RE: New for voiceover and iOS 14 and Mac operating system big sur

2020-06-22 Thread Simon A Fogarty
I’m watching it now from my apple tv 4k using the apple tv app,

I can’t see anything out of place as yet as they have AD included in the
presetation

I’ve got to watch the entire thing to see what might be of interest in ios 14
etc.

I have not listened, but Jonathan Mosen did his normal review. Technology

Yeah but those that have been hit and survived are a lot less than those who
have been hit and not survived.

Some guy in the states had seemingly been hit 7 times

And if a storm is rolling in from somewhere and you can hear the thunder then
the lightneing is going to be on you quicker than you can move.

Remember that lightening is the fastest thing we have on earth
Being light and electricity
The noise is the sound barrier being broken

I agree with Simon that being alerted when lightning has struck: a little late
for that, but I disagree with him that being struck by lightning will put both
you and your phone out of order because there are many recorded instances of
unfortunate and, obviously, attractive people who have been lightning-struck,
not only once but several-many times who have lived to bore their friends with
the tale of their, miraculous, experience.

RE: Microsoft Teams trouble with Microsoft teams sign in and set up

2020-06-22 Thread R Van Lant
Jen,
I joined my first two Teams groups today. While it was on my laptop, the
concept my help. In one case, a coworker had added me to a teams group she
created and I got an email with a note to open in Teams. In the other case, I
think I clicked on a provided link that allowed me to opt into a public Teams
group at our company. So, I suspect that the message you are getting is
related to you needing to be invited to join a particular group someone has
created. Until I joined these groups, my view in Teams was empty.

Glad to hear the app is accessible. I think I'll download it.

RE: How to calm a dog during thunder storms, was RE: Lightning alert

2020-06-22 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Like people all dogs are different,
Some will be fine in these situations and some wont be.

I've had 3 guide dogs and 1 of them hated fireworks and thunger if it heard it,

One couldn't care less and the other wasn't a fan of the fireworks but thunder
and lightening wasn't an issue
The one that hated loud noises / thunger etc also wasn't a fan of being hugged

I also thought that was one of the things the dog schools screened dogs for,
but my husband and I have had three dogs, from Guiding Eyes and Seeing Eye, and
all of them had a real fear of thunderstorms. If we were outside somewhere and
it started to thunder, my husband's first dog would just plant his feet and
refuse to go any further. He would turn around and go back home as fast as he
could, but not go any further the other direction.

Which school did yours come from?

It probably varies between models, but in general, how does one tell a router
to check for a firmware update? I would think it best if it did it automaticly.
Thanks for any information.

security fixes.

A good rule of thumb is to replace your home router about every 4 years (even
if working and even if you have been doing the firmware updates). And, there
have been advances in wi-fi capabilities in the last several years that you may
be able to take advantage of.

RE: New for voiceover and iOS 14 and Mac operating system big sur

2020-06-22 Thread Alan Lemly
Mary,

I'd be very surprised if iOS 14 corrects the native Mail app focus issue if
they were unable to correct it through the multiple iterations of iOS 13.
Fortunately, Outlook for iOS is working great for me and doesn't have the focus
issue so I'm done with the native Mail app.

In all the coverage of the online event today, I have seen absolutely nothing
about anything new for Accessibility, voiceover or otherwise. Thats not
unusual. But sometimes they show stuff on the slides that they dont announce.
I havent seen anything about Accessibility and any of the tech articles I have
read. I wonder if anybody saw this with a sighted person, and if anyone knows
of anything publicly shown at the event regarding voiceover accessibility. I
can certainly think of some things. Fix the focus bug and email would be my
number one, and thats not a new problem.

In preparing myself for when Telcel (my carrier) restocks the iPHones SE 2nd
Generation, my sister (who got herself an SE2020 last month), has been looking
online to get herself and me, a case; however she says that cases for iPHones
SE2020 aren’t available yet here in Mexico! So between an iPHone 7 or 8 case,
which would be the nearest in terms of camera and other controls, that would
fit a new sE? Thanks for info.

Re: New for voiceover and iOS 14 and Mac operating system big sur

2020-06-22 Thread Michael Feir
There was absolutely no mention of new accessibility features in the
keynote this year. That's not alltogether bad given how much they added
last time which needed to be improved upon. Looking at the cessions
scheduled over the week which have been revealed so far, pickings are slim
for accessibility. There's a cession on using the VoiceOver custom rotor
capability. A couple of others deal with accessibility including one
dedicated to creating accessible apps on Big Sur. I have yet to see full
release notes on the various operating systems. That can often reveal
VoiceOver improvements not mentionned.

There was nothing accessibility related in the state of the platform
speech. That doesn't mean that there are no substantial accessibility
improvements. I suppose it does mean that there's unlikely to be any major
mind-blowing accessibility upgrades this time around. However, a number of
the new features discussed would certainly be of help to blind users.
Nothing struck me as particularly likely to be inaccessible to VoiceOver.

iOS13 saw a number of pretty largescale accessibility features added but
also saw a marked dip in quality control. Frankly, I'd be delighted if
things just worked and we weren't faced with any nasty bugs this time
around. I think it's actually pretty likely that iOS14 will be a much
smoother ride in that regard.

The game's not over yet. Often, more videos and cessions get added as these
things progress. Also, there are the Apple Design awards on June 29th.
Quite often, I've heard about accessible apps during those presentations.
There are also a ton of labs and appointments with Apple engineers with
nosy non-developers like me don't have accesss to. Those behind the scenes
discussions might well result in apps being made accessible after the
event. I intend to keep a close ear on things.

Accessible games that are good for toddlers?

2020-06-22 Thread Dacia Luck
I am looking for good accessible games or other apps that are accessible and
friendly for toddlers? My daughter is almost too, and is not blind, but I am. I
am looking for games that she can play on my phone, but I can also play with
her. Before everyone starts judging me and saying that Screen Time is bad for
kids, I don’t intend on using it all the time, but sometimes when I need her to
be entertained for just a little bit, or if we are waiting on something and I
want to entertain her and want to play with something that we can both interact
with. I would prefer free, but I’m willing to pay if necessary.

Sugested Change To Make To Voice Dream Reader For Voice Over Users

2020-06-22 Thread Arnold Schmidt
Hopefully, everybody else on this list already knows this, but I post this just
in case. Being that I use VoiceOver, I have often wished that I could get rid
of all the text on the screen, I don't really need it, and too often, when
looking for the play button, I touch text and it moves the cursor to that
point. Also, when I tried to read by word or line, it would do fine until it
got to the end of the screen, then sometimes seemed to get confused. Go into
advanced visual settings, and change it so that only one line of text appears
on the screen. This way, you can turn the rotor to characters, words, or
lines, and read by that amount if needed, such as in a poem or recipe, or it
will read continuously with the play button. To get this to work, you first
have to touch the single line of text on the screen, it will say text and read
the line. Sometimes, you have to swipe around a bit to find this line, it is
there. Also, the selecting and manipulating text now works quite well. Put the
cursor before the first word you wish to select, then follow the voice dream
directions.

Accessible group games to play with sighted players

2020-06-22 Thread Richard Turner
Hello,
Some friends want to know if there are multiplayer games that are accessible to
VoiceOver that also have a visual component.
I have not delved into games like that.
I could dig around at AppleVis.com but I would like to know if anyone has any
suggestions from personal experience to save me digging through all the notes
on Applevis.

Thanks,

Richard

RE: Braille characters on a Braille display

2020-06-22 Thread Richard Turner
Using my computer, there was no hello, until you said after that line.
So, if those are graphic characters, no.
VoiceOver translates printed characters into braille.
If they are an image, no.

Subject: Braille characters on a Braille display

Hi all

Does anyone know if it's possible for Voiceover to output Braille characters to
a Braille display? Consider this next line as an
example:
⠓⠑⠇⠇⠕
That's hello in Braille. For me, Voiceover speaks the Braille dot numbers but
if I have a Braille display connected nothing gets Brailled. Does anyone know
any way of getting Braille characters to show up on a display?

Cheers,
Ben.

To adjust phone noise cancelation, go to settings. Next go to
accessibility. Next choose audio/visual, and then you can turn phone
noise cancelation on or off.

Hi Carolyn,

Do you mean VoiceOver sounds? If so, open VoiceOver settings and go to
Audio Settings, then Sounds & Haptics. You can turn them off there. You can
also add Sounds to the rotor to make it easy to switch them on and off if you
want them sometimes but not at others.

Best,

I have been unable to place my order for at least a month. I had Apple pay set
up on my iPhone 11. I had been running iOS 3.4 something. Would choose my
delivery time and then double tap the place order button. It would give me a
message to please choose my delivery time. I called Apple support and they
confirmed I had selected my delivery time. They tried to assist me by turning
off v/o and then placing the order but we were unsuccessful. They were able to
find me a phone number for Instacart support. I had to change my payment method
so they could place the order. Subsequently, I tried to place orders and the
button to place the order was dim. I had updated to 3.5.1 in the meantime but I
am still unable to place my orders. Is anyone having similar issues using v/o
with Instacart? Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi yes you can lable photos. You 3 finger tap and hold on the photo vo will
make a 3 toan sound and then you can put a name of the photo. I have found
though that this doesn't always work meening that the name doesn't always stick
and I have not figured out why this is. From Mich.

I believe that, if you use TapTapSee, you can use the app to identify
the photo and then there is an option to save a copy of the image with
the description that the app gives you as it's name.
