I wrong. There is a subscription button under My Account through the App Store.
I always got there through the main settings.
Sory about that.

Paul,

I'll add to Richard's comments. Double tap on the App Store home screen button.
In the upper right corner of the screen that opens should be a My account
button which you should double tap. On the screen which opens, you should be
able to swipe to subscriptions and double tap and review any subscribed apps.

RE: Accessible electronic password managers being used?

2020-08-15 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Password managers are a lot more than just places where passwords are stored,
most good ones can also store longer notes, they can generate random passwords
and best of all they can auto-fill user name and password information on web
pages and log you in. Not only are your passwords protected by a master
password, but all data is also encrypted which would not be the case if you
just put them into an Excel file.

Shirley,

I'm not going to pretend to understand all the features offered by the various
password manager apps and programs. I will say that I don't like any software
doing things for me automatically. I use my KeePass password manager by
remembering its master password and whenever I go to a site or app that
requires a password, I sign into KeePass, look up the applicable entry, and
copy and paste its password to the requesting site from KeePass. I also make

Accessibility is pretty crap for most of those apps. Also hitting up

RE: Accessible electronic password managers being used?

2020-08-15 Thread Alan Lemly
I agree that vertical navigation in the rotor makes moving through an Excel
sheet on the iPhone much easier. I assume Excel will prompt you for the
password if you attempt to open a protected spreadsheet with it.

I much prefer accessing my KeePass passwords with the KeePass touch app on my
iPhone. I can do a quick search by name of what I need, swipe to the password
field, and double tap to copy it for quick pasting to wherever it is needed.

to use a pass word to unlock an Excel file on the iPhone.

Marty,

You could use Excel to keep your passwords but I'll caution you that Excel's
passwords aren't that secure. Also, I don't think Navigating an Excel
spreadsheet on a mobile device would be nearly as easy as with an app designed
to manage passwords. If either of these issues aren't a problem for you, Excel
is much better than managing them manually.

Then when you go back to that website again, will it give you a new password?
All websites don't seem to use these password managers so far as I know.
I'm confused about how to use these password managers. I used it on instacart

Paul,

I'll add to Richard's comments. Double tap on the App Store home screen button.
In the upper right corner of the screen that opens should be a My account
button which you should double tap. On the screen which opens, you should be
able to swipe to subscriptions and double tap and review any subscribed apps.

spreadsheet on a mobile device would be nearly as easy as with an app designed
to manage passwords. If either of these issues aren't a problem for you, Excel
is much better than managing them manually.

I also make
sure if the site is new and requires registration that I set up an entry for it
in my KeePass database.

Is it true that when you use one of these password managers, you don't have to
remember your password? If that is correct, once you go to a website that asks
for your password and you don't know what it is, how do you enter a new one?
Then when you go back to that website again, will it give you a new password?
All websites don't seem to use these password managers so far as I know.
I'm confused about how to use these password managers. I used it on instacart
but I never logged out since I don't know what my password is and am afraid I
won't be able to get another one or don't know how to get one using the manager.

Hi Sieghard,

Thank you for the feedback. Yes, I figured and was hoping that it would be more
or less set up and forget about it, but as I hadn’t bought one previously… A
sound indicator is good enough for me app or no app.

Appreciate the detailed response.

Cristobal,

Any UPS I have ever had started beeping when the power went out. I should of
course mention that APC is all I ever buy.

I really don't think there is much to worry regarding accessibility, this is
one you don't have to over-think, plug your computer and whatever else is
important, e.g. modem/router, your speaker etc. into the UPS and if the power
goes out the battery kicks in and your devices continue to have power.

A UPS in my opinion is not necessarily meant to continue to run your equipment
for a long time, typically you have an outage which is resolved quickly or you
have one which is going on for hours and hours and in that case really all the
UPS is there for is for you to finish whatever you are doing so you can
properly shut everything down and to protect your stuff from power surges. I
use APC BackUPS850 units for all my workstations at work although I have just
bought another much more expensive APC Smart UPS 1500 which I am using at the
point in my business where all my networking equipment sits, e.g. my router and
switch. I have a 24-port Cisco switch which includes 12 POE ports and I am just
about to move into a new building I bought a few months ago and which I have
been renovating and one of the new things is a Voip phone system from a company
called 3CX. This includes an appliance provided by them which does all the
thinking, but we'll use my existing Cisco switch to plug in the 4 or 5 phones I
will have in the building so obviously it will be nice if the internet and the
phone system remains functional for maybe an hour or 2. I used to have an APC
Smart UPS 1500 as well as an even larger Smart UPS 2200 which is the size of a
desktop tower and which ways almost 100 pounds, but in all honesty I find that
this was overkill. The Smart UPS 1500 I just bought costs about $600 Canadian
Dollars and it apparently has some sort of cloud connectivity and app support,
but I haven't hooked it up yet so I can't say much to its functionality and
accessibility. But like I said, as long as maybe it sends out a notification
that the power is out that's good enough for me.

Also, just FYI, all the smaller APC BackUPS models I bought have one row of
outlets which have surge protection only, they are not on battery backup, the
other row has both surge protection and battery backup. Things like your
printer should not be plugged into battery backup as they can draw a lot of
power and having them on surge protection is good enough. All of the new
BackUPS units also have at least 2 USB ports which you can use to charge your
iPhone or other USB devices in case of a power outage.

Best regards,

Sieghard

Subject: ISO an accessible UPS for a home office

Hello list,

So, because I’m a procrastinator, while I’ve been meaning to get one, I haven’t
yet. Naturally, Southern California is going through a major heatwave and
rolling blackouts are a real possibility. I hope to be better prepared next
time… I’m looking to buy a UPS for my home office. There are enough review
sites out there, but before I buy one, I was wondering if anyone is aware of an
accessible model. Either out of the box or a smart device capability. I.E. iOS
app or web interface of some sort. By out of the box, I mean even something
that gives any sort of audible feedback.

I was think of the APC 1500VA UPS Battery Backup

& Surge Protector with AVR, Back-UPS Pro Uninterruptible Power Supply (BR1500G)

Or

CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD PFC Sinewave UPS System, 1500VA/1000W, 12 Outlets, AVR,
Mini Tower

I’m open to other models as well if there’s in fact something that can provide
an accessible user experience. I need something that I can plug my modem,
router and a few PC towers into and can last more than five or ten minutes.
While I’m not looking to drop like $1000 or $2000 on a unit, I don’t mind
paying for something that may be a little overkill for my setup.

Any recommendations or real user feedback on what may work or what to stay away
from would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Cristóbal

If you already have the app, you paid $4.99 for it.
It could be that you could choose not to subscribe and get the Fantastical 2
features for free.
You would just have to wait and turn down the subscribe offer, or cancel after
starting the trial if it shows up under subscriptions.

If you download FantastiCal now, you get a free trial and then have to
subscribe. Sounds like if you already have the app, you don't have to
subscribe, which doesn't seem all that fair.

RE: Accessible electronic password managers being used?

2020-08-15 Thread Alan Lemly

I also make
sure if the site is new and requires registration that I set up an entry for it
in my KeePass database.

Hi List,

I'm preparing a presentation for late September where I'll discuss electronic

any others that folks are successfully using. The only criteria is that they be
accessible and work both with a computer and a portable device. Another person
will be presenting on 1Password so if anyone can offer other recommendations
meeting my criteria, I would very much appreciate it.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you might have.

Subject: Orbit Writer Review

After a couple of days with the Writer following the firmware update on
August 13, 2020, I am extremely happy with this lovely little

device. So long as you remember to have the iPhone or iPad locked when
you turn on the writer, it has no trouble reconnecting to whatever devices
it had been paired with.

I am only going to address the Bluetooth with Apple devices as the USB
connection to a computer has a little way to go.

With keyboard echo set to characters, I am having no trouble at all
writing and editing with the Writer.

I am finding responsiveness of the keyboard to be excellent. At least
with iOS 14 public beta 4. all of the braille commands work very well.

The Command, Shift, d to send an email, for example.

If you press space+dot7,1, then immediately press space+dot7,4 then
quickly press the letter d, an email will be sent.

I sometimes have to do that twice, but I think that is because I was not
quite fast enough.

Navigating with the rotor works as expected.

this is much better for me than doing the on-screen braille.

The Writer is so small and light I am taking it everywhere with me.

Just my experience, but I hope others are finding the same.

RE: Orbit Writer Review

2020-08-15 Thread Richard Turner
No automatic switching.
So, I have my new SE on channel 1, and I paired my old SE on channel 2, and my
work iPHone on channel 3.
If I want to switch to my old SE, I would press space, plus left arrow, plus
dot 2 and I would get 2 short vibrations if the iPhone is locked, which is what
should happen, then when I unlock the old SE, after a couple of seconds, the
Writer will now be active with that phone.

I hope that helps,

Richard

  Subject: Orbit Writer Review

After a couple of days with the Writer following the firmware update on
August 13, 2020, I am extremely happy with this lovely little

device. So long as you remember to have the iPhone or iPad locked when you
turn on the writer, it has no trouble reconnecting to whatever devices it
had been paired with.

I am only going to address the Bluetooth with Apple devices as the USB
connection to a computer has a little way to go.

With keyboard echo set to characters, I am having no trouble at all
writing and editing with the Writer.

I am finding responsiveness of the keyboard to be excellent. At least with
iOS 14 public beta 4. all of the braille commands work very well.

Rungo was: Re: Lazarillo: A Very Excellent Free Accessible GPS Navigation Solution

2020-08-15 Thread William Windels
Hello,
I was looking for a gps-app that could read offline gpx-files with
voice-instructions and I red that rungo has voiceover support.
So, I downloaded rungo and I imported a gpx-file.
Here, in Switserland, 4g is very expensive so, I tried to have gps-navigation
based on the gpx-file and without internet.
When I started the voice to guide my on the way, the app is crashing.
I took also a subscription for a month with more options but the program was
still crashing.
I am not shore if the crashing problem is caused by voiceover but I think not.

All hints are very welkome.

thx in advance, william

 Hello Everyone,

Last week I was searching for a free GPS navigation solution for my new
 Galaxy S10 Plus.

One requirement was that the app must be able to automatically announce
cross streets without having a specific destination designated.

In iOS I use both Seeing Eye GPS XT (my preferred solution) and Nearby
Explorer when I want automatic cross street announcements.

Although Google maps is extremely useful in the latest version of Android,
it does not offer the automatic cross street announcement feature as
described above. As yet, I have never used Google Maps for iOS.

Someone on an Android list suggested that I download Lazarillo for Android.
It was exactly what I needed and worked marvelously well. I was so
surprised that a free solution existed.

This morning, I learned that Lazarillo can also be downloaded from the
 Apple
 App Store.

So, I am posting the Lazarillo for iOS information below. As yet, I have
not yet taken the iOS / iPad OS version out for a test spin, so to speak,
 so
any and all feedback would be greatly appreciated.

 Enjoy,

 Mark

Lazarillo - Accessible GPS for blind and low vision

 Developer: Rene Espinoza

 Free

LazarilloApp the GPS for people who are blind or have low vision, lets you
explore the world around you and set up routes.

Lazarillo is a specialized GPS app that brings mobility tools for people
 who
are blind. Using audio messages, Lazarillo will tell you about nearby
 places,

the street you are walking on, street intersections in your way and more!
Like a radio, Lazarillo will announce the things around you while you are
 moving.

This app was designed and implemented with active feedback from people who
 are blind.

The GPS resource is used even if the App is in the background. This allows
the user to keep using the app without active usage of the screen, so they
 can

still enjoy the features of Lazarillo even when their phone is in their
pocket or when using other relevant apps.

Note : "Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically
 decrease battery life."

This app allows you to use its accessibility functions for free, just
requires mobile data or a Wi-Fi connection.

To collaborate with people who are blind, Lazarillo's main feature is to
become the user's companion, providing essential information that allows
 displacement and autonomy.

The goal is to help the person reach the chosen place in a simple way,
receiving Lazarillo indications by voice and notifications of nearby
 places,
 institutions,

shops, etc, allowing communication between the user and the city.

The app contains the following features:

Exploration: Provides your actual position, nearby places, and street
intersections while you are walking on the street, in a bus or by car.

Category searches: Allows to find nearby places from a specific category
such as banks, health, food, shop, art, entertainment, etc.

Specific searches: Allows to find a route to any place using voice or
 keyboard.

 Help information:

Lazarillo provides information about establishments that work with blind or
visually impaired people. The app is linked to a web platform where

accessible for voiceover and also braille.
Do you have any suggestions or recommendations, for accessible apps with voice
over and braille on iphone or apple watch?

Fitdays App & Accessibility

2020-08-15 Thread Bill Gallik
Looking for some advice concerning a supposedly iPhone accessible scale. It
requires the Fitdays app to communicate with the iPhone. But when I try to
create an account I cannot find a “procede” button of any kind after filling my
user ID and preferred password.

Can anybody offer any advice?

Has anybody on this list had experience this scale and app.
