Another big changes that you will not find any punctuation symbols such as a
# or @ on the main screen. These are now available in the number screen
only.

There was no manual. I just played around with the app and the website to
get the subtitles working. This will not be a good way of watching a movie
with subtitles using voice over.

I am waiting for something on the audio description feature.

I’ll keep you posted when I hear something,

That lady had a test version of the app. That track isn't released yet, I
guess, but that track *is* available as an mp3 from

www.solo-dx.com

At least, I think that's the link, You can buy it there for a buck or so.

but the deal with MovieREading is that you are supposed to be able to get
the tracks for free, but you can only play those inside the app. There's
advantages to MP3s and the app way of doing things.

You do the compatibility test first by creating an account in Moviereading
or on the web site

www.moviereading.com

After you get to the www.moviereading.com web site, click on How it Works.

Then, wait. Go to the app and click n Market

Click on Compatibility tEst for MOvieReading and download the English
subtitle. There is no audio description track for this movie.

Then, once it's done, click on the movie in the My Movies tab. Then click on
the Play button on the computer, and click OK to let it sync on your
idevice. Then you can read the titles by scrolling with your fingers pretty
quickly back and forth with speech or you can use a Braille display, You
still have to do fancy fingerwork, but it's quieter with Braille.

VDR supports Daisy text and audio, MP3 audio books, text, pdf, epub, MS Word,

and a couple other sources directly in the app (iTunes requires a computer, of

Hi Pablo,

First of all, it is not true that you have to transfer DAISY books to
Read2Go using iTunes file sharing. Since the latest release (version
1.0.3.10) in May 2013, Read2Go has supported the "Open In" feature. This is
a feature I had requested ever since Read2Go was first released. There is a
podcast demonstration by David Woodbridge demonstrating the transfer of
DAISY text books from Vision Australia through Dropbox and using the "Open
In" feature to direct the book to be opened in Read2Go, I have transferred
eBooks including DAISY text formatted books into both Read2Go and Voice
Dream Reader this way without ever having to use iTunes file sharing. For
example, DRM-free eBooks I have purchased from O'Reilly Books are available
for download under my account at their web site in a variety of formats
(ePub, PDF, Mobi, DAISY, etc.). When I activate a download link on my iPhone
by double tapping, I'm offered the option to "Open In" a default app (for
DAISY, this is Read2Go on my iPhone, so one button is "Open in Read2Go"; for
ePub, the default is "Open in IBooks") or to "Open in." and then a range of
supporting apps on my device, if I double tap that button.

Secondly, while it is true that Read2Go offers better support for reading
and navigating through books with Braille devices than Voice Dream Reader,
it only supports English text-to-speech voices. Voice Dream Reader, in
addition to supporting many more document formats, lets you read your text
with TTS voices in many other languages, including NeoSpeech voices, which
are very nice. When I use the purchased voices, PDFs that include accented
characters are pronounced correctly. This is not true if you read these
PDFs in iBooks with the default voices. It's not so noticeable if you only
read in languages that either don't used Roman letters, or if you only read
in English, where accented characters are infrequently used. Also, this
doesn't happen if you read ePub versions of the same text. You can still
recognize most of the words, even if they are mispronounced, so if you don't
care about having to check the accented words character by character to
check the spelling, or you have access to these documents in another format,
this feature may not be important to you.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

Ive not added daisy text books via iTunes to Voice Dream

I have only used BookShare for that.

I added these files been in zip, as I did with read2go, it is

Two more things:

Much better support to since it is created by a
developer who responds quickly to user feedback.

And, with the latest version, you can use any of the
VoiceOver built-in voices.

The only thing that read 2 go does better than Voice
Dream is if you are using a braille display. Apparently read 2 go is easier to
use that way. But, otherwise, Voice Dream is far better in every other way.

The advantage to it is that it support Daisy audio, but I think the Voice Dream

Voice Dream offers many voices, most for a few
dollars each, and can read books from Bookshare, Google Drive, Dropbox, and
more. It is much easier to control playback, it supports folders, it opens a
wider range of file formats, and it has basic support for mp3 audio books (not
the same as daisy audio). As mentioned, Voice Dream offers a free trial, which
is fully-featured except it will only read a few seconds of a book at a time.

I sent him my database and it worked fine on his device.

My apologies for causing anyone to delay upgrading.

Hi Cara,

I think there are many millions of users out there who will probably
disagree. I listened to the Today in iOS Podcast tonight and most of the
calls that came in were very positive. Granted, many were about the 5S, but
iOS 7 was also mentioned a lot. One older lady did mention the contrast
thing. Anyhow, I guess we are stuck with it and while Apple may listen and
improve the readability, I doubt they do a 180 and bring the old look back.
My guess is that they will tweek this and improve upon it so let's hope they
will fix it so that our iOS groups list owner doesn't have to be ashamed
*smile*.

The 5S by the way gets pretty awesome reviews and apparently totally kicks
butt in all the benchmark tests.

It is also not to be overlooked that Apple sold 9 million iPhones worldwide
on the first weekend, some of them apparently are still in chanel which
means not yet in the hands of the end user, and they do have a couple of
large new carriers, but given the shortages in many places it does sound
like a pretty impressive number.

Regards,
Sieghard

Actually, I think they were targeting the female population with the new

female iPhone users. The teenagers are probably Android users as young males

are more likely to want to tinker with the OS and hardware. ...At some point

the user of electronics matures and grows out of the curiosity and simply

Hi Cara,

Funny you should say that. I was told The very same thing a couple of days
ago. My friend told me he is almost ashamed to be seen with his phone. He
says it looks like a toy that was designed for a kid. We know that Apple
was going for a look that would please the younger generation but it seems
like they don't even like it. I was told that the contrast is horrible and
the font is just as bad.

I am total so I don't really care but I have to say that this is not what I
was expecting from Apple.

Unfortunately, I must agree with the assertion that 7 is just plain ugly.

A number of sighted friends have described the 'new' look, each in their own
way, (as well as their difficulties with using it) and it just seems to me
that for whatever reason, Apple just essentially abandoned all the upscale
chic look and feel of iOS for what I can only describe as a thrown together
gaudy amateurish look.

For as much polish as the parallax effect has, the rest of the OS is so
overly scaled down as to be just plain ugly.

Just to illustrate one basic example, now what are being read by VO as
buttons, in some cases, are simply a very light grey word on a white
background. There are no borders making this look like a button, no
indication that this item should be tapped to be activated and no really
definite way to tell if the button is active or not. The font is so thin as
to make it difficult to read and as I said, pretty much impossible to
distinguish between being active or inactive.

This is absolutely awful and inconsiderate for people with any kind of
visual difficulties at all. Not to mention just the major change in user
interface paradigm.

I have absolutely no idea what Apple was thinking with this one and quite
frankly, it makes me ashamed.

This is just not

Hi all,

His anyone had any success with IOS 7 on an iPhone 4? Is it sluggish
or does it work quite normally?

Thank you for any info you can give me before I attempt the upgrade.
