I'm not sure what the default size is, but I had it at 100% and reduced it
to 67% and now the System Haptic on / off button shows. Thanks much.

It is at the default. Since I am totally blind, I never activated the larger
fonts under accessibility, display and font size. But when I was teaching
low-vision users they often needed to increase the font size and I ran into
that issue. Also, folks who use the zoom feature under accessibility would
experience that.

  Mike,
I'm glad that worked. Depending on font sizes and such, sometimes screens
just don't scroll when you are just flicking right with one finger. But,
I've found that the three finger swipe up always works.

That is very odd. System haptecs is the next one down. I assume you
tried flicking up with three fingers to scroll the screen.
Perhaps calling Apple Accessibility and having them do a screen share
with you to figure out what is happening.
Good luck,

That is very odd. System haptecs is the next one down. I assume
you tried flicking up with three fingers to scroll the screen.
Perhaps calling Apple Accessibility and having them do a screen share with
you to figure out what is happening.
Good luck,

folding quiet bluetooth keyboard

2023-06-22 Thread dlmlaochi
A while back I saw an iClever keyboard and thought it was pretty
well-designed. Can anybody comment on these keyboards, or is there another
one people like better for any reason? I will want to use it with iOS but
also with my BS6 Android tablet, which will be a definite experiment.

Voice Dream Reader and Family sharing

2023-06-22 Thread leobado1982
Hello. Someone I know is having issues with Voice Dream Reader and family
sharing. This person bought VDR time ago when it was acquired through
one-time payment. However, now he wants to share VDR but a message pops up
saying that it is not possible. Is anyone having this issue?

Best,

Leo Bado

Subject: Seeking Suggestions for a Good Breaking News App for iOS that will
send push notifications for topics or a specific story currently in the News

Hello Everyone,

Okay, I spent over 2 hours, last night, trying to locate a good VoiceOver
accessible news app that will allow for push notifications to be sent to my
phone based on specific topics.

For example, during the past couple of days I have wanted to get breaking news
updates on this missing Titanic submersible story without having to open an app
and searching for it.

1.
I already have the Google News app, installed and it is great for configuring
very specific alerts based on key words but it, as far as I can tell, only
sends notifications via email. Not good.

2.
I also have the USA Today app installed and I like it but I do not see any
options for allowing device push notifications. I would be willing to pay for
such a feature but do not want to pay for a subscription only to discover that
the feature does not exists.

3.
I installed the Associated Press app only to discover that it is not a very
VoiceOver accessible solution; at least, not on my beloved iPad Pro.

4.
I would be more than willing to pay for Apple News Plus if only it offered such
a push notification feature but, as far as I know, it does not. If someone
knows how to configure Apple News to push notifications for updates regarding
only a specific story, please let me know.

As always, all replies greatly appreciated.

Mark

RE: Don't Forget About the Excellent Level App that is Part of iOS 16

2023-06-22 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Actually, level is part of the Measure app as Mark pointed out in his post. The
Measure app could be in a folder called Utilities or it could be elsewhere
depending on how you set up your phone and arrange your apps.

If you don't want to pay for an app then the Seeing AI app from Microsoft is a
good option. In fact, any blind person should have this app on their phone as
it has many so-called "Channels" which are extremely useful. First you have the
"Short Text" channel which reads anything you point the camera at on the fly
and more or less instantly. Often that is what I use first if I want to know
where a letter is from or what a particular piece of paper says. I have to
actually try this, but I don't think you necessarily have to have the page
right side up, it would read it upside down just the same.

Then there is the Document channel where you take an actual picture, i.e. if
you put your iPhone flat on the page and lift up about 10 or 12 inches the
picture is taken automatically once the page edges are detected. This is then
so you can review the text and you have a Share buton at the bottom right which
lets you do all the usual stuff like send it via email, save it to Files or, if
you have it, Dropbox, OneDrive etc.

You also have a Handwriting channel which is still in "preview" mode,, but it
actually does a pretty good job if the handwriting is half way decent.

Furthermore you have a Product channel which recognizes barcodes on products,
you have a "Light" channel which is a light detector, there is a cash reader
channel for recognizing paper money and a few others.

The Seeing AI app is on my first home screen as I use it regularly and often.

,My first choice would be VDScan, formerly known as Voice Dream Scanner. I
believe it is still $9.99. You can scan each side and then save it as one
document and export it to yourself via email etc.

It is the best app for saving multiple pages as one document.

What app might I use to read this letter. Any possibility to scan all four

Thank you.

Where can I find the level app on my iPhone? Very interesting post, I had no

Seeking Suggestions for a Good Breaking News App for iOS that will send push notifications for topics or a specific story currently in the News

2023-06-22 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

Okay, I spent over 2 hours, last night, trying to locate a good VoiceOver
accessible news app that will allow for push notifications to be sent to my
phone based on specific topics.

For example, during the past couple of days I have wanted to get breaking
news updates on this missing Titanic submersible story without having to
open an app and searching for it.

1.
I already have the Google News app, installed and it is great for
configuring very specific alerts based on key words but it, as far as I can
tell, only sends notifications via email. Not good.

2.
I also have the USA Today app installed and I like it but I do not see any
options for allowing device push notifications. I would be willing to pay
for such a feature but do not want to pay for a subscription only to
discover that the feature does not exists.

3.
I installed the Associated Press app only to discover that it is not a very
VoiceOver accessible solution; at least, not on my beloved iPad Pro.

4.
I would be more than willing to pay for Apple News Plus if only it offered
such a push notification feature but, as far as I know, it does not. If
someone knows how to configure Apple News to push notifications for updates
regarding only a specific story, please let me know.

As always, all replies greatly appreciated.

Mark

The app is actually called Measure; there is a Level tab. Use this
semi-frequently and it works quite well.
