RE: A Question for Those Experiencing Siri Not Dialing Phone Numbers Beginning with Symbols

2022-04-14 Thread Kevin Minor
Hi Mark.

I've had what you're reporting happen on my Apple Watch as well. Usually,
rebooting my phone fixed that problem, but once I also had to reboot my watch
to fix it.

Hello Everyone,

As a follow up, as I forgot to mention this, in my original post:
Please note that this bug does not occur on Apple Watch. This is to say, Siri
on the Apple Watch will, in fact, dial a contact, as expected, regardless of
any prefix symbol sequence.

So, what I am currently doing, as a workaround is using Siri on my Apple Watch
to initiate a call, then, once connected, I transfer the call to my phone.

For me, this bug only occurs, on iPhone, when using Siri to dial a number that
begins with a symbol sequence prefix.

Hello Mike,

This is great news and thank you for letting us know.

I sent a very detailed bug report to Apple on this one but I am delighted to
learn that you have engaged an engineer for live feedback.

For years I have been petitioning Apple to allow users to toggle the Caller ID
display option for each Contact.

For the record, such an option existed back in the Windows Mobile days. It was
one of the first things I missed when I first switched to iPhone.

Hi Mark,

I just spent 3 days of going back and forth with a very understanding Apple
agent. He finally took the time to fully understand the problem instead just
shlepping me off and blaming my carrier like a couple of other Apple agents did
and blaming Apple like Verizon did.

Well, after escalating the problem it was determined it's indeed an iOS problem
and is supposed to be resolved as soon as they can figure what the hell it is!
LOL

Now, how's that for some positive feedback?! LOL

Beginning with Symbols

Hello Everyone,

I am just going to put this out there and if anyone knows of a solution, please
pass it on.

I have researched this bug, on the web, and a great deal of people are
reporting the problem. I, as yet, have not discovered a solution.

If the following makes no sense to you, then just ignore it.

In iOS15.4.1, Siri will not Dial Telephone Numbers that Begin with a Symbol

On some Wireless networks, one can selectively display one's CallerID by
inserting a prefix symbol sequence in front of a telephone number.

Please note that the prefix symbol sequence continues to function as expected
when one manually selects the phone number from the Contacts list or from the
Favorites page in the Phone app. The bug does not appear until one attempts to
use Siri to dial a contact, hands-free.

Steps to Reproduce the Bug:
1.
Create a Contact with a local telephone number that includes the prefix symbol
sequence of *31#. For example "*31#2125551212" (without the quotation
symbols.) This will allow the contact (John Doe) to see your telephone number
even when the show caller ID setting is disabled, in the Phone app.

2.
>From the Settings area, select the Phone app.

3.
Set [SHOW MY CALLER ID] to OFF.

4.
Say to Siri, "Call John Doe." Siri will respond with "Calling John Doe" and
the phone app will appear. After a few seconds, however, the phone app
disappears and no call is placed.

Firstly, which tap gestures did you asign for the app switcher andd home screen.

Secondly, I can't seem to find out how to power off the phone. the first press

Thirdly I have no sound when sliding my finger up or down the screen, just a

Good morning,

OK, to answer some of your questions.

Accessing the notifications center and control center

You can access the control and notifications center by placing your
finger at the top of the screen and sliding down. You will hear
sounds as well as feel haptic feedback. The first sound indicates
that the gesture has started.

When you reach the second sound, if you remove your finger at this
point that will put you in the control center.

If you continue down to the third sound and remove your finger that
will open the notifications center.

Accessing the home screen and app switcher

Similar to the previous set of gestures, you will now place your
finger at the bottom of the screen and slide up. Once again the
first sound indicates that the gesture has started.

The second sound will take you to the home screen when you remove
your finger, and the third sound will open the app switcher upon
removal of your finger.

For some of my students I have assigned the two back tap gestures
for the home screen and app switcher to their phones, so that they
have functionality as they get a feel for the gesture.

 Hope this helps.

Joe

Subject: my new iphone 13 mini

Hi listers

I have just purchased myself a iphone13 mini and would like
assistance in getting going and navigateing on a phone without a home button.

So firstly, where is the sim card slot.
I suppose I can use my se 2020 to transfer all my apps and settings
across, shouldn't need help with this.
So then we come to navigateing the screen, could anyone givbe an
in-depth description of how to get to the home key, notification
centre etc. Is the app switcher opened by double home press and is
there an alternative gesture for this.

Are there any additional gestures that can be installed/invoked ie.
swipe down and then left like in the talk-back reader.
I understand that siri is accessed by pressing the power off button.
could you describe how this works, I don't want my phone turning off
accidentally.

Most grateful for any feedback

Martin
