Subject: Question About the Alarm on iOS 13, probably 14, too

When the alarm goes off and I reach over to stop it, clicking the POWER
button on my 10S Max only sets the snooze time, which is set to a very
odd nine minutes. I always have to unlock the phone and tell Siri to
cancel the alarm. What's the gesture to really stop it from going off
again after the snooze period?

TIA

RE: Accessible thermometer

2020-10-24 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I highly recommend the Withings Thermo, might be now th eNokia Thermo since
they bought Withings.
The app is easy to use, if I want to take my temperature I just push the button
on the thermometer, it vibrates and at that point I know it's ready, move it
from the middle of your forehead to your temple holding it so it doesn't
actually touch the skin and that's it.
It's a WiFi connected device so once it's connected it's good to go, I usually
just wait for a bit and after maybe 30 seconds or so a notification pops up
with the reading, I can tap on that and then the app opens and I can assign it
to myself (you can set up multiple people and assign readings to them).

Andy, I just purchased a speaker from Tribet which I really think gives
some

of the bose speakers a run for the money. It was either the storm box or
box storm. It has surround sound, is waterproof, and easy to distinguish
controls. It gives a series of beeps from low to high when powered on and
vv when off. The blue tooth pairing uses two tones to help u know when
device is successfully paired. You can adjust the bass (add bass or take
it

away). I caught it on sale from amazon for somewhere in the $50 price
range. I have successfully paired it with the original apple SE phone.
Hope that helps.

disabling image recognition iphone8+ iOS14.1

2020-10-24 Thread Shai
Hello,
When in an app such as Sirusxm, I am noticing that VoiceOver is
describing the image as clock. When I am in the Google app image is
described as mike for microphone which interferes with my speaking to
Google assistant on my phone. I feel that these descriptions are not
relevant to me and I would like to disable it so that I have a similar
experience to previous iOS versions.
Is there a way to disable these descriptions? At the moment I have
gone into settings/accessibility/voiceover and set the navigate images
setting to never, but it seems that there should be another means of
doing this because now in photos for example I can not navigate by
flicking across the images in my library the only means of navigating
is to explore by touch.
I know that there is an image recognition setting but I understand
that this setting is for iphone10s and later or second generation se.
Thank you in advance for any responses.

You can set manually the first alarm and after ask Siri to modify it. Manually
you will be able to choose snooz or not.

When the alarm goes off and I reach over to stop it, clicking the POWER
button on my 10S Max only sets the snooze time, which is set to a very odd
nine minutes. I always have to unlock the phone and tell Siri to cancel
the alarm. What's the gesture to really stop it from going off again after
 the snooze period?

Re: Answering iPhone

2020-10-24 Thread Michael Irons
Hello everyone I use a pair of Bluetooth headphones to answer the phone. They
are LG Bluetooth headphones. When a call comes in I press the button on the
right hand side of the headphones answer the phone. The same button also in the
Call. The neck band on the headphones vibrates. So you don’t always have to
have the headphones in your ear.

2020-10-24 Thread Robin
Interesting, as I thought Apple'sSiri could
Read EMailMessages. Thought this would have been
Possible since Apple Controls the Hardware & Software.
Samsung'sBixby (i.e.,
Samsung'sPersonalAssistant) can Read
EMailMessages, TextMessages, etc etc. & ON
Samsung's Galaxy MobilePhones
the AutomaticAnswer is only Activated when
Connected to either a BlueToothHeadset or a WiredHeadset

Not my first choice.
Otherwise I think voiceover gesture is the only
way unless he can learn where to touch his
finger and slide to answer without voiceover.

Sadly, Siri will not read emails.
I suppose you could try turning on speak screen,
but he would have to be able to open the email
first, and that does not sound possible. So I
would write Apple accessibility as well as call
them and ask about getting Siri to read emails.
This is the one feature that it should've had
from the start and is stupid in my opinion that it does not.

If you are using windows 10, go to the App Store on windows and download
iCloud. I think you can just type iCloud on the start menu and you should be
able to download it. You will then have to sign in with your Apple ID and

Making sure about specific backups

2020-10-24 Thread Jim Portillo
Hi everyone,

Here's the deal. I'm about to upgrade to the new iPhone 12; however, I have
an issue. I'm using Downcast right now for my podcasts, which I have not
finished listening to yet. It would take me a while to finish, so I want to
make sure they are backed up.

When this happened a few years ago, I thought things had backed up from
Downcast, but they hadn't. How do I make sure about this before the upgrade?
Are there specific settings that will actually redownload my specific
podcasts?

The general stuff is turned on, but I'm skeptical!

If anyone knows, please share.

Also, you will find that often the buttons in an app that you are used to being

That is certainly true with mail and safari.
I much prefer the iPhone because I have no vision and find the extra screen
size is wasted on me.
But, that is just me.
I know other totally blind people who love the iPad, especially for the better

I find the easiest way is to open photos.
Double tap on the one you want to share.
Then flick right until you find the share button, select mail, and then enter
the to field, and fill in the rest of the email subject and body.
Then send it.
The other way is to start the email, then at the bottom if you are using iOS
14, there is a button to attach a photo.
If using iOS 13, turn the rotor to edit, and flick up untip you find insert
photo or add photo, something like that.

Hi Jenn,
I’m seeing this a bit late, but have you tried to repair Office? I’ve seen this
problem before. I believe that’s what I had to do to get the error to stop.
Also Office 365.

Re: any tips on using Ipads

2020-10-24 Thread Daniel MacDonald
One thing about iPads versus iPhones is they employ split screen views. On
iPads, open settings and you’ll find differences. The setting names are on the
left, and content for them is on the right. Also, the iPads have spassific apps
which do not run on iPhones. They can be used for drawing with the Apple
Pencil. They have bigger batteries than iPhones, and it makes more sense to use
keyboards with them, as iPads are self-contained in one unit if a keyboard kace
is used, where as iPhones, the easiest way to use a keyboard with an iPhone is
to have a separate one and the iPhone. Braille screen input is makes for a much
better experience, as the screen has more real-estate for your fingers in that
way of typing. Also iPadOS is more optimized for keyboard use, as it has more
commands than iOS.
Regards,
Daniel

getting documents from GoogleDox

Hello Listers,

Several places I get weekly files from are using GoogleDox, and I can't seem to
be able to sign in to get the documents they send. I enter my e-mail address
and I'm told it's invalid, and they want me to set up an account. Any
suggestions for retrieving documents from GoogleDox? Thanks in advance for any
help with this.

Hi all,

I got my new Ipad today.  It is my first

definitely setup differently than my Iphones.  It sure seems

Thanks for any ideas.

Re: Question About the Alarm on iOS 13, probably 14, too

2020-10-24 Thread Richard Turner
Oddly enough, The clocck app has no settings under the iPhone settings.
So, if you use Siri, you might try wording a command that says without a snooze
time or something.
Or just set them manually in the Clock app.

himself,” and we forget that only grace can break the cycle of ancient hatreds

I have not checked to see if in 14 there is an option to not have snooze be the
default.

When the alarm goes off and I reach over to stop it, clicking the POWER button
on my 10S Max only sets the snooze time, which is set to a very odd nine
minutes. I always have to unlock the phone and tell Siri to cancel the alarm.
What's the gesture to really stop it from going off again after the snooze
period?

The Home Button or gesture will stop the alarm.

Re: Question About the Alarm on iOS 13, probably 14, too

2020-10-24 Thread Duane Steele
Steve, I have an iPhone 8 using iOS 13. When my alarm goes off, without
touching the power button, if I just swipe right with one finger, voiceOver
says snooze or if y swipe again, it will say stop. double-tap which choice you
want and that should work for you.

Peace & Blessings,
Pastor Duane L. Steele

Question About the Alarm on iOS 13, probably 14, too

2020-10-24 Thread Steve Matzura
When the alarm goes off and I reach over to stop it, clicking the POWER
button on my 10S Max only sets the snooze time, which is set to a very
odd nine minutes. I always have to unlock the phone and tell Siri to
cancel the alarm. What's the gesture to really stop it from going off
again after the snooze period?

TIA
