Re: Glucose monitor?

2021-04-11 Thread Ari Moisio

Hi

My wife has used Libre2 with IOs app at least two months. However the
sensor lifetime is still two weeks, at least here in Finland.

The alerts are quite unreliable and the connection is often lost.

There is now a Libre 2 which has additional features, such as various alarms,
and also a 21 day sensor, but as of now she uses the 14 day sensor.

Hello Ann and all,
I recently started using the Freestyle Libre 14 day system product from Abbott.
I highly recommend this product. I downloaded the Libre link app on my iPhone.
The app is easy to use. You do not need to buy the reader unless you want a
sighted person to look at your readings. I use my iPhone to monitor all of my
data.
I recently got my insurance company to purchase my sensors. I have a small
co-pay.

RE: Glucose monitor?

2021-04-11 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Where abouts in the world are you located?

When I started using the libre here in NZ the app wasn't available and I wasn't
going to pay for the monitor when I couldn't use it,

So I set up an account for the apple app store in the UK and also Australia and
downloaded the app from the UK in the end,

The app itself let me say I was in NZ but the NZ Appstore didn't have it at the
time.

With these things there are always ways around them if you think about how you
want to get ahead.

Waw,

That's pretty full on requirements.

With my freestyle libre I probably test over 10 times per day,

 As for insulin
Even type 2's can be on insulin now days

I recently started using the Freestyle Libre 14 day system product from

I can vouch, as my wife uses that system. She can see well enough to tuse the
reader, but I set up the app on her phone and i can also check her readings.
There is now a Libre 2 which has additional features, such as various alarms,

Re: Glucose monitor?

2021-04-11 Thread Andy Baracco
I can vouch, as my wife uses that system. She can see well enough to tuse
the reader, but I set up the app on her phone and i can also check her
readings.
There is now a Libre 2 which has additional features, such as various
alarms, and also a 21 day sensor, but as of now she uses the 14 day sensor.

Hello Ann and all,
I recently started using the Freestyle Libre 14 day system product from
Abbott. I highly recommend this product. I downloaded the Libre link app on
my iPhone. The app is easy to use. You do not need to buy the reader unless
you want a sighted person to look at your readings. I use my iPhone to
monitor all of my data.
I recently got my insurance company to purchase my sensors. I have a small
co-pay.

Here is a link that can get you started:

I hope this information is helpful to you.

RE: Glucose monitor?

2021-04-11 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Hi Ann,

yes as others have said there are a couple of brands that I would recommend,

the Dexcom is possibly the better of the 2 I know of,

it is slightly more costly than the Freestyle Libre which has a 14 day life for
their sensors although in the states I believe that might be slightly less.

I personally use the freestyle libre and an app on my iPhone
This lets me scan the sensor when I wish to.

The Dexcom however has an add on device which lets you connect the Dexcom
sensor to the phone via Bluetooth and then it automatically scans the sensor
every 5 minutes or so making it a full continuous blood glucose monitor,

The freestyle libre is not yet able to do this by default,

However if you are in to jailbreaking iPhones or you use an android device
there is a Chinese made product called maomao
Which is a Bluetooth device that attachs to the top of the libre sensor and
connects to the app on your phone to continually scan your sensor providing
constant readings.

Again this isn't something I would recommend after researching it, as you would
have to jailbreak your iPhone or join the developers platform for the apple
world,
And as Richard said, yes you require at least an iPhone 7 as the sensors use
NFC communication to talk to the phone that they are being scanned with.

Good luck and hope you find something that works for you.

In my work as a rehabilitation instructor I ran into lots of clients dealing
with this.
There are the Dexcom and the Freestyle Libre styles that are patches you wear
for between 12 and 14 days I think, and work wirelessly with your phone, so you
don't have to buy their extra monitoring device.
Those you can avoid having to prick your finger for blood. Or the Talking
Prodigy model where you have to use the blood strips, replacement strips are
available from amazon.

I've heard that the Dexcom is a bit more accessible with your phone. You need
at least an iPhone 7.

RE: Newest iPhone with a physical home button.

2021-04-11 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
All iPhones have both front and rear cameras and I always say the matter of
storage is entirely a personal choice, you know what you have now and whether
are running low on space or not. If you are like me and you don't download
music to your phone or have maybe hundreds or, as I hear is the case with some
people, have thousands of apps, there may be little reason to spend more just
to have more storage. I have always had 64 Gb phones because I only use about
half of that right now on my iPhone 11 and that has about 500 pictures and 50
or 60 short videos on it and I actually have to spend some time and clean that
up because I assume most of those could go. I have I think 78 apps and I
download Audible books usually anywhere from 2 to 4 or 5 at a time, I don't see
a point why I should have all of my almost 900 Audible books downloaded to my
phone since I can download any of them any time if I feel like listening to it
again. If I listen to music on my phone which is rare I stream it via my Apple
Music subscription. I prefer to listen to music at home either on my Sonos
system or, if I am in the mood and have time, on my old high-end stereo system
downstairs where it is properly set up in its own room. I have a feeling when
the next series of iPhones come out this fall that 128 Gb maybe the starting
point and that 64 Gb will disappear or maybe it will still be available on
whatever older models are kept like the SE 2020 or iPhone 11, but I wouldn't
spend $100 more for storage I know I won't ever use. Only you yourself knows if
you need it or not.

Best regards,
Sieghard

Here is some info about the iPHone SE 2020, or as Apple calls it the SE 2nd
Generation.

It came out after the iPHone 11, so it has the same chip as the 11 and the same
camera processing, though with only one camera, which is all you need for blind
applications like OCR, Object recognition and good basic picture taking.

I use my iPhone SE 2ND Gen a lot and I sometimes can go about 10 hours between

I would say 8 hours is solid.
It blows the iPhone 8 out of the water for performance. Not to mention it has
the same water resistance as the 11.

It just came out a year ago, so it is easily the best phone with a home button
unless you have to have the larger screen that the 11 has.

MY only regret after a year is that I did not buy the 256 GB phone, but the 128
GB.
I have a ton of music and seem to be adding more and more stuff.
Time to delete things.
But, it is a great phone.

I would recommend though, wait and see what the 13 offers this fall.
Unless you need a phone now.

See if they bring back any kind of finger sensor.

Interesting, do you know what the battery life is compared to an iPhone 8?
I usually charge my 8 every night because the apps I run seem to take a lot of
battery.

Its camera is perfect for things like Seeing AI and other Apps that the
visually impaired need.

It is extremely fast. A lot faster than the iPhone 8. And, since it is
exactly the same size as an iPhone 8, it fits the same cases.

As far as I can tell, its battery is just a bit too small.

I have to charge my SE 2020 once a day. It gets used around 7 to 8 hours every
day.

Its the least expensive iPhone model out there with a small screen and a bunch
of camera features that I will never never, use.

Cheers,

James B .

Ann, the Verio Flex does what you want. The app is accessible with voiceover. I
recommend using the app for registering & creating an account, because the
website isn’t voiceover friendly.

RE: Glucose monitor?

2021-04-11 Thread Richard Turner
In my work as a rehabilitation instructor I ran into lots of clients dealing
with this.
There are the Dexcom and the Freestyle Libre styles that are patches you wear
for between 12 and 14 days I think, and work wirelessly with your phone, so you
don't have to buy their extra monitoring device.
Those you can avoid having to prick your finger for blood. Or the Talking
Prodigy model where you have to use the blood strips, replacement strips are
available from amazon.

I've heard that the Dexcom is a bit more accessible with your phone. You need
at least an iPhone 7.
Here is the link to the Dexcom https://www.dexcom.com/g6-cgm-system
