I was worried about the same thing as you. I got a 13 pro because of the

happy with my 13 pro. It was the best purchase I made in a long while.

what I want. I want an iPhone with a home button and a better battery than

mirroring the iPhone?

2021-12-14 Thread Kay Malmquist
Hi all,
I am tired of having to delete my text messages and phone messages from both
the watch and iPhone. I seem to recall seeing mirror iPhone or something to
that effect, in a couple of different places. Can someone tell me what I
need to do to get this to quit? If I delete one, I would like the other
place to be deleted as well. Thanks for any help.

RE: Bluetooth Speaker With Microphone

2021-12-14 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I don't think you can make voice calls with a Sonos Roam; in fact while Alexa
works well on any Sonos speaker, the ability to use the Alexa Intercom
functionality or to make phone calls is blocked somehow. I don't know why this
is, but unless something changed very recently it is not possible.
Also, my Wanderboom 2 does not have a microphone, it is strictly a Bluetooth
speaker.

We used it for phone calls with friends in Australia before zoom and facetime

Not sure how much they cost these days

The other might be the sonos roam

The only modern iphone that still has the home button is the Iphone SE2. For
phones with no home button, pressing the power button 3 times in a row will
turn voiceover on and off, you can also change this in accessibility settings
but I can't think of why you would want to do that.

Home button [was "RE: Getting a new phone and asking questions"]

2021-12-14 Thread Christopher Chaltain
For those who don't have any experience with an iPhone that doesn't have a home
button, and who may be skeptical about getting an iPhone without a home button,
I'd just like to share my experience from earlier today. I was in the waiting
room while my wife was having a medical procedure done, and I was constantly
going back and forth between my person iPhone 11 and my employer's iPhone 7,
and I realized that all things being equal, I definitely prefer a phone without
a home button. Note that having a home button wouldn't be a deal breaker with
me, I just found it so much easier finding things in my dock or up in the
status bar without having to worry about that space you lose with the home
button. Plus I think it makes braille screen input a lot easier as well. If
people have experience with both, and prefer a phone with a home button, then
that's great, but if you're skeptical about getting a phone without a home
button then I'd really suggest you give it a go before deciding that you prefer
a phone with a home button. That's just my $0.02.

Hi,

The 12 is bigger than the se and the 7, The 12 range and the 13 range don't
have home buttons but you can set the power button to switch voiceover off / on,

But is your SE one of the original from about 5 years ago or is it the SE 2020
which does have a home button and would be pretty much identical to the iPHone
7 And work as you would know your current phone does.

Hope this helps.

Yeah I hve a UE Boom 2 speaker that I have used with my phone and it has a
microphone in it

We used it for phone calls with friends in Australia before zoom and facetime
really got up and running.

Not sure how much they cost these days

The other might be the sonos roam
Which I believe has a microphone in it.

RE: Getting a new phone and asking questions

2021-12-14 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Hi,

The 12 is bigger than the se and the 7,
The 12 range and the 13 range don't have home buttons but you can set the power
button to switch voiceover off / on,

But is your SE one of the original from about 5 years ago or is it the SE 2020
which does have a home button and would be pretty much identical to the iPHone
7
And work as you would know your current phone does.

Hope this helps.

RE: Getting a new phone and asking questions

2021-12-14 Thread Alan Lemly
Hi Lelia,

Below is a list of dimensions for the iPhone SE 2020 which is the same
physically as the iPhone 7 and 8 as compared to the iPhone 12:

Height

iPhone SE 2020: 5.45 inches

iPhone 12: 5.78 inches

Width

iPhone SE 2020: 2.65 inches

iPhone 12: 2.82 inches

Depth

iPhone SE 2020: 0.29 inches

iPhone 12: 0.29 inches

Weight

iPhone SE 2020: 5.22 ounces

iPhone 12: 5.78 ounces

Display diagonal

iPhone SE 2020: 4.7 inch

iPhone 12: 6.1 inch

As others have mentioned, when first powering on your new iPhone 12, you can
press the side power button 3 times to turn Voiceover on. After you’ve set up
your new device, go to Settings, Accessibility, and swipe to the next to last
item on the screen which is Accessibility shortcut and double tap it and find
Voiceover on the screen that opens and double tap it to select it as your
shortcut. This will ensure that pressing the side power button 3 times will
toggle Voiceover either on or off for your device.

Re: Getting a new phone and asking questions

2021-12-14 Thread Wayne Merritt
If you're concerned about the size, you could get a 12 Mini or 13
Mini. The 12 Mini is likely to be cheaper since it is last year's
model. In my opinion, size and speech voices are subjective, and
everyone has their own preferences of what they like. I think most
people can get used to a larger sized phone. If I put my 2020 SE work
phone on top of my personal iPhone 11, the 11 is only slightly longer
or bigger. Both phones have cases, but if I took them out and compared
their sizes, I think there's a slight difference but not much.
Besides, a "bigger" phone means more icons on the screen and
potentially better battery life.

Good luck,
Wayne Merritt

Hello, yes you will be able to do three clicks of the power button, and that
will turn off and on voiceover. On the newer model phones. Secondly, I know how
you feel about that esses battery. I have the same issue. However, I heard on

Actually Sieghard, it wasn't the handwashing routine that started, it was the
fall detection and was getting ready to contact emergency services ... so I
stopped it. How silly would I have felt had the fire department and/or police

Hey Richard, then when it happens as you are tossing laundry into the dryer, I
hope you continue to toss until it has finished counting down!
Personally I find this a bit too gimmicky for me, I have washed my hands for
50+ years without a watch telling me how long to do so and even during COVID
times it just becomes second nature to do it properly. But that is me and I
certainly don't want to discourage anybody from using it if they find it useful.

The little guy that lives in the watch can see what your doing 😊.

Another answer, it is magic.

The real answer is it uses the sensors in the watch to detect a specific
pattern. Likely it will get some false positives; like when it thought I had
fallen when I was tossing laundry into the dryer

Hi Donna, I can't remember which iPhone you have, but I know for sure up until
the iPhone 11 at least each iPhone came with a set of Earpods which can also be
had from Apple for I think $19.99. I don't want to minimize your situation and
that you don't want to spend money unnecessarily, but for me a set of wired
headphones are an essential item and I feel that these inexpensive Apple
Earpods are the absolute best value as the functionality with the little inline
remote is great and in my opinion they sound pretty amazing for such a simple
and inexpensive item. Just my 2 cents worth.

Siegard,

I don't own a pair of earbuds/earpods/earphones. And no I'm not getting any for
Xmas. I have absolutely NO friends or family, except my partner & 3 kids who
live in the same house with me. Being a parent of a severely disabled child is
lonely. Family & friends left not long after my son's birth. The closest thing
I have to a friend are Doctors, nurses, therapists & teachers. The needs of my
children & those necessities for survival come first. So buying myself such an
item isn't in the budget. My son goes on Xmas break on Friday, so I'll give my
idea of two Apple ID's a try.

There is no shake to wake and in any case I still decide to wake my phone
because I have to tap it, but I find it a more natural thing to do for the most
part than having to press the side button. But as I said, it is entirely
subjective and depends on what you train your self to do just as in Windows you
can do the same thing often with a number of keystrokes and some prefer one
keyboard shortcut over another to do the same thing. You simply have to try it.
How it reacts to when the phone is in your pocket I don't know because just as
Richard I can't stand having my iPhone in my pocket, even with a 4-inch iPhone
5S I felt it was uncomfortable and I always carry my phone in a belt holster.

Hi all,
do people have there phones set on tap to wake or just use the side button.
I found with my previous screen it would keep waking when it bumped anything
when in my pocket. However that was with a non Apple screen. I can’t remember
if it did that when the phone had a genuine screen.
Just am interested what people who keep the phones in there pockets. I suspect
ladies don’t have this problem if they put it in a handbag.
Thanks for your ideas.

I don't know if it was on this list, but a while ago someone mentioned an adapter for the newer iPhones that plug in to the lightning port on the iPhone.  The one I have just
has the 3.5 female jack for the headphones.  What I saw and didn't keep was an adapter that plugged in to the lightning port of the phone and had a 3.5 female jack and a female lightning plug for charging or plugging something else in to it.  I think it might
have been called a rockstar but am not sure.  If anyone can help, this would be great.  Thanks much.

RE: bluetooth / wifi speakers

2021-12-14 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Pretty much most wireless charging uses the Qi standard including Apple,
Samsung and many others. I assume the proprietary charging stand from Sonos
will maybe give the Roam a bit more stability, but I rarely use the cable to
charge my Roam and instead just stand it on the charging pad I use for my
iPhone; of course you stand it on the side opposite from where the buttons are.

Yeah UsB C I knew about as it comes with the roam,

 Qi charging pad,
You shitting me?

Are they not a prpriotory connection?

Currently I'm stuck between do I pay 700 for the bigger sound and more solid
speaker,

Or 300 for the pocket sized speaker with less sound And then have to get the
wireless charger as an extra.

I like both speakers
The roam is small size and less sound punch,

The move kicks pretty good but is 2.5 times the price.

The choice to make.

Yeah was looking at both today,

The roam is very nice and small / compact,

About half the price of the move if I count in the wifi charging adapter,

But the volume doesn't scare the neighbours if I turn it up.

But in saying that the roam still has a nice volume and the battery life is
pretty much the same in both devices Approx. 10 hours in each.
But I"ve not yet been able to try a move with my own music

RE: Two Apple watches

2021-12-14 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

I have these speakers and their brand is rain dance. They were around
$25 on Amazon. They are quite powerful even though they are only 10
watts. Their range is well over 100 feet, and I have tested them out so
I can confirm they will reach that far.

RE: bluetooth / wifi speakers

2021-12-14 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Yeah UsB C I knew about as it comes with the roam,

 Qi charging pad,
You shitting me?

Are they not a prpriotory connection?

Currently I'm stuck between do I pay 700 for the bigger sound and more solid
speaker,

Or 300 for the pocket sized speaker with less sound
And then have to get the wireless charger as an extra.

I like both speakers
The roam is small size and less sound punch,

The move kicks pretty good but is 2.5 times the price.

The choice to make.

And just FYI, you can charge the Roam via a USB-C cable or stand it vertically

Yeah was looking at both today,

The roam is very nice and small / compact,

About half the price of the move if I count in the wifi charging adapter,

But the volume doesn't scare the neighbours if I turn it up.

But in saying that the roam still has a nice volume and the battery life is
pretty much the same in both devices Approx. 10 hours in each.
But I"ve not yet been able to try a move with my own music

Cheers though
It's good to know they work well off the phone.

I have the Roam and love it.
It works great as a bluetooth speaker for my iPhone when needed, otherwise is
plugged in as part of the overall system in our house providing music in a
small room.
