Exporting contacts list
I have an S E 2 running IOS 17.4. In addition to my S E 2, I also have a Blind Shell 2 phone. If possible, I want to export my Iphone contacts list to a .vcf file. 2022 Season NFL audio
I just downloaded the NFL app to my S E 2020 , intending to subscribe to the lower tier package so that I can listen to the audio for any home or away games. Thus far, I have completely struck out to use a baseball analagy. I looked as carefully as I could but found nothing pertaining specifically to audio. There was a question asking the user to list their TV provider. The worst thing, however, is that the app has a significant number of unlabeled buttons. I write in the hope that others can navigate this maze and provide pointers as to how to accomplish my objective. Thanks in advance. follow up - Major S E 2020 problem
On Saturday, I posted a message stating that I no longer had VoiceOver speech on my iPhone S e 2020 although Siri and everything else was still functional. Since I had not yet put VoiceOver volume in the rotor, I had no way without speech to check volume status. I got sighted help to go into Settings, Accessibility, VoiceOver, and Rotor and then turn on VoiceOver volume. VoiceOver is now working as expected. I post this message in case anyone else ever finds themselves in a similar situation. My thanks to all who responded to Saturday's inquiry and especially to Gordon who nailed the problem accurately. Major S E 2020 problems
My S E 2020 is almost non-functional. I will list the major symptoms and hope that I get some educated guesses which will help me resolve the issues. First of all, let me list the things which still work. Siri continues to function. I can make and receive phone calls. I can make the calls by dictating contact names or phone numbers. Although voiceOver is turned on, I have no speech. Even though Siri works, I used the three finger double tap to see whether this altered anything. Since it didn't, I again pressed the three finger double tap. Pressing the side button does not cause the little sound which indicates whether the screen is locked. No speech is heard when I swipe through the icons on the home screen. I intend to call Apple in the morning, but with no verbal feedback, I don't see how I can accept screen sharing. So there you have it. I will be most grateful for suggestions. In conclusion, if I didn't say so previously, the mute switch is not off, and the volume is maxed. I probably should mention that I started first to set up the phone including the network, user name and password, etc., and I realize that I could reset the phone and start from scratch; however, I hope not to have to do that because I am clumsy using the phone's keyboard and work far better when I have a blue tooth keyboard installed. iPhone backups questions
Having just received my new S E 2020, I want to use the most recent backup of my iPHone 6 to install the apps on my new phone. However, I am embarrassed to admit that I don't remember where to find those backups which were automatically performed every two weeks or so. Please tell me step by step how to locate, retrieve, and install said backup on my new S E. Thanks in advance. Several questions regarding newly purchased S E 2020
I am moving from a 6 to an S E 2020. I didn't buy a new sim card as I plan to by coverage with an M V N O. I saved Alan Lemley's steps to transfer info from one iPhone to another but want to know whether I will be unable to accomplish the transfer because the new iPhone has no sim card. Question 2. Does anyone have any strong opinion as to which M V N O gives the best bang for the buck? Don't need a lot of data. Question 3. My understanding is that the S E 2020 has a home button, albeit a simulated home button. So what part of the transition from the 6 to the S E 2020 is likely to give me the most difficulty? Navilens - request clarification regarding tags
I just installed the Navilens app but am a bit confused regarding obtaining the stickers. A few days ago Richard Turner posted a very comprehensive explanation which I somehow lost. So if someone still has that email, please repost it if possible. I am especially interested in getting the Avery labels and the instructions for making them work on my Brother printer. Thanks. editing a contact's phone number
My iPhone 6 is running IOS 12.4.1. I wish to modify a phone number such that three commas are inserted between the phone number and an access code. I don’t find any means of inserting the commas unless perhaps beginning at the last character and using the left arrow to move the cursor back to the appropriate point. Will this work, or is there a better way to accomplish this? Thanks. Don Roberts -- The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list. Siri is speechless
Hello, I have a very strange issue on my iPhone 6 running ios 12.4.1. Voice over is working fine, but I can do absolutely nothing with Siri. Frankly, I am not convinced that the problem is with the iPhone, but I can do nothing if I attempt to dictate.. This is true whether I attempt to get the temperature, dictate a message, etc. I also pressed the home button and said “turn on Siri” with no response. Only once did I get a response to a command. The response I heard was “I’m having trouble.” So ideas please regarding how to trouble shoot. Just in case, what is the phone number for Apple tech support? Thanks. Re: Blue Tooth issue
Hello again Sieghard, I am almost too embarrassed to post this message, however transparency prevails. The problem is resolved and must be attributed to operator error. Each of the two keyboards has a two position on/off switch. On one, the on position is to the right, and the other is on the left. Guess what! I had them reversed. Don Roberts - Original Message - From: "Sieghard Weitzel" To: Sent: Saturday, February 16, 2019 12:16 PM Subject: RE: Blue Tooth issue And you type this code on the keyboard and press enter afterwards, correct? If so and it still doesn't work then I am not sure what's going on. If you can have a Bluetooth speaker or headset connected and it works then obviously your Bluetooth works fine. Do these keyboards show up in the list as soon as you open it? If so try to tap on the More button and remove them completely, then put them in pairing mode and try again. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Donald Roberts Sent: Saturday, February 16, 2019 9:56 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Blue Tooth issue Thanks, Sieghard, for your prompt response. Seeing A I question
I have to say that I am delighted with the way that the Seeing A I app has progressed. Recently my daughter took photos of a couple of documents using my iPhone 6 running 12.1.4, and Seeing A I read the text without error. Now for the question. There are photos in my Camera roll which I haven't labeled which therefore use the file date for the label. I am using Seeing A I on these in an attempt to identify just what they are so that I can then label the photos appropriately. In most instances, Seeing A I will let me delete the photos individually. However, in one particular instance, Seeing A I asks me whether I wish to delete 10 photos. No option to delete the particular photo in question. Why is this? Does it have something to do with the number of photos in that particular month? I just can't figure it out. Thanks for ideas. Re: Amazon Echo Definitely Better than Apple HomePod, in One Respect
I agree Mary with everything you said in this message. However, I would add that if you are looking for substantive information rather than silly games, the Google home and mini is the best. My wife uses the Google products to get gardening info, medical information, recipes, and all kinds of factual information. The echo provides more choices in terms of music services. Don Roberts - Original Message - From: "Mary Otten" To: Sent: Thursday, December 27, 2018 1:55 PM Subject: Re: Amazon Echo Definitely Better than Apple HomePod, in One Respect I agree with you, Ed. I own a couple of echoes. Generally, I find that the Alexa system is horrible with respect to giving the information I actually need or could use, outside of the weather and a little bit of news briefing. and most of the skills are junk games and other Time wasters. That said, I do appreciate the echo for the easy access to SiriusXM and to its ability for reading kindle or audible books while I exercise. I’m not into the automated so-called smart home, so I have no comment on HomePod or echo in that regard. But as a music listening sores, the HomePods kill the echoes. They should, they are more expensive. I have a pair of HomePods that I got when the price came down to $500 for the pair. They sound almost as good as my wonderful floorstanding stereo speakers it cost me over twice what I paid for the HomePods. I would never consider any pair of echoes as any sort of real hi-fi system even for moderately good audio quality listening. I find the Apple speaker much simpler to use than the Amazon Echo. You have to remember very specific application names and commands to use the Echo’s 3 million fart applications. The skills on the Echo aren’t that impressive to me. It’s next to impossible to set up using the app, you almost always have to use the internet browser on a computer for full access to the settings. When I purchased my first Echo device, a while ago, this feature was not available. The same was true for HomePod. However, recently, this feature has now been added to the Echo interface, under audio from within the Settings area of the Alexa app. This is very, very nice. However, Apple has not added this feature to HomePod. At least, if it has, I have not been abel to locate it in the HomePod interface. And yes, I know there is a general sound equalizer, of sort, in the iOS settings area of the music app but, hereto, Apple falls short as these options are merely presets, not true customizable controls. Moreover, one should not have to adjust the sound levels for an entire operating system in order to customize the sound setting for one specific device that is marketed as an entertainment listening device. Besides, it's ridiculous to pay over $300 for a speaker and not have the ability to adjust its sound settings, independently. I have owned my HomePod for over a year or so, I think, and have only used it 3 times because there is just too much bass, for my liking. With the overwhelming success of Echo, you'd think that Apple would realize that, especially when it comes to hearing, as well as vision, one size definitely does not fit all. Just some venting, on my part. Mark -- The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list. Question re informed delivery
Regardless of how you did it, has any list member successfully used informed delivery from the United States postal service? If so, please tell me whether you used the IOS app with help from Seeing A I or by some other means. If I have the option, I would prefer to use Windows and possibly convenient OCR. So I am hoping that there is a windows option available. Thanks for feedback. Don Roberts -- The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list. Question re Uber and Lyft apps
I have both the Uber and the Lyft app on my iPhone 6. Can some list member tell me with certainty whether there is a mechanism on either app to set up a trip in advance. I ask because several months ago it was necessary to go to a major airport almost a hundred miles from my home. The guy that showed up decided he really didn't want to drive to that airport. So I need to schedule the trip in advance if possible. No emergency, we would just like to schedule our next trip in advance if possible. Thanks for feedback. Looking for an app
I don't know whether it was on this list or another. But recently, someone mentioned the availability of at least one app, perhaps more, which could be used in situations to read words which were projected on a screen. For example, many churches no longer use books; rather, they project the words to be sung on a large screen. If I misunderstood this, I certainly apologize. However, if indeed there is such a thing, please tell me the name of the app. Thanks. Don Roberts -- The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list. Re: message sent failure bug still a problem
Richard, I have turned on the SMS setting and continue to occasionally have this problem. Thus far, I have not been able to find a common thread for the failed messages. Below that it explains that SMS is used when iMessage is not available. Since Androids cannot receive iMessages this has to be on. If it is, and still does work, I'd call Apple Accessibility. I found this same issue happening when I use Siri to send a text message to my son who has an Android pone. If you have an email text that you have tried to send to him in the text message field and try and send another message using Siri it will send the second one. If you clear out all your text messages and then try sending with Siri again it will not send it. But if you send a text message bye the messages app it will send just fine. I believe this is an issue with the new IOS 12 using Siri to send text messages to an Android device as it is trying to send it using iMessage instead of SMS. I have another person try this on her iPhone 7 and it did the same thing. It would not send them using Siri to another person who has an Android. Questions using a braille display
I have successfully paired my Focus 40 blue classic, (the one with the whiz wheels) with my iPhone 6 which is running IOS 12.0.1. I have had this Focus for several years but have done almost nothing with it. Now I want to get serious and use it for braille input and output with my iPhone. I would appreciate some pointers regarding things like moving from one text message to the next text message. Also, I can't figure out how to move from one 40-cell line to the next; and, if a line exceeds 40 characters in length, what do I do to advance to the next group of 40 characters? Thanks in advance for any pointers to get me started. Don Roberts -- The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list. Re: Orbit Reader
My first Orbit had a dot which remained up. A P H replaced it promptly, and my second Orbit works very well. Pairing with my iPhone 6 was a piece of cake, and frankly I like reading text messages on the Orbit because of the constant nonstandard abbreviations which some persons insist on using. Don Roberts - Original Message - From: Richard Turner To: viphone@googlegroups.com Sent: Saturday, October 20, 2018 12:39 PM Subject: Orbit Reader Because of the autoscroll discussion, I’m curious if someone has purchased the Orbit Reader recently, how well is it working? I know that last year there were some serious quality issues, but it looks like the firmware was updated in August 2018, so I’m now wondering about the current state of things. I plan to join the Orbit Reader mailing list, but wondered if anyone on this list has recent experience with it. Re: Accessibility of Tp-Link smart switches and plugs
Ian said it well. I couldn't figure it out initially; but after my son set it up, I was able to modify the timer settings. Don Roberts - Original Message - From: Ian Harrison To: viphone@googlegroups.com Sent: Thursday, October 11, 2018 1:27 AM Subject: Re: Accessibility of Tp-Link smart switches and plugs Hi, I have been using the app and Alexa for a while now. I use it for lamp switches, not the wall switches that are also available. The system works well once set up. The Kassa app is ok if I remember rightly. You don’t really need it at all once you are set up properly as it all works through Alexa. I vaguely remember that initial set up of the plugs and pairing with wifi was a bit tricky. I used sighted help with this as I had to know which lights were flashing on the units. The Kassa app is fairly accessible but again it was a lot more efficient to get sighted help for creating groups. If you can have some working eyes around for the set up I thoroughly recommend them. Amazon often has a deal on the smart plugs, but I don’t know about the wall switch side of things. Cheers On 11 Oct 2018, at 07:45, Sieghard Weitzel wrote: Hi, Just wondering if anybody can speak to the accessibility of the app for these Tp-Link devices, I believe it may be called “Casa” since the switches are called that. I am more interested in the light switches since my retail store has two floors and upstairs all the lights are controlled with 4 switches. Often during the winter especially after Christmas there is not so much traffic upstairs so having all these lights off would probably make a bit of a difference in electricity use, but it’s too much of a pain in the neck to run upstairs and turn them off only to run back upstairs behind a customer who goes up and turn them all on. These switches work with Alexa and I assume there might be a way to group them so if I put an Alexa Dot downstairs by the register whoever is working could just say “Alexa, turn on the upstairs lights” if they notice somebody goes up. Of course once the lights are connected and set up it may not even be so necessary to use the app for myself if I can just tell Alexa. -- The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list. Questions re copying text messages
I should mention that my iPhone 6 is running IOS 12.0.1. A family member sometimes sends me several text messages within the span of a few minutes. Is there any way to copy the entire thread at once rather than copying messages one at a time? How do I copy only a portion of a message to the clipboard? Lastly, do I need to have a particular setting in the rotor to accomplish text message copying and moving? Thanks.
