RE: Oko | Navigate and explore places using AI

Hi,

This app is not available in all regions and countries. Why? Can you give a
more specific answer when it will be available in the apple store for Serbia?

Thank you

Subject: Oko | Navigate and explore places using AI

Hi,

I don't recall coming across posts about this app. I had signed up for beta
testing it here in Canada back in February. At the time the only functionality
available was the pedesstrian signal information. Of course this may be less
important at intersections which have an audible signal which many here in
Canbada have, but even here the app can still be interesting especially if it's
a big intersection since the app can help you to go straight. In any case, I
tried it only here in my small town where all lights have audible signals and
it certainly worked well.
Now the app will be officially launched in Canada on July 1 and will hopefully
soon include maps and turn-by-turn directions which for now is only available
in the United States.
Unlike with main stream apps like Apple Maps or google Maps, it says these are
instructions specifically for the pedestrian and also include information about
crosswalks and so on. I always liked how in the old Sendero apps/devices you
would get information like whether an intersection was a 4-way or 3-way
intersection and while I didn't specifically read this, hopefully this app will
also include this or it can be suested as an improvement. Maybe it will give
Good Maps Outdoor a run for it's money although since both apps are free I
guess that isn't quite the right term to use. I am definitely curious about the
AI features other than the pedestrian crossing. Below is an email I received
from them a few days ao:

Hi there,
We have two incredible announcements to make today. First of all, Oko has won
the prestigious 2024 Apple Design Awards! 🏆 This award celebrates our
commitment to inclusivity and our mission to empower individuals with
disabilities. We couldn’t be more proud to be recognized for making a
difference.
Our mission at Oko is to reimagine how 1.4 billion people with mobility
disabilities navigate and explore places. Secondly, we are super proud to say
that
we’ve taken a new step in that mission. We have launched Maps into Oko across
the United Sates, more regions coming soon. We can not wait to get your feedback
on our new Oko version. Visit our website to get familiar with the new updates
coming to Oko and watch the explainer video below.

https://www.ayes.ai/?utm_campaign=7b482b46-6ff1-486a-940b-1de5bbd228ae&utm_source=so&utm_medium=mail&cid=4269ce05-52fa-4ce6-9dc3-3b19f7b2cbfa
https://www.youtube.com/shorts/H_710vt0-No

Below you can get familiar with the most important features and screens in Oko.
Homescreen
On Oko's main screen, you'll find a map with your location, a search bar to
enter your destination, an AI button to scan your environment.

AI Button screen
When clicking on the AI button on the homescreen it will open up the camera
screen and starts running our AI. The camera screen displays on top what the AI
is looking for, in the example below it is looking for a pedestrian signal.

Navigation using AI screen
When in navigation mode you'll get turn-by-turn instructions, as well as
intersection announcements like the following example: signalized intersection
ahead, cross Broadway to continue. If you're crossing a signalized intersection
you can simply raise your phone to activate the camera to look for pedestrian
signals. Instructions about your route are visualized at the top of the screen.
ETA updates and the possibility to end your route can be done at the bottom of
the screen.

Hello again

Yes, Richard you are right. Seeing Assistant Home is evolving and is now a much
better app than it was before. These restrictions no longer exist and it is now
a free app. It's also the same with the Seeing Assistant Move app.

Hi Gradimir,

It looks like Seeing Assistant Home has had quite a bit of good development
since I first tried it several years ago.

I do have a question. It took a lot of digging through the tutorial to find
the below section concerning the limitations of the light version which I
copied from the tutorial.
My question is, and I guess it is two questions, What is the cost of the
non-light version and how does one find that version?
I found nothing about in-app purchases in the app store or in the app.

Limitations of LITE version
LITE version of Seeing Assistant Home has several limitations, such as:
• Lack of Dropbox support,
• Only 5 codes can be created,
• Only 10 characters can be embedded in QR code,
• Lack of voice commands,
• Magnifying glass and Light Detector can be used only 1 minute every day.
Warnings and disclaimer
Seeing Assistant Home uses internet connection to work. If you are not
connected to WiFi network or do not have internet plan data transfer might
result in additional costs. Transition Technologies is not responsible for any
loss or additional costs resulting when using Seeing Assistant Home.

Re: Talking GPS Apps

2021-02-11 Thread Gradimir Kragić

Hi,

My suggestions is Loadstone GPS is a powerful, easy-to-use app that
enables blind pedestrians to "go blindly where everyone sighted has gone
before." It is designed by the blind, for the blind, specifically for those
who use Voiceover. Initially launched in July 2017, Version 1.4 hit the App
Store in August 2019 and includes the much-requested turn-by-turn
navigation function. The User Guide was thoroughly revised for Version 1.4.
Two subsequent versions were released later in 2019 to address bug fixes
resulting from the IOS 13 updates.

Yeah gps isn't too accurate. I was reading an article a while back about
some new gps technology in the works that would give you accuracy within 3

Have you guys tried an app called Clew? That's C L E W. uses AR for navigation.
very interesting.

at the free Lazarillo app.
It does not have the depth of features that Blind Square has; but it
is a good orientation app.
If you want a walking route, you can get that from within Lazarillo.
If you want a driving route, it can launch Google or Apple Maps I
believe and run in the background to tell you about streets or Points Of
Interest.
I turn off explore mode when first launching or it continues to talk
about places around you which interrupts hearing what you want in learning the
app.

Always look out for #1, and be careful not to step in #2.
