That's great, Traci, thanks.

I'll listen to the podcast and have the band and the tracker with me and
reread your description. You did better than I would have.

Thanks

One thing I recommend is to go over to appleVis and search for fitbit flex.
David Woodbridge did an excellent podcast on the flex.

Explaining how to put the device inside the band might be difficult, but
actually doing it is pretty easy. ;) I'll give it a try.

The device has a slanted side where the lights flash. The top side of the
band has a hard plastic strip that feels like a little window. You want the
slanted side of the device going up into that little window. So the lights
flash through it. So I wriggle the device up into that side first, then,
gently press the other end of the device up into the other side.

:) That wasn't a very good description. Definitely listen to David's
podcast. He'll describe how to hold the band device in your hand.

Good luck,
Traci

I love list Recorder but haven’t tried it for this purpose yet. I’ll be sure to

There’s also dropvox which is accessible. It automatically saves the file to

Subject: A recorder app that saves files to drop box

Hi, I think someone on this list was wondering some time ago about a recording
app that would save files to drop box. As one of the developers of List
Recorder, I should have remembered this, but I didn’t have time to refresh my
memory. It is possible to do easily.

After you have recorded a file and while still in that file, Click on Share,
and then on Audio options. You then click on “Open in,” and all the aps that
will allow this file to be opened in it will appear in a list. So, you might
get other recording apps if you have them, but drop box is also in the list.
You then click on Save to drop box.

One warning. When you click on Audio options, it takes a while for the list of
all apps to populate, depending on how many you have, but it will eventually
give you the list, and perhaps quite quickly if you don’t have 6 other
recording apps as I do.

Sorry I did not get to this sooner. I hope it helps someone.

Neal

RE: game questions, iAssociate 2

2014-02-18 Thread Catherine Mahony
I don't really try and keep track of the thread/chain though I'd like to if
I could. I find it enough when Vo reads: Associated with Chinese food and
rice, or whatever the particular example is.

Having said that, when you go to the hints button, is there a quick way to
get back to the word you were on and want to use the hint on?

Anyway, I agree, fun and addictive and worth the little glitches - though if
they could be sorted that would be even better!

I'll check my voice-over settings in the game's settings too. Thanks for
that tip!

I know I'm late on the reply on this thread. After you complete a certain
number of levels, like 20 or 25, many of the game's associated start to get
obvious and repetative, for instance cat to dog, cow to milk to cheese, and
mouse to cheese are some of the many frequent associations throughout the
levels. I originally tried to only get levels I thought I could complete
easily, but have found that levels I thought would be easy were hard, and
vice versa. Some answers I get my wife to look up. Still, it is a very fun
and addictive game, and the only game that i have played for over a year and
continue to play.

hard such as Bonus Land as you can not guess the word by guessing one

For those of you who play it, what is the best way to keep track of a

at times when it comes to what is supposed to associate with what, and
lose track of what I'm doing. i've found myself using hints for dumb

Voice Dream Reader with a Braille Display

Written by Nicky on the VIPhone users List

I am using a BrailleNote Apex BT32 and an iPhone 4S, but I hope these basic
instructions will be general enough to work with any Braille display and iOS
device.

1. With a file open in Voice Dream, locate the first element on the screen
by pressing Space with dots 1-2-3 on the Braille keyboard.

2. Move through the various elements using Space with dot 4 or an
equivalent command that may be available if your Braille display has
navigation keys, until you reach the words 'Next item'.

3. You can now start reading the contents of the file by panning the
Braille display to the right in the usual way, i.e. pressing Space with dot
5 or using an equivalent command, if available on your display. Continue to
pan the display to the right until you reach the end of the block of text
that is currently visible. You will know that you have reached the end when
the focus lands on the 'Bookmarks' button.

4. Now pan the Braille display once to the left, using Space with dot 2 or
an equivalent navigation command. This will move the focus back into the
text area, at the beginning of the page you have just read, and the Braille
display will be blank. This step is important; otherwise the Scroll command
in the next step will not work.

5. To scroll to the next page of text, press Space with dots 1-4-5-6. This
is the 'Scroll down one page' command and it is the equivalent of a
'Three-finger swipe up' using VoiceOver on the touchscreen. To scroll up to
the previous page, press Space with dots 3-4-5-6, which is the equivalent of
a 'three-finger swipe down'.

6. Once the Scroll command has been executed, the Braille display briefly
shows the percentage of progress through the file, and then it goes blank.
The focus is placed at the beginning of the next page of text and you can
read it by panning repeatedly to the right in the usual way, until you reach
the 'Bookmarks' button again. Repeat these steps to continue reading
through the file.

NOTE: You will notice that the text overlaps slightly from one page to the
next, so the last few words of the previous page are repeated at the
beginning of the next page.

Happy reading,

Nicky

RE: Question about Reminders

Hello Chris

Thanks. I was aware of the lists but hadn't thought of high priority or
organizing my shopping like that, doh! I might try Remember the Milk and see
how it works with Siri. I love Siri with my reminders and calendar.

Thanks again

Hello,

Sorry, but like you, I have found no wway to have a priority announced by
voice over, or to have reminders listed by priority.

I am not sure if you already know, but you can create different reminder
list.

Like I created a Grocery list that I use when I go shopping. That way you
can check things off as you put them in your cart.

And if there is something that you were not able to get, then it will remain
on the grocery list until you go shopping again.

In the top left corner of the screen, you have a shows lists button.

This will take you to a screen where it contains all of your list.

On the list screen, you can look at a particular list or create a new one.

I guess you could create a High Priority list if you like, and put only high
priority things on that list.

Just a thought!

Seeking some Advice on the Best Apps for Tasks and Reminders

2013-05-01 Thread Catherine Mahony
Hi all

Sorry if this is repetitive but I sent this request yesterday and as I
haven't heard from any of you I'm wondering if you received it. I was
trying to send with Siri and I've only been using it since Tuesday.

Just wondering if any of you can recommend an easy to use app for reminders
and tasks. I like reminders except that I also sometimes like to input tasks
that I think of from my windows PC as well as my iPhone. I also find the app
difficult to navigate on my MacBook Air but that may just be due to my
inexperience. Only had it since last Friday.

I quite like the mobile website for Remember the Milk when I'm using my PC
and really loved the iPhone app but don't find the new version so easy to
use.

I've downloaded Wonderlist on my MacBook but haven't tried it yet.

I'm really bogged down in knowing which app to try and can't give it any
more time at the moment. Meanwhile I'm forgetting and putting off tasks. Can
anyone advise me?

Thanks very much

Some Questions re Syrie

2013-04-22 Thread Catherine Mahony
Hi all

Am thinking about upgrading from my beloved but old iPhone 4 to a 5. Really
keen to access Syrie. Just wanted to check a couple of things out with you
guys as part of my research.

Firstly, does Syrie work in all native apps with Voiceover? Particularly
interested in reminders, calendar, email and messages.

Secondly, have tried a few of the voice dictation apps and like them. Does
anyone know of any that are comparable with Syrie in terms of using them in
the apps I mentioned before? If yes, perhaps I'll put off the upgrade.

Thanks in advance

RE: Two-finger double-tap Re: I have a few questions

2012-07-11 Thread Catherine Mahony
Thanks for all the advice on this issue, listers.

Just tried it and it worked a treat. Think I'd tried when I was a newbie to
the iPhone and the gestures and probably gave up when it didn't work
straight away. Just did it then and it was great. I consider myself very
average with the gestures, so if I can do it ...

Hi,
Try a gentle and soft tabbing!

Some people tab the little phone so hard, causing the phone to shake during
tabbing.

When I first got my iPhone, I had a similar problem. It turns out I had a
lazy finger, I think it was my thumb, and it would kind of droop down a bit
and occasionally brush the screen during a gesture, changing the gesture
altogether! I also found that the fingers holding the iPhone would
occasionally wrap around to the front a bit too much and get picked up as
another finger during a gesture. As Raul said, paying attention to this and
practicing resolved these issues for me.

things. My only suggestion if you want to improve this gesture would
be to do it over and over in the practice area.

My most sincere apologies. I answer call waiting with a two-finger
double-tap. You can also find the answer button on the screen if you
 wish.

 Hi,

From what I found (at least with my 4S), you cannot do two finger
double tap to start a call (unless others have other things to say).
For ending a call, you can double tap with two fingers anywhere on
 the screen.

 Cheers,

Can you double tap the screen with two fingers to start a call?

Is there a certain point on the screen where you should tap?

 Hi,

At least for first question, you can make a call in at least three
 ways:

!--[if !supportLists]--.!--[endif]--Use keypad: dial the phone
number using the phone keypad (from phone app, tap the keypad
button to bring it). After entering the phone number, press the
call button (bottom center between add to contacts and delete
keys).

2012-06-14 Thread Catherine Mahony
That thread was on this list and it was about Domino Train. I downloaded it
and like it, though I may have to write to the list again for a bit of
advice on the finer points.

I'd recommend it but it does say it's based on the Mexican game, so that
might not suit you, Ramy.

Funny, there was a long thread on domino train or some such thing quite
recently, though might have been a different list.

RE: Simplest Way to Convert ITunes music files to mp3or for use on the Victor Reader Stream

2012-05-11 Thread Catherine Mahony
Thanks Thom

Have tried that already, like last week when I was trying to sort this
issue. The copy function works well, just as you suggested, but it doesn't
change the format to an mp3. Sorry might not have been specific enough in my
last email

Thanks for your efforts though Tom

Regards

Hi there,

Try this.

Go to your music library in iTunes. control c to copy, then paste it in a
folder or desktop.

See if that does it and let me know.

Hello again listers

Apologies if this is off topic.

Just wondering how to convert a song which is currently in AAC format to Mp3
for use on the stream. Can't seem to find the option to convert to mp3 in
iTunes, but think I used to be able to.

If you think this is too off topic, can you please email me off list at

Many thanks
