Re: Supersense: Responding to Some of Your Bug Reports

2021-01-06 Thread Richard Turner
Thanks Shane. The update came out today. However, there is still a bit of a bit
of a bug with the speech engine. When you flick right with one finger through
the list, it stops after about 8 or so. Then, you have to do a three finger
swipe up to get the rest of the voice choices.
It should scroll automatically as you flick right through the list.
But, you can now change voice and then go back to Samantha if you want.
Thank you.

RE: Is It Possible to Set Up an iPad out of the Box without Any Sighted Assistance?

2021-01-06 Thread Mervin Keck
I have set up both an iPad Mini 4 and an iPad Pro 2018 out of the box. I have
also set up several watches, iPhones, and a MacBook air out of the box. I have
a new MacBook Pro coming in a few weeks with the M1 chip and I am anticipating
setting that up out of the box as well. Soon my journey back to the land of all
things Apple will be complete.

Yeah,

I've had no sighted assistance setting up any of my apple products.

Three clicks on the home or power buttons at start up will turn voiceover on.

Hello,

Kind of a followup to my recent inquiry, if my Life Partner decides to get an
iPad, is it possible to set one up without any sighted assistance?

The problem is that we are having a very hard time right now getting an
appointment at the Apple store, where they would normally do that for a blind
customer. So basically, we would be having to get it running from square one.

My Life Partner has a very limited amount of partial vision, and I have none at
all. I do however, have some familiarity with VoiceOver, having had an iPad
Mini for a few years. So I could likely be of help in setting it up, once
VoiceOver has been activated.

I would be grateful for any advice on this.

Hey Guys,

My Life Partner wants to get one of the larger iPads instead of an iPhone
because she wants something bigger that she can see better.

She wants to get a cellular version. I wasn't on the line when she was talking
to the guy at the Apple store, but   she told me that if she pays to get the
cellular version, the guy told her that she wouldn't be able to make phone
calls with it.

Is this information correct?

Thanks much.

That is correct.
Power it up, and triple click the home button or in the iPad's case, possibly
the side switch if no home button, and you can go from there.

Evan,

I just got an iPad mini for Christmas, and the setup was no problem. VoiceOver
started with triple click home, and you can just follow the prompts from there.
I had an older iPad, so I restored an iCloud backup of that to the new mini.

In short, no vision was needed.

Good luck,
Pam

Evan,

I just got an iPad mini for Christmas, and the setup was no problem. VoiceOver
started with triple click home, and you can just follow the prompts from there.
I had an older iPad, so I restored an iCloud backup of that to the new mini.

In short, no vision was needed.

Good luck,
Pam

Subject: Is It Possible to Set Up an iPad out of the Box without Any Sighted
Assistance?

Evan

A lot of apps require you to log in to them with email addresses and such,
They can then use that to send you emails re updates or notifications.

I find it odd that you have to provide an email address, in order to get the
service whether it be free or if you pay a subscription for it. I wanted to try
it out, but to put in my email address I’m not so sure.

Yes there is.
But, I'd suggest waiting to try it until the update comes out.

Hi my friends,
I just wanted to reach out and let you know that we've fixed several of the
bugs you have mentioned in our upcoming Supersense update.
We're expecting it to be out this week!

First and foremost, Supersense can now scan PDf documents up to 400 pages,
quickly! Some users mentioned a size limitation before, and we have now
expanded this to make sure it should work for everyone.

Regarding speech engines, Supersense will now remember which voice you have
selected, and Samantha will no longer disappear when another voice is in use.
She's pretty far down the list, but she's there!
Finally, we have added a magnifier for low vision users. :)

I hope this helps, and let me know if there's anything else we can do to spruce
up the app for you!

All the best,
--
Shane Lowe.

That's a bit tricky. If you feel around the screen, you need to find the OK
button. You can't seem to get there by flicking. I had to scroll down with a
two finger upward swipe and then feel around the screen to eventually find and
double tap the ok button.

What about adding the ability to train an object or a face?

So if I trained it to recognise my face, it would name me in photographs I

Thanks.

All the best,
--
Shane Lowe.

 Hi everyone,
Great news! We no longer store any scanned material with Supersense, so
 you
are free to use the app with any materials you would like. :) We are
 also
expecting to have another sale before the summer time, so if you missed
 the
discounted pricing, there is still hope!

All the best, and happy 2021.

I use the Watch app on the phone and when you select your face, you can edit
the complications that show up.
I'm also somewhat new with this but it could be you need to check the settings
on the watch as well.

How do I change my watch face so it shows my location?
I double tapped Coopertino and let it use my location and then double tapped
Aurora CO. I even double tapped the png. when I go back to the watch face it
still shows Coopertino.

Good luck,

Is It Possible to Set Up an iPad out of the Box without Any Sighted Assistance?

2021-01-06 Thread Evan Reese

Hello,

Kind of a followup to my recent inquiry, if my Life Partner decides to
get an iPad, is it possible to set one up without any sighted assistance?

The problem is that we are having a very hard time right now getting an
appointment at the Apple store, where they would normally do that for a
blind customer. So basically, we would be having to get it running from
square one.

My Life Partner has a very limited amount of partial vision, and I have
none at all. I do however, have some familiarity with VoiceOver, having
had an iPad Mini for a few years. So I could likely be of help in
setting it up, once VoiceOver has been activated.

I would be grateful for any advice on this.

Evan

Most accessible Craig’s List app

2021-01-06 Thread 'Kimberly Samco' via VIPhone
Hello all,

I want to post something for sale on Craig’s list and so far have not found an
app that allows me to enter all required info, meaning some text fields are not
shown. Does anyone have a favorite Craig’s list app?

As always, thanks,

Kim

RE: Can a Cellular iPad Make Phone Calls?

2021-01-06 Thread Richard Turner
That sounds correct to me. Unless, and this is a big unless, she also has an
iPhone that has the Allow Calls on Other Devices turned on and it is nearby.
The main point of the cellular feature on the iPads is for internet
connectivity when not on WiFi and for GPS functionality.

But, a WiFi iPad can sort of make calls if there is an iPhone nearby that has
the allow calls on other devices set.
ON an iPad, you would have to select the contact and activate the number though
as there is no keypad/phone app on the iPad.

If anyone finds her Twitter account name please pass that along. I'm
not remotely active on Facebook. I searched for her on Twitter and
came up with @mirka_pavlikova, but there was no tweets or hardly any
other information on the profile. For other Twitter users, there is
the Disney Plus main account @disneyPlus. Perhaps mentioning them
would go somewhere.

Be well,

Saying she is active on Facebook isn’t all that helpful without her name.

Richard, in the U.S.

"You know," said Arthur, "it's at times like this, when I'm trapped in a Vogon
airlock with a man from Betelgeuse, and about to die of asphyxiation in deep
space, that I really wish I'd listened to what my mother told me when I was
young."
"Why, what did she tell you?"
"I don't know, I didn't listen."

Accessible Bluetooth Accurate Scale

2021-01-06 Thread terrieter
Hello everyone,

I am looking for an accurate Bluetooth scale with an accessible app for the
iPhone. I only care about my weight. I don't need body composition or other
information. But I do want a scale that can be accurate within 2 tenths of a
pound. Is anyone using a scale with these features? If so, and if you like
the scale, could you send me the name and any other info I would need to
order it on line? I would appreciate this very very much.

Good wishes,

Terrie Terlau

Hi all,
Dennis, to answer your question, we actually never stored any
information that was scanned by users, but the privacy policy didn't
make that clear, so we changed it to reflect this.
So not only do we not store anything that you scan, we never did!

More to the point, why are they keeping scanned images?

Does the ocr not take place on the device and therefore shouldn't
need to be kepts Correct me if I'm wrong but no one else keeps
scanned images of things people OCR on their devices.

 Shane,

Are document scans ever deleted from your system to protect user’s
privacy? Randomly collected scans of documents like mail, financial
statements, employer communications and similar material may not be
linked with a user’s personal details but the end user is
identifiable in the documents. These electronic records could be
subject to subpoena and expose blind people to the legal discovery
process just for needing to read material. One way to limit exposure
to this problem would be to delete these kinds of records regularly,
such as every 30 or 60 days so third parties would not be able to
 access them.

The difference between your service and Seeing AI from Microsoft is
that all data stays on the phone with Seeing AI and it is purged
when the app is closed. The problem with blindness related
interactive or cloud based services is the issue of data collection
policies that fail to understand that the blind community is relatively
 small.
People can be easily identified based on contextual information,
even though it is stripped of metadata like names and e-mail addresses.

 Kelly

That's a bit tricky. If you feel around the screen, you need to find the OK

two finger upward swipe and then feel around the screen to eventually find and
double tap the ok button.

2021-01-06 Thread Michael Feir
That's a bit tricky. If you feel around the screen, you need to find the OK
button. You can't seem to get there by flicking. I had to scroll down with
a two finger upward swipe and then feel around the screen to eventually
find and double tap the ok button.
