I believe that you can go into Settings/notifications and shut them all off.

Hello; I’m wondering if there’s a way to quite notifications other than
turning on do not disturb. They can be very bothersome when one is working
on other applications in the iPhone. Thank you very much.

Re: How to quiet notifications

2021-07-24 Thread Jennie Facer
Hi Martin,

If you go under settings then notifications, you can turn off apps that are
bothersome and you can also make them just appear as a temporary banner that
appears and then disappears. Just a thought.

RE: How to quiet notifications

2021-07-24 Thread Richard Turner
Go into settings, Notification Center, and turn off notifications, either by
app, or overall.
You can turn off sounds, and just have them as a banner, so they don't grab
your attention.

There are several options in there to explore.

Or, just mute the phone or as you say, turn on do not disturb.

Taptic time on Apple Watch, observations on how to maybe get it to work consistently

2021-07-24 Thread Richard Turner
First, on the Apple Watch, open settings, Clock.
Flick through beyond the Sound setting and turn off speak time.
Then, make sure the next item, Taptic time, is on and the chosen system is
highlighted. For me, it is the digits.

I wear my watch on my left hand, and the digital crown is pointed toward my
fingers.
So in my view, the crown is on the right side of the watch.

Ann Burn gave us the tip that tapping at about the 2 o'clock position on the
face, works more consistently for her.
Well, having experimented a lot today, anywhere from about 1 to 5 on the watch,
in other words, on the crown half of the face, a one finger double tap gets me
the taptic time 99% of the time.

I had been tapping on the 7 to 11 side of the watch face, but tapping on the
other side seems to have made all the difference.

The watch still speaks the time when the crown is pressed, but now it actually
provides the taptic time on demand.

Thanks to Ann for that tip, this had been getting rather frustrating.

HTH,

Richard

Correct name of instant pot app and model said it works with

2021-07-24 Thread Lynda Ingraham
Good afternoon everyone,

I do not have an instant pot but would like to buy one. I understand the app is
now accessible again. Could someone please give me the correct name of the app
and the models of the instant pot that can work with the app?

Thank you very much.

Re: Direct touch issut

2021-07-24 Thread Chris Chaffin

Direct Touch is the feature that allows apps like MBraille to exist, and has
actually been around as long as MBraille has.
It basically overrides the built in gestures with the gestures that are built
into the specific app. So Direct Touch is what allows you to type using the
braille keyboard in MBraille.

I just now discovered that with mBraille. What the heck is direct touch anyway?
Why does it exist and is it of any benefit to us visually impaired users?

Quick Nav may also be getting in the way if this is a qwerty keyboard. if so,
pressing the left+right arrow keys will toggle quick nav.
On a braille display, I think it is space+q.

You cannot get rid of it, but it would help to know which kind of keyboard.
This usually impacts braille displays/keyboards, so you turn the rotor to where
it says direct touch and flick up.
That should get you going.

RE: Help with taptic time on my Apple Watch

2021-07-24 Thread Richard Turner
Ann,

Using your tip this morning anywhere from around the 2 o'clock position to 5
o'clock, (basically, closer to the digital crown side of the face), I've gotten
it to work 100% of the time. Don't tap two quickly, maybe a half second
between taps
If you start to say "one one thousand" on the first tap, the second tap should
land on the first syllable of thousand, so "one one thou".
At least, for me, that has worked every time.

Now, we'll see if it works when I wake up in the middle of the night.

Thanks,

Richard

I find it very iffy. If I tap twice, slowly not quickly, at about 2 on the
watch face, it works best for me.

Good luck!

RE: Help with taptic time on my Apple Watch

2021-07-24 Thread Richard Turner
Hi Chela,

In answer to your last question: Speaking of Apple Watch though, has anybody
ever done the feature called walkie talkie on this device if so, how does it
work?
Yes I have, once, briefly, and it seems to work fine.
You can only call other Apple Watch owners, and I believe they have to be in
your contacts, but that is just a guess, and possibly wrong. I’ve not read up
on it.
Only one person in my family has an Apple watch and I tested it shortly after
she got hers when we were in the same house.

Yeah Richard I am literally the same way usually get it with one try out of
five or two tries out of five I guess it’s all in how you double tap it if you
double tap it slowly or double tap it quickly or maybe two quick I’m not sure
but Apple really needs to fix that it’s hard to reproduce apparently because
not every Apple Watch is having that issue on their end I’m sure that’s what
they tell people but this is why they have to have feedback from us in my
opinion. I will keep reporting this to Apple accessibility though. I’ve been
reporting this ever since watch OS 6.1 came out. I own the fifth generation
Apple Watch Which oddly enough my cited friend who is a trumpet player calls it
an I watch. Lol! It’s OK he still learning about it to picking my brain
occasionally here and there and everywhere else. But that’s what I get for
making other friends that are two times my age he’s got to be in his 60s. I’m
in my 30s. Speaking of Apple Watch though, has anybody ever done the feature

Just a double tap with one finger and the watch has to be locked for this to
work since of course a single finger double tap activates an item when the
watch is unlocked.

I find it very iffy. If I tap twice, slowly not

Re: the Instant Pot bluetooth app works again.

2021-07-24 Thread Lynda Ingraham
Hi, I have not been following the instant pot thread closely. I did not
previously owned one. However, I understand the app is back and accessible.
Could you please tell me what the name of the app is in the App Store I’ve
download it several but I’m not sure. I would definitely love to have an
instant pot.

Thank you very much.

Mecbook air replacement magsafe charger

2021-07-24 Thread Ian Harrison
Hi everyone,
My 2014 magsafe charger is fraying at the tip. I don’t want to pay £79 from the
apple store but also don’t trust Amazon reviews. Has anyone out there got a
cheaper version that they have been happy with for a while? One I have seen is
by a company called Nodara.

With thanks as always
Ian
