Just rename it... rename the m4a file to m4r.
The format is the same.

Hi Jed,

Sorry, I did download the zip folder with the ringtones from the link Mark
provided. I hadn't even checked to see what format they were in but just
assumed they were in iTunes/iPhone format since Mark mentioned somebody had
already done all the work. As Cara pointed out, any tone that is not in AAC
format (Apple Audio Codex) has to be converted first before you can rename it.
The generic music/audio extension for this format is M4A and Apple uses various
versions of this extension to indicate whether an audio file is a song,
ringtone, audio book etc. Anything with M4A is treated just as audio/a song.
M4R indicates a ringtone, M4B an audio book.

So, basically you will have to find an audio converter application or use a free online conversion website
like http://audio.online-convert.com/convert-to-m4a. I just tried that one and it's pretty simple and
straight forward, of course, it is one file/tone at a time and I believe there was over 100 tones in that
zipped file. Anyhow, the link I provided should straight away open the page for converting to M4A, just use
the button quick nav key to find the "browse" button, browse to the file you want to convert,
select it and then find the "Convert" button. The file will upload and convert, then check your
information bar as it should pop up with a notice asking whether you want to download the newly converted
tone. Select "Save" and the M4A file will be put in your downloads folder. Now you can rename it
and follow the steps I described in my first email which explain how you get it into your tones library in
iTunes and then sync it to your phone.

Maybe Mark will be so kind as to batch convert all the tones, rename them and
to post a new zip file in his Dropbox.

Regards,
Sieghard

Hi John and Jed.

John, Jed has already said that he has tried putting the ringtones in his Tones
folder.

Jed, in order for your ringtones to show up as tones, remember, they must be
forty seconds or under, and they must have the file extension m4r.

So if these tones are mp3 tones, they must be first converted to Apple’s AAC
format and then the extension of each file should be changed from m4a to m4r.

If the sound files are already in AAC format and have the m4a extension, you
can simply rename the file and change its extension to m4r.

Once you do this, the files in your Tones folder should show up for you as
ringtones in iTunes.

You can then sync these to your phone.

I hope this helps.

Cheers!

Cara

It absolutely is and it is by far the best OCR app for a blind person. Before
it was out a few very experienced iPhone users were very skeptical, but I think
even those people are all convinced that KNFB Reader blows everything else out
of the water. At $50 it is a bargain and if you were able to pick up a couple
of iTunes gift cards in December for 20% off you would in fact now get it for
$40.

Well it does work with nvda.
I am a user of window-eyes too, but I must say that in the last years

Often nvda hugely surpasses we, expecially in web content.

I am using Window-Eyes and browse mode is completely useless. All I

If I turn browse mode off and tab, I can get to the links for the app I
searched for, but I can no longer navigate to the description, what’s
new section, etc.

Don’t think it matters, but this is Win 8.1 and Window-Eyes 9.

At least with iTunes 12, I could toggle browse mode on and off and then
get to the app and read the page just like I was in a web page.

Now, the only thing I can do is tab between links. I cannot get to the
headings or text…

It appears Apple is intent on making iTunes less and less accessible on
Windows computers.

Hello everyone,

Maybe some of you already know this app but I just wanted to bring it to your
attention. It is called moovit.
I don't know yet how reliable it is but all the information about schedules and
directions are completely accessible. Before this one I had used transit but I
foundit lacking. This app is also integrated in Blindsquare

Many interesting features such as alerting you when it is time to get off the
bus on your selected route.
Here is the link:
Moovit: Live Transit App for Bus Train Metro TTC Subway with Map Schedules and

Hope this is of interest to some of you. All the best,

*Subject:* RE: Ringtones Again

Hi Gary,

You can import it into iTunes easily enough, but you can’t use an
MP3 ringtone on your iPhone, it will have to be converted to M4A
format and then renamed with an M4R extension.

In order to add it to your iTunes music library (it will be
recognized by iTunes as a song), it’s probably just the easiest if
you copy it into the “Automatically add to iTunes” folder which is
located in your iTunes media folder. Let me know if uyou need more
specific instructions, but I just assume you know how to find your
iTunes Media and automatically Add to iTunes folder and that you
know how to copy and paste the ringtone.

Make sure iTunes is closed first, then copy it and open iTunes.
iTunes should move the ringtone automatically to your music folder
and add it to your music library, you’ll have to find it there. If
it has no ID3 tags, it will most likely be at the very bottom of
your list of songs.

Now, as for converting it:

First go to “Edit” and “Preferences” and tab down in the General
tab to “Import”. Activate the button and make sure the setting is
“AAC Encoder”.

Next, when you are on the ringtone, right click on it and arrow
down to “Create AAc Version” and press enter. This will make an
M4A version of your rington which should be right underneath the
original version.

Now right click on that one and select “show in Windows Explorer”
from the menu. This will open the folder where the ringtone is
located, most likely your music folder in iTunes Media and put you
right on it.

I recommend you cut the song from there and then go to your Tones
or ringtones folder and paste it here.

Now you have to rename the extension from M4A to M4R. Most likely
your extensions will be hidden, in order to show them go to
“Tools” and “Folder Options” when you are in the Ringtones folder,
Control+Tab once to the “View” tab, tab twice to put focus into
the treeview of options and then page down. This should put you on
or close to the entry you want. You may have to arrow down once or
twice, in any way, arrow around until you find the following entry:

Hide extensions for known file types – On

You can toggle this on and off by pressing the space bar. If it is
on, press space once so it’s off, then tab twice to the “OK”
button and activate it.

Now when you are on your ringtone, you should hear its name and
the extension. For example, if the ringtone is called “Office
Phone Modern”, you would hear “Office Phone Modern.m4a”. You can
now use F2 to rename the file, most important is that you have to
make sure to change the letter A at the end to an R, it should
read “Office Phone Modern.m4r” to use my example.

Once that has been accomplished, you can go back to Tools and
folder Options, Control+Tab, tab twice into the treeview and find
the “Hide extensions for known file types” again, change it back
to “On” with the spacebar and select “OK”.

Lastly, when you are back on your new M4R ringtone, press enter on
it, that should start it playing in iTunes and that action will
automatically make sure it is added to your tones library.

You are now ready to sync it to your phone. If you have iTunes
already set up to sync all tones, you just have to initiate a
sync. If you haven’t synced any tones or have it set to sync only
selected tones, you have to connecrt your phone, go to your
device, then tab into the list view which starts with “Summary”
and find Tones. Now tab until you get to the checkbox to “Sync
tones”, check it and tab on to either “Sync All Tones” or “Sync
Selected tones”. If you choose to sync selected tones, you have to
also tab into the listview of tones and find the ones you want,
check them by pressing the spacebar and then do a sync.

I know this all sounds very complicated, but it really is not so
hard once you do it a few times. If you don’t want to go through
all the steps to rename the ringtone, just send it to me as an
attachment, you can use siegh...@live.ca
and I

To do the trick is to ask Seri what the temperature is.

In the lower right hand corner pass the times of the day with
the temperature there is a weather channel button.

Click on the button that will open the internet or safari.

Once you open safari, hit the home button to close out of the

desktop as I like to call it lol.

I have the Iphone 6+. Not sure if this will work on other
phones.

I mean like the 5S and 6.

Hi,

Having seen this app mentioned here, I decided, it being free!!! to
download it and take it for a spin on my 6 running 8.3.

Once I enabled the camera and turned on the flash, I took a shot of a dog
magazine and then did the same with the KNFB Reader app. I have to tell you
that, on this one example, this free and tiny app, did as well as the very
expensive KNFB reader. I am, by the way, not knocking the latter app, merely
wanting to encourage people to give it a try, especially if the KNFB is too
pricy for you.

The are a few things that could be improved with the interface. If it were possible to simplify and
automate rthat than having to press extra buttons, such as the "done" button, I would say we have
an outstanding winner! Always with the proviso that I have only tried it using one example. I liked the way
that the app told me that all 4 edges were visible without me needing to use a "field of view
report" button. Plus, I did try opting for the "automatic" option in settings, but couldn't
see how to use it. The 6 page intro seems a bit lacking and I don't understand why, and on this other apps
are equally guilty, there seems to be a need for multipage introductions, generally saying nothing of use and
yet requiring the use of the page switching button, a thing that often does not work properly.

I shall play with this more, but would like to know, as it is so small, do
I have to have internet connectivity? Plus, the choice of using VOs built in
voices would be nice as I, for example, can understand Danniel much easier than
any other voice.

So, as a first impression I would suggest to anyone to give it a try,
costs nothing and has been designed for the love of doing it and helping.

 Sandy.

Re: Heart Rate monitors

I would suggest the Polar H7 sensor... the app that comes with the
product is barely accessible but you can use other appes if you need
more features. For me, the native app is enough for my needs.

Regarding the apps that monitor the rate trought the finger... well
its ok if you need just to know ina certain moment what is your rate,
but not for following a training session.

Re: Looktel Money Reader problem

Well its a long time they are out, so maybe there should be an update...
And now the new 20 euro is out too, so if the app developers will not
update the app, we will end with a program that does not read 2 of the
most important banknotes.

I guess I actually have five buttons, since I wasn't counting the
on/off button, but other than turning the headset on and off, this
button doesn't do anything. I think the other difference is that the
volume up/down and Fast forward/Rewind buttons are sliders, so I just
consider each slider to be one button. For example, to mute a call I
push the volume button in the up position and the FF/Rew button in the
rewind position and hold for a second. When you release these buttons
they pop back into the middle position. The manual calls these jots. I
hope that makes sense. I don't think I did a good job of describing that!

I assume their all plastic, but I suppose the thicker pieces in the
front where the buttons are located and the ear buds retract into could
be some kind of metal. They feel like a hard shiny plastic to me though.

I should have mentioned, the lag is great. I've tried them on both my
iPhone 5 and my Samsung S7, and I barely notice any lag at all, even
using the on screen keyboard.

I've found out that lag is a tricky business. My Aftershokx Bluez have
no noticeable lag on my iPhone 4S, but they're barely usable on my
Samsung S7. I'm guessing this may be because of the better performance
of the S7 over my aging iPhone. Like I said, my LG HBS810's have very
little lag on either phone.

On 31/12/16 06:49, englishride...@gmail.com wrote:

really astounded at all the functions I could perform with my 700. Lol I
need to make a little cheat sheet of where the buttons are, and all the
functions I can perform with the headset.

Is the 810 plastic or metal? I was looking at the 1100 on Amazon
yesterday, and found out that it's made of some kind of metal. My 700 is
all plastic. Also, how's the lag on your 810? I have to test my 700 again,
since I haven't used it in quite a while, but I seem to remember the lag
not being too bad.

I can access with just four buttons. I like all of the features, but it

four buttons to access all of those features! I can't speak to their

I believe the 10 suffix of the model number (such as the 910) indicates
a design with an additional microphone was added to improve transmitted

Despite my belief they are trying to improve the design, I do have to
acknowledge that anything with moving parts is more likely to break;

I would second, or third, the votes for BlindSquare. Though it is not
specifically an app to give direction from Point A to Point B, you can
use BlindSquare to get information about your environment, in
conjunction with Apple/Google Maps to get directions, or to look up
other information like menus from many restaurants. Also, it is
updated fairly often with fixes and new features. I recall seeing in
the last update that their Open Street Map data was updated, whatever
that means. If you want something more "blindness specific" which will
tell you exactly where the door of a business is locate relative to
you, then go for one of the other more expensive apps. BlindSquare
works for me and suits my purposes.

Another consideration is where in the world you are located. You do not
say
and this is an important consideration for anyone asking for app
recommendations. Nearby Explorer is only currently available in North
America while the other two have maps for other parts of the world. Also,
you do not say if you need the app in a language other than English.
Nearby

I agree with Mike, although I don't have a lot of experience with
Seeing Eye; it's price alone of $300 is a great deal more than the $80
of Nearby Explorer.

I believe the support for Seeing Eye may be better (in that you can
pick up a phone and call someone, or email their support department),
where-as Nearby Explorer's only support is a mailing list (nothing
else). The lack of support is perhaps my only significant criticism
offered for Nearby Explorer.

If money is very important, you can try the $20 Blind Square ... not
my favorite because the maps it uses for intersections are "free" ones
created by volunteers, and so often quite incorrect, bu

the galaxy s8 sold in the u.s. surely has galileo compatibility

I am not sure about the version sold in europe because I don't find good
info about that version, wich I have in my possession :)

hi Andreya,
While you are correct, from everything I have read, the accuracy is still much
greater than the other alternatives. I mean, as we speak, now!

I believe it runs on the Sanson galaxy, but I'm open to correction here, there
might not even be such a thing as a Sampson galaxy, I don't know. however, this
might be the very thing that will push me onto the android platform.

ahh ha, but if Galileo lives up to its claims, we should get enough position to
actually take us to a given door! this all comes down to clocks on satellites
and our access to decimal points. Galileo gives us access to many more decimal
points, thus, we can expect much much greater accuracy from it. what's more,
Galileo is up and running and has been since January. it has, already, greatly
improved search and rescue response times. Galileo is the only non-military GPS
system, at the moment. for this reason, restrictions of accuracy do not apply.
so, if anyone can find out more, particularly as to which devices can use it,
do please let us know!

No GPS is accurate enough to tell you exactly where the door is located.
That is where your cane skills come in, not to mention the willingness to ask
passers-by.
Or, open the door you find and ask if it is the correct location.
GPS is to supplement good travel skills, no one should depend on it entirely.

Nearby
explorer supports only English while Blind Square supports more than 20
languages. English though is an international language spoken throughout
