Mark, this is a brilliant technique! I have also tried using it in emails and
have just sent around the results!

Hi everyone,
I updated my ipad to iPadOS16.4 & that's the device which was experiencing the
issue with Voiceover & the appStore subscriptions page.
Now that both devices are running 16.4, I'm able to access it perfectly on
both.
So, if you're still having the issue, make sure all devices are running the
beta of 16.4.

Thanks,
Jessica

Re: Important, No Text Verifications

2023-03-05 Thread Chris Chaffin
My carrier is Verizon, but I would think this could happen with any carrier
that use spam filters to catch as much spam as they can. The Representative
told me that there was something that was not turned on for my account that
should have been. I was told that this should not happen anymore. Maybe that
is true, but my confidence is not 100%.

For anyone that experiences this, the first thing they should do is to do the
normal restarts, check all of the necessary settings, and do a network restore,
because our phones do have unexplained clitchs, and one of these might be the
problem. After I exhausted all of this, I then called my carrier and talked to
the technical support department. I am now kind of glad it was my carrier,
because if it wasn't, then I was totally out of ideas.

Re: Apple Music

2023-03-05 Thread Chris Chaffin
Hi,

First question, is your Apple Music a single subscription or family
subscription? Your wife would only be able to access it if you have a family
subscription.
You could check settings under your name, you will find subscriptions, or if
you know what you pay, single subscription is $10.99, family subscription is
$16.99.

RE: Mute Switch Always Says "Unmuted"

2023-03-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
As davy said, it makes no difference which version of iOS you run as this was
not an issue related to iOS but something Apple fixed in the background/on
their servers. With the App Store this has happened before, I can't remember
exactly what and when it was, quite a few years ago, but just as with Siri
there can sometimes be issues which Apple can fix and which have no connection
to the version of iOS you run.

I found this most interesting. I think it started in iOS 16, but maybe
not. If I move the switch on the side of the phone, either way VoiceOver
says "unmuted." It does this on n XS, a 12 Pro Max and a 14 Pro Max.
However, even though VO says "unmuted" for both positions, the phone
sounds are definitely muted when the switched is moved to the back of
the phone, and restored when moved to the front. Anyone else ever notice
this?

I don't either. If I flip my mute switch one way, I hear muted, if I
flip it back, I hear unmuted. I've got a 13 pro max updated to the
latest version.

Steve,
That is most interesting and you should probably investigate why this is
happening just for you. It seems unlikely that all three of the devices you
mentioned have hardware issues so it must be something with their settings. As
others have reported, VoiceOver speaks muted and unmuted correctly on my iPhone
13 Mini when the switch is activated or deactivated.

It sounds like a call to Apple Accessibility is needed: 877-204-3930 24/7
My 13 pro says muted and unmuted like always. I do not find any settings
related to the mute switch, but Apple Accessibility would be able to figure
this one out.

RE: How To Translate Text in an Edit Field, with VoiceOver Enabled, in iOS 16.3

2023-03-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
It is as good as it is, but obviously I assume you don't speak Japanese (in
your example) so you have no idea how good the translation is. Just keep in
mind that I have seen some pretty weird translations between English and German
or the other way around and these are languages I am fluent in so I can tell.
My recommendation is that if you want to do this that you use simple language
and simple, short sentences.

And with Apple Music there is also the difference in subscription, do you have
a personal Apple Music account or do you have the slightly more expensive Apple
Music Family account? You need the family version to share.

Commenting in Facebook

2023-03-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Just to get this straight, can people who don't run the iOS 16.4 Public Beta
still comment in Facebook?
I thought I saw posts from people who are on 16.3 saying they also can't
comment in Facebook currently, i.e. you tap on comment and the edit field comes
up, but no keyboard comes up, a 2-finger double tap does not work to start
dictation nor can you use a Bluetooth keyboard as a work-around.

Steve,
That is most interesting and you should probably investigate why this is
happening just for you. It seems unlikely that all three of the devices you
mentioned have hardware issues so it must be something with their settings. As
others have reported, VoiceOver speaks muted and unmuted correctly on my iPhone
13 Mini when the switch is activated or deactivated.

My 13 pro says muted and unmuted like always. I do not find any settings
related to the mute switch, but Apple Accessibility would be able to figure
this one out.

Zoom App Help

2023-03-05 Thread Edward Przybylek
Hi all,

I used the Zoom app at the beginning of the pandemic for doctor's visits and
such but I haven't really used it since then. I needed to use the app a few
days ago but ran into a problem I can't solve. Once getting into the app
for a particular meeting, I get a message informing me that I need to enable
audio before I can join the meeting. I'm told to click a button which takes
me to a screen where I can press another button to enable audio. The
problem is that immediately after tapping the second button, I'm returned to
the previous screen where I'm instructed to enable audio. Pressing the
button to enable audio simply continues the same behavior. Has anyone run
into this problem? If so and you've found a solution, I'd really like to
hear how you did it. As always, any help is greatly appreciated. Stay
well.

Take care,

Ed Przybylek

Re: Issue with most Recent update of Audible app

2023-03-05 Thread Wayne Merritt
Hi. For those interested in sending feedback to Audible, they have a
customer service number in the US. Not sure if it also works in
Canada. The number is 888-283-5051. I have called them a few times
before, and in the opening message where they give the list of
options, they say something like, "If you are visually impaired and
need help with the Audible app, press 1." I can't think of too many
other companies that have an option like this in their phone tree. I
had an instance come up where I had to talk with some from option 1,
and I found them extremely helpful.

Regards,
Wayne
