That sounds good, will have to check it out.

Does anyone know of an accessible tool to either check your speed test, or an
Internet optomizer that works well with Jaws?

Re: my iphone stopped working on my wifi

2020-08-05 Thread Diane Giannetti
We have lost our power also. Not back yet. Thank God Gail and George went out
and got some coffee for us. Anyhow, I just want the people involved in taking
care of our electricity to be safe and make sure all is OK before everything
Goes on. It’s frustrating for us but it’s got to be more frustrating for them.

2020-08-05 Thread Esther

Hey, Diane! That's great that George went out for coffee for you guys. I'll
bet the restaurants were really crowded. I made myself a cup of tea, as my
water heater is run by gas. Good thing I don't run by gas! Hahaha! If I eat
too many beans I might! Anyway, hope we get power soon. I'm calling
Eversource "Neversource!" Take care.

Orbit Writer and Pairing Devices

2020-08-05 Thread Les Kriegler
Hi All,

There has been some discussion on pairing devices to the Orbit Writer. While
I haven't received my unit, it's due any day now, I've been studying the
manual and would like to offer a clarification that could easily be
confusing. Let's say you wish to pair a device to the Writer on Bluetooth
Channel 2. You would activate the channel by pressing Space Left Arrow and
Dot 2. Now, here's what I believe can be confusing. The manual indicates
that you should press the same key combination "to pair." This actually
places the channel into Pairing Mode. You then have to use your device's
Bluetooth search function to actually connect the device. I realize the
manual does describe that process. At first, I was confused because I'm
accustomed to using the term Pairing Mode which the manual does not indicate
in those words. Perhaps this is obvious to everyone else, but people who are
new to pairing devices could be thrown off by this. I also realize that the
biggest adjustment I will have is depending on haptic feedback for all
Writer System events. I've never done this, I've always depended on a
combination of speech and braille. So there will be a learning curve here.

Best Regards,

Les

Closing Apps On The SE 2020:

Open apps is pretty obvious. When you're done though and want to close the
app to reduce the amount of battery drain, how do you do this?

Thanks in advance.

It works the same as the iPhone 8. Double tap the home button and it should
say app switcher. Then do a three finger swipe up to clear the ones that are
there.

Alexa app and adding an account

2020-08-05 Thread Lelia Struve
Hey everyone, so I am trying to as the subject says, add an account to another
device. In other words, someone has an account and I wanna add my account to
theirs. How do I do that on the Alexa app? I looked it up on google, but it
says to go to the menu first and there is no longer a menu. Any help would be
greatly appreciated thank you

Hi everyone,
Hope all of you are well despite this whole covid19 situation. I just have a
question about the orbit writer. Is the orbit writer free for members of the
talking library?
If so, how do you all request one?
Did any of you get the device when participating in the national convention?
I am considering getting one since I want a more portable braille display to
always carry in my purse and keep up with reading braille.
I have the focus40 from freedom scientific even though it’s not the latest
generation, but it works well for me.
I mostly keep it at home since I use it with my Mac computer and it helps me
still read braille.
What has been your experience with the orbit writer? And is their a difference
between the orbit reader and orbit writer? If so, what is the difference?

I can be reached out at garcesp...@gmail.com

The orbit writer is NOT a Braille display. It is a perkins-style keyboard to

Yes, you have to use VoiceOver Braille settings to do the pairing.
It is seen as the Orbit Reader 20 with its serial number right now.
That may change in iOS 14, I hope.

Hi All,

There has been some discussion on pairing devices to the Orbit Writer. While I
haven’t received my unit, it’s due any day now, I’ve been studying the manual
and would like to offer a clarification that could easily be confusing. Let’s
say you wish to pair a device to the Writer on Bluetooth Channel 2. You would
activate the channel by pressing Space Left Arrow and Dot 2. Now, here’s what I
believe can be confusing. The manual indicates that you should press the same
key combination “to pair.” This actually places the channel into Pairing Mode.
You then have to use your device’s Bluetooth search function to actually
connect the device. I realize the manual does describe that process. At first,
I was confused because I’m accustomed to using the term Pairing Mode which the
manual does not indicate in those words. Perhaps this is obvious to everyone
else, but people who are new to pairing devices could be thrown off by this. I
also realize that the biggest adjustment I will have is depending on haptic
feedback for all Writer System events. I’ve never done this, I’ve always
depended on a combination of speech and braille. So there will be a learning
curve here.
Best Regards,

Les

This usually means that you have a message that you sent to somebody that did
not get delivered. Do you have to go into your Messages app find one that has
the alert and you can dismiss it by tapping on it. Hope this helps.

Hi List,

I upgraded Outlook for iOS a day or two ago and am running version 4.49.1 of
the app. When I opened my inbox today, I noticed that the vertical scrollbar
for moving through the message list quickly is no longer present. Is anyone
else experiencing this issue? I've started a Support thread with Microsoft but
wanted to also check here.

Microsoft has asked me to take a screen shot and send it to them. Can anyone
who is more experienced with screen shots than I remind me how to do this?

Thanks in advance for your help.

RE: Alexa app and adding an account

2020-08-05 Thread Alan Lemly
Lelia,

I'm a bit confused by your post because you mention something about adding an
account to an account which doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Are you trying
to use the Alexa app to open a new account, add a device to an existing
account, or something else? You're correct that the menu button which used to
be in the upper left corner of the app appears to be gone but if you execute
the More button which is at the far right of the bottomline toolbar, I believe
the options which used to come up under menu now appear there.

Re: Alexa app and adding an account

2020-08-05 Thread Richard Turner
In the app, after activating More, then settings, this is what you get under
Guest Connect.

GUEST CONNECT

Let friends and family connect their Alexa account to your compatible Echo
devices for their music and news. After 24 hours, your guest will need to
reconnect.

Allow

HOW TO USE

1. Ask your guest to say,
"Alexa, connect my account."
2. Alexa will ask for their phone number.
3. To disconnect a guest, say,
"Alexa, disconnect account."

To listen to your music and news when visiting
friends, go to Guest Connect in Your Profile.

2020-08-05 Thread Esther
Hey, Reggie! Thanks for the encouragement. They say it could take up to a
week for our power to come back. I am planning on putting in a claim to my
house insurance company for the food I have lost in my fridge and freezer
combination. Anyway, take care and it was so nice of you to write! At least
the weather here has calmed down and it's lovely!

2020-08-05 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Hi Keeton,

I'm not sure about vpns for you but is there no BBc or related sports station
available to you?

I'm surprised india blocks cricket as it's your biggest religion.

I've even spoken to some Indians here in new Zealand that support india over
the nz black caps which I was horrified to hear.

I'm sure people will have suggestions and I'll have a look from this end also.

Good luck.

I have to admit I’m not a braille user but is this device not simply a braille

Les

Best,

Priscilla

and would like to offer a clarification that could easily be confusing. Let’s
say you wish to pair a device to the Writer on Bluetooth Channel 2. You would
activate the channel by pressing Space Left Arrow and Dot 2.

Les

Yes, you have to use VoiceOver Braille settings to do the pairing.
It is seen as the Orbit Reader 20 with its serial number right now.
That may change in iOS 14, I hope.

Sandy, are you successful pairing then reconnecting more than one device?

My initial few thoughts on this experience are I loved the price point of the
Braille Writer. I like using the center joystick to interact with my phone. The
braille input though, isn’t thrilling me, and I am learning how much I liked
the reading side of a braille display. I didn’t realize that.

Simon,
If a keyboard is using the braille layout, IE, 6 dots, plus a backspace, which
is considered dot 7, and an enter key, which is considered dot 8; it has to be
paired as a braille device because it does not have the standard QWERTY keys.
You have to press 1 to 6 keys at the same time to make letters, and/or
contractions, and computer braille uses all 8 dots.
So it has to be run by a screen reader.
A standard keyboard does not depend on a screen reader with braille translation
tables.
I hope that helps.
In short, you have to know braille to use the keyboard.

Hi,

Is your understanding we pair the Orbit Writer under iPhone bluetooth, not
VoiceOver Braille?

Thanks,
Traci

Here you go Simon. The link below will take you to the documentation page where
you could grab the manual in different formats.

Simon,
If a keyboard is using the braille layout, IE, 6 dots, plus a backspace, which
is considered dot 7, and an enter key, which is considered dot 8; it has to be
paired as a braille device because it does not have the standard QWERTY keys.
If you are still wanting to read more, search for Orbit Writer documentation
and you should find a link to the Orbit Research page.
If not, I or someone else can dig up the link for you.
HTH,

Yes, you have to use VoiceOver Braille settings to do the pairing.
It is seen as the Orbit Reader 20 with its serial number right now.
That may change in iOS 14, I hope.

It’s my understanding that the manual states you go to voiceover braille to do
the actual pairing and connecting.

Hi Janet,

The first control in control Center Settings is access Within Apps. If you turn
that off by double-tapping it, you should be able to play your games without
activating it.

Best,
Anna
