Re: Kindle to braille or audio

2024-07-09 Thread Tom Lange
I’ve used the Kindle app on my iPhones since 2011 with a BrailleNote Apex, a BrailleSense U2 and my current BrailleSense 6. Reading Kindle books in Braille is great. When I hear about an interesting book I’ll see if Bookshare has it, and if not, I head straight to the Kindle store. TomOn Jul 8, 2024, at 1:02 PM, Dan wrote:

Wow!!! I installed the Kendal app on my
phone and got the book.  I used my NLS EReader in braille
display mode and was able to read the book very nicely.  I never
thought it would work so well.

Thanks to all who suggested this method.

The Kindle app on iOs works very well with
VoiceOver. I have well over two thousand Kindle books on my
iPhone. I can read them using my Braille display connected via
Bluetooth to my iPhone. Also, I can simply have VoiceOver read
the book continuously. I wrote instructions on this in my own
free book. The Kindle app has a menu system for navigating a
book. Once you open a book, the text totally covers the screen.
Double tapping on it will bring up the menu. Use the "close
book" option to return to the library. The "exit" option gets
you out of the menu and back into the book text. There's a table
of contents menu within the main menu which lets you jump around
in the book. Lots of othr nice features as well. The rotor works
too so you can move by character, word, and line to find out how
things are spelled. A two finger swipe downward on the book text
will start continuous reading. Hope that gets you started.

  Hi all,

My wife has been reading a book that she would really
like me to read.  However, it is only available on
Kindle.  What is the best way to read a book like this?
I have seen folks discussing Kindle on Windows and IOS
but am also wondering about converting it to braille or
audio.

What is the best and cheapest way to approach this?

  Thanks for any ideas.

Re: Voice Control Question

2024-07-09 Thread Feliciano Godoy
I think this is one of those scenarios where ignorance is bliss and the
employee was trying to help to the best of his knowledge. Assuming that your
friend can properly execute gestures, voiceover screen reader and Siri will
take her a long way when accessing the phone.

If there are difficulties using gestures to go to the home screen app switcher
etc., your friend can customize voiceover gestures so it can be more intuitive
for her. For example, she can create adjuster so that she can do a two finger
swipe left to go to the home screen and two finger swipe right to go to the app
switcher. I personally use these gestures because it's more efficient and
recommend them to many people that have modern iPhone.

RE: Voice Control Question

2024-07-09 Thread Carolyn Arnold
People do get mixed up about Voicre Control and Voiceover. Over the years, I've
told one that I needed a device to talk to me; I did not need to talk to a
device.

I think the sales person was confused with voice control and voiceover. No,
using voice control is a lot more difficult when using voiceover unless you use
headphones.
