Notes versus word when it comes to device syncing, dictation, and Trustworthierback ups?

2021-09-06 Thread Pete Nalda
So, I am writing a memoir, that’s about 65 pages so far, add about 4400 words.
I started this in notes, and then I copied it to work just to see how many
pages ahead so far. One thing about notes is the despond it’s so much easier to
see then whatever font Microsoft is using. I know that just doing it one or the
other would be easier than copying it back-and-forth. Any of y’all have any
advice? I’m going to say to that I do a whole lot of dictating through my
iPhone even quite a bit of editing!

Re: Unlocking an iPhone

2021-09-06 Thread Joseph Hudson
Yes it's up to them to get it unlocked unless you two are with the same
carrier. Then it doesn't matter if it's unlocked or not. But if they're with
Verizon, don't know longer selling locked phones.

Hi Kay, O, I went through a horrible nightmare re this very issue a little
over a year ago. I bought a phone that was advertised as unlocked. In
fact, the seller told me it would work on Verizon. One of the biggest
lessons I learned from that experience is to get the seller to give u the
IMEI (I m e i) number. Then, check with apple, (I checked apple
accessibility) They can tell u whether or not that phone is unlocked and
what carrier it is on. Folks on this list really were a huge help to me in
dealing with the problem. Hope this helps.

2021-09-06 Thread Dennis Long
That is absolutely something they the seller should do. I know of 2 people
that bought phones from others and they had accounts on them because the person
who sold them didn't properly reset them. It amazes me that people don't do
what is needed. As a eBay seller I always make sure that is done.

Honestly Kate, I don't know.
Find out what service it is through and call that service to find out if they
will unlock it for you if the seller hasn't done so when you take possession.
But, they really should do that before selling it.

I have the same issue; well, maybe not exactly but I notice that the left
Airpod dies before the right one. I also have the 2nd generation. I will check
and see if there may be some dust in the charging port.

Subject: AirPods question?

Hello,

I have some Apple AirPods here and have noticed something strange.

The left AirPod is listed as having 18% charge while the right has 63% charge.

I can appreciate the charge level between the two may be different, but this
amount of difference between the two I find rather strange.

They are second generation AirPods and while not in use are kept in their
charging case.

Any thoughts welcome.

Re: Unlocking an iPhone

2021-09-06 Thread Kelly Pierce
Unless the phone was bought unlocked from Apple, the carrier needs to
unlock the phone, not the consumer. If you are buying it used, the
person needs to contact their carrier and request the unlock. The
person has to have paid off the iPhone and have waited a particular
period if they got the phone through a promotion. My carrier offers a
$250 discount when someone buys a new iPhone, but customers cannot
cancel their service or have it unlocked immediately.

Do you use the left more than the right? Sometimes depending on what I'm
listening to, I might just use one headphone.

Just a thought!

Hello,

I have some Apple AirPods here and have noticed something strange.

The left AirPod is listed as having 18% charge while the right has 63%
charge.

I can appreciate the charge level between the two may be different, but
this amount of difference between the two I find rather strange.

They are second generation AirPods and while not in use are kept in their
charging case.

Any thoughts welcome.

Honestly Kate, I don't know.
Find out what service it is through and call that service to find out if they
will unlock it for you if the seller hasn't done so when you take possession.
But, they really should do that before selling it.

Amazon App Issue

2021-09-06 Thread Andy Baracco
One of the credit cards I use for Amazon expired, and I want to update it, but
I don't see where to enter the new security code, and the update won't take.
I even tried entering it as a new card, but again there doesn't seem to be a
way to enter the security code.
Has anyone experienced this?

Andy

Hi folks

Whent that friend pushes his side button he hears a high and low sound and

something went wrong try again later.

He has done all things you maybe want to propose, putting off and on his

iphone doing a hard reset but nothing helps.

There is no overall problem with siri because his wife sitting next to him

has no problem with her iphone 11 he also has an iphone 11 pro.

RE: iPhone case [was "RE: !those who have IPhone 12 mini"]

2021-09-06 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
This is not an iPhone case, it is a belt holster and if you buy the correct
size if will fit your iPhone in a minimal case, e.g. a tight fitting leather or
TPU case.

I’m kind of curious about this case of yours Sieghard. Do you keep the phone in
it all of the time or just slip it into this case when you’re taking it out and
about with you? Is it easy to slip in and out of the case? Could you give us
the name of the case, or even better yet, give us a link to learn more about
this case? Thanks Sieghard!

Christopher, maybe it depends on who sits on it 

I personally can't stand having any size iPhone in my front jeans pockets,
it's OK in the back pocket, but I only do that sometimes in the house when I am
doing stuff and not sitting down. Otherwise I prefer a belt holster and the one
I currently have is nice because you can even use it without the belt because
the belt loop so to speak closes with a super strong magnet so I can even put
it inside the waist of a pair of jeans or shorts or whatever and the rare earth
magnet they use is so strong that it clamps together with the fabric in between
no problem.

The case is a very good quality leather with a small compartment in front of
the main phone compartment where you can put a credit card, cash or even a
rolled up set of wired Earbuds and it's by a company called Waterfield Design
in San Francisco I think. It is made in the US and hence quite expensive, I
think it was $89 US, but for me it's worth it.

It has a cut-out in the bottom where you can plug in wired Earpods when the
phone is in the case, but since my iPhone 11 fits inside the case with a
minimal case on it with a bit of friction I often just fold the leather flap
back and stick it behind my belt and this way I can put the iPhone in upside
down and plug in my Earpods.

The flap if you close it is also held in place with a magnet. It's a very high
quality and well-made case, but as I said, not cheap. On the other hand I used
to buy these cases with a plastic swivel belt clip and several time when I got
caught on something the belt clip broke and by the time I bought my third or
fourth of these cheaper cases I might as well have bought that one.

Well, I don't think an iPhone will be damaged if it's in your back pocket and
you sit on it. Plus, I think you'll notice it pretty quickly once you sit down,
so you can retrieve it before it takes too much of a prolonged strain. All that
being said, if you're worried about it then just don't ever put it in your back
pocket.

Just a curiosity I must address in this thread; how is it that one might keep
their iPhone in his/her back pocket without risking the wreckage of same?

I myself would live in wholesale terror for fear that I might forget that my
iPhone is in my back pocket that I might sit on it! This would likely have the
most unpleasant effect of reforming the iPhone such that it would no longer
work.

Just a “tongue-in-cheek” thought. 

RE: Starting a New Line in a Text Message

2021-09-06 Thread Richard Turner
HI Paul and everyone,
I’m pasting below the last section of the document I have on my web site for
the VoiceOver Braille Commands. To answer Paul’s question directly to enter a
new line in a text message from a braille keyboard it’s a two-layer keystroke,
press space+dots7,2 release those and press enter (which is dot 8.)
Here is all the QWERTY equivalents plus a few commands you may find useful.
Key equivelants for doing keyboard commands just like on a QWERTY keyboard;

Dot 1+7+spacebar, Command key
Dot 2+7 +spacebar, Options key
Dot 3+7+spacebar, Control key
Dot 4+7+spacebar, Shift key
Dot 5+7+spacebar, FN key

To toggle any of the above keys on, use dot 8 instead of dot 7. Note, you will
need to repeat the combination with dot 8 when you want to toggle off the key.

Command+Shift+d, Send, mail
Command+R, Reply
Command+n, new Email or Text message
Control+Options+l, Read current line
Control+Options+w, Read current word
Control+Options+c, Read current character

HTH,
Richard

Starting a New Line in a Text Message

2021-09-06 Thread Mike B.
Hi All,

Running an SE 2020 iPhone with iOS14.7.1. When I'm using my bluetooth
keyboard and composing a new text message how or what keystroke do I use to
start a new line? I tried pressing enter like I do on my PC, and that was a
mistake for sure! Thanks mooy moocho.

Stay safe & take care. Mike.
Just once, I want a username and password prompt to say: "Close Enough!"
