
turned on, the need for a numerical badge giving the number of app updates when
focus is on the App store icon would be unnecessary. However, that doesn't seem
to be your experience and I can understand the badge if timing has anything to
do with the update download.

When you turn on Automatic updates in, Settings / General / Software updates,
to update the iOS isn't this different than automatic updates in iTunes & App
store? From what I understand the iOS will update at night when you're not
using your phone if this is turnned on. But on the other hand, on my old SE I
had automatic updates turned on in, iTunes and App Store, but my apps didn't
update automatically. I always got the report that I had X amount updates
available when I touched the App Store icon. Or, is this automatic update

Holly,

I've been using computers too long to be a fan of automatic anything where they
are concerned. I prefer to have the final say on whether an app is updated in
case it breaks accessibility or does something else untoward. Folks on this
list are great at letting me know if an app update has a problem and I prefer
to wait a bit before updating although I must confess that I've been executing
that update all button more frequently than in the past because I've not
experienced any negative updates as of late. Don't let my habits influence what
works best for you, however.

Why not just have automatic updates enabled? What is the disadvantage?

RE: Outlook app questions

2020-05-24 Thread Alan Lemly
Dennis,

I did not find a setting in Outlook for iOS where you indicate whether your
account is using the POP3 or IMAP protocol. The help included with the app does
state that POP3 is supported. I'm not sure this is an issue for installing and
using the app. As I recall, when I first added my gmail account to my iPhone
many years ago, I was prompted by iOS at that time what protocol I was setting
up and I chose IMAP for my iPhone. I will add that I use POP3 on my desktop
computer running Windows 7 and Outlook 2010. When I installed Outlook for iOS a
couple of days ago, I was prompted for which email account on my iPhone to use
with it. I indicated my sole gmail account and I was not asked anything about
POP3, IMAP or anything to do with email protocols. I did have to provide my
Google accounts password which controls access to gmail.

I assume your question about telling it to only manually check has to do with
how often mail is refreshed or downloaded. I believe this is an iOS setting
which can be found in Settings, Passwords and accounts, and Fetch new data. I
have this setting set to Push but it can be changed here to manual. The Outlook
for iOS app does not have a setting within it that affects this.

You do not have to have an Office 365 account to use Outlook for iOS. I use
Microsoft Office 2010 including Outlook 2010 on my Windows 7 computer. You do
have to have a Microsoft account which I have had for years when they used to
call it Microsoft Passport. You can get a Microsoft account here:

https://account.microsoft.com/account?lang=en-us

I've not received any of those this message is only partially downloaded
messages when using the app but my settings are probably much different than
yours so I'm not sure that helps.

Now that I've used the app a couple of days, I'll be posting something later
this afternoon summarizing my experience and commenting on its use. I think you
are going to just have to download and try it. Other than the time you invest
in doing so, there really is no cost to this as it shouldn't affect whatever
you're currently doing on your iPhone for email.

Good luck.

Alan Lemly

Hi, can you tell it what kind of account type you want pop3 or imap? Can you
tell it to only manually check? Do you need a 365 account? Does it give you
the message this message is only partially downloaded like I get when reading
mail from a mailing list like this one?

Hi,
I am trying to compose a message in the Outlook for iOS App. As I attempt to
fill in the “to” field, I hear over and over and over again, “one suggested
contact” I can not seem to type in the sender’s email address without hearing
this message over and over again! I can’t even tell if I have typed the
sender’s address correctly. WTF!

Best,

Hi,
Funny this comes up I just saw an
article about this bug in the mainstream tech press. So it's a
known bug and the fix all have implemented is exactly what they
suggested doing for now till Apple rolls out a patch or fixes it
on their end.
Take good care.
