RE: Siri problem

2020-06-28 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Google do the google voice,
It's still synthetic
As is the Samsung voice,

I believe you can pay for more humanised voices but they don't come free with
android devices.

2020-06-28 Thread Jennie Facer
I'm not sure what you mean by display settings, but you have to pair your
display through VoiceOver settings and Braille. at the end of these settings is
a choose your display heading. There will be a button that says your focus
unpaired. Erble tap on that. It will ask for a pin. I can't remember if it is
or but either of those two pins will work. Then there is a pair
button after the pin number that you double tap on to pair your display. You
will have to do this on both devices. Hmpe this helps.

RE: Newspapers.com

2020-06-28 Thread Richard Turner
I have not used Newspapers.com but if the files are downloadable, I would use
Voice Dream Scanner, though it doesn't really handle columns yet.

KNFB Reader, free version inside the NFB Newsline beta might do it too. I
would not buy the KNFB Reader at its $100 price tag.

I would like to use Newzpapers.com to research things that happened in a given
time period in my life. Is anybody using Newspapers.com; if so, what are you
using to read those articles that are just photos of articles?

Thanks, very much.

More Apple watch questions, yet again

2020-06-28 Thread Terri Stimmel

Hello everyone,

I have a few more questions, regarding the Apple watch. I try to look
most things up, or find out on my own. But sometimes I read so much I
just feel a bit overwhelmed.

Ok first of all, if I were to accidentally leave my phone at home, when
I go out, can I still access the watch? Could I still respond to texts,
and make and answer a call?

Sometimes when I go out, I have a tendency to forget my phone. It
doesn't happen always. Which is good. But it would be nice to know that
I could still reach out, if I needed to do so.

Also, is there a way to get the now playing screen to stop coming up on
my watch?

When I play music over my iPhone, or something within Voicedream, this
screen keeps popping up.

Is there a way to stop this?

I think this is all for now. Again, any help is appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

Has anyone noticed this

2020-06-28 Thread Gordon
So Apple will sometimes make little changes under the hood that affects
the way voice over behaves. This usually happens in waves, and not
everyone gets the updates at the same time. I think it usually takes a
week or so before everyone sees the changes. As of Thursday my iPhone
isn't chatty when playing content such as whatsapp messages and other
messages from recording apps. in the past voice over would repeat the
length and other information associated with the messages when they
began to play. Now voice over is silent as soon as you double tap to
play something. I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed this on your
phones?

You can just go into JAWS in the system tray and then selection Options ->
Voices -> Add/Remove Voices. There's a play sample button for each voice.

Re: More Apple watch questions, yet again

2020-06-28 Thread Shirley Baker
If you have a series 3 watch and later, you don't have to worry about making
and answering calls, nor receiving and answering text messages. I purposely
don't always carry my phone everywhere I go. For fear that I might give you the
wrong answer about the now playing screen, someone else can answer that for
you. I know how I would get rid of something myself if I don't want it on the
screen. When you get a phone call, you answer it like you do your phone by
tapping twice with two fingers. At least that's how I do it. If you get a text
message, go to messages and double tap on that and there's reply, dictate and
scribble. I get suggestions of what to say in response. i also believe there's
handwriting too but since I don't use that, I don't worry about that.
Hopefully that helps some but if you don't care for my answers, just wait and
read other messages pertaining to your questions.

How do you change VoiceOver and leave the Siri voice where you want it? I
thought once you changed Siri, that would be the same for VoiceOver.

Re: Siri problem

2020-06-28 Thread Diane Giannetti
No, Siri and voiceover are two different things. With voiceover we need to go
into settings and go into voice over and then speech and I have not done this
in a long time, but I know there’s something to do with language and all that
and changing voices with voiceover. Maybe somebody can be a little bit more
clearer than I am at this point. But I know that’s where you go. LOL.

This is only true if you have the cellular model of the watch and it is
activated with your carrier.

If you have a series 3 watch and later, you don't have to worry about making
and answering calls, nor receiving and answering text messages. I purposely
don't always carry my phone everywhere I go. For fear that I might give you
the wrong answer about the now playing screen, someone else can answer that
for you. I know how I would get rid of something myself if I don't want it
on the screen. When you get a phone call, you answer it like you do your
phone by tapping twice with two fingers. At least that's how I do it. If you
get a text message, go to messages and double tap on that and there's reply,
dictate and scribble. I get suggestions of what to say in response. i also
believe there's handwriting too but since I don't use that, I don't worry
about that.
Hopefully that helps some but if you don't care for my answers, just wait
and read other messages pertaining to your questions.

Hello everyone,

I have a few more questions, regarding the Apple watch. I try to look most
things up, or find out on my own. But sometimes I read so much I just feel
a bit overwhelmed.

Ok first of all, if I were to accidentally leave my phone at home, when I
go out, can I still access the watch? Could I still respond to texts, and
make and answer a call?

Sometimes when I go out, I have a tendency to forget my phone. It doesn't
happen always. Which is good. But it would be nice to know that I could
still reach out, if I needed to do so.

Also, is there a way to get the now playing screen to stop coming up on my
watch?

When I play music over my iPhone, or something within Voicedream, this
screen keeps popping up.

Is there a way to stop this?

I think this is all for now. Again, any help is appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

best case plus bluetooth keyboard for iPad

I think I may have asked this question before, but I thought I would try again.

I have a 7th generation iPad 10inch, and I want to get a cover to
protect it and I would also like a bluetooth keyboard for it. My plan
is to use it as much as possible to replace my laptop for work for
things like email, slack, and some development work.

I would appreciate any reccommendations on a case with keyboard
combination that is easy to use and where there are no accessibility
issues with the keyboard like visual menus/lights that need to be seen
to properly pair the devices.

Re: Siri problem

2020-06-28 Thread Richard Turner
I agree with your rant; and I'll add my own.
VoiceOver is free.
You get amazing accessibility, and it does not cost a cent more.
Bugs exist in all software, get over it.
If you use a Windows computer, you have to spend a heck of a lot more for good
accessibility; and there are bugs there too.
And, while I'm on the subject, the free screen readers for Windows do not hold
a candle to VoiceOver on the iPhones or iPads.

moving files in onedrive

2020-06-28 Thread Donald Raikes
Hi all,

I just installed microsoft oneDrive onto my iPhone.

I have a number of files in the root folder of onedrive that I want to
move into a folder.

I created the folder, but when I flick down on one of the items in the
root folder, and select drag then move to the new folder I can't
figure out how to drop it there. I set the rotor to actions and flick
up/down but there are no choices presented.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Don

Re: moving files in onedrive

2020-06-28 Thread Jennie Facer
Hi Don,

I just successfully moved a file from the root drive to a folder. Here is what
I did:

1. Place focus on the file you want to move.
2. Flick up to drag and double tap
3. Place focus on the folder you want it to go into but don't double tap on it.
4. Flick down to drop on folder and double tap.
5. There will be a dialog box that pops up asking you if you want to move this
message. Swipe right and double tap on move.

Hope this helps,

Jenn

Re: moving files in onedrive

2020-06-28 Thread Richard Turner
Try this.
Touch the file you want to drag/move.
Flick down with one finger to drag item and double tap.
Now, touch the folder where you want it.
Flick down again with one finger to drop item here or something like that,
double tap and you will be asked if you want to move it.

Re: Siri problem

2020-06-28 Thread Devin Prater
To a point, we should be grateful. But we must also ask, politely I may add,
for more. Keep in mind that the accessibility team at Apple aren’t bots,
although they have responses that they give rather automatically because they
*cannot* say more at the time. But they *do* want our feedback, positive or
negative. They want to help us do even more with our devices. So don't feel
like you just have to pray to Saint Jobs and hope they fix the mail focus bug.
Give them feedback if you want something. Show your gratitude, if you’d like to
think of it in this way, by telling them what could be better. I assure you,
Apple won’t delete your VoiceOver off your phone for asking.

RE: Siri problem

2020-06-28 Thread chaltain
I also find myself scratching my head sometimes over the things people complain
about and finding out what people hate. That being said, we we’re paying the
same amount of money for our iPhones that sighted people are paying, and that
means we have the same right they do to ask for changes and enhancements.
iPhones are not cheap, and we’re talking about features Apple puts on the phone
and brags about, so although we can appreciate those features we should never
settle or stop asking for improvements. The best way to have bugs hang around
release after release is to not report them.

I also don’t agree with the statement that the free screen readers for Windows
can’t hold a candle to VoiceOver on the iPhones or iPads. It’s true I’m not
using Narrator on a smart phone, but on my PC, I find NVDA and Narrator more
than hold their own.

I am posting this here on behalf of someone who participates in a WhatsApp

Samantha voice as her voice over voice. And she says that more than once, when
she’s reading a Voice Dream book, the voice over voice will start reading along
with her sharing voice. Not exactly what she wanted. She does have the latest

I have Jaws on my computer and personally, I don't have a problem with it at
all. Can you change the pitch in typing mode in settings because I didn't find
that anywhere. I decided to go with Tom. That voice sounds more human than some
of the rest. At least if I get tired of it, I can change it to something
different and glad to have that option.

Re: [VoiceDreamProducts] Voice over voice reading in voice dream reader at the same time as the chosen text to speech voice

2020-06-28 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
A very easy fix for this, is just before beginning to read the book
with voice dream reader, to turn off the voice over speech then do a 2

RE: More Apple watch questions, yet again

2020-06-28 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Hi Terry,

If you have the standard gps watch then no messages and emails etc wont come
through if you are away from the phone.

However if you have the LTE watch then yes constant communication should
continue as you have a full time LTE mobile data connection,

I'm nt sure about phone calls though.

Note that once your GPS watch comes back in to signal range with the phone it
will start receiving the back log of messages and associated data.

But things like activity tracking etc will keep working if you're away from
your phone

Subject: More Apple watch questions, yet again

Hello everyone,

I have a few more questions, regarding the Apple watch. I try to look most
things up, or find out on my own. But sometimes I read so much I just feel a
bit overwhelmed.

Ok first of all, if I were to accidentally leave my phone at home, when I go
out, can I still access the watch? Could I still respond to texts, and make and
answer a call?

Sometimes when I go out, I have a tendency to forget my phone. It doesn't
happen always. Which is good. But it would be nice to know that I could still
reach out, if I needed to do so.

Also, is there a way to get the now playing screen to stop coming up on my
watch?

When I play music over my iPhone, or something within Voicedream, this screen
keeps popping up.

Is there a way to stop this?

I think this is all for now. Again, any help is appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

RE: best case plus bluetooth keyboard for iPad

2020-06-28 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Have a look at the apple website and see if there is an apple smart keyboard
for your model iPad,

I know most of them now take a smart keyboard.

Hi all,

I think I may have asked this question before, but I thought I would try again.
\
I have a 7th generation iPad 10inch, and I want to get a cover to protect it
and I would also like a bluetooth keyboard for it. My plan is to use it as
much as possible to replace my laptop for work for things like email, slack,
and some development work.

I would appreciate any reccommendations on a case with keyboard combination
that is easy to use and where there are no accessibility issues with the
keyboard like visual menus/lights that need to be seen to properly pair the
devices.

RE: Siri problem

2020-06-28 Thread Simon A Fogarty
And Richard, as I’m also a major windows user,

The free side of voiceover being part of the apple device package is a major
draw card for users of adaptive tech that can afford it.

And although voiceover isn’t perfect for everythings,
Neither is jaws,
I was meant to be able to use a number of systems at work that jaws was not
able to access due to both design failures from the developers of both
platforms,

Mac os however could do things that jaws couldn’t.apple and it’s developers
think about what their custoemrs require when developing applications,

Windows application developers don’t because they don’t talk to customers /
users

I agree with your rant; and I'll add my own.
VoiceOver is free.
You get amazing accessibility, and it does not cost a cent more.
Bugs exist in all software, get over it.
If you use a Windows computer, you have to spend a heck of a lot more for good
accessibility; and there are bugs there too.
And, while I'm on the subject, the free screen readers for Windows do not hold
a candle to VoiceOver on the iPhones or iPads.

period. Apple has made it nice for us although thereare bugs. There will always

For some reason Siri has quit speaking. I have tried pressing the volume up

What else can I try to get her speaking again? I am using the latest iOS update

Thanks,
