Thanks

Re: What are the advantages of buying Apple Watch series 8 over series 7?

2022-10-06 Thread Mary Otten
I guess the new one has a little bit faster processor. I have the seven. Check
that. I have the SE cellular. So my processor isn’t even the one that’s in the
seven. I really have appreciated the cellular feature. I don’t always have my
phone. If I go on a bike ride I certainly don’t have it. So for me the cellular
is kind of cool. $10 a month yes. So I guess it depends on What you think is
more important. I didn’t hear anything that was all that special for the eight.
I am waiting for some more significant health things before I spring for the
full price model.

RE: What are the advantages of buying Apple Watch series 8 over series 7?

2022-10-06 Thread Kevin Minor
Hi.

When I got my Series 7 Watch, I decided to get the cell feature. It was more a
novelty thing for me, but it sure came in handy today. I was wearing my watch,
and decided to take the garbage out. I was wearing clothes with no pockets in
them, so I had no way to carry my phone with me. In the process of taking the
garbage to the dumpster, I got disoriented, and was unsure where I was.
Thankfully, I was able to make a call to the office and have them look for me.

Just goes to show these things come in handy.

Another thing to consider is if you really need a cellular version. I have had
both and for me it’s not worth it. I have my phone with me all the time, so
having cellular on the watch is pretty much useless. That’s not to say if you
want to be untethered from your phone, then the cellular might be worth it.
But, remember if you put the service on your phone it’s going to be $10 to $20
a month plus taxes ..

Re: What are the advantages of buying Apple Watch series 8 over series 7?

2022-10-06 Thread Cris Ali
Thanks Kevin,
The decision I have to make is whether to buy series 7 GPS and celular for 350
dollars, or buy series 8 GPS and celular for 500. We are talking about 150
dollars differance. If the main differance is the temprature sensor, it is not
worth 150 dollars to me. It is a feature with no use to me. It is a handy
feature useful to women who want to monitor their cycle and ovulation if they
want to get pregnant.
Cheers,

RE: What are the advantages of buying Apple Watch series 8 over series 7?

2022-10-06 Thread Kevin Minor
Hi.

I have a Series 7 Apple Watch that I bought as a Birthday present for myself.
I'm very happy with it. I thought about upgrading to a Series 8, but the only
thing that I know it does that mine won't is to measure body temperature. The
Series 8 might have a little more battery level, but it wasn't enough for me to
upgrade it.

Just my thoughts.

Have a blessed day and don't work too hard.

Hello folks,
I have never owned an Apple Watch, but have been flirting with the idea for
quite sometime. I noticed that the prices of Apple Watches series 7 have gone
down significantly after the release of series 8. That is the reason of why I
like to know the advantages of buying series 8 over series 7, and whether
paying 150 dollars more for getting Apple Watch 8 is worth it.
I hope that those of you who own apple watches can help me decide.

What are the advantages of buying Apple Watch series 8 over series 7?

2022-10-06 Thread Cris Ali
Hello folks,
I have never owned an Apple Watch, but have been flirting with the idea for
quite sometime. I noticed that the prices of Apple Watches series 7 have gone
down significantly after the release of series 8. That is the reason of why I
like to know the advantages of buying series 8 over series 7, and whether
paying 150 dollars more for getting Apple Watch 8 is worth it.
I hope that those of you who own apple watches can help me decide.
Regards

Re: Containers And iPhone Weather App

2022-10-06 Thread Barbara Stahl
So I opened the weather app, then turned the roder's focus to containers. Then
I swiped down with one finger and voice over cycled through the various parts
of the weather app page. It said today's weather then another swipe took me to
the forcast by days, then another swipe took me to the pressure and other
weather related info section. It was much faster because I didn't have to
swipe down through everything to get to this information.

My Apple Watch is running OS 9. Prior to this update, I had it set to give time
by vibrations rather than through VoiceOver spech. Now, however, If I doule-tap
the screen, I get spoken time instead of taptic time. I checked settings, and
taptic time is turned on. I'd appreciate any advice. I will email Apple

Containers are Apple's way of dividing the screen into sections.
I just checked and now there are only two containers on the home screen, the
section where your apps are listed and the dock along the bottom of the screen.
It used to be that the Status Bar was also a container, but that doesn’t seem
to be the case.
I don't use containers either, but if you have it in your rotor, you can
experiment in different places and see what it does.

Hi!
You add containers to the roder by going to settings, accessibility, then
roder, then select containers.
However, this is not necessary to find out the pressure info from the native
weather. app. I personally, never use containers and access this information
all the time.
You just slide your finger down the screen til you hear the weather announced
by days rather than hours. Scroll through this and then you will reach all the
extra information like uv index, wind speed pressure visibility and so on. Its
pretty easy, but it is a slightly longer process than it used to be in previous
versions of ios. You used to be able to touch the botum of the screen where it
names your selected city and then scroll up and the information was right
there, but now if you try this you end up on the weather by days portion of the
app and must scroll back down again.

RE: Containers And iPhone Weather App

2022-10-06 Thread Richard Turner
Containers are Apple's way of dividing the screen into sections.
I just checked and now there are only two containers on the home screen, the
section where your apps are listed and the dock along the bottom of the screen.
It used to be that the Status Bar was also a container, but that doesn’t seem
to be the case.
I don't use containers either, but if you have it in your rotor, you can
experiment in different places and see what it does.

RE: Screen Recognition and Quick Settings, mystery sort of cleared up

2022-10-06 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hello Keith,

I use a VoIP phone app called 3CX and when I first started using it a couple of
years ago the dialpad was inaccessible, it would just say "button" for every
number. In this case turning on screen recognition was a perfect solution as
all the numbers and buttons like Call were read and I could use it.

I also have come across a few apps where a few screens with information were
displayed after installing the app and before you got to a "Got It" or "I
Agree" button. Unfortunately I can't remember the last one where I couldn't
read this text but with screen recognition turned on I could.

It is not something which you most likely need a lot, but it is a good tool to
have available.

after rebooting the phone, do the 2 finger quadruple tap and you should find it
in the quick settings if you left it turned on in VoiceOver Recognition.
Then it might show up in the settings ... this is not one of Apple's better
attempts at a feature.

Subject: Screen Recognition and Quick Settings, mystery sort of cleared up

First, Screen Recognition came in with iOS 14 though it was seldom talked about
until iOS 15.

To have it show up in Quick Settings, you have to first turn it on under
Settings, Accessibility, VoiceOver, VoiceOver Recognition.
If it is not on there, it will not be in Quick Settings.

I tested this by turning it off under VoiceOver Recognition and sure enough, it
disappeared from Quick Settings.
When I turned it back on in VoiceOver Recognition, I had to reboot the phone
before it showed up again in quick Settings. Not sure why, but that is what I
did.

My recommendation is don’t have it in the rotor, but just in quick settings.
There are other settings you may find it better to have in Quick Settings
instead of in the Rotor.

Once again to review, quick Settings is launched with a 2 finger quadruple tap.
It functions like the rotor, but since you have to be more intentional about
bringing it up, you won’t find yourself changing voice speaking rate when you
wanted to jump by headings, etc.

You can also enable Screen Recognition for specific apps once you figure out it
helps in that app by going into VoiceOver Recognition, Screen Recognition and
double tapping on apps, and selecting the apps for which you want it to default
to on.
